Bug#491008: ITP: qutim -- new instant messenger written in C++ and Qt4

It use pure qt, not kdelibs.
It use qt4 (I didn't follow kopete develop, may be they switching to
kde4, but all I seen was kde3 and qt3 based).
It have light interface similar to QIP or Miranda. Some people miss
good-looking im-client on free OSs.

btw qutim still doesn't support jabber :(, but they are working on this.

It would be nice if the description would contain information why the
software was forked, i.e. what are the differences between those two?

Bug#491024: ITP: MUMPS -- MUltifrontal Massively Parallel sparse direct Solver

2008-07-15 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: mumps
Version: 4.7.3
Author: Patrick Amestoy et al.
License: public domain
URL: http://mumps.enseeiht.fr/
Description: MUltifrontal Massively Parallel sparse direct Solver

MUMPS implements a direct solver for large sparse linear systems, with a
particular focus on symmetric positive definite matrices. It can
operate on distributed matrices e.g. over a cluster. It has Fortran and
C interfaces, and can interface with ordering tools such as METIS.

Version 9.3 of Code_Aster (ITP 458812) uses MUMPS, so this package will
play a role in that packaging effort.

Nice, I've joined collab-maint (my username is sargentd-guest).
I'm not yet too familiar with holding packages in Git (worked mostly
with SVN until now) but git-buildpackage seems easy to use. Still,
pointers to nice docs highly welcome :)

Looking forward to work with you :)

Description : fast ftp folder synchronization

ftpsync provides fast synchronization of folders on ftp sites. It uses
sha1sums stored in text files to find changed files and uploads only them.
It also removes obsolete files on the ftp server and creates/removes folders.

Maybe I will change the name to something more unique, as there are a
 lot of programs called ftpsync.

Code is already available and working. See the launchpad site for the
 bzr branch.

 Short usage instruction:
  - Enter the folder where you saved your site
  - Run ftpsync init and answer the questions
  - Run ftpsync ci to upload the files to the server

Bug#490100: Please consider a free license for triangle

2008-07-15 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Dear Dr. Shewchuk,

Thank you for making your triangle program source code broadly
available. I use it with the Open CASCADE CAD toolkit, which in turn is
used in FreeCAD and the Salomé FEA pre/post-processing framework.

I am packaging triangle for Debian GNU/Linux, a distribution of the
Linux kernel and a large amount of related software. Debian can include
"non-free" software with restrictions such as yours which forbids
selling the triangle software. However, we would prefer it if software
were free, a.k.a. open source, i.e. conforming to the Debian Free
Software Guidelines [1], which are nearly identical to the Open Source
Definition [2].

 [1] http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines
 [2] http://www.opensource.org/docs/osd

If you are interested in keeping triangle and derivatives from use in
proprietary forks, I can recommend the GNU General Public License [3] or
the GNU Lesser General Public License [4] (the latter requires that
modifications to the code remain free but does not restrict linking with
other libraries or binaries). If you want others to be able to use
triangle in proprietary software but require that they preserve your
copyright and attribution, then the revised BSD license [5] is a good
choice. With any of these licenses, you keep the copyright, and can
license the code to anyone as you wish (e.g. to a proprietary software
company under a separate license etc.). And of course, none of these
licenses would prevent one from using triangle in a consulting capacity.

 [3] http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html
 [4] http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html
 [5] http://www.debian.org/misc/bsd.license

Thank you again for this wonderful and versatile code. If you have the
time (and funding/inclination), it would be terrific to have a 3-D
version! Until then, I will remain a happy triangle user.

Sincerely,
Adam Powell

The font might be duplicated, but I checked its licensing information
and it is free. (I thought maybe if it were a simple font I could make
one up for the game.) Here is the text information that the TrueType
font Hurryup.ttf contains:

===

Created by: Ray Larabie

Creation Year: 2004

Copyright: © 1998 Ray Larabie. This font is freeware. Read attached
text file for details. Info & updates visit www.larabiefonts.com.
Donations gratefully accepted at www.larabiefonts.com/donation.html.
Also visit my commercial type foundry at www.typodermic.com. This font
was updated in 2004.

Notice/Description: accents added in 2004. Larabie Fonts is able to
offer unique free fonts through the generous support of visitors to the
site. Making fonts is my full-time job and every donation, in any
amount, enables me to continue running the site and creating new fonts.
If you would like to support Larabie Fonts visit www.larabiefonts.com
for details.

