Bug#494102: ITP: podlators-perl -- Convert POD data to various other formats

2008-08-07 Thread Niko Tyni
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Niko Tyni [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: podlators-perl
  Version : 2.1.2
  Upstream Author : Russ Allbery
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/podlators/
* License : GPL-1+ | Artistic
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Convert POD data to various other formats

 This package contains Pod::Man and Pod::Text modules which convert POD
 input to *roff source output, suitable for man pages, or plain text,
 along with the pod2man and pod2text driver scripts. It also includes
 several subclasses of Pod::Text for formatted output to terminals with
 various capabilities.
 .
 Note that the Perl core distribution (supplied in the perl package)
 already includes older versions of these modules and scripts. Please
 depend on this package only if you specifically need the newer
 features, for instance the improved UTF-8 support.

This will be maintained under the pkg-perl umbrella. The pod2* scripts
are handled by diverting the Perl core versions away.

As discussed on the debian-perl list, I'm hoping for a freeze exception
to get the 'pod2man --utf8' functionality into lenny.

The package isn't named libpodlators-perl, both because there's no module
called Podlators inside and because the pod2* scripts turn this into a
non-library package.

 By all means. Here's a patch that adds support for editing application

 stuff like the .desktop file that puts assogiate in the gnome control

Thanks, I'll have a look at your patch and what you did.

Bug#470365: Licenses incompatibility (GPL V3 + OpenSSL) ?

2008-08-07 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

I noticed a dependency on OpenSSL (libssl-dev) on this package which is
about a GPL V3 program.

Isn't this a problematic license conflict for an official Debian
package ?

Apart from that, I'm evaluating the package at the present time and will
report any other problems / patches found.

Bug#470365: Improved package

2008-08-07 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

I have reviewed and I think I have improved slightly your package for
libapache2-mod-auth-cas.

You'll find my proposed source package at :
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache2-mod-auth-cas/

Here's details of the changes I made (changelog obviously needs updating
more than I did) :

* Now use apxs2's -i option to install the libs in the right place at
package contruction
* cleaned up the README.Debian to reflect that package's contents
* moved chown on cookies dir into a postinst (safer for package
construction)
* cleaned-up files names inside debian/ : no longer the
libapache2-mod-auth-cas prefix for maintainer's scripts/files
* no-longer configure+build twice when dpkg-buildpackage-ing
(configure-stamp use)
* removed incorrect watch file

I hope it will be better like that, and you'll be interested by these
improvements.

Tell me what you think.

Bug#470365: Improved package

2008-08-07 Thread Michele Baldessari
Hi Olivier,

On Thu, 2008-08-07 at 18:04 +0200, Olivier Berger wrote:
 I have reviewed and I think I have improved slightly your package for
 libapache2-mod-auth-cas.

Thanks ;)

 You'll find my proposed source package at :
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache2-mod-auth-cas/

You started off -2 which was a bit behind (-5 on
http://michele.pupazzo.org/debian). Nonetheless most of your point
remain valid.

 Here's details of the changes I made (changelog obviously needs updating
 more than I did) :

 * Now use apxs2's -i option to install the libs in the right place at
 package contruction

This gives me an error because axps tries to write in /usr/lib/... Is
there a specific version that understands AXPS_OPTIONS? A quick grep and
google didn't turn up anything interesting.

 * cleaned up the README.Debian to reflect that package's contents

Included.

 * moved chown on cookies dir into a postinst (safer for package
 construction)

Thanks, embarassing leftover of mine ;)

 * cleaned-up files names inside debian/ : no longer the
 libapache2-mod-auth-cas prefix for maintainer's scripts/files

Is there a policy suggesting this? I kind of prefer the prefix, because
when you have to split the source package in more binary packages you
already have a clean separation. But I really don't have a strong
opinion about this.

 * no-longer configure+build twice when dpkg-buildpackage-ing
 (configure-stamp use)

Included.

 * removed incorrect watch file

That I had removed in more recent uploads.

I uploaded -6 on my repo on my homepage.

 I hope it will be better like that, and you'll be interested by these
 improvements.

 Tell me what you think.

Thanks for your thorough review, Olivier.

Regarding the GPL points you make, you are correct. That is one (other
one is below) reason I never really pushed anything forward into debian
(the ITP is in fact not mine). I still have to get off my butt and ask
upstream (Matt Smith) about it.

The other point, is that I think it makes sense to push this in Debian
only if the CAS server is also present as a package.
If you feel like landing in a hand, we can set up something on alioth to
get this in shape.

regards,
Michele

 This module allows you to tie Perl associative arrays (hashes) to SQL

 individual fields can be set or retrieved.

Owner: Tim Retout [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: libhtml-stripscripts-perl
  Version : 1.04
  Upstream Author : Clinton Gormley [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/HTML-StripScripts/
* License : Artistic | GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : Strip scripting constructs out of HTML

HTML::StripScripts strips scripting constructs out of HTML, leaving as
much non-scripting markup in place as possible. This allows web
applications to display HTML originating from an untrusted source
without introducing XSS (cross site scripting) vulnerabilities.

You will probably use HTML::StripScripts::Parser rather than using
this module directly - see the libhtml-stripscripts-parser-perl
package.

The process is based on whitelists of tags, attributes and attribute
values. This approach is the most secure against disguised scripting
constructs hidden in malicious HTML documents.

As well as removing scripting constructs, this module ensures that
there is a matching end for each start tag, and that the tags are
properly nested.

   .
   Using Pkglab package lists can be loaded and installability tests can
   be performed to check whether given package combinations are
   co-installable or not, according to inter-package relationships.
   .
   Package repositories can be input in the Dose base format, which can be
   generated starting from popular .deb and .rpm package list formats
   using the ceve parser (see the ceve Debian package).

The package is being worked on at
git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-ocaml-maint/packages/pkglab.git

Cheers.
