Bug#504080: ITP: courier-pythonfilter -- filter collection for the Courier MTA

2008-12-15 Thread Paweł Tęcza

Hi Frederik,

Recently I've packaged Pythonfilter 1.4. It's not perfect, because I
don't have the experiences with debianization of Python applications,
but it works for me.

Let me know, if you're interested. I can share my work with you.

Please note that my package is named courier-filter-python. Pythonfilter
is the most popular Python filtering framework for Courier-MTA, so it
can be alternative for Perl implementation named courier-filter-perl.

My best regards,

Pawel Tecza

Bug#449205: ITP: otf-stix -- the Scientific and Technical Information

2008-12-15 Thread Atsuhito Kohda
retitel 449205 ITP: otf-stix -- the Scientific and Technical Information
owner !
thanks

I've investigated a current status of MathML support and
I'd like to upload a package of STIX fonts.

At present, we have latex-xft-fonts, xfonts-mathml,
ttf-mathematica4.1 for MathML but with iceweasel (=3.0),
they don't have any good (nor bad?) effects on rendering of
MathML as far as I know.

So, in the first place, I think it is wrong or meaningless
that iceweasel suggests these fonts.

With stix beta fonts, iceweasel (=3.0) seems to display
MathML well to some extent. But an upstream document says
they are yet only a subset of future release version.
Further and unfortunately, it is too late to ship stix fonts
in lenny. So, in short, iceweasel couldn't support MathML
in lenny.

Anyway, I already packaged stix beta fonts and will soon
upload it to experimental.

If I misunderstand anything or some of you know much more
information, please let me know.

Regards,2008-12-15(Mon)

  Programming Lang: C, C++, Java
Description : Library for unicode support and internalisation
ICU is a mature, widely used set of C/C++ and Java libraries for
Unicode support, software internationalization and globalization
(i18n/g11n). It grew out of the JDK 1.1 internationalization APIs, which
the ICU team contributed, and the project continues to be developed
for the most advanced Unicode/i18n support. ICU is widely portable and
gives applications the same results on all platforms and between C/C++
 and Java software.

Remark: This software is currently provided inside the source package
of eclipse. There is no clear reason why it is tied into another packages
upstream version. Moreover there is a seperate package maintained in
Ubuntu and thus it is simple to steal this package. The packaging
stuff is available in SVN via

zotero needs pdftotext and pdfinfo tools to be present or otherwise
suggests to download them for you and place in its directory.

In the past, at least, zotero needed /modified/ versions of these
utilities. The system-supplied versions may or may not work now (I
haven't checked; I advised them how to make them work on all platforms,
but I don't think they've pushed these changes yet). The changes to
these utilities are minor (e.g. adding file output), but have not been
accepted by upstream as far as I know.

I bet your pardon, their 'minor' is 'major' for me, whenever I am to
administer such a computational server with 30 users and want to make
them use zotero.

I hope they make zotero compatible with upstream versions of the
tools... btw on their VCS I see only changes to

https://www.zotero.org/trac/browser/tools/xpdf/pdfinfo.cc

so there is a hope that pdftotext is fine as is in Debian? ;-)

For me, trial on zotero failed miserably -- after a crash of firefox,
zotero fails to open its own database (.bak file was already bad one
after 'failed' opening)... and I reluctant at this point to investigate
the problem due to shortage of time... but I might give zotero another
try whenever it is in Debian since it would make it much easier to file
a bug report than using their forums.

Hi Paweł

I packaged courier-pythonfilter in the beginning of November and uploaded it

It is in pretty good shape, is lintian clean, and I've tested the build

tiny man pages for pythonfilter and pythonfilter-quarantine as well as
written postinst and prerm scripts for starting and stopping the filter,
plus a few other things. Furthermore, I'm using dpatch to remove shebangs

Hello again,

Thank you very much for your reply and the link! I'll take a look at
that source package tomorrow.

It sounds very interesting for me. I didn't touch the Python sources,
only packaged them and also created postinst and prerm scripts. I'll
compare your work with mine and write to you, if I have any ideas how to
improve your package.

Did you try to contact with Stefan Hornburg (Racke)? He is Debian
developer and maintaner of Courier packages for Debian. I wrote him
about my Pythonfilter package a few days ago, but I don't have any his
feedback yet.

No, I'm not DD. Debian was my favourite Linux distro couple years ago.
Now I rather prefer Ubuntu for desktop and server and recently I've been
testing OpenSolaris on my laptop :)

Mail::RFC822::Address validates email addresses against the grammar described
in RFC 822 using regular expressions. How to validate a user supplied email
address is a FAQ (see perlfaq9): the only sure way to see if a supplied email
address is genuine is to send an email to it and see if the user recieves it.

Description: library to determine DNS server vendor, product and version
Identifying individual nameserver implementations is based on borderline
protocol behaviour. The DNS protocol offers a multitude of message bits,
response types, opcodes, classes, query types and label types in a fashion
that makes some mutually exclusive while some are not used in a query
 messages at all.
 .
Not every implementation offers the full set of features the DNS protocol
set currently has. Some implementations offer features outside the protocol
set, and there are implementations that do not conform to standards.
 .
Amongst the servers it is able to identify are:
 .
  - VGRS ATLAS
  - BIND (v4, v8, v9)
  - eNom DNS
  - Incognito DNS commander
  - MARADNS
  - MS Server NT4/2000/2003

Description: remotely determine DNS server version
A nameserver basically responds to a query. Interoperability is an
obvious requirement here. The standard protocol behaviour of different
DNS implementations is expected to be the same.
 .
The realty is quite different though. fpdns uses a series of borderline
DNS queries to determine the vendor, product and version of a nameserver.

Description : Maven Site Plugin for generating a site
Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the
concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project's build,
reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
 .
Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete
state of a development effort in the shortest period of time. In order to
attain this goal there are several areas of concern that Maven attempts
 to deal with:
 .
* Making the build process easy
* Providing a uniform build system
* Providing quality project information
* Providing guidelines for best practices development
* Allowing transparent migration to new features
 .
The Maven 2 Site Plugin is used to generate a site for the project. The
generated site also includes the project's reports that were configured in the
 reporting section of the POM.

Description: Perl extension for validating email addresses
Mail::RFC822::Address validates email addresses against the grammar described
in RFC 822 using regular expressions. How to validate a user supplied email
address is a FAQ (see perlfaq9): the only sure way to see if a supplied email
address is genuine is to send an email to it and see if the user recieves it.
The one useful check that can be performed on an address is to check that the
email address is syntactically valid. That is what this module does.
 .
This module is functionally equivalent to RFC::RFC822::Address, but uses
regular expressions rather than the Parse::RecDescent parser. This means that
startup time is greatly reduced making it suitable for use in transient scripts
 such as CGI scripts.

I request an adopter for the vpnc package. The package is usualy easy to
maintain but my successor should better have good understanding of IP
networking and some experience in maintaining patched packages.

Regards,
Eduard.

The package description is:
vpnc is a VPN client compatible with cisco3000 VPN Concentrator (also
known as Cisco's EasyVPN equipment). vpnc runs entirely in userspace
and does not require kernel modules except of the tun driver to
 communicate with the network layer.
 .
It supports most of the features needed to establish connection to the
VPN concentrator: MD5 and SHA1 hashes, 3DES and AES ciphers, PFS and
 various IKE DH group settings.