===

This appears at http://www.larabiefonts.com/help.html -- "Embedding
Larabie Fonts in any format is free of charge and you don't need our
permission for embedding them in your software." The site does state
that the use granted for his TrueType fonts don't apply to OpenType
fonts. It could be that the font collection is non-free (I don't have
the package at hand) -- he does mention that he didn't create all the
fonts in his massive collection.

He says he'll accept donations, but states that the font is freeware
(not shareware).

Bug#490956: RFP: libconfig-augeas-perl -- Edit configuration files through Augeas C library

2008-07-15 Thread Dominique Dumont
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: libconfig-augeas-perl
  Version : 0.201
  Upstream Author : Dominique Dumont <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/perldoc?Config::Augeas
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: C, Perl
Description : Edit configuration files through Augeas C library

Augeas is a library and command line tool that focuses on the most
basic problem in handling Linux configurations programmatically:
editing actual configuration files in a controlled manner.

To that end, Augeas exposes a tree of all configuration settings
(well, all the ones it knows about) and a simple local API for
manipulating the tree. Augeas then modifies underlying configuration
files according to the changes that have been made to the tree; it
does as little modeling of configurations as possible, and focuses
exclusively on transforming the tree-oriented syntax of its public API
to the myriad syntaxes of individual configuration files.

This module provides an object oriented Perl interface for Augeas
configuration edition library with a more "perlish" API than Augeas C
counterpart.

[ Note: most of the description was snatched from Augeas web site
http://augeas.net ]

Config::Augeas build depends on libaugeas-dev

Bug#490922: RFP: adeona -- A Free, Open Source System for Helping Track and Recover Lost and Stolen Laptops

2008-07-15 Thread Carlos Segura Perales
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: adeona
  Version : 0.2.1
Upstream Author : University of Washington
* URL : http://adeona.cs.washington.edu/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C
Description : A Free, Open Source System for Helping Track and Recover
Lost and Stolen Laptops

Adeona is the first Open Source system for tracking the location of your lost
or stolen laptop that does not rely on a proprietary, central service. This
means that you can install Adeona on your laptop and go — there's no need to
rely on a single third party. What's more, Adeona addresses a critical privacy
goal different from existing commercial offerings. It is privacy-preserving.
This means that no one besides the owner (or an agent of the owner's choosing)
can use Adeona to track a laptop. Unlike other systems, users of Adeona can
rest assured that no one can abuse the system in order to track where they use
their laptop.

Adeona is designed to use the Open Source OpenDHT distributed storage service
to store location updates sent by a small software client installed on an
owner's laptop. The client continually monitors the current location of the
laptop, gathering information (such as IP addresses and local network topology)
that can be used to identify its current location. The client then uses strong
cryptographic mechanisms to not only encrypt the location data, but also ensure
that the ciphertexts stored within OpenDHT are anonymous and unlinkable. At the
same time, it is easy for an owner to retrieve location information.

Bug#490907: ITP: openturns -- Open source initiative to Treat Uncertainties, Risks?N Statistics

2008-07-15 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

--- Please fill out the fields below. ---

   Package name: openturns
Version: 0.12.0
Upstream Author:
  - Électricité de France (EDF), the main electricity generation and
   distribution company in France;
  - European Aeronautic Defence and Space company (EADS), a large European
aerospace corporation,
  - Phimeca, an Engineering Consultancy company specialised in Structural
Reliability analysis.
URL: http://trac.openturns.org/
License: LGPL
Description:

OpenTURNS is an Open source initiative to Treat Uncertainties, Risks’N
Statistics in a structured industrial approach.
Since the beginning of 2005, a partnership of three companies has been working
on building together a tool designed to perform uncertainty treatment and
reliability analyses.

OpenTURNS is a Unix/Linux software with three main components :

 - a scientific C++ library including an internal data model and algorithms
dedicated to the treatment of uncertainties. The main function of that library
is giving to specific applications all the functionalities needed to treat
uncertainties in studies. Targeted users are all engineers who want to
introduce the probabilistic dimension in their so far deterministic studies.

 - an independent application with a graphical user interface. This
application
was built to become the work environment for the specialist of the treatment
of uncertainties. Targeted users are once again industrial practitioners:
those who identify the treatment of uncertainties as a full task, which can be
spread to multiple engineering domains.

- a python module with high level operators in the probabilistic and
statistical
field. The interest of this language is to be both a powerful scientific
language (capable of using C++ libraries), and a user friendly interpreted
language like Matlab(tm) one. This python module was designed to make the
development of prototypes easier (in order to test new algorithms and methods
for example), to become an easy-to-use support for educational works, … This
module intends to become a natural environment capable of integrating new
developments within the field of uncertainty and sensitivity analysis. The
targeted users are here research centres and the academic community.
