Description : live looping musical instrument

FreeWheeling is a live looping instrument built for improvisation.
Using a keyboard or a MIDI controller, it allows to build and control
repetitive patterns from a live audio stream.
 .
FreeWheeling uses the Jack Audio Connection Kit, Fluidsynth, and SDL.

>From the website:

FreeWheeling is a new way to be In The Muse-ical Moment. It is a live
looping instrument that returns us to the joy of making music
 spontaneously.

FreeWheeling allows us to build repetitive grooves by sampling and
directing loops from within spirited improvisation. FreeWheeling works
because it is built from the perspective of an improviser. It takes us
out of mice and menus, and into our own process of making sound.

I tried to be a bit more factual than the text from the website, while
reflecting it too. So it ended up being a bit short. :) Anything i
missed?

ciao, piem

Bug#321693: RFA: vaiostat-source -- kernel module for Sony Vaio laptops

2005-08-06 Thread Henning Makholm
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Since I don't have a Vaio anymore I am unable to test this package
properly. I think it should be adopted by someone who can.

Package description:
This module creates some entries in /proc/vaio concerning battery and
power usage information, and LCD brightness levels on Sony Vaio
  laptops.

Although on newer laptops some of this information is handled by
ACPI as well, this module is required for some older ones, and still
works on the newer ones. Recent kernel sources include a SONYPI
module that provides similar functionality to this one, but it
cannot change LCD brightness on some laptops where this module
  works.

The module is effectively dead upstream (upstream author also lost his
Vaio). When I took over the package (because the previous maintainer
lost his Vaio) I tried to rewrite the module's build system for 2.6.x
kernels, but didn't manage to make it really sleek - it only works
reliably when used with kernel-package. There's an open bug (#296566)
caused by me forgetting to adjust the build instructions in the README
file. When I tried to improve the instructions I discovered that my
rewritten build system should never have worked at all. It may be an
advantage to have prior experience with kernel modules and interfacing
with the kernel build system than I do, but do not let it stop you if
you have none - I haven't either.

Warning: if the historical record is any guide, involvement with this
package will cause you to lose your Vaio.

Description : A window manager written entirely in Common Lisp

Stumpwm is a window manager written entirely in Common Lisp. It
attempts to be highly customizable while relying entirely on the
keyboard for input. You will not find buttons, icons, title bars, tool
bars, or any of the other conventional GUI widgets.
 .
These design decisions reflect the growing popularity of productive,
 customizable lisp based systems.

As igal upstream is dead for more than two years now, I created a fork
called llgal which keeps a similar interface, includes all bugfixes and
wishes that have been proposed for igal on bugs.debian.org, and adds
several features.

* Package name: llgal
  Version : 0.9.7-1
  Upstream Author : Brice Goglin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://bgoglin.free.fr/llgal

  Description : Online gallery generator

llgal is a HTML gallery generator for images, videos, text and links.
It is based on igal and adds supports for various types of slides including
movies, text, links and subdirectories and several features such as the
addition of headers and footers in generated HTML files or the generation
of slide captions from JPEG EXIF or GIF comments
llgal generates nice web-pages through very simple HTML code that does not
require anything like php or javascript.

  Description : arcade-style soccer game

Eat The Whistle is an arcade soccer game similar to famous Amiga titles such
as Kick Off or Sensible Soccer. It features several game modes where you can
play either as the whole team or as a single player, and you can also manage
teams that take part in cups and leagues. There is even an arcade mode with
powerups and bonuses, like in the game SpeedBall 2.
 .
Eat The Whistle features 30 different field types and numerous sound effects.
The game is viewed from the side and can be controlled with either a joystick
 or the keyboard.
 .
Most in-game settings are configurable, such as the pitch, weather and game
daytime, which will impact on the gameplay. There is a replay mode that lets
you load and save best moments, a game tactics editor, and teams from the
game Sensible World of Soccer can be directly imported.

Description: text-based MU* client
TinyFugue is a text-based, line-based client designed for connecting to
MU* servers of most flavors (TinyMUSH, TinyMUX, LP, Diku, etc.), and
includes support for MCCP versions 1 and 2, SSL encryption, and a host
 of other features.
 .
This package is the current development version of TinyFugue (major version
5); for the current stable version (major version 4), please see the 'tf'
 package instead.

Note for reviewers: this has been discussed with both of the prior
maintainers of tf, and has their blessing; tf4 and tf5 are different enough
that they warrant multiple major versions in the archive (among other
things, the user interface and scripting language have changed completely
between version 4 and version 5; old scripts almost certainly have to be
rewritten, and users have to relearn many of the primary interactions).

(Include the long description here.)

