Bug#470722: RFA: libunicode-japanese-perl - Perl module for convert japanese encodings

2008-03-13 Thread Tatsuki Sugiura
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request adoption for Unicode::Japanese perl module.

Now I do not use the module at all. This module can be almost
prelaced by perl built-in Encode modules.
However this can handle "EMOJI" of the mobile phones, someone
may needs the feature. Would anyone like to maintain?

Not only I can be a sponsor but I will be able to help with the script
part of the package if you need.

However since this package is part of the core of Debian, I prefer your
taking over to be announced first in debian-devel (and thats why I am
sending my reply to debian-devel too).

Let me remind to the readers of debian-devel that currently there are
two console packages in Debian -- kbd and console-tools. Console-tools
has no upstream maintainer and because of this the Debian maintainer of
console-tools has aready tagged several bugs as non-fix. The console
utilities of the installer are entirely based on kbd and not on
console-tools. Because of this kbd needs to be properly maintained.

I requested adopter for this package because it was never my intention
to maintain "kbd". The maintainer of "kbd" is the group "Console
utilities maintainers" and when this group reduced to only one member
(me) I had to take over.

Bug#470751: RFA: rest2web -- web site builder using ReStructured Text as basic content format

2008-03-13 Thread martin f krafft
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the rest2web package. I am simply no longer
using it.

The package description is:
 rest2web is a simple tool that lets you build your website from a single
 template (or as many as you want), and keep the contents in ReStructured Text
 (docutils; you can still keep pages in HTML if needed). The prefix "rest"
 does not in any way allude to the concept of "representational state
 transfer."
 .
 The tool provides a host of features, for example:
 .
  * Automatically builds index pages and navigation links (sidebars and
breadcrumbs).
  * Aids with the translation of the site to other languages.
  * Embedded code in templates for unlimited expressiveness.
  * Flexible macro system.
  * Uses relative links, so sites can be viewed from the filesystem.
  * Uses unicode internally.
  * Built-in gallery creator plugin.
 .
 Adding new pages is as easy as dropping a text file into the right folder;
 rest2web builds the new page and adds a link to it in the index (optionally
 with a description as well). Removing a page is just as easy: delete the
 file, and when you run rest2web again it removes the entry.

Just curious:
One of the major complaints about NX (iirc) and the reason why it wasn't
 packaged for Debian yet, is that it basically was a fork of the
complete Xorg/Xfree86 sources (which understandably didn't make our
security team happy).
Is nxcl a reimplementation that solves this problem?
Does it allow to implement the NX server as an extension for Xorg?

Cheers,
Michael

I'm aware of this, however, the cups/X fork is only for the server side.
On the client side there is normally an SSH fork involved, but I'm
working with the freenx people who have a patch to nxproxy so that it
doesn't need nxssh.

These ITPs are for an NX client with the above patches so that openssh
can be used rather than nxssh.

Bug#470766: O: curator -- Turn directories of images into static web content

2008-03-13 Thread Sven Hoexter
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the curator package.
In consensus with my sponsor, Andreas Tille, I've come to the conclusion
that Debian would be better of without curator because

a) it's abandoned upstream for a long time now
b) jigl offers a great alternative to curator and has solved a lot of the
shortcomings of curator.
c) popcon results are low.

To be fair to the 27 regular users of curator I'm orphaning the package
to give you a chance to stand up and take it over if you really, really
want to keep it. If nobody steps up very soon I'll request the removal of
curator in early April.

So if you wan't it please take into account that you've to fix every problem
with the curator script on your own. There is nobody avaible upstream to
help you.

I recommend to switch to jigl now and let curator die.

The package description is:
 Curator is a powerful script that allows one to generate Web page image
 galleries with the intent of displaying photographic images on the Web, or for
 a CD-ROM presentation and archiving.
 .
 It generates static Web pages only - no special configuration or running
 scripts are required on the server. The script supports many file formats,
 hierarchical directories, thumbnail generation and update, per-image
 description file with any attributes, and 'tracks' of images spanning multiple
 directories. The templates consist of HTML with embedded Python. Running this
 script only requires a recent Python interpreter and the ImageMagick tools.

I know about kbd building a udeb, and the consequences of that, and I
think that I have enough knowledge about a maintainer’s duties to cope

Bug#470795: RFH: apache2 - Co-maintainer wanted

I request assistance with maintaining the apache2 package.

The package is not in a bad shape, but I just keep up with new bug reports and
haven't been able to actually reduce the bug count for some time. The other
Apache Team members are currently mostly inactive.

The new co-maintainer(s) should of course have experience as apache user.

This RFH also includes the ssl-cert, apr, and apr-util packages. But those
are less work and have fewer bugs.

Bug#470813: ITP: ext3grep -- Tool to facilitate and automate deleted file recovery from an ext3 filesystem.

2008-03-13 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

> ext3grep is a simple tool intended to aid anyone who accidentally deletes a
> file on an ext3 filesystem, only to find that they wanted it shortly
> thereafter.

How does it relate to the recover package:

Package: recover
Version: 1.3c-11
Priority: optional
Section: admin
Maintainer: Luca Bruno <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Description: Undelete files on ext2 partitions
 Recover automates some steps as described in the ext2-undeletion howto. This
means it seeks all the deleted
 inodes on your hard drive with debugfs. When all the inodes are indexed,
recover asks you some questions
 about the deleted file. These questions are:
 * Hard disk device name
 * Year of deletion
 * Month of deletion
 * Weekday of deletion
 * First/Last possible day of month
 * Min/Max possible file size
 * Min/Max possible deletion hour
 * Min/Max possible deletion minute
 * User ID of the deleted file
 * A text string the file included (can be ignored)

 If recover found any fitting inodes, it asks to give a directory name and
dumps the inodes into the
 directory. Finally it asks you if you want to filter the inodes again (in case
you typed some wrong
 answers).

 Note that recover works only with ext2 filesystems - it does not support ext3.

 http://recover.sourceforge.net/linux/recover/

I would suspect it is better to have one tool capable of handling both
ext2 and ext3, instead of two tools.

Happy hacking,

I agree - I might be interested in scripting a tool to choose one
appropriately, but as it stands, the two tools are completely
unrelated.

The source to both is unrelated (as far as I can see), and ext3grep
uses the journal information and old metadata to pull out inodes, old
file blocks, et al, for ext3 only. I haven't tested it on ext2, but
it's designed to use the old journal data to recover, so I'm uncertain
at best how it will perform.

In general, I feel it would be better to have a recover tool that did
more than just ext2 filesystems, which was a front end to recover.$FS,
similar to fsck.

As it stands, though, I'd like to wait until this tool becomes more
mature to attempt to integrate them, or even write a front-end for
either - there's no guarantee that the semantics in this release will
keep working in the next. :)

- Rich
