This class is very new, and provides a functionality which is rather
abstract.

Class::ByOS is implemented in 24 lines of Perl (as shown by sloccount).

Is the provided functionality worth the packaging effort ?

Why do you want to package this module ?

I have put the work I've done so far on git.debian.org:

The main blocker at this stage is the packaging of a dependent package

Description : Perl module to change Perl's destruction level

Perl::Destruct::Level is an interface allowing one to change Perl's internal
destruction level. While this functionality is available through the
PERL_DESTRUCT_LEVEL environment variable when perl is compiled with debug
support, this module provides it for perls without -DDEBUGGING.

The default value of the destruct level is 0; it means that perl won't bother
destroying all its internal data structures, but let the OS do the cleanup
for it at exit.

Relevant values recognized by perl are 1 and 2. Consult your source code to
know exactly what they mean. Note that some embedded environments might
extend the meaning of the destruction level for their own purposes: mod_perl
does that, for example.

Description : General function library for safer, more secure programming
This collection of modules started out as modules which perform things
(debatably) in a safer and taint-safe manner. Since then it's also grown to
include functionality that fit into the same framework and conventions of the
original modules, including keeping the debug hooks for command-line
 debugging.
 .
All the modules below are intended to be used directly in your programs if
you need the functionality they provide.
 .
Paranoid does provide one function meant to secure your environment enough to
satisfy taint-enabled programs, and as a container which holds the last
reported error from any code in the Paranoid framework.

  Programming Lang: Perl
Description : Perl interface to count packages, subs, lines, etc. of many
files.
Perl::Metrics::Simple provides just enough methods to run static
analysis of one or many Perl files and obtain a few metrics:
packages, subroutines, lines of code, and an approximation of
cyclomatic (mccabe) complexity for the subroutines and the "main"
 portion of the code.
 .
Perl::Metrics::Simple is far simpler than Perl::Metrics. It also
comes with a script called countperl.

Whoosh is a fast, pure-Python indexing and search library. Programmers
can use it to easily add search functionality to their applications and
websites. As Whoosh is pure Python, you don't have to compile or
install a binary support library and/or make Python work with a JVM, yet
indexing and searching is still very fast. Whoosh is designed to be
modular, so every part can be extended or replaced to meet your needs
exactly.

 * Intelligent; it knows if you've missed out a migration or two
 * Database independent, so there's no hassle if you need to move
   databases.
 * Easy; it can write migrations for you, and it takes about a minute to
convert your app over to use South.
 * Designed for a pluggable Django world; you can declare dependencies
between apps so they all migrate together correctly, and you can
still use syncdb for your non-migrated apps without it interfering.

Description : check code for FIXMEs declarations

When coding it is common to come up against problems that need to be
addressed but that are not a big deal at the moment. What generally
happens is that the coder adds comments like:
 .
 # FIXME - add checking of user privileges here.
 .
Test::Fixme allows you to add a test file that ensures that none of
these get forgotten in the module.

This package will be maintained under the pkg-perl umbrella.

Cheers.

Description : Perl module providing lexically scoped environment (%ENV)

Env::Sanctify is a module that provides lexically scoped manipulation and
sanctification of %ENV. With this module, one can add or alter environment
variables, later restoring the environment back either manually or
automatically once the object falls out of scope.

This is useful for manipulating the environment that forked processes and
sub-processes will inherit.

This module is similar to Module::ExtractUse, however, it uses PPI instead of
Parse::RecDescent. This is useful for modules that need to determine, for
example, the prerequisites of a module based on the module itself (rather than
its META.yml)

Description: parameterized roles
parameterized role consists of two things: parameter declarations and a
role block. Parameters are declared using the /parameter keyword
which very much
resembles Moose/has. You can use any option that Moose/has accepts. The
default value for the "is" option is "ro" as that's a very common case. These
parameters will get their values when the consuming class (or role) uses
Moose/with. A parameter object will be constructed with these values, and
 passed to the role block.

Best Wishes

Description : Test module to do use_ok() for all the MANIFESTed modules
I'm sick of writing 00_load.t (or something like that) that'll do
use_ok() for every module I write. I'm sicker of updating 00_load.t
when I add another file to the distro. This module reads MANIFEST to
find modules to be tested and does use_ok() for each of them. Now all
you have to do is update MANIFEST. You don't have to modify the test
 any more (hopefully).

Description : Perl module for expanding a class or object's list of base
classes
The asa pragma attempts a new approach to bringing Java-style interfaces
or Perl 6-style roles to Perl 5. It allows a class or object to
look like a derivative of another class without actually specifying
it in the @ISA array.

This module is needed as a dependency of Check::ISA (ITP #526342).
I intend to maintain it as part of the Debian Perl Group.

G'luck,
Peter

The Software::License Perl module is used by various tools for
module building, installation, and distribution to provide a simple
way of referencing popular free and open-source software licenses.

I intend to maintain this module within the Debian Perl Group.
It is needed as a dependency for Module::CPANTS::Analyse (ITP #525300).

