FWIW, you can do this with the srecord package. Despite the name, it reads
and writes a bunch of hex formats and binary, and can convert between them
and apply various other transformations (address shift, byte swapping)
etc.

Note that I'm not objecting to your ITP, only proposing an existing
solution. hex2bin might be simpler to use, although it could probably be
implemented as a simple wrapper script on-top of srecord, and packaged
with it. You can do a hex to binary conversion with:

srec_cat -Intel -output -Binary

I'm offering some packages up for adoption so I have more time for the
others.

retty so far only exists on i386, though upstream has said they would
want to port it to amd64. There's also a bash script that uses gdb to
do the same, maybe it could be shipped along with retty. (Attached.)

Maintaining a package requires time and skills. Please only adopt this
package if you are *sure* you will have enough time and attention to
work on it.

If you want to be the new maintainer, please see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-rfa for detailed

Description: attach processes running on other terminals
retty is a tiny tool that lets you attach processes running on other
terminals. So you were running that mutt outside of screen at your home
machine and now wanna check your mail? Attach it with retty, do whatever you
want, detach it again and everything is as it was before. You don't have to
run them all in screen just in case.
 .
Note that the tool is only very lightly tested, so take some care. Always
check first if attaching given application works before you will do it for
 real.

FYI, in the meantime, we'll use a project hosted on our PicoForge server
and svn-buildpackage as described in :

Volunteers welcome ;)

Bug#464014: Applying for collaborative maintainance of phpgroupware

2008-02-21 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: wnpp
Followup-For: Bug #464014

I'm not so sure if there's a procedure for applying in case of collaborative
maintenance, but anyway, here we go.

I volunteer for applying as co-maintainer of the package, together with
Christian Bac <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, who should followup soon to this ITP.

We are considering to restricting the list of packaged phpGroupware
applications to fewer packages than there were in previous package, namely
"core" or "maintained" apps first (refering to plans of upstream trying to
setup some hierarchy in their codebase, as explained in
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/phpgroupware-developers/2008-02/msg00032.html).

If the former maintainer (Andrew Mitchell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) was still
interested, I'm sure we would benefit from his expertise, but he doesn't seem
to be responding atm :(

I hope we can help bring back phpgroupware into Debian, but this should only be
possible as a collaborative effort in our opinion.

Reusing bits of previous "phpgroupware" alioth projects could be interesting
for collaboration maybe in order to allow easier takeover in case of need ?

Bug#466866: O: libjsw -- joystick library

2008-02-21 Thread Darren Salt
Package: wnpp

I've neglected libjsw for far too long; I just don't have any real interest
in maintaining it these days (and anyway it's ages since I last used a
joystick, and even then it was an old one with a standard DB9 connector).

searchandrescue and oxine depend on libjsw, and bug 458774 says that oxine
needs libjsw 1.56; jscalibrator should be ported to GTK+2 sometime.

This follows up discussion in -games:

Bug#466297: Is this package PHP4 only?

2008-02-21 Thread NoWhereMan
Hi David,

this is Edoardo Vacchi (NoWhereMan), the leading (at the moment almost
the only) developer of FlatPress.

FlatPress was meant to work in a PHP4 environment, when PHP4 was
easier to find on cheap hosts: which host would have provided PHP5
without MySQL?

By the way the package is *fully compatible with PHP5* even though
uses old style constructors for its (few) classes; my own hosts are
powered by PHP5 and many users hadn't find any problem as of now.

There are only some little quirks ( $var =& new Obj() ) which could
prevent future PHP6 compatibility, but they'll be fixed of course with
newer releases;

I'll take this opportunity to asks all people who are interested to
try the SVN version and help me with the last bug tracking activity
before a newer release (bugs are still a few...)

regards,

~e.v.

Bug#466728: ITP: python-trio -- RDF utilities

In the general case maybe but for this I disagree. For highly specialised
development tools such as RDF there is really no need to be verbose about what
the name actually means because those who would be interested already know.

I took a look at the current state of affairs w/r to RDF:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~ $ apt-cache search rdf | grep rdf
liblrdf0 - a library to manipulate RDF files describing LADSPA plugins
liblrdf0-dev - liblrdf0 development files
librdf-perl - Perl language bindings for the Redland RDF library
librdf-ruby - Ruby 1.8 language bindings for the Redland RDF library
librdf0 - Redland Resource Description Framework (RDF) library
librdf0-dev - Redland RDF library development libraries and headers
php5-librdf - PHP5 language bindings for the Redland RDF library
python-librdf - Python language bindings for the Redland RDF library
python-rdflib - RDF library containing an RDF triple store and RDF/XML
parser/serializer

Only one of these packages is expanding the acronym RDF.

I really don't see the use case here.

Sorry, this is precisely rationale I fight against. Just saying "if you
don't know what this is, you don't need this" defeats the purpose of
packages descriptions. If that's the case why not just use cryptic
packages descriptions so that only Those Who have The Knowledge can use
them.

There is room to give some hint to users. Why not use it? Comparing this
to very widely spread acronyms such as HTTP and GTK is comparing apples
and oranges.

Also don't neglect the help provided by Debian packages to ppl who
sometimes wonder about things they see here or there. Good packages
descriptions benefit everybody and we all have tons of things to learn.
