i'm closing this ITP: i've run out of time to complete packaging
sdlcam, and i don't think it is ready for inclusion in debian
(therefore not retitling to RFP):
stalled upstream development, lots of internal ugliness that would
have to be resolved in the debian port, no proper configuration mechanism
etc.

I will maintain the wmnetmon package.

The package description is:
 A dockapp which will show an LED for every monitored service.
 Green LEDs indicate that the service is up and running, as opposed to a
 blinking red LED, which indicates that the service isn't responding
 correctly.

Bug#289043: ITP: perlprimer -- [Biology] Graphical design of primers for PCR

2005-01-08 Thread Andreas Tille

On Fri, 7 Jan 2005, Andreas Rottmann wrote:

Wouldn't the package be better named pcrprimer or something like this?
The fact that it is written in perl seems not to be relevant to
the user. The name perlprimer makes me rather think of a primer
(tutorial) for perl.

Hmm, that was my first thought, too. OTOH, the upstream package is
named perlprimer...

We have several packages which are differently (and better / more logical)
named than the upstream packages. I really like the name pcrprimer because
it exactly describes what the package is.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

I'm copying this message to debian-devel to make other people aware of
this program. Maybe someone is interested in packaging it.

I am. I'm not currently using it but was admin of a baycom box for
several years until DB0HOM was shut down (*sigh*), so this might
change soon again. [1]

I didn't test it yet with AX.25, just telnet. I hope to get my
TNC/antennas working again within the next few weeks.

Dirk, could you have a look at the packages and comment on them?

Hi

for the moment i don't have a Linux System because the school need a Windows
System :(

So i had ask two other OMs to test the package of Christoph.

They said that the installation was easy and they had no problems with them.
But one oft them would welcome it, if a message came where the OpenBCM is
installed. They find no errors by their tests of the packages.

Free Philips USB Webcam driver for Linux that supports VGA resolution, newer

This is a fork of the discontinuity pwc driver made by Nemosoft Unv. You
don't need binary module with this driver, however decompression is
supported for big resolution (640x480). The driver is designed for Linux
2.6, patches for 2.4 is not tested. I'll try to produce update for the 2.4

Bug#289371: ITP: saods9 -- astronomical image tool

2005-01-08 Thread Justin Pryzby
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: saods9
  Version : 3.0.3
  Upstream Author : William Joye [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://hea-www.harvard.edu/RD/ds9/
* License : GPL2
  Description : astronomical image tool

 DS9 is an application for astronomical imaging and data
 visualization.
 .
 DS9 is the modern imtool used by astronomers. It is most
 distinguished by its support for displaying 16 bit greyscale images
 (such as FITS). Most tools (such as GIMP and Photoshop) will read an
 approximation to such files, and only store the most significant 8
 bits of data. DS9 works in full precision, and uses various display
 parameters to map input data of high dynamic-range such as to be
 displayed on the screen.
 .
 Available parameters include: brightness, contrast, false color, and
 nonlinear input mapping (such as logarithm, square root, square,
 etc.)
 .
 Although it may be useful in other fields, DS9 includes a fair number
 of features specific to astronomy. There is an astronomical name
 resolver which allows a lookup of an arbitrary named object to its
 coordinates. Given the coordinates of a field, online archive
 servers may be queried, and an image retrieved. DS9 thusly
 implements a preliminary Virtual Observatory.
 .
 DS9 is entirely controllable from external programs (XPA), which
 simplifies complex tasks such as realtime or batch analysis.
 .
 Images may be aligned by their WCS (World Coordinate System)
 keywords, and then blinked to search for moving objects.

 The mga_vid module will enable you to use the back-end scaler found on
 many Matrox cards. If you own a Matrox card, and use your Debian system

 you definitely want this piece of software, as it is the best video
 output driver available.
 .
 This package just contain the sources needed to build the kernel module.
 To actually use it, you'll have to compile it to match your installed
 kernel. Refer to /usr/share/doc/mga-vid-source/README.Debian for
 information on how to do this.

