Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the ITP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your ITP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the ITP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have

Bug#337777: RFP: libhtml-wikiconverter-perl -- An HTML to wiki markup converter

2005-11-06 Thread Joost van Baal
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libhtml-wikiconverter-perl
  Version : 0.30
  Upstream Author : David J. Iberri
* URL : CPAN : HTML::WikiConverter
* License : GPL or Artistic License, like Perl
  Description : An HTML to wiki markup converter

 HTML::WikiConverter is an HTML to wiki converter. It can convert HTML
 source into a variety of wiki markups, called wiki dialects.
 HTML::WikiConverter supports the DocuWiki, Kwiki, MediaWiki, MoinMoin,
 Oddmuse, PhpWiki, PmWiki, SlipSlap, TikiWiki, UseMod and WakkaWiki wiki
 dialects.

I've build a package using dh-make-perl.  It's available from
deb[-src] http://non-gnu.uvt.nl/debian sarge libhtml-wikiconverter-perl.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to maintain this package; therefore
I won't upload it to the Debian archive.

Bye,

  * gslsf: The GSL special function module. Currently, this module
provides an interface to nearly 200 GSL special functions.
  * gslconst: The GSL constants module. This module defines many
constants such as CONST_MKSA_SPEED_OF_LIGHT, CONST_CGSM_BOLTZMANN,
etc.
  * gslinterp: The GSL interpolation module, which includes routines
for linear interpolation, cubic splines, etc.
  * gslrand: The GSL random number module. This module supports most

  Description : PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) interface for S-Lang

 PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) is a software package which permits a
 heterogeneous collection computers connected by a network to be used
 as a single large parallel computer.
 .
 The S-Lang PVM module provides a S-Lang interface to PVM. By
 organizing distributed computations with S-Lang, one gains the
 advantages of programming in an interpreted language.
 .
 With this approach, one can make efficient use of all available
 computer resources: high level logic is handled in interpreted code,
 CPU intensive work is done in compiled code and PVM simplifies using
 all available CPUs.

Bug#252101: ITP: gromacs -- versatile package to perform molecular dynamics

2005-11-06 Thread Andreas Tille

On Sun, 6 Nov 2005, Nicholas Breen wrote:

1. Did you consider putting the changes you do to upstream into seperate
patches, maintained in a debian/patches directory via a patch-system
like dpatch or quilt?

Didn't seem necessary. Nearly the entire set of patches relates to
documentation changes or additions that I'm pushing upstream, which should
shrink the non-debian-specific components of the diff to nearly nothing
if they're accepted.

Well, perhaps dpatch just helps you to maintain your own stuff so perhaps
you should consider it anyway.

The reason for the Debian-specific name is to make it blindingly obvious
that it's a change from upstream. Because scientific software demands
reproducibility, the authors prefer it if all changes from the upstream
source are clearly marked;

You are right that it should be clearly marked, but this should be
done in a README.Debian file or somewhere else in the documentation and
not really in a version number change.

Splitting off -doc packages is always something of a judgment call
between space efficiency and Packages.gz bloat.

I'm personally a very big friend of splitting up large documentation from
the binary package.

The total of
/usr/share/doc/gromacs and /usr/share/gromacs/tutor (the tutorial files)
is only 4.3MB, out of a total installed size of ~16MB. Since this isn't
that much of a savings, I decided it wasn't worth splitting off a
separate -doc package.

Well, I would consider every documentation above 0,5MB worth splitting
up and in your case it is 25% which is definitely worth the effort.
Especially if you think of binary packages for 12 architectures that copy
architecture independant stuff into their mirrors.

I am certainly amenable to team maintenance, and am greatly interested in
assisting with other chemistry software. I'm not a DD, and do need a
sponsor for the package. I've asked Andreas Tille (cc:'d on this message)
already, but he sounds fairly busy at the moment -- perhaps the two of you
could discuss that?

I would prefer if somebody else would take over the sponsoring but would
be serve as a fallback if nobody steps in.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

Bug#319201: testing kiax

2005-11-06 Thread Mark Purcell
On Sunday 06 November 2005 16:49, Santiago Garcia Mantinan wrote:
  Here is a patch for 0.8.4 cleaning up the iLBC bits:
  svn co http://svn.openfmi.net/dev/people/danchev/kiax

 About all this... I really think iLBC is a great codec, isn't there any way
 we can include it? like trying to persuade upstream to change licencing or
 something?

The problem is a lot deeper than just kiax ;-)

iaxclient, asterisk, kphone and others all have the iLBC code included.

In fact kiax doesn't have the iLBC code included, but does include the
iaxclient code. So if we were to use iaxclient as a library for kiax then
the problem moves to iaxclient and kiax can be uploaded.

