Bug#304819: spca5xx debian package

2005-09-24 Thread Stephen Birch
Hi Guys

Just to bring you all up to date. We have been using SVN on
svn.debian.org to coordinate the package and will be maintaining it as
a team using Alioth at:

https://alioth.debian.org/projects/pkg-spca5xx/

If you wish you can check out the source from
svn+alioth://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-spca5xx/spca5xx/.

Don't go to the alioth CVS archives, we will be deleting those, consider
them obsolete.

The package itself was uploaded to Debian on Saturday night by Otavio
who helped review and polish the code, thanks Otavio.

The biggest thankyou must go to Kel who did an absolutely first class
job of creating this package in the first place. I am certain you will
like what you see of his work. Thanks Kel

Steve

It seems that this package already exists in the archive. If you have
uploaded the package yourself but forgotten to close this WNPP bug, please
read the instructions at http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp for handling
WNPP bugs properly. You should close WNPP bugs in your initial upload
with a statement like "Initial upload. (Closes: #217571)". Thanks.
Of course, it might also be that someone else uploading this package,
in which case the statements above don't apply -- in any case, the package
seems to be in the archive now.

I request an adopter for the vmnet package.
The package description is:
This program has been written to implement virtual networking
support for the Hercules S/390 simulator, but it is intentionally
generic in its functionality, so any other virtual machine
simulator/emulator program could potentially use it.

 The function is quite simple:
  - The virtual machine simulator program starts VMnet and talks
the SLIP protocol with it over stdin/out.
  - VMnet sets up a SLIP connection on the host system, talking over a
pseudo-tty to the VMnet program.
  - Once things have been set up, VMnet simply copies the data streams
between stdin/out and the SLIP psuedo-tty in both directions.
Thus, the virtual machine has a direct SLIP connection with the host,
without needing to worry about root privileges, pseudo-ttys, access
 rights, etc.

This program is more or less obsoleted by the tun driver in 2.4 kernels, and
as such I do not use it anymore. It is possible that it is still useful to
someone, and if that someone would step forward to maintain it, that would
be good. Otherwise, I will suggest that it be removed from Debian.

I'm not sure myself, but AFAIK, they are vector GIS files used by the
very expensive non-free GIS software called Arc/Info. The package is
useful for importing these into the free grass GIS package in debian.
One of the DebianGIS people has uploaded e00compr now, we will add a
description after it exits from NEW.

2005-09-24 Thread Ivan Kohler

I request an adopter for the libtest-inline-perl package.

The package description is:
Test::Inline is a way to embed tests in the same file as your source code
rather than in a seperate file. The idea is, the closer your tests are to
your code and docs, the more likely you'll keep them up to date.

Bug#85448: StegFS inactive upstream

2005-09-24 Thread Drew Scott Daniels
Hi,
I just did some checking, and StegFS appears to be inactive at both
upstreams. The last activity that I see for both is about July of 2004.
The last code update I see is marked at 18 months old. The upstream
mailing list last was announcing a new developer and some other things,
but little more seemed to have happened since.

Bug#329977: RFA: libcurses-ui-perl -- A curses based OO user interface framework

2005-09-24 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Heya,

In my crusade to lose packages, I request an adopter for the libcurses-ui-perl
package. It's upstream development was quite stalled in the last few
months, but there *could* be some activity again.

It's rdepends are sysv-rc-conf and lire (in the archive) plus some
private projects (whose authors have contacted me in private about some
issues).

