Bug#487263: atmailopen 1.02+dfsg+svn48-1: Please translate debconf PO for the package atmailopen

2008-09-01 Thread Christian Perrier
Quoting Giuseppe Iuculano ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):
 Dear Debian I18N people,

I would like to know if some of you would be interested in translating
 atmailopen.

 atmailopen already includes it.po sv.po.
So do not translate it to these languages (the translators will be
 contacted separately).

 languagetranslated fuzzy untranslated
 -
   it 7
   sv 2 5

Two small remarks:

Why not pick up the translations from another package that asks the
very same questions (choose web server to configure, restart
webserver)? No name comes to mind right now but probably halp of the
various Web services things have such debconf templates. What you
would need is just picking up debian/po/*.po files and run
debconf-updatepo. You would end up with fuzzy translations but
that would help translators to avoid reinventing the wheel over and
over.

Have you asked the debian-l10n-italian mailing list for review as I
guess you translated the file yourself? Experience shows that
translators often have comments on translations done by
developers. Not errors, indeed, but writing style suggestions, quite
often.

Description : source for RT2860 wireless adapter kernel module

RT2860 is a wireless adapter found particularly in the ASUS EeePC model
901 and above. The package contains the source of a Linux kernel module
  for it.

Would you like to include this in the pkg-ralink project on Alioth?

It is currently under debian-eeepc Git[1], but I find what you say
very attractive, especially if it is extended a bit:

[1] http://git.debian.org/?p=debian-eeepc/rt2860.git;a=summary

Would you like to take over the package? I'd gladly put it in the
hands of people having experience dealing with ralink-based cards.

What do the rest of Debian EeePC Team thinks?

The package is as ready for 2.6.26 as I can get it without digging
deep about moving the firmware into a separate package.

There may be some licensing problems and this is why I CC
  debian-legal.
All the sources are licensed under GPL-2+, except one file,
include/firmware.h, which is generated from a binary blob and contains
  the following notice:
 snip
I did not yet check if this code is actually linked in the GPL-2+
module, but have a bad feeling it it does. Would a compiled GPL source,
  including firmware.h be even distributable?

Possibly not. The module source code should go in contrib with the blob
and firmware.h removed. The blob should go in the firmware-ralink
binary package built from the firmware-nonfree source package.

Or, the madwifi way - put only -source package in non-free and let
users build the module with module-assistant.

Perhaps the module can be changed to load its firmware from
  external
file or even not need that nasty firmware.h (there are traces of
support to other hardware and that firmware may be for them).

This should not be too hard. Look at rt73 for an example of how
this has been done in an existing Ralink driver.

Moving the firmware away would also make it possible for a -modules
package to be made part of linux-modules-extra, right? That would be a
good thing.

Please not. Unlike madwifi, the ralink drivers are actually free, only
the device needs the non-free firmware.

Moving the firmware away would also make it possible for a -modules
package to be made part of linux-modules-extra, right? That would be a
 good thing.

As long as all devices that the driver supports need non-free firmware,
the -source and -modules packages should go to contrib, because the user
has to install the firmware (and if Debian can distribute it in
non-free, the driver should recommend the firmware package).

I don't have any of the hardware this supports, or any 802.11n access
point I could test against (though maybe other maintainers do). There
would need to be someone in the team to take responsibility for that.
But the Ralink drivers have a lot in common (bugs, terrible coding
style...) so I should at least have some familiarity with the code.

As it is, it could be built by linux-modules-nonfree-2.6. Separate
the firmware and the module can be built by linux-modules-contrib-2.6.

example if the ITP is still of your interest, or there has been
some kind of activity around it. In that case, please reopen the
bug, do it, DO IT NOW! (I don't want to be blamed because of
mass closing and not let people know that they can easily reopen
their bugs ;-).

To re-open it, you simply have to mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
with a body text like this:

This extension will display the current status of your IMAP quota in
thunderbird's statusbar and will warn you when you reach a
configurable limit.

 - It will only work if your mail server has an IMAP quota set.

 - It only works with IMAP quotas and servers advertizing the quota
status via IMAP (the IMAP GETQUOTA command). Some mail servers have
disk quotas and will send email when your mailbox reach its quota.
That's not a real IMAP quota system and the imap server might not
advertize it.

