You can generate the transition packages from seamonkey just fine --
you can override the version used in the binary package from
debian/rules -- they do not need to match the source version (though
it's the default and deviating should be done with care). See
gcc-defaults for a well known example.

But having a seperate source package for the dummy packages is possible
too, it's mostly a matter of taste.

Bug#296037: ITP: magic-smtpd -- Replacement for qmail-smtpd with user checking support

2006-09-22 Thread Ryan Finnie

retitle 296037 ITP: magic-smtpd -- Replacement for qmail-smtpd with
user checking support
thanks

Earlier this year I built a quick-and-dirty magic-smtpd package for my
employer. The packaging itself is pretty easy, but I see two problems
ahead:

1) The license[0], while they call it "opensource", is long-winded,
not reviewed by the OSI, and not in use by any other Debian packages.
I will probably have to take this up with debian-legal.
2) While it is easy for the package to divert the original
/usr/sbin/qmail-smtpd binary out of the way, technically the "qmail"
package doesn't exist in Debian (since it's non-free, can't be
distributed modified, and is built by the qmail-src package). I'm not
sure how the incoming system would handle a binary package Requiring a
non-existant package.

Thanks,
Ryan Finnie

Hi,

The developer sent me the 0.10 release yesterday, so I have polished off
the package to have something usable hopefully.

I have placed packages (source and _all) at

  http://jameswestby.net/debian/

package bazaar-webserve. You want version 0.10-1.

Arnaud is now co-maintainer, and he hasn't given me the thumbs up on the
package yet, so it might change a little before upload, but hopefully
not too much.

I would appreciate it if you could try the package and let me know if
you find any problems. I would also like to know if there is enough
documentation, whether the configuration snippets are good enough, and
whether your use case is catered for. If not then I can try and modify
the package to support it.

Thanks,

James

This package provides example database and file to ease the beginning
with the TYPO3 content management system. It contains TYPO3's core
files and a database file with an example pagetree. To start from
scratch the empty database from the package typo3-dummy could be
used. Another example is provided by typo3-testsite package. All
the TYPO3 packages can be installed and used side by side.
 .
TYPO3 is a Web content management system which features automatic
creation of navigational menus, headlines, and other dynamic
graphical elements, automatic conversion and scaling of images, the
ability to present different templates based on variables such as
client browser or country code, support for multiple templates on a
 site, and a built-in password-protection option.
 .
Pages can be timed to be shown on a certain date, be hidden on a
certain date or just temporarily hidden. TYPO3 supports search in
SQL-databases and redesigning of a website at once is just a matter
of creating a single new template.

Anything special I should take care of?

As far as I can see, it's up to date and #275649 and #354395 are easy to
fix. Beside that... well, there's #330089 which should be reported
upstram... and #298485 is quite old and might have been a problem of sdl
or something so one would ping the submitter. Oh, and #295130, which I

So, your package isn't in a bad shape (which is of course good :) But I

Bug#388802: ITP: tmispell-voikko -- Ispell wrapper which uses Voikko for spell-checking

  Programming Lang: C++
Description : Ispell wrapper which uses Voikko for spell-checking

Voikko is a Finnish spell-checker and hyphenator based on Malaga and
Suomi-Malaga.

Tmispell is an Ispell wrapper that provides an Ispell-like interface for
other programs that need spelling checker. Many programs (e.g. mail
clients, text editors, and word processors) use Ispell for
spell-checking. This package makes it possible for such programs to use
Voikko for Finnish spell-checking.

This package will set up Tmispell so that the command "ispell" actually
starts "tmispell". The real Ispell will be launched only if Tmispell
does not support the selected language.

Package: wnpp

This is a little app which displays network activity in an icon in KDE's
system tray, which lets you know if something is taking a long time to
transmit or the connection just hung.

* Package name: knetworkled
  Version : 0.5.1
  Upstream Author : Brent Kelly <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.glitch13.com/knetworkled.php
* License : LGPL
Description : Network activity monitor for KDE systray

Current Features:
Docks into KDE system tray.
Has a configuration dialog from which you can select what network device to
monitor (out of the ones you have available) and how often you want to poll
that device for activity (100ms to 1000ms).
Tooltip popup when mouseovering the systemtray icon that displays what
device is being monitored and how many TX/RX packets have been
transmitted/recieved.

