Bug#399818: ITP: liblogger-syslog-perl -- a simple wrapper over Syslog for Perl

  Version : 1.0
  Upstream Author : Alexis Sukrieh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/~sukria/Logger-Syslog-1.0/lib/Logger/Syslog.pm
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Logger::Syslog -- a simple wrapper over Syslog for Perl

You want to deal with syslog, but you don't want to bother with Sys::Syslog,
that module is for you.

Logger::Syslog takes care of everything regarding the Syslog communication, all
you have to do is to use the function you need to send a message to syslog.

Logger::Syslog provides one function per Syslog message level: debug, info,
warning, error, notice, critic, alert.

Logger::Syslog is compliant with mod_perl, all you have to do when using it in
such an environement is to call logger_init() at the beginning of your CGI,
that will garantee that everything will run smoothly (otherwise, issues with
the syslog socket can happen in mod_perl env).

Bug#399756: RFP: wordpress-mu -- framework for hosting large numbers of wordpress weblogs

2006-11-22 Thread Matthew Carroll
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 Could you care to list the number of features of wordpress mu that
 make it quite distinct?

Sure :-)

When it comes to the actual blogging, it is basically the same software.
What MU offers is more architectural - it is specifically designed for
hosting operations who want to run lots of blogs on the same instance:

1. It streamlines the process for adding new blogs to an install. No
server-side access is required, since new blogs are added to the same
database (as a new set of tables).

2. Consequently, it is possible to allow end-users to create their own
blog as a subdomain, e.g., myblog.example.com, or subdirectory
example.com/myblog, with pre-defined settings, using a simple sign-up
form. This makes it possible to scale to thousands of blogs, with almost
no effort to the server administrator beyond initially configuring
wordpress MU.

3. It allows for better separation between different blogs being hosted
on the same server - you can choose which themes are available to each
blog, have default sets of themes users can choose between, etc.

There's more no doubt, but I only just started playing with Wordpress MU
and my first thought was this looks great, there should be a .deb :-)

Thanks
Matthew

Bug#399958: ITP: tclap -- Templated command-line argument parser

2006-11-22 Thread Dirk Eddelbuettel

Package: wnpp
Owner: Dirk Eddelbuettel [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libtclap-dev
  Version : 1.1-0
  Upstream Author : Mike Smoot [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL or Web page : http://tclap.sourceforge.net/
* License : BSD (see below)
  Description : Templated command-line argument parser

This package provides a simple C++ library that facilitates parsing
command-line arguments in a type-independent manner. The functionality is
provided via template header files, so no actual library is included.

I started using tclap to provide simple, elegant and featureful command-line
parsing routines for my C++ programs. The packages is pretty well documented,
has numerous examples and a large number of unit tests (and I include
examples and tests in the .deb).

A draft package is at http://dirk.eddelbuettel.com/code/tmp/

Comments and suggestions are welcome (and please CC me as I'm no longer on
debian-devel). We do have a few similar packages, but nothing had quite this
feature set.

Regards, Dirk

Bug#167464: Intent to package libvorbisidec (aka tremor) -- useful for FPU-less arm processors

2006-11-22 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
reopen 167464
retitle 167464 ITP: libvorbisidec - Integer-only Ogg Vorbis decoder, AKA
tremor
thanks

I would like to maintain libvorbisidec, the integer-math-only Ogg
Vorbis decoder, also known as tremor. it is useful for my debian
NSLU2 (igor), an arm-based device without a FPU. If i've goofed,
and it's already packaged for debian, please let me know!

Because i'm not a full-fledged DD, i'll need a sponsor for this
package to make it into debian.

Note that i prefer the package name libvorbisidec (which is the name
of the library itself) over its codename tremor. Also, i'm choosing
to package the mainline trunk insted of the low-memory branch.

I'm currently pulling the tremor codebase out of upstream svn
(http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/Tremor), which contains a weird debian/
directory (it appears to be a vestigial copy of some other package).
I've replaced that entirely with a relatively clean one created via
dh_make.

If you are interested, you can see some initial example packages at:

 http://lair.fifthhorseman.net/~dkg/src/tremor/

In the same directory is a version of the cmus ncurses-based music
player which has been rebuilt to use libvorbisidec instead of
libvorbis (thanks to Felipe Sateler for pointing out that this package
has a simple config option to use libvorbisidec).

I've used cmus together with libvorbisidec on igor to play back ogg
vorbis files in real time (with 50% idle CPU, comparable to libmad0
playback of mp3's). The ogg files were completely unplayable when
cmus was compiled against the floating-point libvorbis.

Here's my revised ITP block for this package:

* Package name: libvorbisidec
  Version : 1.0.2-svn12137
  Upstream Author : Monty [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://xiph.org/vorbis/
* License : BSD-style
  Description : Integer-only Ogg Vorbis decoder, AKA tremor

libvorbisidec is an Ogg Vorbis audio decoder implemented with no
floating point arithmetic. This makes it particularly amenable to use
on systems which lack floating point hardware.

If anyone has any suggestions for things i should do differently with
the package, or is willing to sponsor it, please let me know.

Thanks,

--dkg
