Bug#421513: sphpblog License-Question (modified/expanded GPL)

2007-05-17 Thread Cord Beermann
Hallo! Du (Ben Finney) hast geschrieben:

Cord Beermann [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

I want to add a package to Debian with the following
 License-Statement:

Does this mean you are the sole copyright holder? Or is this a work
derived from someone else's work? What is the license of that existing
work?

i'm not the copyright holder, nor Upstream. see #421513:

Upstream Author : Alexander Palmo (apalmo at bigevilbrain dot com)

The Simple PHP Blog is released under the GNU Public License.

There's no such license. You probably mean the GNU General Public
License, version 2 or, at your option, any later version.

I understand that as 'choose any version of GNU (General) Public
License you want.'

[snipped the rest]

So it looks as sphpblog can't be included in the distribution yet.
I'll try to contact Upstream, and point out the problems.

I hope that he will clarify/correct the License.

thanks for your input.

I've tested with ircd-hybrid, but it should also do ircd-ircu and

ircd-irc2 is not on that list. It does mention the 2.8 version, but
2.9, 2.10 and specially 2.11 have different server-server protocols.
The current 2.11 now refuses to talk to anything that doesn't claim it
supports 2.11, and we removed most of the backward compatibility code.

It's unlikely that it'll work with it if it's not mentioned.

Description : Generic library support script - CVS snapshot

The libtool from CVS snapshot closes many bugs marked with fixed-upstream tag
for libtool package. Unfortunately, there is no Debian package, yet.

The bleeding-edge libtool is required, if you want to release an application
for an evironment without C++ compiler. See Bug#221873.

I would like to provide the package for libtool and libtoolize script only,
without libltdl library. The package conflicts with standard libtool package.

archive does not go back far enough to show any 2.9 release), and the
p9 protocol is not supported by the version of ircu that is currently
in Debian. A quick glance at both the 5.0.61 and 5.1-pre1 source code
for ircservices shows that it still uses p9 rather than p10.

ircd-irc2 is not on that list. It does mention the 2.8 version, but
 2.9, 2.10 and specially 2.11 have different server-server protocols.
The current 2.11 now refuses to talk to anything that doesn't claim it
supports 2.11, and we removed most of the backward compatibility code.

Whoops, my mistake. I'm sure it's possible to add support.

Bug#421977: RFH: quagga co-maintainer wanted (BGP/OSPF/RIP routing daemon)

2007-05-17 Thread Christian Hammers
 Christian Hammers pí¹e v St 02. 05. 2007 v 19:37 +0200:
 Package: wnpp
 Severity: normal

 Hello

I'm looking for a co-maintainer as a holiday and illness backup for
the package quagga which is quite easy to maintain and does not need
 much work.

 Hi Christian,

since I am much involved in networking (in fact writing from RIPE54
now :-) and I do use quagga on some of our sites (and Cisco and Juniper
and openbgpd) and I do package bird (another routing daemon), I offer
you and help with packaging quagga.

Also I am interested to have in 4-byte ASN support in quagga soon :-).

Oh wonderful. Currently Florian Weimer is also helping out a bit but
having more than one co-maintainer does not hurt. If you have any idea how
to get 4 -byte ASNs into Quagga go ahead :)
I'm currently on holyday until June but just subscribe to the package on
http://packages.qa.debian.org/q/quagga.html and maybe add some comments to
open bug reports and I contact you when I'm back home.

bye,

-christian-

Bug#421513: sphpblog License-Question (modified/expanded GPL)

On 17-May-2007, Cord Beermann wrote:

I understand that as 'choose any version of GNU (General) Public
 License you want.'

To be perfectly clear, this would be better written as:

... licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License as
published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of that
license or, at your option, any later version.

Thus, it's only the GPL as published by the FSF; and it's only version
2 or later, not previous versions.

Thus, when version 3 is published, presumably people will begin to
release new and derived works under version 3 or any later version,
thus cutting off the option of prior versions for those works and
ensuring that the flaws in the prior versions gradually become less
relevant.

So, it's not quite as broad as any version you want.

So it looks as sphpblog can't be included in the distribution yet.
I'll try to contact Upstream, and point out the problems.

Thank you for this.