Known bugs:
It doesn't get the correct RT/TX values from /proc/net/dev because the
columns for the numbers are different than the the title columns for a
couple people people I've seen (don't know why their dev file is screwy).
Its possible that it's the same for people with kernels other than 2.4.x or
2.6.x. If yours is different and you know what columns are what, the columns
the program uses are simple defines that you can change before compiling.
There's no install rule for the makefile.
I'd like it to detach from the console or whatever its run from, this is
probably easy, but like I said, I'm a neophyte at this stuff.
I'm sure there's a few more...

Bug#388803: ITP: oo2-voikko -- Oo2-voikko, a Finnish spell-checker and hyphenation for OpenOffice.org

2006-09-22 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: oo2-voikko
  Version : 1.1
  Upstream Author : Harri Pitkänen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.hunspell-fi.org/

  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Oo2-voikko, a Finnish spell-checker and hyphenation
for OpenOffice.org

OpenOffice.org is a full-featured office productivity suite that
provides a near drop-in replacement for Microsoft(R) Office.

This package contains Oo2-voikko, a Finnish spell-checking and
hyphenation component for OpenOffice.org.

NOTE: Usually spell-checking and hyphenation should be automatically
activated after installing this package. If this is not the case, go to
"Writing Aids" settings in OpenOffice.org and activate Voikko components
manually. See file /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-voikko/README.Debian
for more information about using this package.

Yes, that's what the acronym "RFP" means: Request for package.

If you are interested in packaging your software yourself, you might
find our new maintainers guide [1] and the debian-mentors list
interesting.

Package: gtkpool
Version: 0.5.0-5
Severity: serious

Hi,

During the Debian QA meeting hold during Sept. 09th till 11th, we begun
to go through the list of the oldest packages in Debian that are not in
testing (http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/oldest.html) to search for packages
that should be either orphaned or removed completly from Debian
(unstable and testing) since they have been obviously neglected by their
maintainer.

Your package did show up on this list and we propose to orphan it. There
are not very many users and there are plenty of alternatives
available. It's still using Gtk+ 1.x, which is planned to be removed
before we release etch.

This usually means that your package matched some of the following
criteria:

[1] Your packages has not had an upload for more than two years

[2] has one or more RC bugs with no answer from the maintainer (**)

[3] the state of your packages in general seems to indicate that you
 might be MIA

[4] (if we propose a removal) it shows in popcon as having less than
100 users with the package installed.

[5] the package was not released with sarge

and at least ([1] and ( [2] or [3] or [4] or [5] )) was true.

(**) The maintainer not answering to RC bugs refers to bugs filed
more than one month before the time the check was performed.

After 7 days without answer from you (the maintainer) we will reassign
this bug to either WNPP (in case we propose to orphan it) or
ftp.debian.org (in case we propose to remove it).

The package will need an upload or an explanation for this action not to
proceed.

Please do *not* upload a package just to get off this list - it won't
help the package at all. Maintainers should be responsive and feel
responsible for their packages without needing other people to force
them to do work. Sometimes, finding a new maintainer or even removing
the package completly from the archive is better for Debian's users.

Thanks!

Marc

Hello,

I'd like somebody else to take over maintenance of the ncmpc package,
since I don't use this program anymore.

The package is in good shape, has no open bugs. The last upstream
version has been released more than a year ago, the current version in
the archive is a good working SVN snapshot for UTF-8 and IPv6 support.

The upstream author is not very fast in reacting to bugreports and
patches, the new maintainer should be prepared to fix one or another
upstream bug for himself.

The package description is:
ncmpc is a text based client for MPD, the Music Player Daemon.
It is inspired by cplay and features a file browser, a playlist
browser and editor as well as a search screen.
 .
It inherits features like showing information for MP3 and Ogg files
(among others) from MPD and also makes use of its random and repeated
 playback modes.

Yes, that's definitely right, I have not found any time for Debian work for
quite some time... Moreover I have never really been the best person for this
specific package. Having learned (some) Russian in school I simply wanted to
make sure that it would not get lost when it was orphaned as I use it myself
once in a while (and are always impressed by its size!).

No, not at all, please go ahead! I'm glad that you want to take it over and
perhaps should have given it up for adoption earlier... (I severely suffer
from the syndrom of being convinced or at least hoping that after having done
hundreds of other things I'd at some point in time get to doing "this thing"
as well... a point in time that for the majority of things never comes
though...)

Thanks,
Yven