 I'd really love to see iLBC included somehow, the best way would be because
 it is free, anybody has any idea on all this? any contact? does it seem
 doable?

It is all pretty well documented at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=319201

That said it appears that both asterisk and kphone upstream appear to just be
ignoring http://ilbcfreeware.org/documentation/gips_iLBClicense.pdf

 is a chess engine protocol adaptor. It connects a UCI protocol engine to
xboard frontend.
 Common chess frontends have a winboard/xboard input interface, modern
 chess engines speak the UCI universal chess interface protocol. This
 protocol adaptor makes it possilble to use standard chess frontends,
 like xboard or scid with UCI speaking engines and play chess against
 them.

I am really surprized there is no Archive::Ar module in Debian
repository. Well, RFP follows.

* Package name: libarchive-ar-perl
  Version : 1.13b
  Upstream Author : Jay Bonci [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : CPAN
* License : GPL
  Description : Interface for manipulating ar archives

Archive::Ar is a pure-perl way to handle standard ar archives.

This is useful if you have those types of old archives on the system,
but it is also useful because .deb packages for the Debian GNU/Linux
distribution are ar archives. This is one building block in a future
chain of modules to build, manipulate, extract, and test debian modules
with no platform or architecture dependence.

You may notice that the API to Archive::Ar is similar to Archive::Tar,
and this was done intentionally to keep similarity between the
Archive::* modules

Severity: wishlist

Package name : portreserve
Version : 0.0.0
Upstream Author : Tim Waugh twaugh _AT_ redhat.com
URL : http://cyberelk.net/tim/portreserve/
License : GPL
Description : The portreserve program aims to help services with well-known
ports that lie in the bindresvport() range (currently 600-1023).
It prevents programs requesting a port to the libc from occupying
a real service's port by occupying it itself, until the real service
tells it to release the port (generally in its init script).

Preliminary packages are available at
http://people.debian.org/~jfs/portreserve/

portreserve for Debian
--

This package is provided to solve an issue that affects some servers and=20
goes like this:

- an RPC server (ypbind, rpc.mountd...) runs on boot and requests a dynamic
  port  1024 using glibc's bindresvport().
- The libc provides the RPC server with a service in the 600-1023 with the
  following formula 'port =3D (PID % 424) + 600)', unfortunately, this
  port is the same port of a well known service (cups, laps,
  kadmin, rsync, or SSL-enabled IMAP, IRC and POP3 servers) which has not
  yet started.
- the well-known service tries to start later in the boot sequence and
  fails because the port is assigned

If you look at /etc/services you will see that the services affected
with this issue are typically:

  631 IPP =3D=3D CUPS
  636 LDAPS
  749 Kerberos V kadmin
  783 SpamAssasin
  873 rsyncd
  992-995 SSL-enabled telnet and ftp, IMAP, IRC, and POP3

It has been suggest a number of times to add these ports to a blacklist
in libc but the glibc maintainers are against this as the affected services
might change with time (Note: sometimes this has been requested in portmap,=
=20
which is wrong since portmap does not assign ports, just registers them aft=
er=20
being assigned).

Typically local admins would fix this issue by changing the boot order
of services so that the server with the static well-known port was
started first, but sometimes this is not an option (i.e. mail servers
that rely on information maps from NIS).=20

Another option for local admins has been to assign static ports=20
to the RPC services _if_ the service allows for this=20
(like using '-p' with ypserv or ypbind). This also helps in setting
up packet filters for RC services.

What can I do fix this issue?
-
(Written for admins, but maintainers can adapt this easily to their
packages too)

If you are running some of the servers above and are affected by this issue=
=20
you need

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Joost van Baal [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

I intend to upload the uruk Debian package.

* Package name: uruk
  Version : 2005071
  Upstream Author : Joost van Baal [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://mdcc.cx/uruk
* License : GPL
  Description : Very small firewall script, for configuring iptables

 Uruk is a wrapper for Linux iptables. A very simple shell script, but
 useful if you need similar (but not the same) packet filtering
 configurations on lots of boxes. It uses a template file, which gets
 sourced as a shell script, to get lists of source addresses, allowed to
 use specific network services. Listing these groups of allowed hosts
 and allowed services is all what's needed to configure your box.

 Main difference with other firewall setup tools: uruk is just a very
 small shell script, supports only iptables (yet), no gui, no interactive
 setup, no default configuration (yet). You'll like this if you'd rather
 not have lots of (probably buggy) code between you and your filtering
 rules.

The Debian package is available from

 deb[-src] http://mdcc.cx/debian local contrib

. I'll do some minor work on it before uploading.

