Thanks for the explanation! My initial reaction was mostly based on the
proposed package description which started with "VDE is a tool to
interconnect virtual machines over the Internet". Now I know better! I
guess I should make tinc be able to work as a dpipe for VDE :)

Description: A program for typesetting graphs
This is grap, an implementation of Kernighan and Bentley's grap language
for typesetting graphs. The grap preprocessor works with pic and troff
 (or groff).
 .
Grap is a language for describing graphical displays of data. It
provides such services as automatic scaling and labeling of axes,
and for statements, if statements, and macros to facilitate user
programmability. Grap is intended primarily for including graphs in
documents prepared with groff or TeX, and is only marginally useful for
 elementary tasks in data analysis.

Justification: No uploads in more than a year, no response to pings

Hi,

I am hoping to find someone to adopt the subversion Debian package.
subversion is a fun package to maintain. Upstream is active, the
userbase is large and the software is high quality. However, at present
I do not have the resources to maintain it as I would like to.

Thanks,

David

Hi, I want to be maintainer of libfile-fdkeeper-perl package.

File::FDkeeper allows you to store open filehandles in a "server" process =
and
retrieve them at a later time from another process.
 .
When a filehandle is stored, an id is returned. This id can then be used b=
y
any other process to retrieve the filehandle (as long as they have permiss=
ion
 to open the fifo).

Hi, I want to be maintainer of libfile-fdpasser-perl package.

File::FDpasser is a module for passing open filedescriptors between
unrelated processes. This is Unix Capabable only - if you don't have it -
get it. Under BSD systems open filedescriptors are passed over Unix Domain
Sockets. Under SysV open filedescriptors are passed over pipes.

License: Artistic License.

Bug#304763: State of fast-user-switch-applet package

2005-08-09 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi,

I was just skimming through the packages on
http://utnubu.alioth.debian.org/missing-packages and noticed that Ubuntu
has a fast-user-switch-applet package and we don't. Then I found your
ITP, which is a few months old. So this is a quick check: Are you still
preparing the package? What is holding you up?

You can consider using the Ubuntu package as base for your work, or talk
to the Ubuntu maintainer if you both want to co-maintain the package.

Greetings, and thanks,

Joachim Breitner
on behalf of the Utnubu team (http://utnubu.alioth.debian.org/)

VDE does not use any TCP stream. VDE cables are composed by vde_plugs,
provided by the project, and wires that are not part of VDE.
You can use any program able to trasmit packets as "wire".
If you use netcat instead of ssh you use UDP streams.

VDE does now require any root access to run. This is extremely useful
in my University labs where students can run any kind of mesh of
eterogeneous virtual machines and interconnect them together.
Obviously nobody but system adminsitrators have root access in the labs!

The projects you mentioned are wonderful and very interesting.
THey are all tunneling tools, tailored to interconnect real machines
in IP mode (tun) and also in tap mode if needed.
THey are all designed for system administrators, and they have not
specifically designed to interconnect any kind of virtual machines.

We have also designed a "partial virtual machine" able to interconnect
one UNIX process or a group of processes to a VDE network.
Each process or group of processes can have its IP address.
NO need for root access neither for this.

Have a look of View-OS project on Savannah
View-OS is able to make partial virtual machines not just for networking
but also for file system access and soon for many other features.

As I wrote just yesterday in #205392, not very far. The packages that I
have build with sun's Java, but I don't even remember whether the binary
works (since I didn't have time, I just took the compiled version from
the upstream site when I set up my working machine three months ago)

The packages are at

Bug#322168: RFP: pyme -- Python interface to the GPGME GnuPG encryption library

2005-08-09 Thread Joost van Baal
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pyme
  Version : 0.7.0
  Upstream Author : Igor Belyi
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/pyme/
* License : LGPL
Description : Python interface to the GPGME GnuPG encryption library

Pyme is, for the most part, a direct interface to the C GPGME
library. However, it is re-packaged in a more Pythonic way --
object-oriented with classes and modules. Take a look at the classes
defined here -- they correspond directly to certain object types in GPGME
 for C.
 .
 Features:
   * Feature-rich, full implementation of the GPGME library. Supports
all GPGME features except interactive editing (coming soon).
Callback functions may be written in pure Python.
   * Ability to sign, encrypt, decrypt, and verify data.
   * Ability to list keys, export and import keys, and manage the keyring.
   * Fully object-oriented with convenient classes and modules.

-

This package was shipped with Debian from 2002-11 (see Bug #169807) till
2003-10 (see Bug #213124). It now is again being maintained upstream.

