Bug#466330: Bug#472691: ITP: libtext-markdown-perl -- CPAN implementation of the Markdown markup language

2008-03-26 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Joey Hess [Tue, 25 Mar 2008 15:33:29 -0400]:

 I think that the following changes made in the debian package of markdown
 should be reverted:

 -package Markdown;
 +package Text::Markdown;

 +my $g_perl_module = exists $INC{'Text/Markdown.pm'};
 # change above test to test for Markdown.pm

Aaah. I thought providing the module as Text::Markdown came from
upstream. Great then.

There is still the question of whether to install script/Markdown.pl
from CPAN as /usr/bin/markdown, and handle that one with alternatives,
or not.

Cheers,

Bug#472500: Bug#472702: ruby1.8: thread implementation has a couple serious bugs

2008-03-26 Thread Matt Zagrabelny
Hi,

 I don't know detail of the problem.

Unfortunately neither do I. I was taking Capistrano and the ruby-talk
thread's word that there was a problem.

 But Capistrano 2.1 print outs the following message:

   You are running Ruby 1.8.6, which has a bug in its threading implementation.
   You are liable to encounter deadlocks running Capistrano, unless you install
   the fastthread library, which is available as a gem:

 I think that it is a case of a couple serious bugs.
 (I couldn't find detail of the reason of
 the message from the svn-repo of Capistrano.)

 I tested about this message using unit-tests of Capistrano 2.1.

 When I run the tests with ruby1.8_1.8.6-2,
 the result was the following:

   $ rake
   [...]
   Loaded suite /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rake/rake_test_loader
   Started
   ... [...] ...deadlock 0xb76afb14: sleep:-  -
 ./test/../lib/capistrano/gateway.rb:57
   deadlock 0xb7c3a700: sleep:- (main) - ./test/../lib/capistrano/gateway.rb:64
   ./test/../lib/capistrano/gateway.rb:64:in `wait': Thread(0xb7c3a700):
 deadlock (fatal)

 And when I run it with ruby1.8_1.8.6.36-1 or ruby1.8_1.8.6.111-2,
 the result was all OK.

So the current version of ruby1.8 looks good. I will close the bug.
Thanks for your time.

Whoever packages Capistrano for Debian should then disable the warning
about fastthread, since it is fixed in ruby1.8.

Bug#472805: ITP: cerebro -- cluster monitoring tool

2008-03-26 Thread Patrick Winnertz
Package: wnpp
Owner: Patrick Winnertz [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: cerebro
  Version : 1.3
  Upstream Author : Albert Chu [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/cerebro
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : cluster monitoring tool

 Cerebro is a collection of cluster monitoring tools and libraries.
 This project has been named after a part of the central nervous
 system to pay homage to the Ganglia project.
 Several of the goals for cerebro were to develop a monitoring tool that,
 compared to ganglia:
  - Interrupts the CPU less frequently.
  - Provides the user with a set of libraries, command-line tools,
and a dynamic module interface that allow users to monitor new
metrics without any re-compilation or configuration changes.
  - Provides a dynamic module interface that allows individual clusters
to monitor different metrics based solely on the modules installed.
  - Provides a dynamic module interface that allows the libraries and
tools to have knowledge of every node in the cluster.
  - Provides a dynamic module interface that allows the libraries and
tools to automatically configure themselves across a cluster.
  - Removes XML overhead.

Description: Programs for counting physical source lines of code (SLOC)
 SLOCCount (pronounced sloc-count) is a suite of programs for counting
 physical source lines of code (SLOC) in potentially large software systems
 (thus, SLOCCount is a software metrics tool or software measurement tool).
 SLOCCount can count physical SLOC for a wide number of languages;
 listed alphabetically, they are: Ada, Assembly, awk, Bourne shell, C, C++,
 C shell, COBOL, C#, Expect, Fortran, Java, lex/flex, LISP (including Scheme),
 Makefile, Modula3, Objective-C, Pascal, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, sed, SQL,
 TCL, Yacc/Bison.
 SLOCCount can automatically determine if a file
 is a source code file or not, and if so, which language it's written in.
 As a result, you can analyze large systems completely automatically.
 SLOCCount also includes some report-generating tools
 to collect the data generated and present it in several different formats.

Bug#472500: Bug#472702: ruby1.8: thread implementation has a couple serious bugs

Hi Matt,

Matt Zagrabelny wrote:

I asked ruby-dev and Nakada-san replied.
He said that Ruby 1.8.6 p110 was merged (backport) with fastthread, and that the
current situation is opposite. fastthread 1.0.1 does not yet fix an issue that
Ruby 1.8.6 p110 has fixed. You should not use fastthread 1.0.1 with Ruby 1.8.6
p110 or later. So, you don't have to care about fastthread. Use Debian's latest
Ruby package.

Sorry, I don't know what the issue is, though.

Daigo

Package: wnpp

I am looking for a new maintainer for this package. It would need to be
someone who is intimately familiar with ODBC internals. Upstream mostly
develops on win32, and so a future maintainer would need to communicate
extensively with upstream to beat their releases into shape for use on a
many-architecture Linux distribution.

Adopters are encouraged to continue the package maintenance within the
pkg-postgresql group. I can help arrange access.

Package: libcap
Severity: wishlist

With kernel 2.6.24 file capabilities are available and the semantics of
CAP_SETPCAP has
changed to not being able to change capabilities of other processe.

To be able to use the file capabilities, libcap2 from [1] is needed, what seems
to be the
successor of libcap1. It includes the library, tools for manipulating file
capabilities, and
a PAM module. All tools have man-pages. For a guide to use the new file
capabilites, have a
look at [2].

If possible please consider updateing to libcap2. If you need help, I'd be glad
to help you.
Maybe libcap2 should be a set of new package; I have not investigated backward
compability.

Regards

Patrick

Bug#290350: Still need a sponsor for wmakerconf?

2008-03-26 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Hi Herbert,

Noticed that there isn't yet an upload of wmakerconf 2.12 into Debian,
and then I saw your message at bug #290350 that you can't get ahold of
your planned sponsor.

Do you still need a sponsor for package upload? I have a little free
time these days, so I'd be happy to sponsor it. I don't use Window
Maker anymore so I couldn't do much user testing of the package, though.

best regards,
