I have orphaned the source package nfs-utils (binary packages
nfs-common, nfs-kernel-server, and nhfsstone). I've recently added
other open source development responsibilities (the Parrot project),
and the NFS code needs someone who can give it more concentrated
engineering attention.

The package description is:
Use this package on any machine that does NFS either as client or
server. Programs included: lockd, statd, showmount, and nfsstat.
 .
Upstream: SourceForge project "nfs", CVS module nfs-utils.

Andreas, I would like to take over nfs-utils. I already maintain
portmap and taking care of both nfs-utils and portmap will be
beneficial for both packages.

I'll upload a new nfs-utils soon, unless you object.

Visual is a library for 3D scientific visualization. It allows rapid
development of programs in Python, but is itself written in C++ for speed.
It currently supports various colored geometrical primitives (texture
support is being added). It was developed for use by a Carnegie-Mellon
University honors first-year physics course.

It is copyrighted under the Python license, and you can get it from
http://vpython.sourceforge.net by CVS.

Preliminary debs will be available from:
deb[-src] ftp://debian.res.cmu.edu/new-packages/ ./

In addition, a second binary package called 'python-visual-demos' will
be available containing Python demonstration programs.

Hi,

Linux ECAD is the topic today (electronics CADs).

qucs is on sourceforge.net and works with debian easily. It seems to be
far better than any package debian has and is under active developement.

While SPICE/gnucaps/tclspice may have more accurate simulation - qucs offers
the longest list of reproduceable sample simulations (qucs has its own
simulator engine - GNUPL).

QUCS is very easy to use and seems nicely stable. And the simulations
are based on firm mathematics (which is being developed).

I think qucs should be in debian because it allows users to quickly
build and anylyse ciruits like no other ECAD product I've tried using
debian packages or others.

Oh. A real debian bug too. Oregano is labeled a GPL sim. However it
is just a graphic interface for spice3: and it's "oregano2" which is a
rewrite of oregano for Gnome. Debian doin't have spice3 (and
I'm still looking for that, since ngspice and spicep08s have compile
environment glitches - the annoying kind).

This is a great list too:

http://linas.org/linux/ecad.html

PS:

These I've compiled on debian:
xoscope, chime, qucs

These I gave up on; because other source are more promising:
these are no good unless you like wasting time on win32 hacked things:
spicep08s (not spice3f5...), xosKope, ngspice (I'm still looking for spice3f !!)

Have fun!

John D. Hendrickson

Expect people to whine. I personally don't see why "@daily" is
significantly easier than "0 0 * * *" but apparently some people get all
sweaty if they have to type an asterisk.

The important thing is that you don't pickup .dpkg-dist etc. in default
mode. For the sake of consitency, you should use the same conventions as
run-parts. Feel free to take the code from cron.

And yeah, I'll pick up fixing the permissions in cron. Send me a patch when
you're ready. Post sarge, of course.

Description : Numeric 1st and 2nd order differentiation

This Perl package exports functions for performing numerical first
and second order differentiation on data. The functions take
references to two arrays containing the x and y ordinates of the data
and return an array of the 1st or 2nd derivative at the given x
ordinates. The 2nd derivative may optionally be given values to use
for the first dervivative at the start and end points of the data -
otherwiswe 'natural' values are used.

Description : Perl extension for using V4l2 in the ivtv perl scripts

The Video::ivtv module will provide helper methods for working with
videodev2.h structures and making ioctl calls that have proven to be
too difficult to create pack strings for in perl itself.

This is not supposed to be an equivalent of the Video::Capture::V4l
module which was created for videodev.h.

The package is necessary for running the utilities included with
ivtv-0.2 and newer.

Bug#303635: ITP: kildclient - Powerful MUD client with a built-in Perl interpreter

2005-04-07 Thread Eduardo M KALINOWSKI
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
License: GPL
Homepage: http://kildclient.sf.net
KildClient is a MUD Client written with the GTK+ windowing toolkit. It
supports many common features of other clients, such as triggers,
gags, aliases, macros, timers, and much more. But its main feature is
the built-in Perl interpreter. You can at any moment execute Perl
statements and functions to do things much more powerful than simply
sending text the the mud. Perl statements can also be run, for
example, as the action of a trigger, allowing you to do complex
things. Some built-in functions of KildClient allow interaction with
the world, such as sending commands to it.