It leverages OpenOffice.org, which provides arguably the best

available today.

Note from me:
A command line conversion between odp and pdf is really handy and we
should try to provide it to our users. I hope someone with java
packaging experience will tackle this.

Joachim

PostScript file and place and clip labels for specified label size. If
multiple input files are given LabelNation can serve as a back-end for an
automated mailing list label generator. LabelNation contains many pre-defined
label configurations for standard label sheets and is highly processive making
it suitable for large label preparation runs.

Description : global pairwise alignments with logarithmic and affine gap
costs

Ngila is an application that will find the best alignment of a pair
of sequences using log-affine gap costs, which are the most
 biologically realistic gap costs.
 .
Ngila implements the Miller and Myers (1988) algorithm in order to
find a least costly global alignment of two sequences given homology
costs and a gap cost. Two versions of the algorithm are
included: holistic and divide-and-conquer. The former is faster but
the latter utilizes less memory. Ngila starts with the
divide-and-conquer method but switches to the holistic method for
subsequences smaller than a user-established threshold. This improves
its speed without substantially increasing memory requirements. Ngila
also allows users to assign costs to end gaps that are smaller than
costs for internal gaps. This is important for aligning using the
 free-end-gap method.
 .
Ngila is published in Cartwright RA Bioinformatics 2007
 23(11):1427-1428; doi:10.1093/bioinformatics/btm095

I'm willing to help too, could we make a team to work on this package ?

The game comes in two versions (which are network-compatible):
 - 3D version destined to computer gamers. The 3D version is
graphically more beautiful, as it takes avantages of the nice
cellshading algorithms of the Soya 3D engine.
 - 2D version, currently supporting 640x480 and 800x480 resolutions.
It has been designed mainly for hand-held devices (Sharp Zaurus,

Bug#426259: Bug #426259: ITP: springframework -- layered Java/J2EE application framework

2008-09-01 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Hi Damien,

I'm willing to help too, could we make a team to work on this package ?

Glad you are asking. I have already uploaded a very rough first version
of the Debian package to mentors.debian.net:

- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libspring-2.5-java
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libspring-2.5-java/libspring-2.5-java_2.5.5-1.dsc

I have identified most - if not all - build/runtime dependencies that are
already included in the Debian archive (see debian/control).

Unfortunately, there are still loads of dependencies not in the archive, some
of which probably never will (e.g. SUN licence, does it permit redistribution
at all?)
But those that can be packaged should probably be packaged soon. Maybe you want
to take this task? I will compile a list and attach it to this task.

Regards,

Andreas

Balazar III is a dungeon adventure game with multiplayer support. As
you explore the dungeon, you'll gain magical objects, experience and
powers, but also... curses ! Balazar III is based on the (French)
comics Le guide Balazar du mauvais sorcier (Balazar's guide to bad
 sorcerers).

Do we know that the author of this comic is OK with people making
free video games based on it?

Bug#497460: ITP: libexception-class-trycatch-perl -- Syntactic try/catch sugar for use with Exception::Class

2008-09-01 Thread Jaldhar H. Vyas
Package: wnpp

* Package name: libexception-class-trycatch-perl
  Version : 1.10
Upstream Author : David A Golden [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Exception-Class-TryCatch/
* License : GPL + Perl
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Syntactic try/catch sugar for use with Exception::Class

Exception::Class::TryCatch provides syntactic sugar for use with
Exception::Class using the familiar keywords try and catch. Its
primary objective is to allow users to avoid dealing directly with $@ by
ensuring that any exceptions caught in an eval are captured as
Exception::Class objects, whether they were thrown objects to begin with or
whether the error resulted from die. This means that users may immediately
use isa and various Exception::Class methods to process the exception.
 .
In addition, this module provides for a method to push errors onto a hidden
error stack immediately after an eval so that cleanup code or other error
handling may also call eval without the original error in $@ being lost.

Bug#426259: ITP: springframework -- layered Java/J2EE application framework

Le Monday 01 September 2008 22:07:31 Andreas Schildbach, vous avez écrit :
 Hi Damien,

Hi Andreas,

I'm willing to help too, could we make a team to work on this package ?

