Bug#435678: Status of this package?

2008-04-05 Thread Kartik Mistry
Hi,

I just saw this amazing package working very fine with Ubuntu Gutsy.

What is status of 'Cheese' in Debian. I don't see it in NEW or in
unstable/experimental.

Thanks!

I intend to orphan the libupnp package.

The package description is:
 The Linux SDK for UPnP Devices (libupnp) provides developers with an
 API and open source code for building control points, devices, and
 bridges that are compliant with Version 1.0 of the Universal Plug and
 Play Device Architecture Specification - see http://www.upnp.org/ for
 specifications.
 .
 The libupnp-dev package contains the header files, documentation and
 debug versions of libraries needed for development of programs using
 uPnP.

It's time the package had more love from somebody with more time and
interest. There are a few bugs to be getting on with, and a newer
upstream release.

fusion-icon is a running program that eats ~17MB of RAM (at least on my
system); yes, it is good looking, but its functionalities do not worth
the resources waste, IMHO.
compiz-switch is a simple shell script: you put a launcher on your

No RAM, no CPU wasted.
A simple thing to do a simple task: ever the best idea...

Bug#474392: ITP: celt -- The CELT low-latency audio codec

2008-04-05 Thread Ron
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Ron [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Package name: celt
  Version : 0.3.0
  Upstream Author : Christopher Montgomery, Jean-Marc Valin, Timothy Terriberry,
CSIRO, and other contributors
  URL : http://www.celt-codec.org
  License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : The CELT low-latency audio codec

 CELT is an experimental audio codec for use in low-delay communication.

 CELT stands for Code-Excited Lapped Transform. It applies some of the CELP
 principles, but does everything in the frequency domain, which removes some of
 the limitations of CELP. CELT is suitable for both speech and music and
 currently features:

  * Ultra-low latency (typically from 3 to 9 ms)
  * Full audio bandwidth (44.1 kHz and 48 kHz)
  * Stereo support
  * Packet loss concealment
  * Constant bit-rates from 32 kbps to 128 kbps and above
  * A fixed-point version of the encoder and decoder

 The CELT codec is meant to close the gap between Vorbis and Speex for
 applications where both high quality audio and low delay are desired.

It is currently quite experimental still, both the bitstream format
and the API are subject to change at the present time, but the upstream
authors are ready for people to begin trialling it in real use situations.
It is claimed to already outperform the alternatives for the use cases that
it is optimising for.

Cheers,
Ron

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Simon McVittie [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: unreal-assistant
  Version : 0.0
  Upstream Author : Simon McVittie [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://bzr.debian.org/~smcv-guest/bzr/unreal-assistant
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: sh, perl
  Description : Unreal Tournament packaging helper

 Unreal Tournament is a first-person shooter by Epic Games and Digital
 Extremes. This package contains scripts to construct Debian binary packages
 for various parts of the game.
 .
 You'll need at least the following components:
 .
  * an Unreal Tournament CD-ROM; currently, this has to be CD 1 from the
initial 2-CD retail version (blue packaging, English/French/Italian/Spanish
languages)
  * the Loki Games installer, ut-install-436.run
  * the UTPG version 451 patch, UTPGPatch451.tar.bz2
 .
 This package can also produce Debian binary packages for a number of popular
 mods.

Some more explanation: I intend to have a source package
unreal-assistant, building binary packages unreal-assistant
and unrealtournament. The former will be a packaging helper like java-package
and module-assistant; the latter will basically be a metapackage, which
depends on non-distributable packages created using unreal-assistant.

unrealtournament will also contain launcher scripts and man pages (written
by me, so no copyright issues there).

To make this work I'll also have to resurrect umodpack and libconfig-ini-perl
(which were orphaned and removed from the archive some time ago). I might
rename Config::Ini to Umod::Ini and bundle it with umodpack, though, since it's
not really useful except in connection with the Unreal engine (for
ordinary Windows-style ini files it's been superseded by
Config::IniFiles, but Config::Ini has some Unreal-specific functionality
that I'll need).

The non-distributable packages I plan to have so far are:

unrealtournament-bin:
i386 Linux binaries from Loki Games and utpg.org (required)
unrealtournament-data:
data from CD + patch from Loki Games + patch from UTPG (required)
unrealtournament-l10n-{fr,es,it}: French, Spanish, Italian audio and text
unrealtournament-bonuspacks: official bonus packs

unrealtournament-chaosut: ChaosUT
unrealtournament-excessive: Excessive Overkill
unrealtournament-oldskool: Oldskool Amp'd
unrealtournament-operationnapali: Operation Na Pali
unrealtournament-rocketarena: Rocket Arena

unrealtournament-unreal1:
maps and music from an Unreal 1 CD (can be played using Oldskool Amp'd)

Bug#408258: Abandoning IPP2P - upstream dead

2008-04-05 Thread Rasmus Bøg Hansen
retitle 408258 RFP: ipp2p -- netfilter/iptables module to identify peer-to-peer
(P2P) data in IP traffic
owner 408258 Fabio Pedretti [EMAIL PROTECTED]
thanks

Upstream seems dead - no new releases have seen the light of day since
august 2006. LARTC is supposed to be the official place to discuss
IPP2P, but apart from the occasional bug report or request for help,
nothing seems to happen to IPP2P.

I find it a bad idea to upload a dead project to Debian and withdraw
my ITP.

If anyone wants to take over my ITP, I will gladly hand over my
package, which - in my eyes - should be ready for upload. Feel free to
contact me or download the package:

http://www.zz9.dk/debian/source/ipp2p_0.8.2-1.dsc

l7filter (http://l7-filter.sourceforge.net/) is probably a better
project to upload - it includes the functionality of IPP2P and lots
more.

Regards
/Rasmus

Bug#474398: ITP: libfile-pid-perl -- Perl module for pid file manipulation

2008-04-05 Thread Peter Samuelson

[gregor herrmann]
  File::Pid manages pid files. It creates a pid file, querys the
  process within to discover if it's still running, and removes the
  pid file.

Sigh. We already have Proc::PID::File, and there is Proc::Pidfile
which isn't in Debian. I think it would be rather nice to extend one
of those modules, rather than add a new one.
