Bug#477322: RFA: libopentoken -- OpenToken lexical analysis library for Ada

2008-05-08 Thread Ludovic Brenta
That is excellent news; thank you very much.

First, you should check whether there is a new upstream version or not (I don't
think there is one).

Then, the package needs love for the transition to gnat-4.3. Because of the new
ABI, you must change the soname of the shared library and, consequently, the
name of the binary package containing it (currently libopentoken3.0b).

At your option, you may turn the project file,
/usr/share/ada/adainclude/opentoken.gpr, into a library project file.

Other minor things to do are:
- increase Standards-Version
- create a new debian/compat file
- do not export DH_COMPAT from debian/rules

The build scripts are in a public monotone database[1] with a web interface[2].
If you would like to use it, I can grant you write permission; otherwise you
can use your own version control system.

[1] http://www.ada-france.org/article131.html
[2] http://www.ada-france.org:8081

Would you like me to sponsor the package for you after you take over?

This package provides base files for language localization, and
 contains the libc.mo i18n files.

It is a derivative of the locales package with additions from
http://www.unicode.org/cldr/ (the Common Locale Data Repository).
You may try this package if your language is not well supported by
 the locales package,
 .
In order to have a working localized environment, the needed
locales have to be generated when installing belocs-locales-bin by
answering few debconf questions, and users have to set the LANG
variable in their ~/.profile file unless it is already set in a
 system-wide configuration file.

May I suggest using the machine readable copyright format described at
http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat from the start? Since
the audit is going to be a huge task, it would be good to document it
in as formal way as possible. I made a partial conversion of the
current audit (files, copyright and license sections only) to this
format. You can find it attached to this mail.

At least it works well here with the dpkg from lenny. Looking at the
size of the source package and the potential problems with missing
licenses etc. I don't think the upload to the archive will happen very
soon :)

Bug#454349: [Help] Biomode (Was: Download page of biomode vanished)

2008-05-08 Thread Andreas Tille

On Thu, 8 May 2008, Andreas Tille wrote:

As I said: This web page vanished and upstream authors mail address bounces.
So we are probably upstream ourselves.
I checked in improved packaging at

   svn://svn.debian.org/svn/debian-med/trunk/packages/biomode/trunk/

which builds the package as in biomode_1.002-7 but installation under
emacs (I used emacs as dependency without explicite versioning) throws
_a_ _lot_ _of_ _warnigs_.

Do we have interest / manpower to maintain this code. Perhaps we could
get some help on a debian emacs related list - but I have no idea how to
fix this.

Kind regards

Andreas.

Since you are creating the soname of the lib from the latest changelog
entry, should I also bump this version to 3.0c-6? Or should I decouple
the soname from the changelog at all? What do you suggest?

Thanks a lot, but I'm already using git as version control system.

I leave it up to you. For the users' convenience, it may be marginally better to
decouple, so the binary package name doesn't have too many numbers and dashes
in it :)

Thanks for taking over.

According to debian/changelog and the header in bio-mode.el, I've
done a bit of cleaning up in 2003. Back then, I didn't find
a new upstream version either, so this package is definitely not maintained
by anyone anymore. It has been written in 1997, which is
semi-old for an Emacs package. I wonder if this is still useful these days.
Probably best to ask an emacs user in the field of bioinformatics :-)

It is expected behaviour for an emacs package on Debian
to throw some warnings at installation time, since byte compilation
is not done at package build time, rather at installation time.
Some of these warnings can usually be ignored.

> Do we have interest / manpower to maintain this code.

I do have the capabilities to at least update the elisp so that
it produces less or no warnings at all, but I do
have no interest in working on this since I dont use any files
that biomode is suited for. I basically just adopted it out of a general
love for emacs packages, but since there is no upstream, its kinda hard
to keep up to date without any incentive.

> Perhaps we could get some help on a debian emacs related list - but
> I have no idea how to fix this.

You can prod me about specific things regarding elisp if you like.
I rather think you should find out first if it is worth the hassle
to keep this up to date.

Hi!
I tried to find a sponsor for it but there was no reaction. So I conclude
there's no interest from the debian community.
Either as compiling on a debian system is no big problem or none of the
developers owns an UMTS card for trial and error I think there's no demand for
it...

Spiro is a toolkit for curve design, especially font design, created by
Raph Levien. It is still experimental but very promising.

It contains a new spline implementation based on Euler spirals.

It includes python utilities for manipulating curves, a Bezier
optimizer, tools to do scan segmenting and compositing into letter
classes, suitable for tracing over.

It exports to fontforge SFD and uses Gtk2 and cairo.