Description : removes files and directories

File::Remove::remove removes files and directories. It acts like
/bin/rm, for the most part. Although unlink can be given a list of
files, it will not remove directories; this module remedies that. It
also accepts wildcards, * and ?, as arguments for filenames.

Description : libgig is a C++ library for loading Gigasampler files and
DLS (Downloadable Sounds) Level 1/2 files

I plan to package the libgig software. It will be handy in the future
coding of sound libraries for GNU based samplers.

(From their web site)
libgig is a C++ library for loading Gigasampler files and DLS
(Downloadable Sounds) Level 1/2 files. The source code package includes
a couple of command line tools based on the library. The library and
tools are released in source code format under the GNU General Public
License.

This library is developed and optimized for POSIX compliant operating
systems like Linux and OSX, but should in general be compilable on any
operating system.

GPL license.

Description : manages different identities/roles used for email

The "Mail::Identity" object contains the description of role played by
a human when sending e-mail. Most people have more than one role these
days: for instance, a private and a company role with different e-mail
addresses.

An "Mail::Identity" object combines an e-mail address, user description
("phrase"), a signature, pgp-key, and so on. All fields are optional,
and some fields are smart. One such set of data represents one role.
"Mail::Identity" is therefore the smart cousine of the Mail::Address
object.

This module is required by the new upstream version of libmail-box-perl,
already in the archive.

Bug#303625: RFA: vbs -- Verilog Behavioral Simulation

2005-04-07 Thread Shaun Jackman
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I no longer use the vbs and vbpp packages myself. They need a new
maintainer. Both packges are in good condition, having no bugs.

Cheers,
Shaun

vbs -- Verilog Behavioral Simulation
Verilog is a Hardware Description Language used mostly for digital
circuit design and simulation. This program is a simple
implementation of a Verilog simulator. VBS tries to implement all of
the Verilog behavioral constructs that are synthesizable, but still
allow complex test vectors for simulation.

vbpp -- Verilog preprocessor
VBPP is a Verilog preprocessor. It has support for most Verilog
preprocessing directives and additional directives such as:
 .
 1. Statement generator ('generate' command in VHDL).
 2. Expression evaluation.
 3. Mathematical functions: log2, ceil, floor, round, abs, etc.
 4. Conditionals: if, switch, etc.

I'll help if I can, but have more experience with the nfs side than the
debian side, so would probably need help from someone with more debian
experience.

In last august I adopted murasaki. Despite many emails I've sent to the
upstream author I never received any news from him.

Last week a RC bug was filled on this package (#223197). A good solution=20
to close this bug is probably to upload a newer version, but the lastest
developpment version dosen't meet requirements to be include in=20
Debian[1].

Since I have neither interest nor ressource to handle this package, I
request for an adopter.

I don't believe that this package is much use. People are generaly using
the hotplug package. So if nobody is willing to adopt this package after
a week, I will ask for its removal from Debian.

Bug#303609: ITP: libdata-dumper-perl -- stringified perl data structures, suitable for both printing and eval

2005-04-07 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Um, as far as I can tell, this module is already present in perl-base,
and even at the correct version:

$ dlocate -S /usr/lib/perl/*/Data/Dumper.pm
perl-base: /usr/lib/perl/5.8.4/Data/Dumper.pm
$ fgrep VERSION /usr/lib/perl/5.8.4/Data/Dumper.pm
$VERSION = '2.121';

As such, I see no reason to package it separately.

Yes, it's even exactly the same version (2.121) in the Debian
perl-base package version 5.8.4-8 so it's not as if perl-base is out
of date. As far as I can see there's no point packaging this
separately.