Preliminary packages are available from the upstream site (upstream
does ship a debian/ directory in the tarball) as well as from the
apt-able archive at

 deb[-src] http://non-gnu.uvt.nl/debian sarge pyme

. Beware! These packages are still pretty rough on the edges! The
package on non-gnu.uvt.nl will likely get updated soonish.

Upstream is responsive and cooperative.

It is rumoured Ubuntu is preparing a package too. (I couldn't find any
published stuff yet, though.)

Bye,

Joost

Description : Everaldo's "Crystal Clear" icon theme for KDE
Unlike kde-icons-crystal -- which is in fact Everaldos "Crystal SVG" icon
theme from 2003, -- this package does not contain graphics in SVG-format. But
the "Crystal Clear" icons are newer and seem to be becoming more popular than
 the "Crystal SVG" icons.
 .
On Aug-2005 "Crystal Clear" was the most popular icon theme on kde-look.org. If
you like the old "Crystal SVG" you should probably give "Crystal Clear" a try!

* License : GPLv2
* Description : high school timetable generator

tablix uses a coarse-grained parallel genetic algorithm to construct
sensible timetables from XML-formated school information files. It can
run on a single host as well as on a heterogeneous parallel virtual
machine by using PVM3. Its features include a number of possible
restrictions for teachers or classes, HTML formatted output, and
configurable genetic parameters.

i'll also package gtablix, a gui frontend for editing the xml files

Bug#322142: RFP: pgfsck -- PostgreSQL table checker and dumper

2005-08-09 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: pgfsck
  Version : 0.14
Upstream Author : Martijn van Oosterhout
* URL : http://svana.org/kleptog/pgsql/pgfsck.html
* License : GPL
Description : PostgreSQL table checker and dumper

(Include the long description here.)

This program serves three purposes (up tp PG 7.3):

To identify problems with PostgreSQL data files

Occasionally people post to the mailing list saying that doing a
select * from table crashes PostgreSQL. Obviously there's a problem
somewhere. Usually it can be solved by searching for the damaged tuple
and deleting it. This can be time consuming. This program should be
able to identify the right tuple right off. To make it easier for
developers to get examples of corrupted files.

When corruption happens you'd like to know what caused
it. Unfortunatly getting people to attach a table to an email is
impractical and it's difficult to tell the problem from that. One plan
is to provide a way to dump the affected pages to a file, thus making
the problem much easier to find. Dumping program of last resort

Sometimes people do silly things like deleting their xlog or trying to
upgrade their postmaster without doing a pg_dump first. Anyway, since
this program does not require the postmaster to be running, it can
recover data in all sorts of situations where it would otherwise be
difficult.

Ah ok, but that was not what the package description says:

Perhaps you can change it to something like: "VPE is a virtual switch
that can connect multiple virtual machines together, both local and
remote."

I'm using the VDE as a virtual switch for QEMU and I've found it is extremaly
useful. The possibility of creating p-t-p tunnels are IMHO less important.
Also, the VDE provides the bi-directional pipes which can be used to connect
two separate local shell applications and I think it is very cool feature.

So... I'm using the VDE not as VPN software but virtual switch for locally
execuded emulators and IMHO this is primary job for this toolkit.

Bug#322129: RFP: cvssh -- a secure bridge for cvs pservers using SSL tunnel

2005-08-09 Thread Jari Aalto
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: cvssh
  Version : 0.3
  Upstream Author : <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://sabren.net/code/cvssh/
* License : GPL
Description : a secure bridge for cvs pservers using SSL tunnel

Language: python.

(Include the long description here.)

[From the above URL]

The cvs pserver option is a useful but insecure tool for managing cvs
repositories. Most approaches to securing cvs either involve ssh
tunneling or avoid pserver altogether. The cvssh program offers a
third alternative, which combines the simplicity of ext on the client
with the flexibility of a pserver-based repository.

There are actually several other ways to access cvs:

method proscons
-
pserver easy to manage horribly insecure
chrootedpserver + ssh can be fairly secure
complex setup
ext (CVS_RSH=ssh) security through sshrequires shell accounts
kserver/gserver kerberos security no win32 support (??)
-

The ext method is interesting, because it lets you specify an external
program for connecting to the repository. By default, that program is
RSH (remote shell), but usually, people change this to ssh (secure
shell) because it encrypts your data as it moves across the net.

A basic pserver setup has no encryption, which is one reason it's
insecure. Most schemes to secure pserver involve setting up ssh to
listen on the local cvspserver port (2401) and securely forward
connections to the cvspserver port on the real server. This is called
tunnelling.

The tunnelling concept is a good one, but it can be somewhat confusing
for users to set up, and it still requires at least one shell account
to work.

I wanted something that would be simpler for my customers to set up,
so I came up with my own tunnelling scheme that does not rely on ssh
port forwarding.
