Bug#446737: RFA: xtla

2007-10-15 Thread Matthieu Moy
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I'm not a Debian Developer, but I've been the maintainer of the Xtla
package, with [EMAIL PROTECTED] doing the uploads.

Xtla is now replaced by DVC, which reuses the Xtla code base to manage
many other version control systems tools (git, hg, mtn, darcs,
bzr, ...). The DVC build system also has been greatly improved, and
solves most of the long-standing bugs of Xtla's Debian package.

The debian package for DVC exists, the debian/ directory is in
upstream (mostly based on Gnus' build system and package), so, not
much work is needed, but the package needs a Debian Developer to be
correctly included in Debian. I don't have time to be that person at
the moment unfortunately.

qavimator is a QT, BVH animation editor and allows the creation and editing of
BVH avatar animations. These are
commonly used in the 3D metaverse Secondlife (SL) for the in-world animation of
avatars. The application allows full
control of each joint but is supplied with default SL joint movement
limitations. Key frames can be specified and
animations interpolated between them. Basic props may also be used to aid the
correct positioning of your animations
with respect to objects. qavimator is tuned specificly for generation of
animations for Secondlife.

Description : Perl implementation of Sender Policy Framework and Sender ID

Mail::SPF is an object-oriented Perl implementation of the Sender Policy
Framework (SPF) e-mail sender authentication system .

It supports both the TXT and SPF RR types as well as both SPFv1 (v=spf1) and
Sender ID (spf2.0) records, and it is fully compliant to RFCs 4408 and 4406.
(It does not however implement the patented PRA address selection algorithm
described in RFC 4407.)

The source package would generate two binary packages: libmail-spf-perl
and spf-tools-perl, the latter of which would ship the executables
included with the Mail::SPF upstream package (currently spfquery and
spfd).

* Package name: sketch
  Version : 0.2.9
  Upstream Author : Eugene Ressler
* URL : http://www.frontiernet.net/~eugene.ressler
* License : Unknown "Copyleft"
  Programming Lang: C
Description : produce 3D line drawings from scene description language

Sketch is a simple system for producing line drawings of
three-dimensional objects and scenes. Sketch is intended to produce finely
wrought, mathematically-based illustrations with no extraneous detail
and be able to easily overlay TeX math and text. The input language is
reminiscent of PSTricks, so will be easy to learn for current PSTricks
users. It generates either PSTricks or TikZ/PGF code as output.

LICENSING NOTES:

On the website it states,

I've developed some tools while writing a textbook. They're good
enough to get real work done, so I'm offering them free under
   Copyleft.

But there seems to be no explicit licensing information in the source.
Obviously I need to figure this out before the package can be considered
for inclusion in Debian.

NAME NOTES:

There was another package named sketch; it seems to be gone now. If this
is problematic, an alternative name could be sketch3d

libuninum is a library for converting Unicode strings to numbers. Internal
computation is done using arbitrary precision arithmetic, so there is no
limit on the size of the integer that can be converted. The value is returned
as an ASCII decimal string, a GNU MP object, or an unsigned long integer.
Auto-detection of the number system is provided. The number systems supported
include Arabic, Armenian, Balinese, Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, Cyrillic,
Devanagari, Egyptian, Ethiopic, Glagolitic, Greek, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Hebrew,
Kannada, Khmer, Klingon, Lao, Limbu, Malayalam, Mongolian, New Tai Lue, Nko,
Old Italic, Old Persian, Oriya, Osmanya, Perso-Arabic, Phoenician, Roman
Numerals, Tamil, Telugu, Tengwar, Thai, and Tibetan.

Note that pinot has been packaged in the Ubuntu "universe" section.
I've not looked at its packaging, but it might be easier to start from
there rather than packaging from scratch:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/source/pinot

Currently 0.75 is packaged there.

Screenlets are small owner-drawn applications (written in Python) that
can be described as "the virtual representation of things lying/standing
around on your desk". Sticknotes, clocks, rulers, ... the possibilities
are endless.

The goal of the Screenlets base-classes is to simplify the creation of
fully themeable mini-apps that each solve basic desktop-work-related
needs and generally improve the usability and eye-candy of the modern
composited Linux-desktop.

