Bug#411454: ITP: pfstmo -- set of tone mapping operators

2007-02-19 Thread Sebastian Harl
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Sebastian Harl [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: pfstmo
Upstream Author : Grzegorz Krawczyk [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.mpi-inf.mpg.de/resources/tmo/
* License : GPL
Description : set of tone mapping operators

pfstmo package contains the implementation of state-of-the-art tone mapping
operators. The motivation here is to provide an implementation of tone mapping
operators suitable for convenient processing of both static images and
 animations.

The operators are embedded in a flexible framework [pfstools] which provides a
unified input/output mechanism and a modular architecture for the filtering of
the image data. Various file formats for static images and video are
transparently supported and the High Dynamic Range data are processed
modularly through a Unix piping mechanism.

The long description has been copied from the homepage and will probably be
improved before upload.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Description : two player board game for GPE

Go is played by alternately placing black and white stones on the
vacant intersections of a 19x19 rectilinear grid. A stone or a group of
stones is captured and removed if it is tightly surrounded by stones of
the opposing colour. The objective is to control a larger territory than
the opponent by placing one's stones so they cannot be captured. The
game ends and the score is counted when both players consecutively pass
on a turn, indicating that neither side can increase its territory or
reduce its opponent's; the game can also end by resignation.

Meta Tracker is a powerful desktop-neutral first class object database,
tag/metadata database, search tool and indexer.
Meta Tracker is also extremely fast and super efficient with your systems
memory when compared with some other competing frameworks.
It consists of a common object database that allows entities to have an
almost infinte number of properties, metadata (both embedded/harvested as
well as user definable), a comprehensive database of keywords/tags and
links to other entities.
It provides additional features for file based objects including context
linking and audit trails for a file object.
It has the ability to index, store, harvest metadata. retrieve and search
all types of files and other first class objects.
First class object support includes: Files, Documents, Music, Images,
Videos.

Meta Tracker is the most powerful open source metadata database and
indexer framework currently available and because it is built around a
combination indexer and sql database and not a dedicated indexer it has
much more powerful use cases:

* Provide search and indexing facilities similiar to those on other
systems
* Common database storage for all first class objects (EG a common
music/photo/contacts/email/bookmarks/history database) complete with
additional metadata and tags/keywords
* Comprehensive one stop solution for all applications needing an
object database, powerful search (via RDF Query), first class methods,
related metadata and user definable metadata/tags

* Can provide a full semantic desktop with metadata everywhere
* Can provide powerful criteria based searching suitable for creating
smart file dialogs and vfolder systems

* Can provide a more intelligent desktop using statistical metadata

The software is licensed under the GPLv2.

Description : Clustering network filesystem for Linux

Lustre is a high-performance network filesystem. Its
object-based design allows massive scalability and flexibility, with
storage being split across many thousands of machines (OSTs). By
splitting apart metadata servers (MDSs) from storage servers (OSTs),
Lustre can support very high I/O throughput.

The software is licensed under the GPLv2.

there are very few free dictionary concerning chinese, either en2cn or cn2en.

Description : Les Houches Accord PDF Interface
This provides a unified and easy to use interface to modern PDF sets. It is
designed to work not only with individual PDF sets but also with the more recent
multiple error sets. It can be viewed as the successor to PDFLIB, incorporating
many of the older sets found in the latter, including pion and photon PDFs. In
LHAPDF the computer code and input parameters/grids are separated thus allowing
more easy updating and no limit to the expansion possibilities. The code and data
sets can be downloaded together or inidivually as desired. From version 4.1
onwards a configuration script facilitates the installation of LHAPDF.

Bug#411508: Needs newer system-tools-backends-dev

2007-02-19 Thread Loïc Minier
This package is ready in pkg-gnome but needs an update of
system-tools-backends-dev to something = 2.1.2. We currently have
 1.4.2.

The 2.1 STB is a complete rewrite and belongs to GNOME 2.17. It will
 require a lot of work.

As soon as STB is ready, we can upload liboobs.

pfstmo package contains the implementation of state-of-the-art tone mapping

 mapping
operators suitable for convenient processing of both static images and

The operators are embedded in a flexible framework [pfstools] which provides
 a
unified input/output mechanism and a modular architecture for the filtering
 of
the image data. Various file formats for static images and video are
transparently supported and the High Dynamic Range data are processed
modularly through a Unix piping mechanism.

The long description has been copied from the homepage and will probably be
 improved before upload.

Hi Sebastion,

I gather this is something to do with image/video processing. Could you
mention this in the short description or at least the first paragraph of
the long?

I admit that I had absolutely no idea what the context was until the
last sentence. Even having realized that I have no idea whether I would
want to try the package...

Bug#411591: RFA: devscripts -- Scripts to make the life of a Debian Package maintainer easier

2007-02-19 Thread Julian Gilbey
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the devscripts package. I have had very
little time over recent months (years, even), and this package really
demands far more active maintenance than I am able to give it.

There are generally relatively few bugs but lots and lots of wishlist
requests. With the prominence of the package, it is really important
that whoever takes it on is willing to do a significant amount of new
coding in bash and Perl, the two main languages used in the package.

If you are interested, please check out the BTS page
(http://bugs.debian.org/devscripts) to get some idea of the number and
range of current requests for features: some of these are quick, some
would require some major (re)coding.

The package is currently developed via an SVN repository on alioth,
and consists of numerous mostly-unrelated scripts, so could be easily
be managed by a small group of maintainers.

Thanks in advance!

   Julian

And in case you don't know already, the package description currently
reads:

Contains the following scripts, dependencies/recommendations shown in
 brackets afterwards:
 .
  - annotate-output: run a command and prepend time and stream (O for stdout,
E for stderr) for every line of output
  - archpath: print tla/Bazaar package names [tla | bazaar]

  - debpkg: dpkg wrapper to be able to manage/test packages without su
  - debrelease: wrapper around dupload or dput [dupload | dput, ssh]
  - debsign, debrsign: sign a .changes/.dsc pair without needing any of
the rest of the package to be present; can sign the pair remotely
or fetch the pair from a remote machine for signing [gnupg,
debian-keyring, ssh]
  - debuild: wrapper to build a package without having to su or worry
about how to invoke dpkg to build using fakeroot. Also deals

I'm still interested in mythtv being packaged inside Debian. Beyond the
mentioned mp3 issue, I'm not sure what else is keeping the package out.
I'm ccing Christian Marillat, Matt Zimmerman and the Alioth mythtv package
list to get more comments about this.

This is not possible because mythtv need to depends on liblame. I
think you can close this RFP.

How close is this dependency? Is it possible to switch the decoding to
something else? Or how about just have parts of MythTV that don't
require mp3encoding?

Personally, I have alternate means of recording content that I would
like to be able to use the commercial skip stuff on. There's other
MythTV features unrelated to encoding and decoding too that may be worth
packaging for Debian. Not having touched much of the source, I can't say
how easy it would be to split up.

Also Matt Zimmerman mentioned there might be licensing issues?