Description : Scripts to work locally on Subversion checkouts using
Mercurial

This set of scripts allows to work locally on Subversion-managed projects
using the Mercurial distributed version control system.
 .
Why use Mercurial ? You can do local (disconnected) work, pull the latest
changes from the SVN server, manage private branches, submit patches to
project maintainers, etc. And of course you have fast local operations like
 hg log, hg annotate...
 .
Currenly two scripts are provided: hgimportsvn and hgpullsvn
 .
hgimportsvn initializes an SVN checkout which is also a Mercurial repository.
 .
hgpullsvn pulls the latest changes from the SVN repository, and updates the
Mercurial repository accordingly. It can be run multiple times.

indexes for arbitrary document-preparation systems. This includes
systems such as TeX and LaTeX, the roff-family, SGML/XML-based systems
(e.g. HTML) that process some kind of text and generate indexing
information. The kernel system is not fixed to any specific system, but
can be configured to work together with such systems.
 .
In comparison to other index processors xindy has several powerful
features that make it an ideal framework for describing and generating
complex indices, addressing especially international indexing. Have a

Description : An object oriented data analysis framework

The ROOT system provides a set of OO frameworks with all the
functionality needed to handle and analyse large amounts of data in a
very efficient way. Having the data defined as a set of objects,
specialised storage methods are used to get direct access to the
separate attributes of the selected objects, without having to touch
the bulk of the data. Included are histograming methods in 1, 2 and 3
dimensions, curve fitting, function evaluation, minimisation, graphics
and visualization classes to allow the easy setup of an analysis
system that can query and process the data interactively or in batch
mode.

The CINT C++ interpreter is builtin.

Description : Server and Clients for the BoxBackup remote backup system

I'm currently using boxbackup for my private use. I've crafted packages
for my own used based on the ones from Jérôme Schell, I needed to apply
one patch from upstream though. I'd like to see boxbackup in debian, so
I'm filing this ITP. Help with this package is highly appreciated.

I'm CC'ing Jérôme Schell and Jesus Climent with this email, as they both
have expressed interest in the boxbackup packages. I'm CC'ing the
boxbackup devel mailing list as well, perhaps there are even more people
interested in seeing boxbackup in debian. If someone feels interested in
Comaintaining this package, please contact me.

The debian/control file currently looks like this:

Package: boxbackup-server
Architecture: any

Bug#424875: ITP: libical0 -- libical offers parsing of ical text data.

2007-05-17 Thread Jonny Lamb
On Thu, 2007-05-17 at 16:27 +0200, Wilfried Goesgens wrote:
 * Package name: libical0

Although I'm might not be up-to-date on the library naming scheme[0],
I'm pretty sure a zero should go on the end of the binary package's
name, only the source package, which is what is being asked for above.

The ICal library was originaly maintained by Eric Busboom and Andrea
Campi. Its new Maintainer is Art Cancro.

libical is currently not in Debian, but there is an ITP for libical[1]
already.

Now, looking at this other libical[2], it is clear that it is a
modified version of the original libical project, where the original
libical project is what this ITP is for.

So are these two ical libraries both needed in Debian? What is the
difference between them?

Its used by the Citadel Project, Kontact and Evolution (in forked
versions). This release contains the patches from the forks.
The Citadel ITP #423911 depends on this.

Interestingly, when I asked about the other libical's status in the bug
report[1] for another reason, the owner of the bug reported that they
were working on libical for Citadel too -- this is the main thing that
makes me think that there is no need for two these two versions in
Debian, if they both being packaged with Citadel in mind (ie. I assume
they both work with Citadel).

I hope I'm understanding everything here -- I'm no expert on anything
ical-related, otherwise please correct me here!

Bug#424905: RFP: sdlmame -- SDLMAME is a port of the popular MAME™.

2007-05-17 Thread Edo Hikmahtiar

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

SDLMAME is a port of the popular MAME™. There are a few principles that
guide it's development: 1) run on Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, and other SDL
supported operating systems with as few changes as possible to the base
Win32 code. This means we can track changes faster than larger more
conventional ports such as MacMAME, and we also maintain what I call
Firefox compatibilty where learning a major app only needs to be done once
per application, and it then applies across many operating systems. If you
can use the command-line Win32 MAME, you already know how to use SDLMAME on
any platform you may encounter it on. 2) MAME developers are important. By
keeping quickly up to date, we make it easy for people on non-Windows
platforms to make and submit changes to the core MAME code, and we offer
native implementations of MAME's multi-window GUI debugger on both
Linux/Unix and Mac OS X.

Description : A client for the ClamAV virus scanner daemon

This package supplies ClamAV::Client, a Perl interface to
the ClamAV virus scanner via the clamd daemon. It allows
connection either over a UNIX domain socket to a local
clamd, via TCP to a remote one.

The client package fully implements the clamd socket protocol,
with both scanning and daemon management calls provided.

alsa-firmware is part of the ALSA and needed for several cards.
It's currently not available in Debian but I think it should
(if possible).

A brief look at the licenses showed GPL but I don't know if
this is liberal enough for Debian (remembering, but not being
