 Hello,

I've seen you filled this ITP bug last September, are you still in
 interest for packaging ifolder?

I ask this since I'm interested too, so if you are not anymore, I'd like
to change the ownership of the bug and package and upload ifolder.

If you are still working on it/interested, would you like to work
 together or co-maintain?

 Cheers and thanks,

Hi,

I'm interested too in this software and I don't see any step to get
iFolder into Debian. I'll be glad if we can work together in order to
create a useful package.

I've found [0] some work from Martin and I've begun working on
libflaim-4.8.61 and simias_1.5.6088.1 [1] but there are a lot of issues
to resolv IMHO.

Grip has been reported lots of bugs. However I haven't make
a enough time to follow and maintain.

The package description is as follows:

It has the ripping capabilities of cdparanoia builtin, but can also
use external rippers (such as cdda2wav). It also provides an
automated frontend for MP3 encoders, letting you take a disc and
transform it easily straight into MP3s. The CDDB protocol is
supported for retrieving track information from disc database
servers. Grip works with DigitalDJ to provide a unified
computerized version of your music collection.

Description : PDF files password cracker

pdfcrack is a simple tool for recovering passwords from pdf-documents.
It should be able to handle all pdfs that uses the standard security handler
but the pdf-parsing routines are a bit of a quick hack so you might stumble
across some pdfs where the parser needs to be fixed to handle.

pdfcrack allows configure the size of the searched password, use an
external wordlist file and save cracking sessions to restore it later.

This software uses xpdf/poppler stuff (categorized as free).

ipmasq package was orphaned with many bugs few months ago. Although I
have not been active using this package, I took over this since I reffer
this as a package to install for the easy gateway machine set-up in my
Debian Reference. (I also had contributed some example scripts.)

I have fixed most of the bugs which were mostly simple fixes. I think
this package needs new maintainer with ithe strong firewall skill. So I
put this to RFA.
---
Package: ipmasq
Priority: extra
Section: net
Maintainer: Osamu Aoki [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Architecture: all
Description: Securely initializes IP Masquerade forwarding/firewalling
This package contains scripts to initialize IP Masquerade for use as a
firewall. IP Masquerade is a feature of Linux that allows an entire network
of computers to be connected to another network (usually the Internet) with
only one network address on the other network. IP Masquerade is often
referred to as NAT (Network Address Translation) on other platforms.
 .
By default, this package configures the system as a basic forwarding
firewall, with IP spoofing and stuffed routing protection. The firewall
will allow hosts behind the firewall to get to the Internet, but not allow
connections from the Internet to reach the hosts behind the firewall.
However, ipmasq now features a very flexible framework where you can
override any of the predefined rules if you so choose. It also allows you
to control if the rules are reinterpreted when pppd brings a link up or
 down.
 .
This package should be installed on the firewall host and not on the
 hosts behind the firewall.
 .
IP Masquerade requires the kernel to be compiled with masquerading support
(please see documentation for specific kernel options required).

I see that the repo[1] linked by Gerfried in the original mail
contains a package for this game.

Right. Did you also read the README in that directory?

Gerfried, are you still interested in maintaining this game package?

 Yes.

If so, some Debian Developer could sponsor an upload, if you ask for
one. Probably he might be a member of the Debian Games Team[*].

I really wonder: you send this message to someone with a @debian.org
address. I haven't yet met a person that has a @debian.org address and
is _no_ Debian Developer... Furthermore if you check the archives for
at least the list when it still was hostes on alioth, or take a peek
into the IRC channel for the group, you might find me there, too. I
would have expected that such a request would come from someone who is a
bit more involved themselfes...

If you decide to maintaina the package, please send an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the following contents. The bug will be
closed yet another time at upload time.

If you would read the README you would notice that an upload still
can't happen currently. The clanlib 0.7 packages done back then by
fenio weren't approved by the clanlib maintainers, and there wasn't yet
a different approch to get clanlib 0.7 into Debian. Furthermore I don't
consider this issue high priority as the gameplay currently is even
less advanced than widelands, and as you can see in #295191 it isn't
considered release fit neither.

