i've just reviewed the situation of exmh re metamail and decided that

exmh 2.7.2-12 a few minutes ago, so from my perspective metamail can
go.

Description : tool to correct MP3 files that have broken Variable BitRate
information

In an average song there are points that require high quality and points
that require low quality (i.e. silence).

Instead of having the whole file at 160kbps CBR (Constant Bit Rate), we
can use VBR (Variable Bit Rate). This allows us to have say 96kbps at
points not requiring high quality and 192kbps when we need it: resulting
in an overall smaller but higher quality MP3.

Unfortunately, the problem is that many MP3 MP3 decoders estimate the
time of a MP3 file based on the first bitrate they find and the
filesize. This means that the "prediction" used by such decoders is
wildly wrong with VBR encoded files and, as a result, you can get fairly
random times.

As most songs start with silence you usually get the song length being
shown as much longer than it should be. Also when you jump through a
file encoded in VBR, 50% through the file is not 50% through the song.

A VBR null frame is placed at the beginning of the file to tell the MP3
player information about the song length and indexing through the
song.

The problem arises because some poor encoders don't produce this null
frame or do so incorrectly and this is what Vbrfix attempts to fix.

Vbrfix can also fix other problems with MP3s as it deletes all non-MP3
content (other than tags you state you want to keep). It can also help
when merging two VBR MP3s together with a merging tool and then needing
a newly calculated VBR null frame.

Bug#158476: O: type1inst -- Install Adobe Type 1 fonts into X11 and Ghostscript

2007-12-11 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

The 'type1inst' package has been orphaned for a very long time now (in
fact, it's one of the oldest orphaned packages in Debian). I'm going
through such packages, to see if they can be safely removed from Debian,
since noone seems to care about them.

Does someone know if this package is still useful? It has been orphaned
for a very long time...

With no action from anyone, I'll request the removal of this package
from Debian after a month.

Thank you,

Cristal is a text-based MUD client that supports not only telnet

features, such as line editing, split-screen scrollback.

As a Debian user and the upstream author, I would most gladly be
interested in maintaining an official Debian package (which would be my

LPeg is a new pattern-matching library for Lua, based on Parsing
Expression Grammars (PEGs). Parsing expression grammars look
similar to regular expressions or context-free grammars in
Backus-Naur form (BNF) notation. PEGs make a good replacement for
regular expressions, because they are strictly more powerful. For
example, a regular expression inherently cannot find matched pairs
of parentheses, because it is not recursive, but a PEG can.

I could live with telegnome being removed. Unfortunately there's no
replacement as far as I know (there are several tools in Debian that can
display Teletext given a TV card, but none that claim to download it
from the Internet), but, well, we might just have to cope with that.

90 installations in popcon isn't that much...

You are using it?

Note that it also depends on libgtk1.2, so it will probably be
considered for removal because of that too, sooner or later.

Because it has been orphaned for 2+ years and that nobody is taking care of

Hi,

libghttp has been orphaned since 2005. It would be great to get rid of
it, but some packages are still using it:

* digitaldj (dep on libghttp): could probably be removed. we already have
a lot of MP3 players in the archive.

* grip (b-dep on libghttp): build-depends on libghttp, doesn't link with
  it. (bug filed)

* orpheus (b-dep on libghttp): same as grip: b-dep, but binary package
  doesn't dep on libghttp

* libhttp-ghttp-perl (dep on libghttp): low popcon. could probably be

  could be removed?

Bug#300096: O: electric -- electrical CAD system

2007-12-11 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
Hi,

The 'electric' package has been orphaned for a very long time now (in
fact, it's one of the oldest orphaned packages in Debian). I'm going
through such packages, to see if they can be safely removed from Debian,
since noone seems to care about them.

You are receiving this mail because your name showed up somewhere in the
history of the package, or because I think that you might be interested
for some reason, or because you maintain a related/similar package. Are
you interested in adopting this package? Do you know potential adopters?
If so, could you forward them this mail, Ccing the BTS and me?

With no action from anyone, I'll request the removal of this package
from Debian after a month.

Thank you,

Bug#428311: Packages awaiting sponsorship (fsvs)

I think it makes sense for Mario to sponsor the package, then, since he
had more things he wanted dealt with prior to inclusion.

Mario, I've uploaded an updated package for 1.1.11:

http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/fsvs

It addresses the concerns you raised, and also fixes a confusing
whitespace bug in the documentation and online help.

Gentlemen, thanks again for taking an interest and being willing to
invest your time.

Ciao,
Sheldon.
