Bug#505968: ITP: urlwatch -- email notifications of changes to URLs

2008-11-17 Thread Francois Marier
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Francois Marier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: urlwatch
  Version : 1.4
  Upstream Author : Thomas Perl <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://thpinfo.com/2008/urlwatch/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Python
  Description : email notifications of changes to URLs

 This script is intended to help you watch URLs and get notified (via e-mail)
of any
 changes. The change notification will include the URL that has changed and a
unified
 diff of what's changed. The script works out of a single directory, so no need
to
 install anything. State files are kept in the same folder. The script supports
 stripping always-changing parts of a page through the use of a filter hook
function.

Bug#505971: RFP: eispice -- eispice - a clone of the Berkeley SPICE 3 Simulation Engine

2008-11-17 Thread w...@ise.pw.edu.pl
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Package name: eispice
Version : 0.11.6
Upstream Author : Charles Eidsness <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
URL : http://www.thedigitalmachine.net/eispice.html
License : GPL
Programming Lang: C, Python, Fortran
Description : eispice - a clone of the Berkeley SPICE 3 Simulation Engine

eispice is a clone of the Berkley SPICE 3 Simulation Engine. It was
originally targeted toward PCB level Signal Integrity Simulation; simulating
IBIS model defined devices, transmission lines, and passive termination but
the scope of the tool has been slowly expanding to include more general
purpose circuit simulation features.

The Simulator
The simulation engine is written in C and utilizes the SuperLU matrix
library for solving the MNA Matrices. It should run faster than Berkley
Spice for most IBIS based SI simulations (it's difficult to directly compare
them because spice doesn't directly support IBIS models).

Models
eispice contains a subset of standard spice3 device models. The intent is to
one day be completely compliant with models available in the basic spice3f5
release. eispice also includes a set of unique models like direct IBIS model
support, Python based Behavioral models, non-linear capacitors, etc. Refer
to the User's Manual for more details about what's available in the current
release.

Python
Other than being the only Open Source simulator that provides native IBIS
model support, the most unique feature of eispice is its Python based
front-end. The eispice simulator is wrapped into a Python Module (the
simulator itself is written in C) which makes it possible to use the Python
language to control simulations and process results. For those familiar with
Berkley Spice and not Python; a Python shell can be used in place of the
nutmeg and Python scripts can be run like batch-mode SPICE.

One of the powers of Python is the ability to integrate different Python
Modules. A great example of this is Thomas' MyHDL/eispice Mixed-Mode
Example.

The Plotter
eispice includes a very simple plot utility or you can use the Python
Plotting tool of your choice, e.g. matplotlib.

Hello,

I will not package it anymore because I could not reach the author of
the software since an half year.

Anyway he had done some changes to fotowall which makes packagers life
easier: http://code.google.com/p/fotowall/source/list

If someone is interested in packaging it, I would also (if the maint is
interested) give him my last code status of the package.

Bug#495542: RFS: libcas-php

2008-11-17 Thread Olivier Berger
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "libcas-php".

* Package name: libcas-php
  Version : 1.0.1-1
  Upstream Author : Pascal Aubry
* URL : http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/CASC/phpCAS
* License : BSD
  Section : web

It builds these binary packages:
libcas-php - CAS client library for PHP

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libcas-php
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libcas-php/libcas-php_1.0.1-1.dsc

For those who care, phpCAS is a library which allows clients written in PHP to
authenticate to a CAS (Central Authentication Service) server.

The corresponding ITP is found at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495542

Note that this package would allow the dependency of a number of
packages such as moodle and glpi on that package instead of shipping a
copy of phpCAS (http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/moodle/filelist and
http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/glpi/filelist).

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Olivier Berger

While you are at it, as your package also uses domxml-php4-php5.php why don't
you also package it? (it would be better if the code was finally ported instead
of using a wrapper, though).

debian/control:
> Depends: ${misc:Depends}, php5, php5-curl, php-db

Does it really need a web SAPI? or can it be used with php5-cli? in the latter
case add an ORed dependency on php5-cli in addition to php5.

debian/rules:
What about cleaning it up?

debian/copyright:

What about also displaying his email address?

what about docs/README?

> - In case of jurisdiction dispute, the French law is authoritative.
let's see what ftpmasters say about this.

debian/dirs:
empty? delete it

debian/docs:
ditto

debian/README.Debian:
> This packaging needs testing as I'm not fully sure there ain't
> regressions introduced by this upgrade of the DOM parsing library.

Have you at lest tested the basic functionality of the library with the newer
version of domxml-php4-php5.php or are you blindly packaging stuff?

CAS.php:
> define("CAS_PGT_STORAGE_FILE_DEFAULT_PATH",'/tmp');
..
> define("CAS_PGT_STORAGE_FILE_FORMAT_PLAIN",'plain');

Doesn't look good at all.

