Bug#484630: ITP: s5 -- A simple HTML-based presentation system

2008-06-05 Thread Peter Pentchev
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Peter Pentchev [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: s5
  Version : 1.1
Upstream Author : Eric Meyer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/tools/s5/
* License : public domain
Programming Lang: JavaScript, HTML, CSS (yeah I know :)
  Description : A simple HTML-based presentation system

From the S5 website:

 S5: A Simple Standards-Based Slide Show System

S5 is a slide show format based entirely on XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
With one file, you can run a complete slide show and have a
printer-friendly version as well. The markup used for the slides is
very simple, highly semantic, and completely accessible. Anyone with
even a smidgen of familiarity with HTML or XHTML can look at the markup
and figure out how to adapt it to their particular needs. Anyone
familiar with CSS can create their own slide show theme. It's totally
 simple, and it's totally standards-driven.

I've used this system for many presentations in several courses taught
at the University of Sofia and at several FOSS conferences in Bulgaria.
I'm also the maintainer of the FreeBSD port of s5, where I added
a simple shell script for easier creation of new presentations.

And yes, I know that none of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS are commonly
considered programming languages, but somehow it feels better than just
putting none :)

Bug#482576: (re-)packaging ntfs-config for Debian

2008-06-05 Thread Philipp Hübner
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,
I'm thinking of (re-)packaging ntfs-config for Debian.
See [1].

So far I haven't really tested the software myself, but I will do it soon.

The link to the modified pmount-package on [2] doesn't work, so I
probably won't be able to use external devices with ntfs-config, right?
Furthermore I'd like to know what kind of change of pmount it is/was and
if it could be added to pmount via upstream.
If not, it will be a problem for packaging ntfs-config for Debian.

Anyway, if I do the packaging, I'd appreciate to get the
debian-directory you used for building the ubuntu-packages, because this
way I wouldn't have to start from scratch.

If neccessary I could also help with the German translation of ntfs-config.

Kind regards,
Philipp Huebner

Please follow the naming convention of the other festival packages. Name
the source package festival-catalan or festival-ca, and the binary

To me the bogomips calculator seems to be outdated (see [1]).

Furthermore the statement in [2] speaks against using this program.

Nevertheless I downloaded, compiled and installed it on Debian Lenny:

As you can see, it didn't work on my laptop (P4 3,06 GHz HT).

I suggest tagging this bug as 'wontfix' and closing it.

Bug#478232: (re-)packaging diffuse for Debian

2008-06-05 Thread Derrick Moser
Philipp,

That would be great. I'm not a Debian packaging guru so the existing .deb is
pretty much the minimum required to get it working.

Please let me know if there are any upstream changes I can do to make
maintaining the .deb package easier (signing releases, applying patches, etc.).

Cheers,
Derrick

from SAGE). However, I uploaded because I want to be sure that we do not
miss the Lenny release freeze deadline.

If you're interested in maintaining this package in the long term, you
should feel free to change its maintainer to yourself (and do any other
auditing you want to do) and re-upload.

Bug#389591: Freeswitch debian package

2008-06-05 Thread Juan Manuel Coronado Z .

Hi,

I haven´t been able to work very much on this package.

As you just said, the first stable version was recently published.

I'm still interested in working on this package for Debian, but it needs a
lot of work and unfortunely for me, time to do it is something I don't
seem to have in the short term.

If someone wants to work on the FS package, it might find an easier way
than when I first made the ITP.

FS it's a great software and deserves the best packaging.

Hi,

Is there any progress in packaging it, please? Do you have an WIP

I notice that upstream has a debian/ directory and they give
instructions to build a package at
http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Installation_Guide#Debian_Linux - has
anyone tested this to see if it is suitable for inclusion in the archive?

Hi Nelson,

I started packaging it in the Games Team, but right now it's not the highest in
my priorities list. It shouldn't be too difficult anyway, but of course any
help is welcome :)

I hope to have it finished soon.

Bug#484717: ITP: gibak -- A better backup system based on Git

2008-06-05 Thread Paul Hedderly
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Paul Hedderly [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: gibak
  Version : 0.3.0
Upstream Author : Mauricio Fernandez [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://eigenclass.org/hiki/gibak-backup-system-introduction
* License : GPL = v2 and LGPL v2.1
  Programming Lang: OCaml and bash
Description : A better backup system based on Git

As far as standard tools go, however, git provides a very nice infrastructure
that can be used to build your own system, to wit:
 * it is more space-efficient than most incremental backup schemes, since it
does file compression and both textual *and* binary deltas (in particular, it's
better than solutions relying on hardlinks or incremental
backups à la tar/cpio)
 * its transport mechanism is more efficient than rsync's
 * it is fast: recoving your data is *faster* than cp -a
 * you keep the full revision history
 * powerful toolset with a rich vocabulary

Gibak retains all the advantages from Git, and supplements it in some key areas:

 * metadata support
 * management of submodules (nested Git repositories)
 * automation of common operations; for instance, a commit consists of several
steps:
o determining if some files which were committed earlier are ignored now and
removing them from the index
o adding new and modified files to the index
o registering new git submodules and copying them to a special area under
.git
o committing changes in the index
o compaction and optimization of the repository

[ I will push a git repo onto colab-maint so if anyone wants to work as a team
on this
then just shout - especially if you are an OCaml wiz. ]

Description: POP3 mail retriever
mpop is a fast and simple fetchmail replacement to retrieve mail from POP3
servers. Its main features are header based mail filtering, multiple
authentication methods, TLS encrypted connections or delivery.
 .
There are a few things mpop can do that fetchmail can't or that it
 does better:
o mpop never ever tries to parse mail information except for the
envelope-from address, which is the bare minimum that it has to do.
o mpop never ever alters mail messages except for adding a Received
header, which is the bare minimum that it has to do.
o mpop uses several techniques (including pipelining) to reduce the
POP3 protocol overhead. It is therefore much faster than fetchmail.
o By default, mpop stores the mail UIDs (unique ids) in one file per
account. You can poll different mail accounts in parallel.
o The progress output is nicer ;-)
o You can pipe the headers of a mail through a filter that decides if
the mail should be downloaded, skipped, or deleted. This allows to
delete junk mail from a POP3 server without downloading the entire
message.
o mpop can deliver mails directly to mbox and maildir mail folders.

Bug#484545: Keen to help

2008-06-05 Thread Timothy Goddard
Hi Romain,

A couple of months ago I set up an internal MediaWiki install for the company
I work for and moved across all the pages from the previous MoinMoin wiki. As
part of this I created a bunch of macros and built a debian package to manage
them using the mediawiki-extensions layout to manage active extensions. As a
result I am already familiar with the package and how it works.

I would be really keen to help out with the mediawiki-extensions package. If
any of the other macros we created appeal to you I also have permission to
distribute most of them. Having a DD as a boss is great for that!

This would be my first contribution to Debian but I am familiar with packaging
Debian packages and have made packages for my own use for other PHP projects
before. I am very keen to give something back to the Debian community and
perhaps work my way up towards becoming a DD myself in the future.

Cheers,

Tim

 git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/lib/drm-snapshot
 git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

They should appear on Gitweb in a few hours. Let me know if I've done
anything silly; I'm not used to this particular Git workflow.
