Bug#407072: ITP: zzuf -- transparent application input fuzzer

2007-01-15 Thread Sam Hocevar (Debian packages)
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: "Sam Hocevar (Debian packages)" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: zzuf
  Version : 0.5
  Upstream Author : Sam Hocevar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://sam.zoy.org/zzuf/
* License : WTFPL (BSD-like)
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : transparent application input fuzzer

 Zzuf is a transparent fuzzer. It works by intercepting applications' file
 and network operations and changing random bits in their input. Its behaviour
 is deterministic, making it easy to reproduce bugs.
 .
 Zzuf has support for variable fuzzing ratio, character filtering, fuzzing
 decision based on filenames and optional network fuzzing. It can also stop
 processes that run for too long or that output too much data.

 For those interested, zzuf packages are already available here:

 DiskSearch is a tool for searching for files on all your removable
 media disks (e.g. CD's, ZIP disks or backup tapes). For instance you
 can search for songs on your MP3-CD's or for a document on your backup
 DVD's.
 .
 For advanced queries there is a regular expression search mode.
 .
 The search is based on a simple database file which needs to be filled
 once by adding all your disks to it.

Bug#407068: ITP: libpam-rsa -- PAM module for local authentication with RSA keypairs

2007-01-15 Thread José Parrella
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libpam-rsa
* Version : 0.8-9
* Upstream Author : Vesa-Matti Kari <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.helsinki.fi/~vmkari/pamrsa/
* License : LGPL
* Description : (follows)

The libpam-rsa PAM module is for local PAM authentication with RSA
keypairs. pam_rsa will look for user-associated public RSA keys in the
local system and will encrypt a message using the user's public RSA key.
Then it will look for a private key in a portable media like a USB
memory stick and will try to decode the message. This implements a poor
man's smartcard-like functionality.

End of description. My work on this package has already begun (I have a
working, non-Policy compliant package). I've been using this module for
a while in my own laptop (no problems, well integrated code), and as
soon as I solve Linda/Lintian warnings I'll contact an sponsor.

As always, any help and comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank you,
WNPP-people.

Jose

Note: I'm aware of the hyphen in the version number.

Just don't hope too much from the team, we've not been doing much as a
team. I just have enough time to package new upstream versions but not
much more. :)

I don't run Debian on a day-to-day basis and wouldn't like Debian users
to think that I'd take care of the package they use.

But as I said, I'm still perfectly happy to work together with somebody
on the Debian end to make sure everything's alright.

Bug#407051: ITP: turboentity -- high-level declarative layer for SQLAlchemy

* Package name: turboentity
  Version : 0.1.0

* URL : http://turboentity.ematia.de/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : high-level declarative layer for SQLAlchemy

 SQLAlchemy provides a very nice API to deal with relational databases
 in an abstract and pythonic way. TurboEntity is an object-relational
 mapping framework for SQLAlchemy which helps the developer by
 automatically creating most of the structure based on a simple class.

 Features currently include:
* automatic polymorphic inheritance
* easy specification of relationships
* automatic creation of primary keys
* automatic creation of foreign keys
* automatic creation of secondary tables
* relations can be specified across modules

NOTE: the author is currently discussing with the ActiveMapper[0] author
how both projects could be merged into one, so turboentity can end up
living a very short time as a standalone project; thus, I'm only going
to package it in experimental, for now

It makes it easier if the people who are maintaining it in Ubuntu directly do

Of course if you do not have the time to do that here I can understand it.

Thanks for your mail, and your remarks. I have indeed looked at the
software deployment part, it /seems/ to be better now (I must admit I
haven't tested it in a production environment) since the client and
the server must have a trust relation (it uses a PKI, or a self signed
certificate). I fully agree that this feature must be disabled by
default if not fully secure, this point is quite important.

I've downloaded your packages, thanks a lot. Version 1.0rc3 has lots
of important changes since 1.0rc2 (in particular, for the
installation), I believe most of your points are addressed, or will be
in the next stable release.

If you are still interested in the packaging, I would see no problem
in co-maintaining the packages (I plan to package the server as soon
as the client packages are ready).

Regards,
Pierre

Last time I looked at this software, I was very disappointed by the
security on the last part : the agent was downloading and installing
new software without any verification (signature, ...).
  As my lab would like to try this tool, I made a debian package.
I try to disable this remote deployment facility (as we did not want
to use it) and let only the configuration and software report part.
Even that was not secured at all !
  So, we use it for non laptop computer inside our lab (behind a
firewall), but not on our laptops that can be connected in hostile
environments.
  As I did not look at this software for several months, it is
possible that some of my criticisms are wrong (and I would be very
happy in this case).

  So, I hope you will address these issues if you create a official
debian package. If you want, you are free to use the packaging I did
for the 1.0-RC2-FINAL release :
http://people.debian.org/~vdanjean/debian/pool/main/o/ocsinventory-client/

I saw that the package is already in ubuntu and I got some feedback from

You can follow these guidelines[0] if you are unsure about debian procedures.

It would be cool if you could maintain this package within the
"pkg-sql-ledger" team. Since ledger-smb derives from sql-ledger
the package needs to offer a nice way to take over sql-ledger's data.

I'll gladly add you to the team if you accept. Packaging ledger-smb is on
my TODO list for quite some time and I'll happily review your work.

Also Seneca Cunningham <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> started packaging ledger-smb, he
gave an URL at one time but it doesn't work anymore. Seneca, maybe you can
provide your first package to Michael ?