CAS/client.php:
> if ( $this->isProxy() ) {
> // pass the callback url for CAS proxies
> $validate_url .= '&pgtUrl='.$this->getCallbackURL();
> }

Improper sanitation of getCallbackURL which uses data like REQUEST_URI; and
there's more about this, but I'm better going to test it and send the info to
bugtraq.

What about also shipping the api docs?

Bug#469982: Trivial Garbage package

2008-11-17 Thread Luca Capello
Hi Barry!

I am sorry for the long mail, but I can be very verbose sometime...

Since we discussed on IRC, you know why I was late ;-)

On Mon, 10 Nov 2008 21:52:48 +0100, Barry deFreese wrote:
> I apologize for posting to the development list but I've been trying

FWIW, I *always* prefer discussions to take place on mailing lists,
since they are archived and can be referenced later.

I will speak for myself here, but I think Peter's opinion is not so far
From mine: I would be glad to have another CL library under the team
umbrella. However, I am not sure I will ever use trivial garbage [1],
which means that if your friend use it and you provide some sort of
support to him, you can become a team member and maintain it by
yourself. The team can take care of it, but this should be the last
option.

> If not would you mind at least looking over my package to see if I am
> doing the right thing with it?

Sure, here my comments on the package available on mentors.d.o [2]. For
the list readers, most of these comments will end up in the long-overdue
"Debian Common Lisp Policy", which I still need to write.

1) debian/changelog

   I do not like to retroactively modify previously released files,
   which means that if you do not have an ITP number when your package
   goes public, just ignore it. I do not consider the corresponding
   lintian warning [3] so important, since AFAIK the ITP is not
   mandatory and sometime I do not see the point in it.

   In this specific case, Matthias Benkard (cc:ed) opened the ITP [4]
   (cc:ed as well): Matthias, do you want to maintain trivial-garbage?

2) debian/control

   * Build-Depends

 SBCL is not needed, only debhelper and dh-lisp.

   * Maintainer/Uploaders

 Please always use the Debian CL team for the Maintainer: field (as
 you did, thank you) and your name for the Uploaders: one: it does
 not matter if you are not the real uploader, but you are the one
 who did the packaging work and you deserve credits for that.

   * Homepage

 Is there any reason for using a specific revision for the Cliki
 homepage? I would use instead the "plain" link [5]: if you use a
 specific revision, we will need to change it every time there is a
 new Debian version.

   * Vcs-*

 trivial-garbage is maintained upstream in darcs [6], before any
 upload to main the Debian package should be converted to darcs and
 put into the pkg-c-l darcs.d.o space [7]. Then you can check
 cl-arnesi for the corresponding Vcs-* fields [8].

 Since you need to be part of the team to work on the pkg-c-l
 darcs.d.o space, I already did it for the trivial-garbage.upstream
 repository [9]:

  [alioth]
   everything as explained at [7], except that I commented out the
   bcc: mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] since the package is
   not yet in Debian

  [local]
   $ darcs get --tag 0.17 \
  http://common-lisp.net/~loliveira/darcs/trivial-garbage/ \
  trivial-garbage.upstream
   $ cd trivial-garbage.upsream
   $ darcs tag UPSTREAM_trivial-garbage_0.17
   $ darcs push \
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/darcs/pkg-common-lisp/trivial-garbage.upstream

 Now you should get the upstream repository, import your first
 debian/ folder effort and then fix it:

   $ darcs get \

http://darcs.debian.org/darcs/pkg-common-lisp/trivial-garbage.upstream \
  trivial-garbage
   $ cd trivial-garbage
   $ cp -r /path/to/trivial-garbage-0.17/debian .
   $ darcs record -A "Barry deFreese <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" \
  -m "Import Debian version 0.17-1"
   $ darcs tag DEBIAN_trivial-garbage_0.17-1
   $ [start fixing]

 I can import your first Debian effort if you want, but if you do it
 you will practise a bit with darcs as well ;-)

 Since the team packages are maintained with the $VCS-buildpackage
 tools, please read the darcs-buildpackage [10] documentation or just
 check cl-arnesi [8].

 I will not care too much about the upstream original .tar.gz: since
 we track upstream VCS repository and upstream correctly tags each
 release, we will just tag the Debian upstream one accordingly.
 Thus, while the .orig.tar.gz generated by darcs-buildpackage will
 not be exactly the same as upstream one, the contents will. Or we
 can use upstream one and feed it to darcs-buildpackage. Obviously,
 I am open to any discussion on this subject ;-)

   * Description

 While it is correct, I would expand it a bit more to include some
 features, similar to cl-arnesi [11].

3) debian/copyright

   Please enclose every e-mail address between < and >, you missed that

Bug#505878: ITP: libfunambol-cpp-client-api -- unclarified AGPL

2008-11-17 Thread MJ Ray
libfunambol-cpp-client-api appears to be under a plain AGPLv3.

