Bug#486192: darcs-server: package available somewhere?

2008-06-25 Thread Trent W. Buck
I've CC'd the RFH bug on the assumption that this conversation should
be publicly visible; I hope you don't mind.

You should be able to "apt-get install darcs-server"; the unstable
(sid) distribution carries 2.0.0-5, which is the latest Debian package
I've made of it. In future, I expect to ask tester(s) to grab the
version I upload to mentors.debian.net and test that, so that they can
test it before it enters Sid. Otherwise I can just upload packages to
Sid and I'll rely on Sid users in general to spot and report problems.

Just to clarify: the debian darcs package I've adopted generates a
darcs-server .deb as well as the darcs .deb. darcs-server is split
into a separate package because it requires a web server, and it'd be
annoying to have to install apache just to run darcs from the command
line.

Since I'm basically giving the darcs-server .debs I upload my "stamp
of approval", I'm nervous that I might break it without knowing.
That's why I filed the RFH.

I know delvelopers who own UMTS cards (even the mighty ftpmasters
do ;) ) so I think there should be interest (even if it's Qt software).
Would you like to share you packaging with me? Sam's version at mentors

If I can get a nice packaging, and Sam and you do not forbid me to take
over the ITPs I'd like to try umtsmon into Debian - you two are welcome
to co-maintain it of course :)

2008-06-25 Thread Jack Coulter
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

I will be packaging the latest SVN version of ioquake3 with baseq3
specific menu entries and launcher scripts, it will depend on the
existing quake3-data (installer) package. Essentially it will allow
owners of a copy of the commercial quake3 data an easy method to play
the original game on Debian systems. The source package will be named
quake3, building binary packages quake3 and quake3-server.

I don't mind--I only knocked together a package for a friend anyway; I
don't actually have a UMTS modem myself.

One enhancement that I was unable to get working is the ability to
launch pppd as root, but keep the rest of the program running as the
current user. The only reason the whole thing is run as root at the
moment is to satisfy pppd's (outdated?) requirement that, if pppd is not
run as root, the remote end of the connection must authenticate itself
to pppd. Anyway, expect a bug report about this once the package appears
in Debian. :)

IIRC, none of aspell or hunspell can handle pseudo-charsets like 'a or TeX
explicit chars \'a, \'{a}, while ispell can, if the aff file has them
declared, so there is no full replacement for ispell.

Instead of removing ispell I would consider making ispell and ispell dicts
priority extra instead of optional. Note that iamerican, ispell and ibritish
have now the wrong standard priority (all them should already be optional).
You sent the ITA just after my message, so I re-add, in case you missed it

All iamerican, ispell and ibritish packages must have optional priority, not
standard, only wamerican is intended to be standard (and currently also
dictionaries-common because wamerican depends on it, but I expect this to
change after lenny). See dictionaries-common policy,

 http://dict-common.alioth.debian.org/

Apart from looking at the policy document above, you should subscribe to the
dictionaries-common-dev mailing list

http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/dict-common-dev/

That is the development discussion on dictionaries-common for Debian. Is a
very low traffic list, so should not be a problem to your mailbox.

Welcome to spellchecking,

Bug#487941: RFP: spicebird -- a suite for collaborative work, built on Thunderbird and Sunbird

2008-06-25 Thread Fred Jendrzejewski

Package: wnpp
Severity: RFP

This program has a clean interface to organize daily work using tabs. It
is an ergonomic rearrangment and extension of the Thunderbird and
Lightning/Sunbird. The licences of the code are exactly the same like
for Thundbird. (MPL, GPL). It is a really young program and still in a
beta. The 0.4 was released in April and the 0.7 will be released in
July. As the final version is intended to be released at the end of the
year, it seems to be an interesting candidate for the experimental version.

[could probably sound harsh, but isn't ment as such] i suggest to
discuss that (on dict-common-dev) after lenny has been released,
if/how/when etc. a removal will happen (or not).

No problem, I did not considered it as harsh, and I am aware that decreasing
the number of spellchecking engines is something desirable.

Related to the above, I had in mind that something to deal with it was
intended in aspell. Looking again at the TODO list in the aspell www page,

-
To Do

* Create a generic filter to handle multi-character letters such as "a or
\"a for ä. This filter should make use of the already exiting normalization
code if possible. [Done for Aspell 0.61]
-

So we may safely drop ispell in the future (aspell 0.61 is only the
development version). To be discussed anyway in case something else is
missing.