Description: Process CGI input parameters
 Dealing with large web based applications with multiple forms is a
 minefield. It's often hard enough to ensure you validate all your
 input at all, without having to worry about doing it in a consistent
 manner. If any of the validation rules change, you often have to alter
 them in many different places. And, if you want to operate taint-safe,
 then you're just adding even more headaches.
 .
 This module provides a simple, convenient, abstracted and extensible
 manner for validating and untainting the input from web forms.
 .
 You simply create a handler with a hash of your parameters (usually
 $q-Vars), and then iterate over the fields you wish to extract,
 performing whatever validations you choose. The resulting variable is
 guaranteed not only to be valid, but also untainted.

  Description : fake pop3 server to warn users that only pop3-ssl is
available

fakepop is a fake pop3 daemon. It returns always the same messages to
all users, it does not care about usernames and passwords. All user/pass
combinations are accepted.

Why use fakepop: the main purpose of fakepop is to advice users that
your server only accepts pop3-ssl and they have wrongly configured pop3
without ssl. You can customize messages in /etc/fakepop/ directory to
teach your users how they should configure their mail clients to use
pop3-ssl instead of pop3

Would like to see this package in debian:

http://www.semanticgap.com/myps/

Details:
MyPasswordSafe is a straight-forward, easy-to-use password manager that
maintains compatibility with Password Safe files. MyPasswordSafe has the
following features:

* Safes are encrypted when they are stored to disk.
* Passwords never have to be seen, because they are copied to the
* clipboard
* Random passwords can be generated.
* Window size, position, and column widths are remembered.
* Passwords remain encrypted until they need to be decrypted at the
* dialog and file levels.
* A safe can be made active so it will always be opened when
* MyPasswordSafe starts.
* Supports Unicode in the safes
* Languages supported: English and French

The download page is http://www.semanticgap.com/myps/release/, in case
you want to skip the rest of this.

  Description : A developers framework for rapidly developing=20
and deploying rich, full featured content types

Formerly known as CMFTypes, Archetypes is a developers framework
 for rapidly developing and deploying rich, full featured content
 types within the context of Zope/CMF and Plone.
 .
 Archetypes is based around the idea of an _Active Schema_. Rather
 than provide a simple description of a new data type Archetype
 schemas do the actual work and heavy lifting involved in using
 the new type. Archetype Schemas serve as easy extension points
 for other developers as project specific components can be
 created and bound or you can choose among the rich existing set
 of features.
 .
 Features
 * Simple schemas with working default policy.
 * Power and flexibility with lowered incidental complexity.
 * Integration with rich content sources such as Office Product Suites.
 * Full automatic form generation
 * i18n content on a field basis
 .
 Homepage: http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/archetypes

This source package will generate the following binary packages:
 * zope-cmfarchetypes
 * zope-cmftransforms
 * zope-generator
 * zope-validation

  Description : Zope Content Management Framework (CMF), 1.4 branch

I'm packaging zope-cmf1.4 as separate package because Plone (= 2.0.4)
need it. It will conflict with zope-cmf so all the packages that need
CMF 1.3 will work without problems.

I think this is the best solution, but if someone has a better idea he's
welcome.

The packages are ready-to-be-uploaded.

  Description : Scripting interface generator for C

A tool (and Guile library) for generating function wrappers for
inter-language calls. It currently only supports generating Guile
wrappers for C functions.

G-Wrap takes a set of interface declarations (written in Scheme) and
wraps the described interface for Guile.

/long-description

This is the sucessor of G-Wrap 1.3.4 (packaged as libgwrapguile-dev and
libgwrapguile). It is packaged as a new source package since G-Wrap 1.3.4
is still needed to build GnuCash, although GnuCash CVS has received patches
to allow building with G-Wrap 1.9.x, so the old G-Wrap packages can be
faded out sometime after the release of GnuCash 1.8.10.

The source package g-wrap will procduce the following binary packages:
