Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons: - It is, as of today, older than 600 days. - It haven't had any activity recently. - The amount of ITPs on the Debian BTS is huge and we need to clean up a bit the place. As this an automatic procedure, it could of course have something wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for example if the RFP is still of your interest, or there has been some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen their bugs ;-). (From xmldb's README) xmldb aims to provide an easy-to-use efficient 3-tier app server. Currently, it provides an xml persistance layer using the postgresql database. It is still by far the fastest program that retrieves xml data and translates it using xslt. However, it still has limited search capabilities. Required libraries are libxml2, libxslt, and pgsql. The gui requires gnome. Note: IANADD, so I am looking for an advocate/sponsor. I have already created binary deb packages for xmldb and I hope that someone wants to sponsor this package. Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons: - It is, as of today, older than 600 days. - It haven't had any activity recently. - The amount of ITPs on the Debian BTS is huge and we need to clean up a bit the place. In that case, please reopen the bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen their bugs ;-). Or if you have any kind of problems when dealing with the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help you on this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]. It checks the timestamps on component and auxiliary files, and runs the necessary commands (bibtex, makeindex, etc.) needed to make the whole document current. . prv can also be used in a ``continuous preview'' mode, which allows you to typeset and view your document everytime that you save it. . prvps allows you to preview a PostScript document with gv and then print all or selected pages. To re-open it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a body text like this: reopen 123456 thanks bts Replacing '123456' for the number of your RFP bug. The subject of the mail is ignored. Or if you have any kind of problems when dealing with the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help you on this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]. This is the first mass wnpp closing that will be done. The next close will be done on inactive RFPs older than 450 days and finally, the ones older than 365 days (an automatic script will close *inactive* RFPs when they reach one year old). A similar process is being applied to the ITP wnpp bugs in these days. I wrote this in form of a tutorial, because -it forces me to be thorough when i learn Perl, i want to do it well, though i dont strive to become a Perl expert. -it is a step by step way, with each step tested, to provide a solid basis -it may be possible to include this in debian, to turn users into programmers, and thus contribute to debian. target audience is any (woudld-be) free-software user that doesnt know Perl yet (maybe a Debian maintainer, or a newbie, or an experienced user of another OS), plus those who would like to learn to use regular expressions, or would simply like to have a good overview of it. It contains : Part 1 teaches basics of programming : from if statement to subroutines. as it only teaches basics, it is incomplete, and therefore it also includes some info about Perl's manpages, which are much more detailed. at end of this part is a short and not very good section about debugging. Part 2 teaches regular expressions as they exist in Perl (regular expressions in grep and sed are (very limited) subsets of this). due to this being a limited subject, this part is nearly crystal-clear. Part 3 intends to provide a broad and thorough overview of rest of Perl : - quoting, - shortcuts, - precedence, and - a complete list of Perl's built-in functions, with description and example for each of them. Part 4 is currently very incomplete, should contain : talks about using Perl on your Linux system. - other programming languages and programs (shell, C, X, tcl/tk) and how to use them from Perl, or use Perl from them. - getting commandline arguments and environment variables in a Perl script I basically wrote it to teach myself Perl and regexps, and like to share it with free-software community, but now that i know enough Perl for my needs (and nearly all I know about Perl is in this tutorial) my writing speed has slowed down a lot. I hope including it in Debian may result in other people adding parts that they need. I have spent last weekend trying to remove TODOs from it, but there are still a lot left, i'll be spending a couple of hours a week on it, so it should be in good (but not complete) state soon. It is already useable for learning Perl and regular expressions. I didnt have time to work on it to get it into woody, i hope it'll make sarge. I hope someone will package it. Thanks in advance. Thanks for your cooperation, --

Question about procedure for canceling an adoption...
I originally intended to adopt two orphaned packages (goats (1) and ksetisaver (2)), and followed the ITA procedures to the letter. I've since developed a time crunch (a new job) and found that I'm not going to be able to adopt either package. It doesn't look like this case is covered in the Work-Needing and Prospsective Packages online HOW-TO document(3). I've already retitled the wnpp bugs back to O: x, but it wasn't clear to me how to re-set the bug's ownership to eliminate my email -- I thought about using the noowner control message, but thought there should be a default owner for the bug. PVFS makes use of the leftover disk space in a cluster, presenting one great big file space to applications. ( 3 extra gigs on 10 nodes, 30 gigs of space to play with). Reads and writes to a file can be executed in parallel (an MPI job doing file i/o on distinct chunks of a file, say ) PVFS is GPL, and you can read more about it at http://parlweb.parl.clemson.edu/pvfs It's going to be a bit tricky to package: on the server side there's a metadata server running on one host, i/o servers running on N machines. On the client side, there is a C API one can code directly to, or one can use a kernel module and a userspace daemon to pretend the PVFS system is a regular unix-like file system. -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux smaug 2.2.18 #4 Sun Jan 21 12:20:31 EST 2001 i586 --- Received: (at 181567-done) by bugs.debian.org; 15 Sep 2005 02:55:40 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Sep 14 19:55:40 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from dsl-201-129-37-187.prod-infinitum.com.mx (cerdita.damog.net) [201.129.37.187] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EFjuV-00011G-00; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 19:55:40 -0700 Received: by cerdita.damog.net (Postfix, from userid 1000) id 8BDF3107B2E; Wed, 14 Sep 2005 21:55:11 -0500 (CDT) To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: WNPP bug closed Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Wed, 14 Sep 2005 21:55:11 -0500 (CDT) From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (David Moreno Garza) Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-5.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,VALID_BTS_CONTROL autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-CrossAssassin-Score: 253 Hello, This is an automatic mail sent to close the RFP you have reported or are involved with. A similar process is being applied to the ITP wnpp bugs in these days. Thanks for your cooperation, -- David Moreno Garza [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed, 14 Sep 2005 21:54:42
