Yes, I uploaded the package to ubuntu already; will do the upload to
debian asap. If you want to test you can build the ubuntu sources:

Bug#299324: emacs from cvs, 23.x as of 20090228

2009-03-10 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Romain Francoise wrote:

Hello,

Gürkan Sengün writes:

I would send you what is needed for emacs.app*.deb packages. Do
you think we can do this?

Well, I'm still not sure I want to tie myself to the gnustep
libraries in this way; updating the snapshot on a weekly basis is in
itself a significant undertaking and the number of users interested
in a gnustep build is probably very low.

As I'm sure you realize, emacs-snapshot is not in Debian and its
packaging is different from the one used by the emacs22 maintainer
(who will probably also maintain emacs23 in Debian once it's
released). Having an emacs.app package in emacs-snapshot will not
help you much on the way to having it in Debian. (It would,
however, help in Ubuntu since Debian's emacs packages are not used
there.)

that's fine for me. i guess it's fine to build a separate emacs.app package,
as mentioned in #299324. i don't want a gnustep emacs build called -snapshot
it'll just be emacs.app version 23.0.x (source being taken from cvs).
i don't care about ubuntu if i'm honest.

yours,
guerkan

Bug#519102: RFP: icon-slicer -- utility for generating icon themes and libXcursor cursor themes

2009-03-10 Thread Sascha Silbe

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

Note that the information included below is mostly copied verbatim from
the existing Ubuntu package. Icon-slicer is required for

building Sugar [1] 0.84 or later.

* Package name: icon-slicer
   Version : 0.3
   Upstream Author : Owen Taylor
* URL : http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/icon-slicer
* License : BSD/as-is?
   Programming Lang: C
Description : utility for generating icon themes and libXcursor
cursor themes

This utility makes it possible to generate icon and cursor themes

The inputs to icon-slicer are conceptually:

  A) A set of multi-layer images, one for each size.
  B) A XML theme description file

Each image contains all the cursors arranged in a grid; For cursors the
layers are:

  - A layer with a dot for the hotspot of each cursor
  - The main image or first animation frame for multi-frame
animated cursors
  - The second animation frame for multi-frame animated cursors
  - ...

For icons, the layers are:

  - A layer with the images
  - An optional layer with attachment points for emblems
  - An optional layer with boxes for embedding text into
icons.

In practice, since loading of multilayer images is not supported by
standard image libraries, each layer is input as a separate image file.

The theme description file contains, among other things, information
about the source images to read, the location of each named cursor or

icon within the grid, and a set of aliases from names to other names.

Bug#515646: r-cran-maptools_0.7.16-1_i386.changes REJECTED (fwd)

2009-03-10 Thread Andreas Tille

Hi Roger,

at first I would like to inform you that I plan to package R CRAN Maptools
for the Debian GNU Linux distribution. It is a precondition for CRAN
Surveillance which should be part of the epidemiology task of Debian Med [1].
I actually prepared a package which worked so far but there is a licensing
issue which is not accepted by ftpmaster. Please read below about the
problematic files.

I noticed that the download page is not available any more so you should
probably at least fix the license statement in your downloadable tarball.
Do you see any chance for relicensing the problematic files? Would
Maptools miss any essential features if the problematic data files would
be removed from the tarball?

Kind regards and thanks for providing R Maptools

   Andreas.

  Programming Lang: Java
Description : Java template engine/script processor

Jxp (Java scripted page) is a script-processor that process JSP-like files.
It contains a parser to parse the script file into an abstract syntax tree
and a tree processor (JxpProcessor) that will process the syntax tree to
execute the code using reflection API to produce output. The main uses of Jxp
 are:
 .
   * as a script language engine to increase flexibility in the user
 application
   * as a template engine to produce dynamic text output
 .
Some of the main features of Jxp include:
 .
   * Java as script/template language. Why learn another one? ;)
   * Run JSP-like code outside of servlet container
   * support common java language 1.4 constructs (partial 1.5 syntax support
 on jdk 1.4)
   * support common JSP constructs including import directive, declaration, EL
 etc (taglib not supported, yet)
   * practical template sources management framework
   * support caching of parsed syntax tree to eliminate reparse of template
   * a servlet implementation to enable web-scripting
   * extensible processing context for defining built-in function on the
 scripts

JPF provides a runtime engine that dynamically discovers and loads
"plug-ins". A plug-in is a structured component that describes itself to JPF
using a "manifest". JPF maintains a registry of available plug-ins and the
functions they provide (via extension points and extensions).