Mutt next generation (mutt-ng) is a fork of the well-known email client mutt
with the goal to both incorporate all the patches that are floating around=
 in
the web, and to fix all the other little annoyances of mutt.
 .
 Differences between mutt and mutt-ng:
o Better view support for format=3Dflowed attachments
  o Message IDs are configurable
o User can set signoff_string just like in slrn
o User can call up the "last folder" when saving attachments
o IMAP reconnecting: when the connection to the IMAP server dies, mutt-ng
attempts reconnecting
o User can set the umask with which all the files shall be created (was
hard-coded before, and caused huge problems for shared mailboxes to some
people)
o Support for NNTP, i.e. mutt-ng can be used as a newsreader
o A sidebar similar to other (graphical) MUAs where you can directly jump
to a certain mailbox

Description : Syslog event logger library

The EventLog library aims to be a replacement of the simple syslog() API
provided on UNIX systems. The major difference between EventLog and syslog
is that EventLog tries to add structure to messages.
 .
EventLog provides an interface to build, format and output an event record.
The exact format and output method can be customized by the administrator
 via a configuration file.

Description : Theora video encoder using ffmpeg

This package provides a command-line tool to encode/recode various
video formats (basically everything that ffmpeg can read) into Theora,
the free video codec.

I'm not volunteering to maintain this package (not right now anyway),
but preliminary packages are available at
http://roland.mas.free.fr/debian/ for now. Should someone feel
interested, I propose to start from here. I may even be convinced to
act as a sponsor if needed.

Beware: build-dependency on ffmpeg, which has been packaged by Sam
Hocevar and uploaded to Debian, although not yet accepted into sid by
the ftpmasters. Packages available at the same URL.

This is an XML parser based on PHPs built-in xml extension.
It supports two basic modes of operation: and event. In func mode,
it will look for a function named after each element (xmltag_ELEMENT
for start tags and xmltag_ELEMENT_ for end tags), and in
"event" mode it uses a set of generic callbacks.
Since version 1.2.0 there's a new XML_Parser_Simple class that makes
parsing of most XML documents easier, by automatically providing a
stack for the elements.
Furthermore its now possible to split the parser from the handler
object, so you do not have to extend XML_Parser anymore in order to
parse a document with it.

I adopting this package a while back, because I used it and it was
orphaned. However, circumstances have changed a bit:

  1) I haven't used this package in quite a while,
  2) It doesn't seem to be maintained upstream,
  3) According to popcon, out of the 8 people who have installed,
it, 0 of them have used it recently... and since I almost
always have the packages I maintain installed on several
computers, 3-5 of those popcon numbers are probably me.

So anyway, I'm putting this up as an RFA for now. There is nothing wrong
with the package or program as far as I know. I've used it in the past
without any problems, and I expect it to be forward compatible with new
Ruby versions for the most part.

If nobody picks this up in a few months and I don't see that there is
any activity either upstream or in popcon, I will probably just orphan
the package.

GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or
block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors.

The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully automatic. That is, you
don't have to wait for an error, stop the program, read the log, run it
in reverse mode, etc.

If you use the logfile feature of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very
efficiently (only the needed blocks are read). Also you can interrupt
the rescue at any time and resume it later at the same point.

License : GNU General Public License V2 or later

GNU ddrescue is hosted at http://www.gnu.org/software/ddrescue/ddrescue.html

The latest version of GNU ddrescue can be found at
http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/ddrescue/

You can find some interesting information about how GNU ddrescue
compares with Garloff's dd_rescue (currently in debian as 'ddrescue') at
http://freshmeat.net/projects/addrescue/

Regards.
Antonio Diaz Diaz.

  Description : Portable audio I/O

PortAudio is a portable audio I/O library designed for cross-platform
support of audio. It uses a callback mechanism to request audio
processing. Audio can be generated in various formats, including 32
bit floating point, and will be converted to the native format
 internally.

I have uploaded an experimental version to mentors.debian.net:

Bug#321654: RFA: debtags: Enables support for package tags -- optional

2005-08-06 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

I've recently been making a new debtags version at least once a day: either
some chunk of the gcc migration, or yet another APT ABI change, or who knows
what's going to happen tomorrow.

I'm tired, and I haven't been writing any line of code for it anymore since I
can't remember how much time.

I want someone to do the Debian maintenance for it; someone who knows what he
or she is doing, and who can do uploads by him/herself. I want to be upstream
for debtags, to do 'make dist' and to have someone that picks it up from there.

Debtags is not a trivial package: it should be someone comfortable with
automake/autoconf and with packaging C++ libraries. Since the goal is to save
my time to do coding, this time I'll have to turn down offers from people who
need sponsoring, or people who lack experience.

Ciao,

Enrico

Bug#261257: status

2005-08-06 Thread Nick Lewycky
Currently, the packages I'm hosting should work for most users on sarge
and unstable.

Unfortunately, there are some major issues:
 * Re-parsing the configuration file
 * SMP installations aren't supported at all
 * Upgrades of installer can't upgrade installed client

The last two are problems that I don't see any solution for without
changes to the [EMAIL PROTECTED] client software and Debian.org respectively.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions at this point. Without a little
prodding/assistance, I'm probably going to orphan these and move them
somewhere more appropriate.