Clause 13 of the AGPLv3 requires hosting users to provide "access
to the Corresponding Source from a network server at no charge" to
every visitor to the web pages generated by this software. If used to
produce a public website, this is an infinite download liability and a
significant cost may result from running the software. Further, the
cost is disproportionate to the modification because the whole
software must be offered and not only the modifications.

So, I believe this does not meet DFSG 1, 4, 3 and/or 6 as it stands:
it requires a fee for use, restricts the source code from being
modified without allowing distribution of patch files, and/or
discriminates against use of modified versions for production of
public websites.

I think some copyright holders of software under AGPLv3 have stated
that linking to an upstream download site is sufficient provision of
access for the parts you did not modify, regardless of the
availability of that site, which would clear DFSG 4 and reduce the
1/3/6 concerns immensely.  For example
http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2008/08/msg00056.html
There is nothing in the FSF FAQ about this yet either way.
http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html

Would libfunambol-cpp-client-api's copyright holders agree to make a
similar statement?

Regards,

Perhaps; they have expressed willingness to make some efforts to help
Debian, although this was about the issue of whether section 13
applies to client code.

You might want to follow up on the thread in debian-legal

http://lists.debian.org/debian-legal/2008/11/msg00046.html

I understand someone from Funambol is following that thread.

It would be nice to have some concensus about what, if any exceptions
are required for AGPL software to be in main.

Bug#186958: Required Perl packages

2008-11-17 Thread Jonathan Harker
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,
Please bear in mind that I'm a Debian n00b, but I have a wiki HOWTO on
how to install this on Ubuntu:
http://wiki.jon.geek.nz/index.php/Koha/Install

I imagine it isn't very different from installing on Lenny, and I plan
to try this out soon on a virtual server.

I also imagine that we could fairly easily split koha into two packages:

koha
  - deps: libapache2-mod-perl2 mysql-server
  libalgorithm-checkdigits-perl libbiblio-endnotestyle-perl
  libcgi-session-perl libclass-accessor-perl
  libclass-factory-util-perl libdata-ical-perl libdate-calc-perl
  libdate-ical-perl libdate-manip-perl
  libdatetime-format-mail-perl libdatetime-format-strptime-perl
  libdatetime-format-w3cdtf-perl libdatetime-locale-perl
  libdatetime-perl libdatetime-timezone-perl libdbd-mysql-perl
  libdbi-perl libgd-barcode-perl libhtml-template-pro-perl
  libimage-magick-perl liblingua-ispell-perl liblingua-stem-perl
  liblist-moreutils-perl liblocale-gettext-perl
  liblocale-po-perl libmail-sendmail-perl libmarc-charset-perl
  libmarc-crosswalk-dublincore-perl libmarc-record-perl
  libmarc-xml-perl libmime-lite-perl libnet-ldap-perl
  libnet-z3950-zoom-perl libpdf-api2-perl
  libpdf-reuse-barcode-perl libpdf-reuse-perl libpoe-perl
  libschedule-at-perl libtext-charwidth-perl libtext-csv-perl
  libtext-csv-xs-perl libtext-iconv-perl libtext-wrapi18n-perl
  libtimedate-perl libtime-duration-perl libtime-format-perl
  libunix-syslog-perl libxml-dom-perl libxml-dumper-perl
  libxml-libxml-perl libxml-libxslt-perl
  libxml-namespacesupport-perl libxml-parser-perl libxml-perl
  libxml-regexp-perl libxml-rss-perl libxml-sax-perl
  libxml-simple-perl libxml-xslt-perl libyaml-syck-perl
  libhtml-scrubber-perl libdata-uuid-perl libemail-date-perl
  libparams-util-perl  (others from Makefile.PL)

  libcgi-sessions-serialize-yaml-perl libcgi-session-yaml-perl
  libclass-adapter-perl libsms-send-perl
// not sure if these last four are packaged in lenny?
// hence the extra dh-make-perl steps in above howto.

  // assuming we'd use Debian packages rather than rely on CPAN

koha-zebra-daemon
  - deps: yaz idzebra-2.0 daemon koha

The main koha package would be separate from an optional
koha-zebra-daemon package for the separate zebra processes, which would
postinst invoke a dpkg-reconfigure on the koha package to tweak its
settings to use the zebra daemons.

We can probably ask the questions needed for the perl Makefile.PL step
in the packaging script and pass them in.

We could probably curl our way through the web-based installer (at
localhost:8080 by default).

Potential conflicting sticking points in the Koha install instructions:

  - MySQL needs to be configured (allegedly) to treat everything as UTF8
with the following in /etc/mysql/my.cnf under [mysqld]:
  default-character-set = utf8
  character-set-server = utf8
  skip-character-set-client-handshake

  - Apache2 requires:
  Listen 8080
  AddDefaultCharset UTF-8

  - odd CPAN mods that may require manual installation, see above.

Not sure if any of this helps... just that it might make an interesting
"learn how to package something for Debian" project.