One major goal of JPF is that the application (and its end-user) should not
pay any memory or performance penalty for plug-ins that are installed, but
not used. Plug-ins are added to the registry at application start-up or
while the application is running but they are not loaded until they are
 called.

ROS is a robot operating system. It provides the services you

message-passing between processes, and package management.

ROS is the base robot OS, there are many external modules/plugins which
will be packaged separately.

Additionally, there are a couple of trivial patches that I would
recommend applying to screen itself. See the ones Ubuntu is carrying:

Bug#519175: RFH: proftpd-dfsg

2009-03-10 Thread Francesco P. Lovergine
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

With the release of 1.3.2 of proftpd is finally in place prxs and the whole
infrastructure
for building third-parties modules. I know currently at least about 30
different modules
available as non-core and some of them are sometimes requested by users.
See http://castaglia.org/proftpd/#Modules for the list of them.

My idea is having new separate packages for add-on modules ready for squeeze
and maintained by a little team of weakly connected people, in order to stay in
sync with
patches, modules and core. Note that proftpd requires generally a good
deal of contributed patches to be in shape for the release. A decent
knowledge of its various configuration options and inners is mandatory.

In order to have an idea of the level of dedication required, prospective
helpers can consult the past 12 years of changelog.Debian, then contact
me.

Cheers

Bug#519184: ITP: gribapi -- GRIB decoding/encoding software library

2009-03-10 Thread Enrico Zini
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Enrico Zini

* Package name: gribapi
  Version : 1.7.0
  Upstream Author : Enrico Fucile
* URL : http://www.ecmwf.int/products/data/software/grib_api.html
* License : LGPLv3
  Programming Lang: C
Description : GRIB decoding/encoding software library

The ECMWF GRIB API is an application program interface accessible from
C and FORTRAN programs developed for encoding and decoding WMO FM-92
GRIB edition 1 and edition 2 messages.
 .
ECMWF is the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts.

I have already done most of the packaging at:
http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/gribapi.git;a=summary

I have one thing of which I am unsure: upstream does not yet build
shared libraries, but the interface is rather stable and I patch the
sources so that the Debian package does provide them. The issue is
about the libtool versioning: at the moment I picked 0:0:0 so that
anything upstream may choose in the future will likely be higher;
however, are there better ways to address this?

Other issues left to solve are nothing more than maybe writing a manpage
or two with help2man.

Ciao,

Enrico

Can you please file wishlist bugs with the patches included in debian
please? Since it seem that you have created them, you are in a much
better position to answer potential questions about them.

Looking at these issues, it seems to be that without them,
screen-profiles wouldn't be that useful in debian. In that case, does it
make sense at all to upload it to debian?

I've pushed my branch neverthless to
lp:~siretart/screen-profiles/debian, but I need to do some more
functional tests in my VM before I can upload it.

I can do that. Note that I've been working with upstream screen. I'll
check first to see if these fix have been released. I think they're at
least committed to upstream source control.

It's certainly still functional, but not ideal. These bugs are trivial
to fix, upstream has accepted them, and should not be a blocker.

I just committed a few changes that should make things look a little
nicer in the Debian profiles. I'll ping you in IRC about those.

Description : RDF/XML and RDF/N3 semantic web data processor

Cwm (pronounced coom) is a general-purpose data processor for the
semantic web, somewhat like sed, awk, etc. for text files or XSLT for
XML. It is a forward chaining reasoner which can be used for querying,
checking, transforming and filtering information. Its core language is
RDF, extended to include rules, and it uses RDF/XML or RDF/N3
(Notation3) serializations as required.

Due to a name clash with calmwm, the binary "cwm" will be renamed
"swap-cwm". SWAP is the underlying Python library, also provided by this
source package.

I don't have any MIDI devices here, so I wouldn't be able to help you with
testing it, fixing bugs in rumor, etc, but I'm willing to help you out (or try
to!) with the packaging side of things.

Maybe if we continued off the BTS so that we don't pollute it with useless

Great, I will take a bit more time to tinker with this, then.

I was using it in GNOME via lenny*, and decided to make minor
behavioural changes so that it can cooperate more nicely with
nautilus under (what I presume are) the default debian settings. I'm
also adding drag n' drop functionality; if anyone else has had any
similar deep thoughts, vis. little things that might be more and less
appreciable, I'd be only too happy to hear them, if not actually
cooperate ;)

I ever installed was actually "slink", then I travelled and did various
things and did not have a computer for a long time...I believe many
things have changed...thanks people :)