The aim of the Ant4eclipse project is to avoid redundancy of Eclipse and Ant
configurations in order to build small but powerful build systems for the
continuous integration process. It provides a set of tasks for the Apache Ant
build tool. This tasks allow developers to use Eclipse configuration directly
from their ant buildfiles. Included are tasks for reading Eclipse's .classpath
file, for computing build order for a set of projects, and for launching Java
applications as defined in Eclipse launch configurations.

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the ITP you have reported or
are involved with.

Your ITP wnpp bug is being closed because of the following reasons:
- It is, as of today, older than 365 days.
- It hasn't had any activity recently.

As this is an automatic procedure, it could of course have something
wrong and probably it would be closing some bugs that are not
intended by owners and submitters (like you) to be closed, for
example if the ITP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a body text like this:

 reopen 414706
 stop

Further comments on the work done in the bug sent to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be truly welcomed.
Anyway, if you have any kind of problems when dealing with
the BTS, feel free to contact me and I'd be more than happy to help
you on this: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

A similar process is being applied to other kind of wnpp bugs.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Description : Translator for transparent access to CVS repositories

cvsfs is a Hurd translator providing transparent (read-only for now)
access to CVS repositories by virtualizing the remote repository in the
local file system. Once translated, the user can browse around in
directories and view file contents by the means of standard GNU tools.
Contrary to a usual cvs checkout, cvsfs only transmits the necessary
data and not the whole source tree.

This is somewhat similar to the cvsfs (http://cvsfs.sourceforge.net/)
project for Linux using FUSE, modulo the usual differences. The binary
package name is yet to be decided, pending a Hurd translator naming
convention decision.

ASCEND is a modelling language and user interface for solving
heirarchical systems of nonlinear equations. It's been used for
modelling chemical processes, chemical reactions, pipe flow problems,
as well a been more generally useful as a quick way to solve 'what if'
questions that are too hard for standard spreadsheet solvers to handle.

ASCEND is licensed under the GNU GPL.

The website is http://ascend.cheme.cmu.edu/

I have been able to produce a basic .deb package for ASCEND that works
on Ubuntu; I'm hoping to improve the packaging here and get it up to
scratch for ultimate inclusion in Debian. Doing the packaging right
will be hard; there are shared libraries and Python and Tcl/Tk
dependencies. Help will be most appreciated.

Cheers

Hello,

This is an automatic mail sent to close the ITP you have reported or

ApacheDS 1.0 is an embeddable, extendable, standards compliant, modern

Software License. Other network protocols like Kerberos and NTP are
supported as well (and even more may be added), but basically (and
especially for this introduction guide) ApacheDS is an LDAP server.

Maybe pkg-java could check and package apacheDS ?
Maybe we should create apacheds1.0 and apacheds1.5 packages, to handle
both stable and unstable branches.

its development and support. The original name of the project was preserved
during the transition process, but has been finally changed to IRRToolSet.
Currently, the RIPE NCC has transfered mainteinance of this toolset to ISC,
who will be accepting code from the community and providing code mainteinance.

It has already been put into the debichem projects SVN:
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/debichem/wnpp/gelemental/?rev=0&sc=0

I'm simply busy atm and dedicate my spare freetime to bug-tracking. In a
week or two I will probably find time to check and upload it.

Bug#405825: ITP: openyahtzee -- classic poker dice game

2008-05-08 Thread Barry deFreese
Just wanted to send an update. I have a package created and it's in the
Games Team SVN. Unfortunately there is a bug with the Roll button that
I cannot get working. It may have to wait until we have wxwidgets2.8.

Thanks,

Barry deFreese

2008-05-08 Thread Barry deFreese

Hi,

Just thought I'd send an update. I have a working package in Games Team
SVN. Also one sitting on mentors. Really needs some testers to see if
it is worth putting in the archive.

Thanks!

Bug#290352: wmakerconf orphaned again

2008-05-08 Thread Kevin B. McCarty
Hi,

The prospective adopter of wmakerconf, Herbert P. Fortes Neto, has
contacted me (I am a previous maintainer and upstream of the package)
privately and told me that he no longer has interest in maintaining it.

He did already make a new upstream release, version 2.12, which is not
yet in Debian. In the interests of including the fixes from that
version into the next Debian release, I plan to make an upload of
wmakerconf 2.12 on behalf of QA. (Note that I am not re-adopting the
package however.)

Although it has not been updated since September 2006, I do not think
this package should be removed from Debian at this time. The popcon
figures are quite high (inst: 801, vote: 143, recent: 36) and as far as
I know the package works fine.

I'll try to look into #466513/#468390 and get more info from the
submitter before making the upload of 2.12. (Submitter of those bugs
appears to be running Ubuntu so I'm not sure why the reports found their
way to the Debian BTS.)

best regards,

I agree.

