It sounds like a useful package, but please add to the description an
expansion of the CTL acronym.

Bug#430162: RFH: dsniff -- Various tools to sniff network traffic for cleartext insecurities

2007-06-22 Thread Luciano Bello
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the dsniff package.
In this moment, upstream is preparing a new version in python[1] (the current
is in C) and its look like he do not maintain this one anymore. In the other
hand, the current application has important problems[2]. Use to be a very
popular package[3] and I think that should be maintained until upstream
release the new version.

I'm looking for people who wants to fix it and help to package it with me.

[2] http://bugs.debian.org/420129
[3]
http://people.debian.org/~igloo/popcon-graphs/index.php?packages=dsniff&want_percent=on

The package description is:

This package contains several tools to listen to and create network traffic:
.
 * arpspoof - Send out unrequested (and possibly forged) arp replies.
 * dnsspoof - forge replies to arbitrary DNS address / pointer queries
  on the Local Area Network.
 * dsniff - password sniffer for several protocols.
 * filesnarf - saves selected files sniffed from NFS traffic.
 * macof - flood the local network with random MAC addresses.
 * mailsnarf - sniffs mail on the LAN and stores it in mbox format.
 * msgsnarf - record selected messages from different Instant Messengers.
 * sshmitm - SSH monkey-in-the-middle. proxies and sniffs SSH traffic.
 * sshow - SSH traffic analyser
 * tcpkill - kills specified in-progress TCP connections.
 * tcpnice - slow down specified TCP connections via "active"
 traffic shaping.
 * urlsnarf - output selected URLs sniffed from HTTP traffic in CLF.
 * webmitm - HTTP / HTTPS monkey-in-the-middle. transparently proxies.
 * webspy - sends URLs sniffed from a client to your local browser.
.
Please do not abuse this software.

cheers, luciano

Bug#430140: ITP: hoard -- Fast, scalable, and efficient replacement memory allocator

2007-06-22 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Russ Allbery <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: hoard
  Version : 3.6.2
  Upstream Author : Emery Berger <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.hoard.org/
* License : GPL (with some docs under Apache 2.0)
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : Fast, scalable, and efficient replacement memory allocator

Hoard is a replacement memory allocator that can be used instead of glibc
malloc without recompiling binaries. It is faster and more efficient
under many load patterns than the default glibc malloc, and is particularly
good for multithreaded programs running on multiple processors.

I'm primarily packaging Hoard for use with OpenLDAP, where it increases
performance significantly over the default glibc allocator.

There are some papers included in the upstream source package under
non-free licenses which will be removed in the Debian package.

* Package name: libscope-guard-perl
  Version : 0.03
  Upstream Author : chocolateboy, <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://www.cpan.org/
* License : Perl: Artistic/GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : lexically scoped resource management

 Scope::Guear provides a convenient way to perform cleanup or other forms of
 resource management at the end of a scope. It is particularly useful when
 dealing with exceptions.
 The Scope::Guard constructor takes a reference to a subroutine that is
 guaranteed to be called even if the thread of execution is aborted
prematurely.
 This effectively allows lexically-scoped "promises" to be made that are
 automatically honoured by perl's garbage collector.