Glad you are asking. I have already uploaded a very rough first version
of the Debian package to mentors.debian.net:

 - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libspring-2.5-java
 - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
 contrib non-free - dget
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libspring-2.5-java/libspring-2
.5-java_2.5.5-1.dsc

I have identified most - if not all - build/runtime dependencies that are
already included in the Debian archive (see debian/control).

I had a look at your package and I've compared your B-D field with my homemade
listing. Here is the diff :
+antlr
+aspectj
+bsh
+glassfish-javaee
+glassfish-mail
+junit
+junit4
+libcglib2.1-java
+libcommons-beanutils-java
+libcommons-codec-java
+libcommons-dbcp-java
+libcommons-digester-java
+libcommons-discovery-java
+libcommons-io-java
+libcommons-lang-java
+libcommons-validator-java
+libeasymock-java
+libehcache-java
-libgnumail-java
+libhibernate3-java
+libhsqldb-java
+libibatis-java
+libjarjar-java
+libjaxen-java
-libservlet2.4-java
+libmx4j-java
+libqdox-java
+libquartz-java
+libslf4j-java
+libtiles-java
+libvelocity-tools-java
+libwsdl4j-java

Has you can see, I'm trying to build every single module of spring 2.5 source
code :)

1) You can observe I'm using glassfish-javaee instead of libservlet2.4-
java+libgnumail-java because glassfish-javaee include many more api (JTA, JSP,
Activation, EJB3, JMS, etc...)

2) I'm currently packaging libvelocity-tools-java (ITP #497436) and libtiles-
java (ITP #497437). I've set them as blocker for this bug.

Unfortunately, there are still loads of dependencies not in the archive,
some of which probably never will (e.g. SUN licence, does it permit
 redistribution at all?)

You're right. We have to strip some part of springframework until someone re-
licence them under a DFSG licence (for example Sun JSF + Portlet API,
Websphere, OC4J, etc...).

Here is my list of removed JAR due to licencing problems :
- commonj-twm.jar
- websphere_uow_api.jar
- portlet-api.jar
- oc4j-clapi.jar

So that, I've removed the following files/directories from orig.tar.gz :
org/springframework/web/portlet
org/springframework/transaction/jta
  - WebSphereUowTransactionManager.java
  - WebSphereTransactionManagerFactoryBean.java
  - JotmFactoryBean.java
org/springframework/scheduling/commonj
org/springframework/jdbc/support/nativejdbc/XAPoolNativeJdbcExtractor.java

I've also patched
org/springframework/scripting/support/ScriptFactoryPostProcessor.java
to use import org.objectweb.asm.Type instead of net.sf.cglib.asm.Type

But those that can be packaged should probably be
packaged soon. Maybe you want to take this task? I will compile a list and
 attach it to this task.

I'm currently working on libvelocity-tools-java, libtiles-java, bnd,
jasperreports.

Cheers,

Bug#457318: netqmail_1.06-1_powerpc.changes REJECTED

2008-09-01 Thread Gerrit Pape
On Sun, Jul 06, 2008 at 02:19:30PM +, Joerg Jaspert wrote:
 Hi Maintainer,

rejected, for various reasons (this mail applies to all of the various
qmail and qmail related packages currently in NEW, namely
 netqmail, qmail-run, qmail-tools, dot-forward, fastforward).

Hi ftpmaster, I had some problems separating the items that are reasons
to reject the packages from other comments about the packaging in
general, and the upstream software. The netqmail, qmail-run, and
fastforward packages have been updated to address the issues, and all
packages are re-uploaded.

First - the packaging is nowhere near the standard Debian aspires to in the
 archive:

Qmail is an MTA and as such should follow Debian Policy (for example Section
11.6). It's therefore not a very good start that an MTA package needs
additional packages (qmail-run) installed to perform the minimal tasks
required of mail-transport-agent, and yet another package (fastforward) to
 support /etc/aliases.

