Well, guess I am to blame for this confusion: Didn't find Marc-André's package initially, so I started independently. I don't understand exactly why you're sending me a diff where Mathias Hasselmann is the maintainer. Seems Marc-André likes the compact CDBS approach I found by accident. ;-) Marc-André, Mathias: who is going to maintain the package for Debian? I am very interested in getting that package into Debian (and Ubunutu). So I am interested in keeping that package up-to-date. On the other hand I don't have much knowledge about Debian package maintenance and I also do not want to dive too deeply into this matter. So I am pretty fine, if we both are listed as maintainer, but I'll also will not hide, when Marc-André wants to focus on other things but the vala package. Just need someone who tolds me, when I do not meet Debians packaging standards. Marc-André or Mathias, I will need to know where you downloaded Mathias' packaging from and/or under which license the packaging by Mathias is. My packaging variant should be found within this ticket. License? Didn't expect I'd have to declare some license terms for stuff like packaging. Expected packaging to happen under the same license as the packaged application -- LGPL-2.1 in the case of Vala. Oh, after reading the Marc-André's initial diff I see my mistakes. Seems like Unbuntu is more lax regarding content of the copyright file. Marc-André, there are plenty of problems with the second diff you sent me and we're going backwards since my last review: the ITP isn't closed by your changelog, you're not listed as maintainer, the copyright is incomplete (it doesn't have the license block), config.guess and .sub are not updated automatically anymore, there are missing build-dependencies, etc. Marc-André is not to blame for those regressions. It was me who didn't pay enough attention to detail for the reason of not understanding them all. Config.guess and .sub are not updated anymore, as I removed simple-patchsys.mk, which merges buildcore.mk from my rules file. Going to update the diff right now. Bug#398198: Last update on pkg
Hi, On Sun, Apr 01, 2007, Mathias Hasselmann wrote: Marc-André, Mathias: who is going to maintain the package for Debian? I am very interested in getting that package into Debian (and Ubunutu). So I am pretty fine, if we both are listed as maintainer, but I'll also will not hide, when Marc-André wants to focus on other things but the vala package. Just need someone who tolds me, when I do not meet Debians packaging standards. Debian and Ubuntu packaging are pretty close, but I think that, as you noted, Debian has higher standards for some things like the copyright file; beside, as a sponsor I have to enforce higher than average standards to new maintainers. The real question is whether you, Mathias, accept responsability for bugs in the Debian distributions or not. You can be listed as Maintainer or Uploader in Debian, but only if this means that you can be contacted for bugs in Debian and if you accept responsability to fix RC bugs timely (or to call for help). I hope I don't sound too official, I wanted to make it clear what should draw the line of who gets listed in the control file in Debian. So, Mathias: are you interested in being listed as a Maintainer or Uploader? I would certainly value your participation in the Debian packaging as I've seen you contributed some patches to vala upstream. :) Perhaps this is the occasion for you to work directly in Debian; as I understand it, every upload in Debian can be merged in Ubuntu semi-automatically. Who knows what charms you'll discover in Debian! Not everybody does declare a license on the packaging. I think it's legitimate to claim copyright and licensing given the amount of time some packages need, but I rarely claim these myself. However, as some persons do, and because the new dh_make templates encourage this, I must double-check the licensing of anything used to create Debian packages, such as your packaging here. Seems like Unbuntu is more lax regarding content of the copyright file. Yes; I had to redo the copyright in all packages I grabbed from Ubuntu until now due to these double standards. The Debian standards are truly enforced by our ftpmasters. You can learn more in the NEW FAQ: http://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html which points at: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html Config.guess and .sub are not updated anymore, as I removed simple-patchsys.mk, which merges buildcore.mk from my rules file. debhelper.mk will pull buildcore.mk as well; but you need to build-dep on autotools-dev for config.guess and config.sub to be present in the build environment, otherwise cdbs' buildcore can't update these. Bye, PS: please send me packages as URLs to a .dsc which I can dget or attach both the .dsc and the .diff.gz; it's far safer. -- Loïc Minier
Bug#415955: please support GRUB Invaders in 'update-grub'
package: grub severity: wishlist tags: patch Dear GRUB-Maintainers! Please add support for the GRUB Invaders game to the 'update-grub' script. GRUB Invaders is a very small (~4kB) multiboot compliant Space Invaders clone which runs directly on a computer (i386), without an operating system. It is meant to be started with the GRUB bootloader for PCs [0,1]. The game is not *yet* in Debian [2] but is still waiting in the NEW queue [3]. If you want to have a look at the package or want to try out the game please have a look at mentors.debian.net [4]. Salut, Loic, sorry for the mess, I was also a bit confused. Things are getting clear now. And to state things better, I am perfectly happy if Mathias can have the maintainership of the package. I will keep an eye on what's going on, because it is very instructive for me too. I am probably as new as Mathias in this world:) The last diff proposed solve some of the remaining issues. Still to do: Add something like this in the changelog * Diff accepted (Closes: #398198) Add flex and pkg-config in build-dep. Thank you guys! I don't care whether you want to be in Uploaders _or_ Maintainer, but only whether you want to take responsability or not. :) Guys, if you want to work together on the package, I suggest we start importing it now in the Alioth collab-maint SVN. We can then all subscribe to commits, uploads, and bugs individually. Please let me know if it's ok for you to maintain the debian/ in SVN on Alioth with the help of svn-buildpackage, and give me your Alioth login so that I can request your addition to the collab-maint project as external maintainers. -- Loïc Minier