 So long,

is there something about the way that dependencies work that i don't
know about (quite likely) - are Depends auto-generated from their
 -dev build-depends?

The ${shlibs:Depends} bit is magic that gets replaced by all the shared
libraries that you built the package against, when you built it.

   yaay!

Is that the answer to your question?

   yup!

ok - how would it be possible for that to end up with liblcms1.08
as the Depends, but still have liblcms1.13 in the -dev thing?

somehow, scribus-ng-1.3.3.2-dfsg1 has ended up with build-dep of
   1.13-dev but a Depend of 1.08.

Well, the build-dep is set by the maintainer, whereas the Depend is set
 automatically.

I know there was talk of making the auto-detection somehow determine the
actual dependencies by analysing the functions being called by the program,
and then working out the minimum library version that provides those (in an
attempt to fix the problem where a program that would happily work with
version 1 of a library, ends up with a dependency on version 100, just
because the maintainer has that version of the -dev package installed) but
I thought that was still science fiction.

sounds like complete twaddle, to me :)

... kick out of a build because the function's missing, yes.
try to install versions of a library to detect the required minimum?
i'll see it when i believe it.

 Does the dependency actualy work?

 nope.

Can you run scribus with 1.08?

 nope - because there's a function missing.

how the heck he managed to get it to work i really don't know.
i think he built it on sarge or something.

To me it looks like someone has managed to force the package to build when
they had -dev.1.08 installed, presumably by running the rules file
directly, rather than using debuild or some such. If it all works then the
build-dep is a bug. If it doesn't, then it needs rebuilding.

 a rebuild still shows Depends: liblcms1 = 1.08

which is why i'm complaining to this guy because he doesn't understand
 that there's a problem.

I suppose you could check some of these theories by grabbing the source,
 and building it yourself.

yehh, i've already installed liblcms1.15 to get working with the
 package, otherwise i would.

and i need a working scribus-ng more than i need the maintainer to
 understand the problem.

 l.

Bug#380366: ITP: python-jinja -- simple pythonic template language

2006-07-29 Thread Piotr Ozarowski
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Piotr Ozarowski [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: python-jinja
  Version : 0.8
Upstream Author : Armin Ronacher [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://wsgiarea.pocoo.org/jinja/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : simple pythonic template language

Jinja is a text-based template language similar to Cheetah and Smarty.
The syntax and parts of the code where taken from the django template.
 .
Like the django template, Jinja tries to simplify templating but provide a
powerful syntax. The idea is to remove all application logic from the
template. Sounds limited but you should have a look at the example below to
see the power behind the system.

Bug#379956: O: gtk-qt-engine -- theme engine using Qt for GTK+ 2.x

BTW: Is there any reason why the source package is gtk-qt-engine while
the actual package name is gtk2-engines-gtk-qt? I'd really like to
rename the package to upstreams gtk-qt-engine.

AFAIK, some sort of policy from the GNOME packaging group. I'm CC'ing
them to get their confirmation. Other packages, e.g. geramik, also
 follow this policy.

I've already posted this to d.d-gtk-gnome but it looks this list has
more traffic. Sadly it is not available through gmane.org so please CC me.

---8--8--8---

Hi devs,

I've adopted the package gtk-qt-engine a few days ago and wonder why the
binary is actually named gtk2-engines-gtk-qt. I'm not really happy
with this name and would like to rename the package back to upstreams
name gtk-qt-engine.

Here some thoughts:

First, the package is not really a gnome package since it's mostly
interesting for KDE users. So the gtk2-engines-naming scheme is a bit
misleading. Especially for gnome-users just browsing for gnome-themes or
KDE-users searching directly for the gtk-qt-engine.

Second, the package is not really a gtk2-theme. In fact it provides a
program for the KDE control center which allows to chose one of the
available gnome themes OR the look-like-QT-theme for gtk apps.

I'm not sure why the former maintainer of this package decided to name
the package this way. I've asked him and he is not sure anymore but
seems to be uncomfortable with the name as well today.