Am I missing something? Does this really need to be seperately

* URL : http://search.cpan.org/~ilyam/Data-Dumper-2.121/

Description : stringified perl data structures, suitable for both
printing and eval

Given a list of scalars or reference variables, writes out their contents in
perl syntax. The references can also be objects. The contents of each
variable is output in a single Perl statement. Handles self-referential
 structures correctly.
 .
The return value can be evaled to get back an identical copy of the
 original reference structure.
 .
Any references that are the same as one of those passed in will be named
$VARn (where n is a numeric suffix), and other duplicate references
to substructures within $VARn will be appropriately labeled using arrow
notation. You can specify names for individual values to be dumped if you
use the Dump() method, or you can change the default $VAR prefix to
something else. See $Data::Dumper::Varname and $Data::Dumper::Terse
 below.
 .

Yes, with bcron this directory and the files in it are all owned by a
system user 'cron' and have restricted permissions. The
bcron-run.postinst will take care of this when switching from cron to
bcron.

My plan was to file a wishlist bug against your cron package after
preparing and testing a patch against its postinst. It would be nice if
the cron package can handle the conversion back, I think; similar to how
it adjusts permissions of /var/spool/cron/crontab/* on upgrade from <<
3.0pl1-81.

Correct. I checked that it provides the functionality mandated by
Debian policy 9.5.

I didn't find where the Debian namespace convention is specified, other
than in the run-parts man page, and it looks like cron doesn't conform
with LSB by default. Is that really necessary?

Description : skin editor for TiEmu

skinedit is the skin editor that accompagnies TiEmu, the Texas Instruments
calculators emulator. By using a different skin, you change the appearance
 of the emulator.
 .
skinedit can handle VTi (another emulator, running on Windows) skins too,
allowing you to convert the skins between the VTi formats and the TiEmu
 format.

Packages ready, upload RSN. This is the missing piece of the TiLP/TiEmu
framework.

Bug#303600: ITP: gnome-power-manager -- tool for user configuration of power management policies

Owner: Andrew Lau <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: gnome-power-manager
  Version : 0.0.2
  Upstream Author : Richard Hughes
* URL : http://gnome-power.sourceforge.net/

Description : tool to provide user configuration of power management

GNOME Power Manager is a GNOME session daemon that acts as a policy
agent on top of the Project Utopia stack, which includes the kernel,
hotplug, udev, and HAL. GNOME Power Manager listens for HAL events and
responds with user-configurable reactions. Currently it supports
UPS's, laptop batteries and AC adapters. Its goal is to be
architecture neutral and free of polling and other hacks.

The main focus here is the user interface; e.g. allowing configuration
of power management from the desktop in a sane way (no need for root
password, no need to edit configuration files) - including using
existing desktop-level frameworks for lockdown etc. (e.g. g-conf)

Bug#303571: ITP: rubyscript2exe -- pseudo compile ruby script into standalone executable

Description : pseudo compile ruby script into standalone executable

RubyScript2Exe transforms your Ruby script into a standalone, compressed
executable. You can look at it as a "compiler". Not in the sense of a
source-code-to-byte-code compiler, but as a "collector", for it
collects all necessary files to run your script on an other machine:
the Ruby script, the Ruby interpreter and the Ruby runtime library
(stripped down for this script). Anyway, the result is the same: a
standalone executable (application.exe). And that's what we
want!

Bug#303559: O: nfs-utils -- NFS support files common to client and server

2005-04-07 Thread Chip Salzenberg
Package: wnpp
Severity: important

I have orphaned the source package nfs-utils (binary packages
nfs-common, nfs-kernel-server, and nhfsstone). I've recently added
other open source development responsibilities (the Parrot project),
and the NFS code needs someone who can give it more concentrated
engineering attention.

The package description is:
Use this package on any machine that does NFS either as client or
server. Programs included: lockd, statd, showmount, and nfsstat.
 .
Upstream: SourceForge project "nfs", CVS module nfs-utils.

Looking at the site, it appears to have the required functionality
(/etc/cron.d, etc.). One line item that is not yet supported is @reboot,
@daily, etc.

The other thing that Gerrit needs to look at is the file naming
conventions (both Debian and LSB) that apply in /etc/cron.d.