The package description is far too long:
A UI framework based on the curses library. Curses::UI contains
several widgets which can be used to build a user interface:
 .
  - Buttonbox
  - Calendar
  - Checkbox
  - Container (container base element)
  - Label
  - Listbox
  - Menubar
  - PasswordEntry
  - Popupmenu (a.k.a. pulldown- or dropdown menu)
  - Progressbar
  - Radiobuttonbox
  - Texteditor (has features like word wrapping and undo)
  - Textentry
  - Textviewer
  - Widget (widget base element)
  - Window
 .
There are also a couple of dialog windows available:
 .
  - Basic dialog window
  - Error dialog window
  - Filebrowser
  - Status window
  - Progress window
  - Calendar dialog window
 .
Curses::UI can easily be configured to use a specific language.
If you want a language that is not yet supported, please let me
know. If you want to translate the needed strings, I'll add
the language to the distribution. Currently the following languages
 are supported:
 .
  - English
  - Dutch
  - German
  - Russian
  - Italian

pam_group as documented at [1] is what I need, the version in Debian [2] does
not do what I need.
pam_listfile [3] can do it, but needs an additional file to store just one
group name.

Bug#329966: RFH: lib{glib, gtk2, gnome2}*-perl -- Perl interfaces to the Gtk and Gnome libraries

2005-09-24 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'd like to continue maintaining the Gtk2-Perl packages (including the
Gnome bindings) in a team, possibly in an alioth project. I haven't
been able to invest much time into them in the last few months, so new
upstream releases needed a few weeks and the last two FTBFS bugs (for
libgtk2-perl and libgstreamer-perl) haven't received any attention from
me, which is a good sign that I need help for the packages.

I also haven't had the time to create new projects based on these nice
libraries, so I'm increasingly out of date with regard to changes in the
APIs.

Though I don't have that much free time, I would definitely have the
time to sponsor a non-DD who wants to help to maintain the packages.

I'll spare you the usual description blob, as long as you're using
something newer than woody, apt-cache show for libgnome2-gconf-perl,
libgnome2-vfs-perl, libgtk2-perl, libgtk2-traymanager-perl, libglib-perl,
libgnome2-perl, libgnome2-wnck-perl, libgtk2-spell-perl,
libgnome2-canvas-perl, libgnome2-print-perl, libgtk2-gladexml-perl
and libgtk2-trayicon-perl should give you all information you need.

Marc

Would you mind to explain, what an E00 file is? I have no idea...

Bug#329941: ITP: portreserve - Port reservation program

2005-09-24 Thread Javier Fernández-Sanguino Peña
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2005-09-24
Severity: wishlist

Package name : portreserve
Version : 0.0.0
Upstream Author : Tim Waugh
URL : http://cyberelk.net/tim/portreserve/
License : GPL
Description : The portreserve program aims to help services with well-known
ports that lie in the bindresvport() range (currently 600-1023).
It prevents programs requesting a port to the libc from occupying
a real service's port by occupying it itself, until the real service
tells it to release the port (generally in its init script).

Preliminary packages are available at
http://people.debian.org/~jfs/portreserve/

The accompanying README.Debian file is attached

Regards

Javier
portreserve for Debian
--

This package is provided to solve an issue that affects some servers and
goes like this:

- an RPC server (ypbind, rpc.mountd...) runs on boot and requests a dynamic
  port < 1024 using glibc's bindresvport().
- The libc provides the RPC server with a service in the 600-1023 with the
  following formula 'port = (PID % 424) + 600)', unfortunately, this
port is the same port of a well known service (cups, laps,
kadmin, rsync, or SSL-enabled IMAP, IRC and POP3 servers) which has not
  yet started.
- the well-known service tries to start later in the boot sequence and
fails because the port is assigned

If you look at /etc/services you will see that the services affected
with this issue are typically:

  631 IPP == CUPS
  636 LDAPS
  749 Kerberos V kadmin
  783 SpamAssasin
  873 rsyncd
992-995 SSL-enabled telnet and ftp, IMAP, IRC, and POP3

It has been suggest a number of times to add these ports to a blacklist
in libc but the glibc maintainers are against this as the affected services
might change with time (Note: sometimes this has been requested in portmap,
which is wrong since portmap does not assign ports, just registers them after
being assigned).

Typically local admins would fix this issue by changing the boot order
of services so that the server with the static well-known port was
started first, but sometimes this is not an option (i.e. mail servers
that rely on information maps from NIS).