To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] RFP: PtolemyII -- Heterogeneous Modeling and Design in Java Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Upstream Author : Prof. Edward A. Lee [EMAIL PROTECTED] URL: http://ptolemy.berkeley.edu/ptolemyII/ License : UC Berkeley copyright Programming Lang : Java Description: Heterogeneous Modeling and Desing in Java Ptolemy II is a software framework developed as part of the Ptolemy project. It is a Java-based component assembly framework with a graphical user interface called Vergil. Vergil itself is a component assembly defined in Ptolemy II. The Ptolemy project studies modeling, simulation, and design of concurrent, real-time, embedded systems. The focus is on assembly of concurrent components. The key underlying principle in the project is the use of well-defined models of computation that govern the interactions between components. A major problem area being addressed is the use of heterogeneous mixtures of models of computation. The Ptolemy Project (http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu) contains much more information about the project. The work is conducted in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences of the University of California at Berkeley. The project is directed by Prof. Edward A. Lee (http://ptolemy.eecs.berkeley.edu/~eal) The project is named after Claudius Ptolemaeus, the second century Greek astronomer, mathematician, and geographer. Ptolemy II is free for academic and commercial use. I checked the delta between your 0.0.8-2 and 0.0.8-3 diffs; the pre-build:: update-config is useless, as I said cdbs will update config.guess and config.sub automatically by default. The copyright file is now good (even better than before), but the control file is lacking build-deps. I'd prefer that you import stuff in SVN so that I can comment on a version everybody agrees upon as the reference version. :) -- Loïc Minier

Bug#366806: WNPP bug retitle
retitle 366806 O: bcm5700-source -- module source for Broadcom's bcm5700 ethernet driver noowner 366806 stop Hello, This is an automatic mail sent to retitle the ITA you have reported or are involved with. Your ITA wnpp bug is being orphaned because of the following reasons: - It is, as of today, older than 250 days. - It hasn't had any activity recently. As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something wrong and probably it would be managing some bugs that are not intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be orphaned, for example if the ITA is still of your interest, or there has been some kind of activity around it. In that case, please retitle the bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of mass closing and not let people know that they can easily recover their bugs ;-). To retitle it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a body text like this: retitle 366806 ITA: bcm5700-source -- module source for Broadcom's bcm5700 ethernet driver owner 366806 ! stop Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED] would be truly welcomed. Anyway, if you have any kind of problems when dealing with the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help you on this: [EMAIL PROTECTED]. A similar process is being applied to other kind of wnpp bugs. Thanks for your cooperation, -- David Moreno Garza [EMAIL PROTECTED]. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My current working copy has the following description field: Description: Analysis program for creating a colorful visual representation of an audio file The Moodbar is an algorithm for creating a colorful visual representation of the contents of an audio file, giving an idea of its mood (this is a rather fanciful term for the simple analysis it actually does). Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Erich Schubert [EMAIL PROTECTED] * Package name: stereo Version : 2.0 beta * URL : http://www.mono-project.com/Stereo * License : LGPL Programming Lang: C# Description : Mono (.NET) extension for running multiple applications Stereo is an extension to the Mono (.NET/C#) platform for running multiple applications at the same time. As you probably know, C# is a language using a bytecode, called CIL: Common Intermediate Language. Using code in an intermediate language has benefits for platform and operating system independence (Java is the most prominent example of this approach), however it also means an overhead when running the applications. Various approaches have been tried to remedy these effects, such as JIT (just in time) compilers translating the bytecode to native code when needed. Applications running based on such bytecodes tend to use more memory than regular applications (for example, they need to keep the compiled code in writeable memory, whereas regular applications can use shared read-only memory for this), and you probably have heard many people complain about the memory usage of Java and .Net applications. Some people even claim the Linux .NET platform is called Mono because you can run at most one such application at the same time. That how stereo was born: an extensions to run two (or more) applications in the same mono environment, thus reducing the memory overhead significantly, and making it useful for more people. Future versions should even be able to run Python (using IronPython) and eventually Java applications in the stereo runtime. It is also planned to add support for multiple user operation. So eventually, it will be able to replace your whole system. The project will then also change it's name to Multics, to reflect it's unique multi-user capabilities. At least if we get enough funding by Dunc-Tank, who is currently sponsoring all our development efforts. ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Using the deprecated way of closing this intentionally. There has been considerable research done on this principle since that publication, and Gnaural's predecessor, WinAural, has even been used as the audio stimulus in a study published in the proceedings of Biomedical Engineering 2004, The Induced Rhythmic Oscillations of Neural Activity in the Human Brain, D. Cvetkovic, D. Djuwari, I. Cosic (Australia), From Proceeding (417) Biomedical Engineering - 2004. . The central idea of the Binaural Beat principle is that brain activity can be entrained to the auditory beat frequencies created when each ear is presented simultaneously with tones of slightly-differing frequency. It has been proposed that entrainment can be used to target specific mental states, ranging from restful and meditative to highly alert. . Gnaural can output directly to your computer's soundsystem, or to an audio file (.WAV format), which you can then burn to an audio CD or compress to MP3 to make available for portable use. Stereo headphones are required to maintain the stereo separation of the tones needed for your auditory system to create the binaural beats. . In that case, please reopen the bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen their bugs ;-).
