Bug#411209: ITP: libwiimote -- Simple Wiimote Library for Linux
Hi Romain, From: Romain Beauxis Subject: Bug#411209: ITP: libwiimote -- Simple Wiimote Library for Linux Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2007 18:08:34 +0100 * Package name : libwiimote Version : 0.3 Upstream Author : Joel Andersson bja at kth.se Chad Phillips chad at chadphillips.org * URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/libwiimote/ * License : GPL Description : Simple Wiimote Library for Linux Libwiimote is a simple C library for communicating with the Nintendo Wii Remote on a Linux system. Even though the API strives to be minimal, it provides complete control over most features of the wiimote and nunchuk controllers. Please, use the name libcwiimote as changed upstream. This avoid any colision with libwiimote as provided by cwiid that I am actually packaging... Hmm, I see... I've found a discussion in the libwiimote project, which seems to be begun by you :-) : http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1654089forum_id=652223 Of course, I'll avoid the conflict for the binary package names and library names (soname), while I think it's better to keep the source package name as libwiimote since it is used as the project name and the software name. Since your cwiid package is now in the NEW queue, I cannot see any information about the package, except for the source package name. If possible, could you please give me information on something that can conflict, such as binary package names and the library name (soname)? Thanks, -nori

On Thu, 15 Feb 2007, Jason Spiro wrote: Sami, would the Artistic License 2.0 be OK? ( http://www.perlfoundation.org/legal/licenses/artistic-2_0.html ) It states that when the package is redistributed, one can charge a distribution fee, but not a license fee. This prevents a record companies from selling the CD. However, the music could still be freely redistributed noncommercially, even if separated from the game. We'll contact Teosto and see which license would be okay with them. Tommi had the objection that the Artistic License is a bit too software-centric, altough I don't know if there are any well known licenses written specifically for music. The tutorial is still a bit of a grey area (is it a song?), but GPL is okay for the other data files. Is it a song? It doesn't seem to fit the dictionary definition of song to me. IIRC, isn't it just a prepared speech with musical interludes at various points? We agreed that the tutorial can also be included with the other data files as GPL. I doubt anyone will regard it as a song by itself. - Sami -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2007/2/18, Sami Kyostila [EMAIL PROTECTED]: We'll contact Teosto and see which license would be okay with them. Tommi had the objection that the Artistic License is a bit too software-centric, altough I don't know if there are any well known licenses written specifically for music. There aren't any such licenses. Even the Creative Commons licenses aren't written specifically for music. They were written with music in mind, which is nice, but unfortunately they are not Debian-Free. The GPL works fine for distribution of music[1]. Since the game is GPLed, the GPL would be the ideal license to use for the music as well :-), but another suitable license would also be fine. Cheers, Jason [1] See http://www.nabble.com/Preferred-licences-for-audio-data-t3154709.html . They also mention you could provide extra permissions for recording the music (I guess youtube would like that) and performance, but I don't think there's really a need to. -- Jason Spiro: computer consulting with a smile.
