Bug#363967: ipw3945 package status

2006-09-21 Thread Jurij Smakov
Hi Daniel,

You've mentioned in August that you are uploading the source for ipw3945 module
to the archive. As of today, I cannot see anything ipw3945-related there,
besides
the non-free binary firmware package. Is there any progress with it? I recently
got a laptop with this card, so I'd be willing to do the testing if neccessary.

Also, when I was setting it up manually, I've bumped into the problem with
ieee80211 modules. When I've built the ipw3945 against the newer ieee80211 from
the packages that you maintain, I was only able to load them using the
modprobe's
"force" option. I guess that's because new and old ieee80211 modules have some
duplicated symbols, and even though the ieee80211 modules are updated to the
new
version, symbol information in kernel symbol table still corresponds to the old
symbols, hence the problems. If that's correct, this situation should be at
least
documented somewhere.

Yes, that's definitely right, I have not found any time for Debian work for
quite some time... Moreover I have never really been the best person for this
specific package. Having learned (some) Russian in school I simply wanted to
make sure that it would not get lost when it was orphaned as I use it myself
once in a while (and are always impressed by its size!).

No, not at all, please go ahead! I'm glad that you want to take it over and
perhaps should have given it up for adoption earlier... (I severely suffer
from the syndrom of being convinced or at least hoping that after having done
hundreds of other things I'd at some point in time get to doing "this thing"
as well... a point in time that for the majority of things never comes
though...)

Thanks,
Yven

Sorry, still working on the final security patches. Its because my
work-capacity has been significantly reduced during the last few weeks by
severe private-life hazards.

Please understand that I have to fix some real life issues first.

I regret all this, but I did not choose this doom either. I would
understand if you would not go ahead lifting this package as I have to
admit that I will not be able to put much time into this any-time soon
(at least not till nov).

Bug#382184: License clarification of haskell-edison

2006-09-21 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi,

I am trying to get the Edison library into the Debian archive[1] and
during that process some question arose about the license of Edison. The
README file states

"Edison is released under a BSD3 style license. See the COPYRIGHT
  file for details."

and the source files state

"License : BSD3; see COPYRIGHT file for terms and conditions"

But if I look at the COPYRIGHT file it contains the MIT license [2]
instead of the BSD3 license [3].

This means that either the COPYRIGHT file is wrong ore the License
statements in the source files and the README. I guess the wrong license
was pasted in COPYRIGHT, but I do need clarification before the package
can be included into Debian.

Greetings Arjan

Description: Pretty version of df(1) command.
Discus aims to make df prettier, with features such as color, graphs,
and smart formatting of numbers (automatically choosing the most suitable
size from kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes, or terabytes). If you don't
want Discus deciding the best sizes, you can also choose your own
increments, along with specifying the number of decimal places you'd like
 to see.

Bug#382184: [Fwd: Re: License clarification of haskell-edison]

2006-09-21 Thread Arjan Oosting
Hi,

I just received a clarification of the license of Haskell-Edison.
Upstream will adjust the README and the Licence headers in the source
files in the next release.

The license of haskell-edison is the MIT license as stated in the
COPYRIGHT file.

Greetings Arjan

Ugh. I see I did not pay sufficient attention to the actual license wording.
It is indeed the MIT license (as originally licenced by Dr. Okasaki), and the
text of the COPYRIGHT file is correct. My classification of it as a BSD3
license, is therefore incorrect.

Sorry for the confusion. I'll get this straightened out for the next release.
In the meantime, the text of the COPYRIGHT file is the correct license.

Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the rpl package. rpl is a free replacement for the
original non-free rpl package. This package is Debian native and will
apparently soon be included in Fedora. Since I have lost interest in
rpl I ask that someone take over maintenance. It's written in Python
and has 216 installations in popcon.

The package description is:
rpl is a UN*X text replacement utility. It will replace strings with
new strings in multiple text files. It can work recursively over
directories and supports limiting the search to specific file
 suffixes.

I request an adopter for the liblingua-en-numbers-ordinate-perl package.

The package description is:
This is the CPAN Perl module Lingua::EN::Numbers::Ordinate.
 .
There are two kinds of numbers in English -- cardinals (1,
 2, 3...), and ordinals (1st, 2nd, 3rd...). This module
provides functions for generating the ordinal form of a number,
 given its cardinal value.

Hi all,

Sorry to but in, but have you seen the log of

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=350740

This guy seems pretty interested and active. It seems your work and his
are uncoordinated at the moment though.

Thanks,

James

Bug#387926: suspicious

2006-09-21 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Hi,
for those worrying, I got from madcoder that eaccelerator was uploaded
without a GPL exception for PHP, but is flagged suspicious by
ftp-master. Unless eaccelerator would be accepted, this should be
brought to d-legal before reuploading the same upstream version.

Bug#351430: seamonkey for etch ?

I agree. Hendrik-Jan if you have an account on alioth.debian.org can you
tell me the name. Or if you don't have an account, can you set one up?
Then I will arange for you to get access to the seamonkey SVN repository.

1.1 sounds like it should go to experimental. For etch we should
concentrate on 1.0.5 or whatever is the most recent stable version IMO.

I've already mentioned this to Alexander but I'll say it again, IMO
seamonkey should be one package rather than split up. It is supposed to
be an Internet suite after all and people who want a more fine-grained set
of packages can use firefox et al.

btw, I might get some time to work on seamonkey again soon. I have
already uploaded 1.0.5 for Linspire but their standards and ours are
different so I can't simply copy my existing package.

I think we should try to talk with the release managers. All new major
versions of mozilla products are going to be released just after the
hypothetical date of the freeze, but since upstream will drop support
for the current branches within six months after etch hypothetical release
date, that means we'll be on our own for security support quite quickly.
On the other hand, the soon to be released branches will be supported at
least 6 more months, which means we'll be on our own much later. It is a
better long term support plan...

I think we should not impose to users who currently use mozilla-browser
and al. packages to have everything installed. A meta seamonkey package
installing all the fine grained packages would be a good thing though.
I know quite a lot of people, including me in the past, using mozilla-browser
only, and not caring about the composer or the mail client. Some other
do only use the composer and might want to install only it (though these
ones would be better using nvu, but composer is going to be somehow
resurrected)

I still insists on all the things I said before my vacation, about the
patches and all. Please do consider all that, and/or comment
http://people.debian.org/~glandium/seamonkey-patches/README

Now, some comments on Hendrik-Jan messages:

Don't ship the libraries in /usr/lib. Ship them in /usr/lib/seamonkey
like firefox does. You can put them in a common package on which all the
seamonkey packages will depend, if you will.

Please consider using the system myspell libraries. I have a patch for
that, that is already applied to firefox 2.0b2 in experimental.

> - transition/dummy package (how do I do this?)

The only solution is to make these transition packages from the mozilla
source package, because they have an epoch.

Cheers

Mike