Description : high performance collections for java objects and
primitive types
GNU Trove is a fast, lightweight implementations of the java.util
Collections API. These implementations are designed to be pluggable
replacements for their JDK equivalents.
Whenever possible, GNU Trove provide the same collections support for
primitive types. This gap in the JDK is often addressed by using the
"wrapper" classes (java.lang.Integer, java.lang.Float, etc.) with
Object-based collections. For most applications, however, collections
which store primitives directly will require less space and yield
significant performance gains.

Description: RT FAQ Manager
RTFM is an enterprise-grade knowledge management tool that enables an
organization to easily capture and share its employees' knowledge and wisdom.
 .
Just as you use RT (request-tracker3 open-source ticketing system) to log
tickets and resolve issues, RTFM lets you open, categorize and search for
"articles." Like RT, RTFM lets your users contribute additional information
to existing articles and makes sure that each article's full history is
preserved for future inspection. RTFM makes it easy to quickly search the
knowledge base and find critical information.

A couple of nitpicks:

In the long description, in English, always capitalize the first word
of the sentence. Thus "Qavimator is a QT-based BVH animation editor..."
Also, please reformat to fit in an 80-character line.

Oh, and either "secondlife" needs to be capitalized in the short
description, or lowercased in the long.

Steve

Bug#446783: RFP: screenlets -- Small owner-drawn applications that can be described as "the virtual representation of things lying around on your desk"

Hi,

I have something useable for screenlets. I can do an ITP and push it to
mentors.debian.org but I need someone to review and upload it. My last 2

BVH is Biovision Hierarchy, a file format originally developed by
Biovision a motion capture services company and is used to describe the
position of skeletal joints over time. Its main use is for the
animation of 3D human or animal models and utilised in the 3D metaverse
Secondlife to provide avatar animations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biovision_Hierarchy

Hope that answers your question, I suppose I should have included a
little more here in the long description as it is not a common format.

Robin

You also must write a long description. Please reply to this message
with the missing information, so we can have a look at it. The same goes

Thanks for the pullups.

Sorry to sound stupid but can I do anything about the original ITP
report, or is it just a case of repost the (corrected) template here and
get it correct for the upload to mentors?

Thanks for your reply. I know I have to provide licence and long
description, but as of now I still don't know them; I've contacted
upstream author (the same of pygpu, I'm packaging it and it depends on
pyglew and pycg provided by upstream) regarding the packages he
provides, since they are only a bunch of binary files (with no source)
and an installer python script.

I'll surely write down those information as soon as I'll be sure about that.

Thanks,
Sandro

Maybe you don't know the license (although PyGPU is GPL version 2, it
says so in COPYRIGHT.txt), but you can already write a long description.

Well, the PyGLEW package should also be GPL version 2. If it has a
license incompatible with GPLv2, then you cannot link both that library
and PyGPU to an application, and the website says that PyGPU doesn't
work without PyGLEW.

While you're at it, tell upstream that they should include the full
license text in COPYRIGHT.txt, or ask if they really expect everyone to
write a letter to the Free Software Foundation :)

> I'll surely write down those information as soon as I'll be sure about that.

Ok, but next time explicitly mention that you are missing information
(and why) in the ITP.

Hi Guus,
I'm sorry if I did some mistakes; these ITP was meant as a "marker"
for the intention to package those libs, and I'll fill missing
information as soon as I got them in the deb packages themselves.

Thanks for pointing out that,
Sandro

Hi,

While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package
came up as a package that should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer,
because:

 * RC bugs open for a very long time

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: --
thanks

For more information, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-archive-manip
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Thank you,

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I would like someone to pick this package up, I have not had enough
time to properly maintain this package. This is a kernel module, and
requires some merging of MacBook iSight patch which probably is not
(yet) merged upstream. New upstream releases happened and are
supposed to be significantly better.

I think Iwamatsu-san was looking at this package, do you want it?

Description: Linux Kernel USB Video Class module
linux-uvc is a kernel module that supports some standard devices that
 implement USB Video Class.
 .
Currently supports Logitech Quickcam Fusion, Logitech Quickcam Orbit,
Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks, and Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000.

Bug#446791: ITP: python-pycg -- NVIDIA's Cg 1.4 for Python

ITPs serve as a marker, but also as way to get some of the package
basics right before you upload debs and people spend time translating
them. The sooner you find and fix a bug, the easier it is.

I don't think you need to repost the ITP, since our exchange is
in the bug log. Just make sure that you get the fixes into the
package/templates before anyone spends time translating. That's why I
(when I notice) send these kinds of trivial fixes to the ITP, so that
they get fixed before a real upload.