I am using this script to manage iptables on quite some systems, for
more than 2 years now. I guess it's stable enough to get uploaded to
Debian now. I've done some comparison with other similar tools in
Debian; see http://mdcc.cx/uruk/ . Since uruk is _much_ smaller than
all other scripts, I guess there's a niche for this one too.

Bye,

Joost

* License : GPL
  Description : XMPP and Jabber implementation for Python

PyXMPP is a Python XMPP (RFC 3920,3921) and Jabber
(http://www.jabber.org/protocol/) implementation. It is based on libxml2 --
fast and fully-featured XML parser.

PyXMPP provides most core features of the XMPP protocol and several JSF-defined
extensions. PyXMPP provides building blocks for creating Jabber clients and
components. Developer uses them to setup XMPP streams, handle incoming events
and create outgoing stanzas (XMPP packets).

Features

* nearly complete XMPP Core (RFC 3920) protocol for client connections
(includes SASL, TLS and Strinprep)
* mostly complete XMPP IM (RFC 3921) protocol (lacks privacy lists)
* XMPP error objects including translations to and from legacy codes for
backward compatibility (JEP-0086).
* legacy authentication (digest and plain) (JEP-0078).
* component protocol (JEP-0114).
* Service Discovery (JEP-0030).
* vCards -- both Jabber vcard-temp and RFC 2426
* basic parts of the Multi-User Chat protocol (JEP-0045)
* delayed delivery timestamps (JEP-0091).

Hi,

i would be very happy if anyone would build a package for flac-tools
now. So i could include support for it in my package irmp3. Otherwise it
will not have support for the flac audio format.

Bug#324179: quake3/quake3-data packages available

2005-11-06 Thread Marc Leeman
I've just finished my first version of the quake3 packages.

I use the debian configuration of Jamie Wilkinson [EMAIL PROTECTED], and
adjusted it (thanks man, you saved me a bunch of work :) ). The structure
of the packages is otherwise the same.
  quake3
  quake3-data

In order not to break possibly official installs, the startup script is
q3a (instead of quake3).

The game can (like the quake2 packages) be run from disk and CDROM. The
game can be played with the official CD available (pk3 files) or with
the demo of the game.

Different wrt the quake2 version is that you need to install the point
release to play the shareware/demo version as the full game, due to a UI
change in the code.

I have some further cleaning up to do, but the packages seem currently
stable enough to be used. One thing I certainly have to check is the
latest versions of the files floating around the net, but the last ones
I seemed to be able to pick up were:
  - linuxq3ademo-1.11-6.x86.gz.sh
  - linuxq3apoint-1.32b-3.x86.run

Future (to be expected this week) improvements will include installation
of Quake3 Team Arena.

If anyone is interested in the packages for testing, using; send me a
mail and I'll pass the URI along where you can download them, I am kind
of hesitant to publish the URI directly (my poor machine ;) )

Since I haven't seen any replies and/or further mails after the initial
ITP from the package maintainer (with the ITP about 24h of id going
GPL), I wonder if the maintainer continued this project, in which case a
reply would be appreciated. If not, ... euhm, what next?

Hi Marc,

as you can see, I've closed the my ITP a few months(!) ago. I just had not
enough time to package q3. Please feel free to maintain the package -- I'm
interested in playing q3 too ;)

Bug#337849: RFA: cvsbook -- Open Source Development with CVS, the book

2005-11-06 Thread Frank Lichtenheld
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the cvsbook package. Due to time constraints and
the fact that I little use it today, I would like to give it away. It is a
pretty low maintainance package unless you decide to try to package the
latest version of it which only comes as an PDF file you would have to convert
to something sensible first (see the homepage of the author for the
details).

I will not sponsor uploads of this package for non-DDs. In this case it
would probably easier to do the work myself...

The package description is:
 This is an electronic version of the first edition of a book written by
 Karl Fogel and published by Coriolis, Inc. This book covers CVS, starting
 with a tutorial and going on to cover repository administration, more
 advanced topics, troubleshooting, and a complete CVS reference.
 .
 If you're looking for a gentle introduction to CVS, or an in-depth
 coverage that's easier to follow than the documentation in CVS, read this
 book.

Bug#322774: Upload coming soon

2005-11-06 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Today I finished packaging ddccontrol-db and began packaging ddccontrol.
I ran into an issue with the -lXinerama flag, but it appears that the
offending behavior has been corrected in a newer upstream CVS version.
I am communicating with upstream to see what the best resolution is
(backport fix or wait for new release).

Uploads should be coming soon.

o Custom written search algorithm is lightning fast and very scalable.
o Search algorithm searches across packet boundries for total coverage and
  forensic quality.
o Uses libpcap, a popular, portable and stable library for network data cap=
ture.
o Can be used against a live network or a tcpdump formatted capture file.
