Bug#465030: RFP: wildmidi -- software MIDI player and library

2008-02-10 Thread Emmet Hikory
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: wildmidi
  Version : 0.2.2
  Upstream Author : Chris Ison <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://wildmidi.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL, LGPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : software MIDI player and library

WildMIDI is a simple software MIDI player using the wildmidi library.
The player itself is rather useless, but the library is a nice means
to provide MIDI processing without the overhead of timidity (and avoids
any need to split out a libtimidity to allow build-dependencies without
running a daemon).

I've prepared a package for Ubuntu, and would be more than willing to
also support this in Debian if anyone is interested. Alternately, if
someone else wants to maintain it, feel free: I'm happy to pass initial
packages to get started.

2008-02-10 Thread Thomas Seyrat
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

  I hereby orphan the idswakeup package. This software can be of
  interest to security or network professionals dealing with NIDS.

  It needs to be adapted to run with libnet1 instead of libnet0 (open
  bug), and a simple bashism exists in the main program (open bug).

Description: tool for testing network intrusion detection systems
 idswakeup is a Bourne shell script invoking hping2 (required) and iwu
 (part of this package) to generate false alarms in order to check if
 a network intrusion detection system works all right.
 .
 idswakeup requires no configuration and includes many common attack
 simulations.

  Description : convert English text into humorous dialects

 The GNU Talk Filters are filter programs that convert ordinary English text
 into text that mimics a stereotyped or otherwise humorous dialect. These
 filters have been in the public domain for many years, but now for the first
 time they are provided as a single integrated package. The filters include:
 austro, b1ff, brooklyn, chef, cockney, drawl, dubya, fudd, funetak, jethro,
 jive, kraut, pansy, pirate, postmodern, redneck, valspeak and warez. Each
 program reads from standard input and writes to standard output.

No, see #458380, RFA: latex-ucs

which has been discussed in December in

filters has programs written some in perl and some in lex, so that's not
really possible to do a shared library.

The talkfilters frankly seem like a better implementation, if they would
only not be so apparently cavalier about copyright.

I did not notice that discrepancy between the info page and the copyright
headers. In my debian/copyright [1] I tried to catch the most information
possible. But I admit I did not try to "contact upstream", sorry.

> Also, your package conflicts with many of the files contained in the filters
> package.

Sure, sorry for that.
Is there any chance for filter to provide a "libfilters" library to interface
with? I've packaged talkfilters because it was a possible use of libtranslate
[2] [3], but that's not really necessary. I could try to patch it so that it
uses your "filters" package, but that would need a library to use.

In the meanwhile, I'll rebuild libtranslate disabling support for talkfilters,
so that it (together with gnome-translate) can be uploaded.

Thank you for spotting the problem,
David

It's not a huge amount of work but it really should be someone will use

Could you please maintain pyglet in the Debian Python Modules Team (DPMT)?

http://wiki.debian.org/Teams/PythonModulesTeam

This is so that it's easy for the DPMT members to manage and make
changes to all python modules. For example when a python policy
changes,
or we switch from python2.4 to python2.5 etc.

Upstream has released a new version that works with sympy. Any
progress in packaging it?

Ondrej

Bug#465165: O: mma -- Musical Midi Accompaniment generator

2008-02-10 Thread Barry deFreese

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Hello,

While looking to adopt attal for the games team, I asked the current
maintainer Raphael Goulais <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> about mma. He is no
longer active and is fine with having this orphaned.

Here is the e-mail correspondence for posterity:

Yes, thank you :)

Regards,

Rafou

This package has a low popcon and has had a new upstream out for years
so if this is not adopted in short order, I will probably request removal.

Thank you,

Barry deFreese

Bug#465179: ITP: php-codesniffer -- tokenises PHP code and detects violations of a defined set of coding standards

2008-02-10 Thread Jack Bates
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Jack Bates <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: php-codesniffer
* URL : http://pear.php.net/package/PHP_CodeSniffer/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: PHP
  Description : tokenises PHP code and detects violations of a defined set
of coding standards

 PHP_CodeSniffer is a PHP5 script that tokenises and "sniffs" PHP code
 to detect violations of a defined set of coding standards. It is an
 essential development tool that ensures that your code remains clean
 and consistent. It can even help prevent some common semantic errors
 made by developers.

Sure I would, but read on.

I have a package for 1.0. But I failed to convince upstream the put the
documentation sources into the source tarball. He seems to be pretty
much set with respect to what people need and what not. Therefore the
sources have to be repackages (removed docs) or a new source
distribution has to be compiled from the upstream source SVN.

At the moment I am (re)evaluating whether I want to do that or go with
pygame.

If you or the DPMT want to take over, please feel free to do so:

Thanks for your interest,

Michael