Another option for local admins has been to assign static ports
to the RPC services _if_ the service allows for this
(like using '-p' with ypserv or ypbind). This also helps in setting
up packet filters for RC services.

What can I do fix this issue?
-
(Written for admins, but maintainers can adapt this easily to their
packages too)

If you are running some of the servers above and are affected by this issue
you need to

a) Create a /etc/portreserve/$server file with a single line, the name of
the service port as found in /etc/services or a service number

b) Modify the /etc/init.d/$server file and add this before the service
   is started:

   [ -x "`which portrelease`" ] && portrelease $server

Notice that some package maintainers might gradually add this by default so
you might find that has already been done for you. If it hasn't you
might want to submit a bug to the Debian package quoting the above and
asking the maintainer to 'Recommend' portreserve. That way you will
not have to maintain these local changes yourself.

Possible issues:

If an RPC service is already running and you install a new package that
provides a daemon that requires the same port the installation will fail
_even_ if the package uses portreserve and portreserve is installed.

There is no way around this, since it would not make sense to have portrserve
pre-configured for all possible services that require static ports if an admin
is never going to install them and it's more manageable to have packages
provide the services than having a central blacklist.

In any case, admins that want to use portreserve as a blacklist regardless
of the service being installed can do that through /etc/portrelease

Description : convert UTF-8 into 7-bit ASCII and vice versa

>From the web page:

uni2ascii "... provides conversion in both directions between UTF-8
Unicode and a variety of 7-bit ASCII equivalents. ...

The Unicode escapes available are:

 * HTML hexadecimal numeric character references (e.g. é)
 * HTML decimal numeric character references (e.g. ȳ)
 * \u-escapes, as used in Python (e.g. \u00E9)
 * \u-escapes within the BMP and \U-escapes beyond the BMP,
   e.g. \u00E9 but \U00010024.
 * \x-escapes (e.g. \x00E9)
 * \x-escapes with braces (e.g. \x{00E9})
 * Standard hexadecimal (e.g. 0x00E9)
 * Raw hexadecimal (e.g. 00E9)

Btw, I am willing to package this tool, because I need it,
but if someone else is faster, I am even more happy!

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the RFP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your RFP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 600 days.
- It haven't had any activity recently.
- The amount of ITPs on the Debian BTS is huge and we need to
clean up a bit the place.

As this an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the RFP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the

mail is ignored. Or if you have any kind of problems when dealing with

Description : Web-based issue tracking system

The goal of the Scarab project is to build an Artifact tracking system that=
 has the following features:

- A full feature set similar to those found in other Artifact tracking
systems: data entry, queries, reports, notifications to interested
parties, collaborative accumulation of comments, dependency tracking
- In addition to the standard features, Scarab has fully customizable
and unlimited numbers of Modules (your various projects), Artifact
types (Defect, Enhancement, Requirement, etc), Attributes (Operating
System, Status, Priority, etc), Attribute options (P1, P2, P3) which
can all be defined on a per Module basis so that each of your modules
is configured for your specific tracking requirements.
- Built using Java Servlet technology for speed, scalability,
  maintainability, and ease of installation.
- Import/Export ability via XML allowing for easy migration from other
  systems (e.g. Bugzilla).
- Modular code design that allows manageable modifications of existing
  and new features over time.
- Fully customizable through a set of administrative pages.
- Easily modified UI look and feel.
- Can be integrated into larger systems by re-implementing key
  interfaces.
- Is a ready to use issue management system

Package: wnpp

I request an adopter for the libjavascript-rpc-perl package.

The package description is:
JavaScript::RPC::Server::CGI is a CGI-based server library for use with
Brent Ashley's JavaScript Remote Scripting (JSRS) client library. It
works asynchronously and uses DHTML to deal with the payload.
 .
The most current version (as of the release of this module) of the

retitle 290920 RM: goats -- obsolete
reassign 290920 ftp.debian.org

I think that given "sticky note" functionality is built into future versions
of GNOME, beyond what this package was intended for, we can probably remove
this package from the archive, given it is orphaned.

Andrew
