I request an adopter for the libdbd-ldap-perl package.

The package description is:
 DBD::LDAP is a DBI extension module adding an SQL database interface to
 standard LDAP databases to Perl's database-independent database interface.
 You will need access to an existing LDAP database or set up your own using
 an LDAP server, ie. OpenLDAP, see (http://www.openldap.org).
 .
 The main advantage of DBD::LDAP is the ability to query LDAP databases via
 standard SQL queries in leu of cryptic LDAP filters. LDAP is optimized for
 quick lookup of existing data, but DBD::LDAP does support entry inserts,
 updates, and deletes with commit/rollback via the standard SQL commands!

Bug#337944: RFA: mon -- monitor hosts/services/whatever and alert about problems

2005-11-07 Thread Roderick Schertler
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'd like to find somebody to adopt the mon and libmon-client-perl
packages. I just haven't been able to give them the attention they
deserve, particularly since having a baby.

The biggest outstanding issue is the need to switch from running the
daemon as user daemon to using a dedicated account. I've got a patch
for this from Emmanuel Lacour which does most of the job but needs a
bit of work. I'll send you the patch and our email about it. I'd also
gladly supply my CVS archive and saved email about the packages.

The package description is:
 mon is a tool for monitoring the availability of services. Services
 may be network-related, environmental conditions, or anything that can
 be tested with software. If a service is unavailable mon can tell you
 with syslog, email, your pager or a script of your choice. You can
 control who gets each alert based on the time of day or day of week,
 and you can control how often an existing problem is re-alerted.
 .
 More information can be found at http://www.kernel.org/software/mon/.

Bug#337960: ITP: python-logilab-astng -- Python Abstract Syntax Tree New Generation

2005-11-07 Thread Alexandre Fayolle
Package: wnpp

* Package name: python-logilab-astng
  Version : 0.13.1
  Upstream Author : Sylvain Thénault [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.logilab.org/projects/astng
* License : GPL
  Description : Python Abstract Syntax Tree New Generation

 The aim of this module is to provide a common base representation of
 python source code for projects such as pychecker, pyreverse,
 pylint... Well, actually the development of this library is essentialy
 governed by pylint's needs.
 .
 It extends class defined in the compiler.ast [1] module with some
 additional methods and attributes. Instance attributes are added by a
 builder object, which can either generate extended ast (let's call
 them astng ;) by visiting an existant ast tree or by inspecting living
 object. Methods are added by monkey patching ast classes.

This package contains code that was in python-logilab-common, and which
upstream split in a new library. The newest pylint package uses the new
code.

Bug#338026: ITP: gnormalize -- gnormalize is a front-end to normalize, an audio converter, encoder, ripper, meta data (tag) editor and audio cd player

* Package name: gnormalize
  Version : 0.46

* URL : http://gnormalize.sourceforge.net/

  Description : gnormalize is a front-end to normalize, an audio converter,
encoder, ripper, meta data (tag) editor and audio cd player

gnormalize decodes the MP3/MP4/MPC/OGG/APE/FLAC file to WAV, then
normalizes the WAV to a targeted volume level and re-encodes it.
Moreover, gnormalize can extract Audio CD track and output as various
popular audio formats (MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE, FLAC, WAV) with fast
speed and high quality. gnormalize can also convert audio format between
MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE and FLAC with high fidelity, which meets your
need to play and collect audio files. It can change the encoding and
Metadata (tag) properties of final normalized files.
gnormalize can be used to adjust the volume of audio files to a standard
volume level, where different recording levels on different albums can
cause the volume to vary greatly from song to song.
gnormalize is an alternative for replaygain, because there is no
consistent standard by which to define the appropriate replay gain which
mp3 encoders and players agree on, and no automatic way to set the
volume adjustment for each track.

Bug#251618: Hugin packaging

2005-11-07 Thread Florent Bayle

Could anybody comment on the status of packaging hugin?

Hello,

I still intent to package Hugin, but Hugin can't currently be packaged due to
licensing problems between Hugin (under GPL) and Vigra (a library needed by
Hugin which is NOT under GPL). I'm working with debian-legal, Hugin and Vigra
authors to solve this issue, but I don't know how many time it will take to
correct that.

Some links :
 - http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/09/msg00515.html
 -
http://kogs.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/pipermail/vigra/2005-September/87.html
 -

 - http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2005/10/msg00062.html

I wrote my last mail to Vigra's author on 10/10/2005, but I don't get any
since that date, and I plan to re-send it soon, because I also really want to
have hugin in Debian.

2005-11-07 Thread Florent Bayle
Are you still requesting for a package of YAPH ?
This program seems to be dead (no release since August 31, 2003), and it's not
a good idea to package a program with dead upstream.

If you can find a new/better upstream, I'm ready to package it, but only in
that case.

Bug#338058: ITP: markdown -- text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers

2005-11-07 Thread Pierre THIERRY
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Pierre THIERRY [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: markdown
  Version : 1.0.1
  Upstream Author : John Gruber [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/
* License : BSD-style
  Description : text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers

Markdown is a text-to-HTML conversion tool for web writers. Markdown
allows you to write using an easy-to-read, easy-to-write plain text
format, then convert it to structurally valid XHTML (or HTML).

Thus, Markdown is two things: a plain text markup syntax, and a
software tool, written in Perl, that converts the plain text markup
to HTML.

Markdown works both as a Movable Type plug-in and as a standalone Perl
script -- which means it can also be used as a text filter in BBEdit
(or any other application that supporst filters written in Perl).

   Description : gnormalize is a front-end to normalize, an audio
 converter, encoder, ripper, meta data (tag) editor and audio cd player

That's a *very* long short description. Common practice is to keep it
under about 60 characters. How about this:

Graphical audio ripper, encoder, converter, player and tag editor

Although I'll be the first to agree that is a thoroughly ugly sentence
construction.  A more general form:

Graphical music file creation and manipulation tool

Or perhaps:

Music file creation and manipulation tool for GNOME

(That is, assuming that the 'g' in gnormalize is a GNOME 'g' and not some
other 'g')

Although this short form doesn't list all of the specific capabilities of
the tool, it should be enough to give people enough info to decide whether
they want to look at the long description. You could then use the short
description you originally provided as the first paragraph of the long
description, which is a good introduction to the tool.