Hmm, the MTA package actually is qmail-run, as can be read from the
README.Debian's in the qmail-run and qmail packages. And qmail-run
needs the qmail package, which provides the qmail programs and queue
structure, as well as the fastforward package, which provides support
for the /etc/aliases database. I can't see anything wrong with this, to
the contrary, the modularity of the packages provides more flexibility,
e.g.:

o users can install the qmail package without the qmail-run package to
configure qmail as MTA manually, next to another MTA package already
   installed on the system
o users can install the qmail package without the qmail-run package if
they wish to use some programs from the qmail package, e.g.
qmail-popup and qmail-pop3d, and wish to have a different default
   MTA installed, such as postfix
o users can disable the /etc/aliases support, and switch to a different
alias handling if they like; the package providing the /etc/aliases
database support can then be removed from the system

Now, looking into the binary packages provided by netqmail there are a
 *few* points to list:

 qmail-uids-gids
   * Uses addgroup in preinst without a pre-depends

I fixed this in -2, users and groups are now handled in the postinst.

   * Uses useradd instead of adduser (policy 9.2.2)

As I read the policy, 9.2.2 mandates adduser for dynamically allocated
users and groups, but not globally allocated. Since the qmail uids and
gids are in the 6-64999 range, useradd/groupadd should be just fine.

   * Why install the uids/gids in preinst?

I fixed this in -2, users and groups are now handled in the postinst.

   * User interaction without using debconf (policy 3.9.1) in both preinst and
postrm (ok, it's just giving info, but still)
This hasn't changed.

   * Aborts in preinst if:
 - Upgrading from a pre 1.06 version (presumably unofficial)

Yes, by intention. I can't see how this is a reason for reject, other
new package don't care at all if they replace some unofficial or
non-free packages, possibly breaking a working installation. I think
aborting in that case is a good thing.

 - UIDs / GIDs aren't what it expects (as the qmail binary then uses these
UIDs *it* can't be installed without the UIDs being right, but why does
   qmail-uids-gids fail?)

The qmail-uids-gids package is a build-dependency of netqmail.

   * Recommends manual use of userdel and groupdel rather than deluser /
 delgroup in postrm
This hasn't changed.

 qmail
   * Installs /var/lib/qmail with alias, bin, boot, queue directories
Yes, shouldn't be a reason for reject.

 - Also:
   + users symlink to /etc/qmail/users/
   + control symlink to /etc/qmail/
   + doc symlink to /usr/share/doc/qmail/
Yes, shouldn't be a reason for reject.

 - bin/ contains mostly symlinks back to /usr/bin and /usr/sbin but
   one binary is present (config-fast)

Yes, in -2 the config-fast program is moved to /usr/lib/qmail/bin/.

 - boot/ contains what looks like scripts (should probably be in
/usr/lib/qmail with a symlink if necessary)

Yes, in -2 the boot/ subdirectory is moved into /usr/lib/qmail/, and
symlinked back.

 - queue/ is basically the only part which any sane MTA would have in /var

  * Preinst fails if attempting an upgrade from 1.06 (presumably unofficial)
Yes, shouldn't be a reason for reject.

  * Aborts in postinst if system doesn't have FQDN
Yes, I can't see anything wrong with this.

Looking at qmail-run there is also:
  * README recommends manually installing non FHS compliant symlinks:
ln -s /var/lib/qmail /var/qmail
ln -s /etc/service /service
Not a policy bug, but certainly in bad taste...
This hasn't changed.

  * C/R/Ps mail-transport-agent
- Now, this does provide /usr/{sbin,lib}/sendmail
Yes, as said above, qmail-run is the package providing the MTA
functionality, shouldn't be a reason for reject.

- But as for /etc/aliases, /usr/sbin/newaliases

Bug#497474: ITP: ipager -- netwm compliant pager application

2008-09-01 Thread Daniel Moerner
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Daniel Moerner [EMAIL PROTECTED]

  Package name: ipager
  Version : 1.1.0

[EMAIL PROTECTED], Mathias Gumz [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  URL : http://useperl.ru/ipager/index.en.html
  License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : netwm compliant pager application

IPager is a pager originally developed for Fluxbox but it can also be
used with other window managers.
It supports the following features:
  - Zoom on desktop images
  - Main window transparency
  - Transparent workspaces icons.
  - Theming
  - You can send a window from one workspace to another
  - Application icons

Francois Fevotte originally filed an ITP against ipager
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=392804)
but later closed it for lack of interest and upstream development.
I believe that ipager should have a place in Debian. On the Fluxbox
wiki, ipager is listed as the first pager recommendation, whereas
fbpager (currently in debian) is deprecated. Although there has been a
lack of upstream development, the developers have been willing to
provide patches through email to fix build errors with newer versions of
gcc, and the package currently builds fine against sid.