Cheers,

  Version : 0.10
  Upstream Author : Kang-min Liu <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL :
http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/G/GU/GUGOD/Graph-Writer-GraphViz-0.10.tar.gz

  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : GraphViz Writer for Graph object

Graph::Writer::GraphViz is a class for writing out a Graph object with GraphViz
module. All GraphViz formats should be supported without a problem.

Unlike other Graph::Writer modules, this module provide an extra parameter
'-format' to new() method, in order to save different format. Other supported
GraphViz parameters are -layout, -ranksep, -shape, -fontsize, -arrowsize.

Bug#487975: ITP: resize-gd -- resizes images using the gd-library

2008-06-25 Thread markus schnalke
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: markus schnalke <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: resize-gd
  Version : 0.2
  Upstream Author : markus schnalke <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://prog.marmaro.de/resize-gd
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: C
Description : resizes images using the gd-library

About the program:
--

The program has two modes:
* aspect ratio of the images is preserved and only shrinking is done. Smaller
  images remain unmodified.
* the images are resized to match a specific size. The images probably get
  stretched and enlarged.

Only JPEG and PNG files are supported. The filetype is detected by the
filename suffix which has to be `.jpg', `.jpeg' or `.png'. Unsupported files
get skipped.

All resizing is done in-place.

The idea behind:
--

This program is meant to be a small(er) alternative to the `mogrify -resize'
command of ImageMagick. Mainly because ImageMagick has lots of dependencies,
while the GD-Library has less.

`resize-gd' is only for resizing images, not for doing all the other fancy
stuff, that ImageMagick (or GraphicsMagick) can do.

I wrote this program, because I had to install over 80MB on a fresh Debian
installation, just to get a simple web gallery generator (`genwebgallery') to
run. This came from its dependency on ImageMagick. (GraphicsMagick wouldn't
have been better.)

That is way to much, for the simple task that needs to be done: image resizing.

I haven't found a small program that simply does image resizing. So I wrote
that one.
It uses the GD library, which is only about 1/10 in size, compared to
ImageMagick.

The quality seems to be slightly worse, but still good enough for most tasks
(especially thumbnail generation).

Bug#487997: ITP: lwt -- Cooperative light-weight thread library for OCaml

  Upstream Author : Jerome Vouillon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://ocsigen.org/install/lwt
* License : LGPL + exceptions (OpenSSL, OCaml)
  Programming Lang: OCaml
Description : Cooperative light-weight thread library for OCaml

Lwt is a library of cooperative threads implemented in monadic
style. With respect to preemptive threads, cooperative threads are
not using a scheduler to distribute processor time between
threads. Instead of this, each thread must tell the others that he
wants to let them work.

Previous versions of Lwt were shipped with Ocsigen (already packaged
in Debian). Lwt is now shipped separately upstream, and the next
release of Ocsigen will need this new version of Lwt.

Description: Video deinterlacer plugins from the DScaler project
DScaler is a Win32 application that captures video, processes it, and
scales it for presentation. It implements highly sophisticated
algorithms that work in real-time, for high-quality video images.
 .
The libdscaler package contains Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) from the
DScaler application. They are able to:
  * Deinterlace video source, from both cameras and console games;
  * Detect and remove 2:2 pulldown (PAL) and 3:2 pulldown (NTSC) for
movies and filmed television programs;
  * Reduce video noise on analog sources; and
  * Reduce jitter and other video timing anomalies.
 .
Currently, these libraries are used as plugins by the tvtime package,
 dynamically loaded using Wine.

them in programs, as is the case for an XPLC-enabled library.

Description: PPP dialer with built-in intelligence
WvDial sacrifices some of the flexibility of programs like "chat" in order
to make your dialup configuration easier. When you install this package,
your modem will be detected automatically and you need to specify just
three parameters: the phone number, username, and password. WvDial knows
enough to dial with most modems and log in to most servers without any
 other help.
 .
In particular, you no longer need a "chat script" to handle the most common
 situations.

Bug#486127: ITP: sock -- make a customized traffic over network

2008-06-25 Thread Eriberto
Hello Laurent and Steve,

Thanks for your comments. Sock is a program to test concepts in
networks. It was developed by Richard Stevens, a great writer.

Sock has specific syntax and features as other programs. Then, my
purpose is make available the program used in book "TCP/IP Illustrated
- Vol I" [1] to students and readers. The students need the exact
program to reproduce the examples. Besides, this package is more one
option to users.

Thanks a lot!

Best regards,

Eriberto - Brazil

kthxbye

Beagle depends on this, and bugs in galago-sharp are causing crashes in
beagle, so it should probably come under the pkg-cli-libs umbrella.

If anyone out there particularly wants to help out, consider joining the
pkg-cli-libs team. :)