I'd really like to rename the package back to gtk-qt-engine, but since
I'm not sure why the package has it's current name, I ask on this list.

Bastian

Bug#380382: O: gpdf

2006-07-29 Thread Loïc Minier
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm orphaning gpdf since I think it's current maintainer is MIA and I'm
in Uploaders. It has been unmaintained for quite some time, with
security bugs open for months, and is in general a source of security
bugs because it is based on xpdf.

Upstream does not support gpdf anymore, it was superseded by evince
 since GNOME 2.12.

This package might be a good candidate for removal, but I'm leaving it
as orphaned for now, just in case. I've cleaned it up a little.

Bug#380385: ITP: rest2web -- web site builder using ReST as basic content format

2006-07-29 Thread martin f krafft
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: martin f krafft [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: rest2web
  Version : 0.4.0~alpha
Upstream Author : Michael Foord [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.voidspace.org.uk/python/rest2web/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : web site builder using ReST as basic content format

Packages are in preparation, but some issues have to be resolved
with upstream first regarding the use of the pythonutils module
collection, which I refuse to package up as is because the name's
just too broad.

If everything goes well, this will be (among) the first package(s)
to use ~ in the version. Yay! :)

Here's the long description.

rest2web is a simple tool that lets you build your website from a single
template (or as many as you want), and keep the contents in ReStructured Text
(docutils; you can still keep pages in HTML if needed).
 .
It can also aid in having multiple translations of your site (i18n) and
provides a host of other features:
 .
 * Automatically builds index pages and navigation links (sidebars and
   breadcrumbs).
 * Embedded code in templates for unlimited expressiveness.
 * Flexible macro system.
 * Uses relative links, so sites can be viewed from the filesystem.
 * Unicode internally - so you don't have to be.
 * Includes features for multiple translations of sites.
 * Built-in gallery creator plugin.
 * The basic system is very easy to use.
 * Lots of powerful (optional) features.
 .
Adding new pages is as easy as dropping a text file into the right folder.
rest2web builds the new page and adds a link to it in the index (optionally
with a description as well). Removing a page is just as easy. Delete the
file, and when you run rest2web again it removes the entry.
 .
Because rest2web generates sites using relative paths, the results can be
viewed from the filesystem. This means that it is an effective way of
 bundling documentation.

I see that the repo[1] linked by Gerfried in the original mail

Right. Did you also read the README in that directory?

Now I have. Note that DRI is almost always needed for games with
graphics a little more advanced than a basic level, but that info
(except the upgrade stuff) should have been in the ITP bug report,
IMHO. It would have been more visible and allowed others to test the
experimental packages you prepared on DRI enabled systems.

Gerfried, are you still interested in maintaining this game package?

 Yes.

Thanks for reopening the bug.

Sorry, for that, this mail was semi automated, in the sense that I
almost fully copy pasted the whole thing in there from another mail
and adapated the first paragaph, forgetting to check if the second
part applies.

Seeing the bug closed by damog because is ITP for more than a year,
currently almost a year and a half from its opening, and having that
on Debian Games Teams WNPP[1] wiki I went over it (like I did with
others, pinging the ones which I thought were interesting enough).
This was interesting.

I don't see any reason to get upset for something that can clearly be
an understandable mistake. I made a simillar mistake with Daniel
Bauman (indeed I saw a non @d.o mail), he didn't mind. Maybe you
forgot, but this was supposed to be fun ;-) .

If you decide to maintaina the package, please send an email to

closed yet another time at upload time.

So? That was more than one year ago and you could have blocked this
ITP with the bug which already existed, #188449, and add one more
comment about the blocking in both bugs. I don't see anything bad in
letting others know that you are invloved and interested and showing
the clanlib maintainer that the new version is needed. Sarge was out
the door one year ago, but still clanlib 0.7 is not in Debian, because
of an unresponsive maintainer (#188449 says enough to motivate one to
hijack the package, as Daniel said he would do).
