Bug#345547: upstream 0.9.3 and patches needed to compile it

2008-01-02 Thread Philippe Coval
Hi

I have been playing with this modem (bewan usb) during last week on my
family's computer (ubuntu)

As said at :
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unicorn/+bug/945

I built a new package with new upstream 0.9.3 and patches needed to
compile it
under debian unstable or ubuntu gutsy, see :
  http://rzr.online.fr/q/unicorn

If noone want to adopt this package, I can take it until someone else
wants to take care of,
because it's complicated for me to test it since I don't have the
hardware handy...

Anyway I'm looking for some uploader for NMU or a mentee upload ?
contact me and I upload it to : mentors.debian.net

Regards

Future Debian package candidate web pages: present and future

2008-01-02 Thread Sebastian Pipping
Hello!

The two web pages Packages being worked on [1] and
Requested packages [2] have several shortcomings:
* No sorting by age
* No importance/popularity tag of packages
* No combined requested-or-worked-on (== not packaged) view
* No easy status indicator, e.g. license issues,
  upstream without maintainer, ...

Measuring popularity could be done either explicitly
(e.g. through votes) or implicitly (e.g. through
counting the number of people replying to a request).

With these features those pages would show better
what packages ...
* are potentially easy to package, therefore suitable
  for motivated Debian rookies
* are really wanted
* are important though hard to package
* catching dust already

I think that a bit more infrastructure could do a lot
here, e.g. increase the package-per-minute rate.

Please let me know ...
* what you think
* how it can be done
* how I can help.

Yes, it's bullet list Wednesday :-)

I hope to hear of you soon,

Sebastian

Hi,

I am no longer interested in maintaing wine-doors. Unfortunately it
appears as if upstream is quiet unfriendly and uncorporative when it
comes to fixing (license) issues and also ignore mails when directed
directly to Karl and not to the Mailing lists (but don't bother to
moderate their mailing list probably). I
don't care enough in wine-doors to work with such an upstream and
therefore I hope that someone else does.

Best Regards,
Patrick

Bug#458811: ITP: mgltools -- preparation of proteins and ligands to analyse their binding

* License : various custom non-free, mostly academia-only
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : preparation of proteins and ligands to investigate their
binding

The package comprises AutoDockTools, Python Molecular Viewer, Vision and
many helping smaller python libraries which shall all become available
as Debian packages ... if their license permits. The essential mslib
library for instance comes with binaries which should not go into
Debian. The analysis itself is performed with AutoDock, which was
recently made available under the GPL.

Upstream is very supportive but their binary-only libraries are of a
third party. This set of tools is well known across biochemistry and
computational/structural biology. This ITP should be out and then we
will see how to compromise for something that might fit into Debian.

The current state of the packaging effort can be inspected in the

 I believe APT should prefer unstable for package building.

Yes, that's generally true. But the machine from which I do my e-mail
(and hence, reportbug) runs stable since it's actually important, while I
do my building in an unstable chroot (and using pbuilder, in addition).
So no issue, IMO.

Thanks for the input though.

Rene

Bug#458819: ITP: nettee -- a network tee program

2008-01-02 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Joel Franco]
   Description : a network tee program

 It can typically transfer data between N nodes at (nearly) the full
 bandwidth provided by the switch which connects them. It is handy for
 cloning nodes or moving large database files.

So would that make nettee a faster bittorrent? Or is bittorrent, in
fact, a faster nettee?
