Description : easy iptables based firewall system

Advanced Policy Firewall (APF) is an iptables(netfilter) based firewall
system designed around the essential needs of today's Internet deployed
servers and the unique needs of custom deployed Linux installations. The
configuration of APF is designed to be very informative and present the
user with an easy to follow process, from top to bottom of the
configuration file. The management of APF on a day-to-day basis is
conducted from the command line with the 'apf' command, which includes
detailed usage information and all the features one would expect from a
current and forward thinking firewall solution.

Summary of features:
- - detailed and well commented configuration file
- - granular inbound and outbound network filtering
- - user id based outbound network filtering
- - application based network filtering
- - trust based rule files with an optional advanced syntax
- - global trust system where rules can be downloaded from a central management
server
- - reactive address blocking (RAB), next generation in-line intrusion
prevention
- - debug mode provided for testing new features and configuration setups
- - fast load feature that allows for 1000+ rules to load in under 1 second

- - inbound and outbound network interfaces can be independently configured
- - global tcp/udp port & icmp type filtering with multiple methods of
executing filters (drop, reject, prohibit)
- - configurable policies for each ip on the system with convenience variables
to import settings
- - packet flow rate limiting that prevents abuse on the most widely abused
protocol, icmp
- - prerouting and postrouting rules for optimal network performance
- - dshield.org block list support to ban networks exhibiting suspicious
activity
- - spamhaus Don't Route Or Peer List support to ban known "hijacked zombie" IP
blocks
- - any number of additional interfaces may be configured as firewalled
(untrusted) or trusted (not firewalled)

- - additional firewalled interfaces can have there own unique firewall
policies applied
- - intelligent route verification to prevent embarrassing configuration errors
- - advanced packet sanity checks to make sure traffic coming and going meets
the strictest of standards
- - filter attacks such as fragmented UDP, port zero floods, stuffed routing,
arp poisoning and more
- - configurable type of service options to dictate the priority of different
types of network traffic
- - intelligent default settings to meet every day server setups
- - dynamic configuration of your servers local DNS revolvers into the firewall
- - optional filtering of common p2p applications
- - optional filtering of private & reserved IP address space

- - optional implicit blocks of the ident service
- - configurable connection tracking settings to scale the firewall to the size
of your network
- - configurable kernel hooks (ties) to harden the system further to syn-flood
attacks & routing abuses
- - advanced network control such as explicit congestion notification and
overflow control
- - special chains that are aware of the state of FTP DATA and SSH connections
to prevent client side issues
- - control over the rate of logged events, want only 30 filter events a
minute? 300 a minute? - you are the boss
- - logging subsystem that allows for logging data to user space programs or
standard syslog files
- - logging that details every rule added and a comprehensive set of error
checks to prevent config errors

- - if you are familiar with netfilter you can create your own rules in any of
the policy files
- - pluggable and ready advanced use of QoS algorithms provided by the Linux
- - 3rd party add-on projects that compliment APF features

Description : Parallel Implementation of GZip

pigz, which stands for Parallel Implementation of GZip, is a fully functional
replacement for gzip that exploits multiple processors and multiple cores to
the hilt when compressing data.

PS: I plan to hack it a little bit and use syssconf function on Debian
systems to determine the real number of CPU cores (#x) since pigz's
default value is 8 which is much more than home systems have nowadays,
and the performance isn't getting (much) better with a constant number
of idle threads, they just consume more memory.

Regards,
Eduard.

Hi Yves,

by the way, since the name of the XDG was changed to freedesktop.org, it is
maybe better not to use this name directly.

How about:

libxfce4menu is a menu implementation for the Xfce Desktop Environment that is
compliant with the Desktop Menu Specification of freedesktop.org (formerly
 known as XDG).

Have a nice day,

Bug#516976: ITP: clive-utils -- additional utilities for clive

* Package name: clive-utils
  Version : 2.1.3
  Upstream Author : Toni Gundogdu
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/clive-utils/
* License : BSD
  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : additional utilities for clive

clive is a command line utility for extracting videos from Youtube and
other video sharing Web sites. It was originally written to bypass the
Adobe Flash requirement needed to view the hosted videos. It is non-
interactive, meaning it can work in the background while the user is
not logged on. This allows the user to start an extraction and
disconnect from the system, letting clive finish the work.
  .
This package contains the following utilities:
   * clivefeed -- parse RSS feeds containing video page links and use
 clive to extract them
  .
   * clivescan -- scan video pages for video links and use clive
to extract them. Scans for video page and embedded video links.
  .
   * clivepass -- create and change passwords for websites used by
clive. The passwords are encrypted and saved along with the
username information. Access is restricted by using a global
 passphrase.