I met her in Venezuela in November, 2008. She's very enthusiastic
and has been a very good advocate of Software Libre in general and
Debian in particular.

I'm currently working with Vanessa (titacgs on IRC) as her sponsor
of newbiedoc.

Bug#473128: OpenAL-SI Deprecated

2008-05-08 Thread Andres Mejia
Thought I should mention this. The openal upstream are well aware of the
OpenAL Soft library. In fact, the openal upstream have virtually considered
the SI (i.e. openal-0.0.8) deprecated and recommend the OpenAL Soft library
in favor of the SI. Here are some links.
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal-devel/2007-December/004977.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-February/010981.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-March/011019.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-April/011073.html

Here's is the package at mentors.debian.net, for anyone who wants to try it
out.

Bug#473128: OpenAL Soft to become the Default OpenAL Library

2008-05-08 Thread Andres Mejia
Hello,

There is a new library for the OpenAL API which is called OpenAL Soft. This
new library is OpenAL 1.1 compliant, and is considered the replacement for
the deprecated OpenAL SI (openal-0.0.8). Below are some links with the
discussions from upstream about this.
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal-devel/2007-December/004977.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-February/010981.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-March/011019.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal/2008-April/011073.html
http://opensource.creative.com/pipermail/openal-devel/2008-May/005176.html

I am writing to you all because I want your help in testing packages that
build and/or run using the new library. The goal of the Debian Games Team is
to include the OpenAL Soft library in unstable, in time for release with
Lenny. I have already packaged openal-soft for inclusion in experimental. You
can download them from mentors.debian.net.
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/openal-soft/openal-soft_1.3.253-1~experimental0.dsc

I have done some tests of my own. Almost every package I tested worked with
the openal-soft packages without the need to make any changes. The packages
that did need a change were funguloids and chromium. boson is the only
package I know of that needs a fix (no sound with openal-soft) although none
has been found so far.

The list of packages that I tested which build and ran fine with no changes
are:
glest
supertuxkart
antigravitaattori (source: antigrav)
scorched3d
xpilot-ng-client-sdl (source: xpilot-ng)
xpilot-ng-client-x11 (source: xpilot-ng)
flightgear (and dependency simgear)
simgear
vegastrike (version in unstable)
warzone2100
trigger
openarena
btanks
supertux (version in experimental)
tremulous
torcs
mplayer
ogreal (only in Debian games team svn)
warsow

If you test the openal-soft packages, please leave any feedback at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and/or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Andres

Bug#408939: FYI, on iceweaseling old standard

2008-05-08 Thread Nicolas Mailhot
(07:59:29) nim-nim: btw pabs3, I've seen debian packaged old standard
(07:59:42) nim-nim: upstream has asked me to iceweasel it
08:00
(08:01:50) pabs3: looks like we haven't uploaded it into debian proper
yet
(08:01:53) pabs3: whats the issue?
(08:03:06) pabs3: nim-nim: ^^
(08:03:17) nim-nim: pabs3: just that upstream apparently did manuaml
tweaking on fontforge output in proprietary tools
(08:03:39) pabs3: yay
(08:03:41) nim-nim: and thus feels a font rebuilt from source wouldn't
100% represent its design
(08:04:05) nim-nim: and does not want to re-test with every fontforge
release if the tweaking is still needed
(08:04:44) nim-nim: so the author asked me to rename the font if I
rebuilt it from source in Fedora
08:05
(08:05:17) nim-nim: and I put it on my backpile while thinking about a
good iceweasel name
(08:05:32) pabs3: ugh. can you send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
explaining the issue?
(08:05:39) nim-nim: or about good arguments to make upstream change his
mind
(08:06:05) nim-nim: pabs3: let me see if I have the original mail
somewhere
(08:06:27) nim-nim: I personnaly intend to go the iceweasel route when I
find the time to look at it again
(08:06:38) pabs3: ok
(08:06:47) pabs3: ttf-oldweasel :)
(08:07:21) nim-nim: pabs3: I was thinking about old standard iced
(08:07:29) nim-nim: or something like that
(08:07:38) nim-nim: but my naming skillz suck
(08:07:38) pabs3: this is one aspect of the OFL I really *do not* like
(08:07:57) pabs3: hmm
(08:08:39) pabs3: shall I ask on #debian-devel? bound to get a few ideas
from there
(08:09:17) nim-nim: pabs3: sure
(08:09:37) nim-nim: I didn't really tie this loose end so far
08:10
(08:10:07) nim-nim: and IMHO it's still worthwhile to check with the
author if he likes the iceweasel name
(08:10:26) nim-nim: maybe two distros asking for the same thing will
make him change his mind
(08:10:41) pabs3: aye