Bug#497476: ITP: gw6c -- Client to connect to IPv6 tunnel brokers

2008-09-01 Thread Craig Small
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Craig Small [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: gw6c
  Version : 5.1
  Upstream Author : Hexaco
* URL : http://go6.net/4105/download.asp
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: C
Description : Client to connect to IPv6 tunnel brokers

TSP is a control protocol used to establish and maintain static tunnels.
The Gateway6 client (gw6c) is used on the host computer to connect to a
tunnel broker using the TSP protocol and to get the information for its
tunnel. When it receives the information for the tunnel, the Gateway6
client creates the static tunnel on its operating system.

Hexaco have helpfully mixed their daemon code with their GUI code
which has some ugly license and is completely useless for non-windows
systems anyway. The source package will be fixed so it only has the
BSD licensed daemon code.

I intend to orphan the pyprotocols package. I no longer use the stuff
that requires this.

The package description is:
Do you hate having to write lots of if-then logic to test what type
something is? Wouldn't it be nice if you could just declare I want
this object to have this behavior and magically convert whatever
value you have, to the type you need? PyProtocols lets you do just
that, cleanly, quickly, and robustly -- even with built-in types or
 other people's classes.
 .
PyProtocols extends the PEP 246 adapt() function with a new
declaration API that lets you easily define your own protocols and
adapters, and declare what adapters should be used to adapt what
types, objects, or protocols. In addition to its own Interface type,
PyProtocols can also use Twisted and Zope's Interface types too. (Of
course, since Twisted and Zope interfaces aren't as flexible, only a
subset of the PyProtocols API works with them. Specific limitations
 are listed in the documentation.)

Bug#490240: Progress.

2008-09-01 Thread Karl Fogel
Most of the lintian errors are fixed now, but these remain:

   $ lintian onetime_1.73-1_i386.changes

   W: onetime source: native-package-with-dash-version
   W: onetime: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/onetime

(I'll give the detailed -i output at the end of this mail.)

Since this wasn't supposed to be a native package, I'm clearly doing
something wrong! Will continue to work on it. See the SVN history of
http://svn.red-bean.com/repos/onetime/trunk/ for details of what I've
done so far.

In the meantime, I've uploaded the latest files to the same location:

of these latest files:

   W: onetime source: debian-watch-file-in-native-package
   N:
N: The package ships a watch file although it is a Debian native package.
N: DEHS does not process watch files in native packages based on the
N: reasoning that native packages do not have upstreams to check for new
   N: releases.
   N:
N: Refer to http://wiki.debian.org/DEHS for details.
   N:
   W: onetime source: native-package-with-dash-version
   N:
N: Native packaging should only be used if a piece of software was
N: written specifically to be turned into a Debian package. In this case,
N: the version number should not contain a debian revision part.
   N:
N: Native source packages are sometimes created by accident. In most
N: cases the reason is the location of the original source tarball.
N: dpkg-source searches for this in
   N: ../package_upstream-version.orig.tar.gz.
   N:
   W: onetime: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/onetime
   N:
   N: Each binary in /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, /bin, /sbin or /usr/games should
   N: have a manual page
   N:
N: Note that though the man program has the capability to check for
N: several program names in the NAMES section, each of these programs
N: should have its own manual page (a symbolic link to the appropriate
N: manual page is sufficient) because other manual page viewers such as
N: xman or tkman don't support this.
   N:
N: If the name of the man page differs from the binary by case, man may
N: be able to find it anyway; however, it is still best practice to make
N: the case of the man page match the case of the binary.
   N:
N: If the man pages are provided by another package on which this package
N: depends, lintian may not be able to determine that man pages are
N: available. In this case, after confirming that all binaries do have
N: man pages after this package and its dependencies are installed,
N: please add a lintian override.
   N:
N: Refer to Policy Manual, section 12.1 for details.