This package follows the split from monolythic clive to
clive+clive-utils that was made upstream.

Maintenance shall be under Debian Perl Group.

Yes, they will agree do deactivate it on any devices that get broken by it
such as the "Option GSM modem" (i.e. that don't work as GSM modems while the
cdrom emulation is enabled).

Without a way to issue the flash-write commands to burn a new ISO into the
cdrom emulator on the GSM modem, it is pretty useless to Linux users, so it
shouldn't be too dificult to get a generic patch that avoid usb-storage to
bind to GSM modems merged, and selectively let usb-storage bind to a GSM
modem if anyone ever brings to our notice a GSM modem device that has
anything useful to do with such an emulated cdrom.

Bug#514969: zinnia build log

dh_install have a different behavior in v7.

  * dh_install: In v7 mode, if --sourcedir is not specified, first look for
files in debian/tmp, and then will look in the current directory. This
allows dh_install to interoperate with dh_auto_install without needing any
special parameters.

when you backport to v6 or v5, add a "debian/tmp/" prefix to every
line in debian/*.install or change "dh_install" to "dh_install
--sourcedir=debian/tmp"

you can commit this change to git.

good luck

Bug#516898: ITP: scheme9 -- Scheme 9 from Empty Space R4RS Scheme interpreter

2009-02-24 Thread Barak A. Pearlmutter
Package: wnpp

Owner: "Barak A. Pearlmutter"

* Package name: scheme9

Upstream Author : Nils M Holm
* URL : http://t3x.org/s9fes/
* License : ideosyncratic near-MIT/X

Description : Scheme 9 from Empty Space R4RS Scheme interpreter

Scheme 9 from Empty Space is an interpreter for a broad subset of
R4RS Scheme, and runs in many popular environments, including
Linux, *BSD, the unmentionable horror, and Plan 9. The S9fES code
strives to be simple and comprehensible. It is particularly
interesting to people who want to (a) try Scheme without having to
jump through too many hoops (S9fES is very portable); or (b) study
the implementation of Scheme (in a language other than Scheme). A
free online textbook describing the system is also available.

thanks

Hi,

I plan to upload this package. Whilst upstream produce a .deb, a
cursory look did not reveal the location to their source package.

The release tarball also contains '.svn' directories, which is
rather unfortunate.

I hope to remedy both issues before uploading.

Bug#516883: RFA: slashem

2009-02-24 Thread Peter Makholm
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the slashem package.

The package description is:
Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic (SLASH'EM)
is a role-playing game where you control a single character. The
interface and gameplay are similar in style to Rogue, ADOM, Angband
and, of course, Nethack. You control the actions through the
keyboard and view the world from an overhead perspective.

It has a somehow complicated build system, building the package multiple times
with different build options to make multiple frontends. Upstream is kind of
sleeping since december 2006.

I think there is a handful of nethack's variants in the archive. They might be
enough alike that some common packaging-team might be an idea, but I havn't the
time to participate.

Bug#516881: RFA: nc6 -- TCP/IP swiss army knife with IPv6 support

2009-02-24 Thread Peter Makholm
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the nc6 package.

The package description is:
A simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network
connections using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable
"back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other
programs and scripts. At the same time it is a feature-rich network
 debugging and exploration tool.
 .
Netcat6 is a rewrite of the original netcat with support for IPv6 and
 an enhanced support for UDP.

No new upstream version since 2006, but it seems to works fine.

libxfce4menu is an XDG-compliant menu implementation for Xfce Desktop
Environment.

Could you please be a little bit more verbose. I had the (maybe wrong)
assumption that xfce4 would be XDG-compliant without any additional
packages. Or is it just that xfce4 4.6.0 is more modulized? If this
is the case I would mention this in the long description to avoid confusion.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

If you are seeking for a sponsor it is a clever idea to post the
URL to your *.dsc file to enable others to evaluate your work. ;-)

I believe that Debian Science would be a proper place for it.

Did you asked for an alioth account which might be added to
debian-science team. Once this is done you are able to commit
to SVN or Git - posting this location would be an alternative
to the URL of the *.dsc file.

Kind regards and thanks for your work on eprover