Bug#526980: Re your plexus-component-factories ITP

2009-05-07 Thread Raphael Geissert
Hi Paul, Ludovic,

You have both filed an ITP for the same package, it would therefore be great
if you could join forces and co-maintain it, as to avoid duplicating work.

Could you please both talk to each other and reach an agreement?
Don't forget to change the bugs owner and to merge them afterwards :)

Cheers,

Description : Intelligent schema migrations for django apps

 * Intelligent; it knows if you've missed out a migration or two
 * Database independent, so there's no hassle if you need to move
   databases.
 * Easy; it can write migrations for you, and it takes about a minute to
convert your app over to use South.
 * Designed for a pluggable Django world; you can declare dependencies
between apps so they all migrate together correctly, and you can
still use syncdb for your non-migrated apps without it interfering.

A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar for a given email address. This
allows you to have a global picture associated with your email address. You
can look up the Gravatar for any email address by constructing a URL to get
the image from gravatar.com. Gravatar::URL does that.

Bug#527482: RFH: mtr

2009-05-07 Thread Sandro Tosi
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Maintainer asked for help with this package; here his words:

I would welcome a second
set of eyeballs on it - particularly someone with a little more knowledge of
gtk and automake than me. Upstream is pretty responsive (both to me and to
incoming Debian bug reports) and has recently established a mailing list to
coordinate work on a rewrite (one of the primary goals being to separate the
frontend and backend so that the setuid part doesn't link against
GTK/ncurses).

Reviewing the list of bugs, there are a few that are probably already
done and can be closed, a couple that can be easily dealt with, and several
that should be tagged as forwarded.

Mulk is a multi-connection command line tool for downloading Internet
sites with image filtering and Metalink support. Similar to wget and
cURL, but it manages up to 50 simultaneous and parallel links. Main
features are: HTML code parsing, recursive fetching, Metalink
retrieving, segmented download and image filtering by width and
height. It is based on libcurl, libtidy and libxml2.

Bug#527528: ITP: gobby-0.5 -- infinote-based collaborative text editor

2009-05-07 Thread Philipp Kern
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Philipp Kern

* Package name: gobby-0.5
  Version : 0.4.92
  Upstream Author : Armin Burgmeier
* URL : http://gobby.0x539.de/
* License : GPL-2+
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : infinote-based collaborative text editor

Gobby is an editor which allows to edit text documents and source files
collaboratively over a network. All users could work on the file
simultaneously without the need to lock it. The parts the various users
write are highlighted in different colours and it supports syntax
highlighting of various programming and markup languages.
 .
This package is *not* protocol-compatible to the old Gobby 0.4.
 .
Gobby is portable to both Windows and Unix-like platforms and makes use of
the Gtk+ toolkit. A dedicated server is available in the infinoted package.

Gobby 0.5 series is not yet in a final state and will thus be uploaded
to experimental. It's co-installable with the older Gobby 0.4 because the
on-the-wire protocol changed completely.

The proposed libmediawiki-api-perl is just like libmediawiki-perl, but
uses the now available API directly, instead of reverse engineering
browser interaction.

(Some people might still want libmediawiki-perl, so don't delete it.)

Bug#527103: ITP: libclass-byos-perl -- Perl module to load OS-specific subclasses at runtime

2009-05-07 Thread Jonathan Yu
Hi Dominique:

I was looking into using the module at a later date, but have no
current plans to do so. I have not personally checked the code. Making
the module available to a wider audience of developers who may end up
using it is a goal to me, as I think it's important to provide as many
easily installable modules as possible.

On the other hand, Gregor and others have mentioned that there is a
cost incurred with each new package brought into Debian. In
particular, the packages have to be maintained and kept current
according to the upstream versions, and there is work for ftp-masters
to review and approve incoming modules.

For these reasons, I've decided to mark the module as UNRELEASED.
However, it currently remains in the pkg-perl repository (and I'll
keep it up to date if there are new releases) in case someone decides
to release it later. I hope that this is an acceptable resolution for
the rest of the team - keeping the module around in the SVN repository
but not trying to publish it yet.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Bug#514390: Status of Test-Apocalypse

2009-05-07 Thread Ryan Niebur
okay, so the only things left for Test-Apocalypse are for:
a) upstream to switch to jawnsy's test-distmanifest (jawnsy talked to apocal
about this)
b) libtest-strict-perl, libtest-portability-files-perl,
libmodule-cpants-analyse-perl (and therefor libarray-diff-perl), and
libtest-file-perl need to get packaged. Jeremiah, Peter, what's the
status of these packages?

Jeremiah, for libtest-strict-perl it looks like somebody just needs to
do the TODOs listed in the changelog.
Jeremiah, it looks like libtest-file-perl just needs you to either ask
upstream to make the change or patch it in.
Peter, for libtest-portability-files-perl it looks again like somebody
just needs to do the TODOs listed in the changelog.
Peter, for libmodule-cpants-analyse-perl it looks like you were going
to email upstream, have you done that yet?
Peter, for libarray-diff-perl it looks like you again need to email
the upstream author, have you done that yet?
Jonathan, do you know what the status of Test-Apocalypse switching is?

I will happily work on these packages if you ask me to.

Thanks,
Ryan
