I'll take the RFA bug, set the perl group to the owner, and inject it
into the repostiory. but there's no reason to prepare an upload
(afaict), so I'll just leave the ITA bug open, and leave it in our

 Thank you for your reply.

It's had quite a bit of testing on the Simply Mepis  8.0.6, which is
essentially Lenny under the hood.  It depends on Python = 2.5.
Unless the kernel building tools in Debian are renamed upstream, it
should work on all versions except oldstable.

You didn't answer my question: can this package be useful to a Debian user?

It's mainly a tool for anyone that wants to easily customize their own
kernel; maybe optimize and strip out unwanted drivers.  I realize

Not from how you introduced it: it takes information from an ubuntu
forum (that's not the most fortunate decision) so it doesn't seem so
general purpose as you're asserting right above.

Debian maintains an experimental kernel build repository that may
duplicate much of this package's results.

and so again: what's the point of this package in Debian? I don't care
if Mepis is interested in it, it *must* be useful for Debian in the
first place.

Master Kernel didn't file an ITP, and I didn't until after I put it up
 in the mentors repository.

and that's wrong, and already axplained

Should I pull the sources off there and
upload them elsewhere?  I realize I'm going about this backwards, but
we worked on the packaging first to get it into his PPA and the Lenny
compatible Mepislovers community repo.  Later came the idea to see if
it was worth trying to get it into Debian.

I think it's not that useful here, but I look forward for other comments.

is this somehow related to Debian? Can be used on a debian system in a

Sorry - this is the description on the website that is incredibly outdated -
dating back 2-3 years ago. This is the official new description:

KernelCheck is a project that is designed to automatically build any
2.6 kernel from the upstream source. KernelCheck can help users fix
hardware problems and improve boot time by customizing the kernel
configuration.

As you can see, KernelCheck allows the user to fix hardware problems because of
lack of support in the generic kernel. It can also let users deselect options
that they do not need in order to optimize their computer. Maybe the user is
running a server and doesn't need all the modules in the server kernel, so they
compile a barebones kernel.

That's just my take on it.

Bug#534999: RFH: libcap2 -- support for getting/setting POSIX.1e capabilities

2009-06-28 Thread Torsten Werner
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the libcap2 package because the
library is of Priority: standard.

The package description is:
This library implements the user-space interfaces to the POSIX
1003.1e capabilities available in Linux kernels. These capabilities are
a partitioning of the all powerful root privilege into a set of distinct
privileges. Note that it will not provide any functionality with kernels
 below 2.2

Cheers,
Torsten

Bug#535013: ITP: maven-plugin-testing -- modules to be able to test Maven Plugins.

2009-06-28 Thread Ludovic Claude

* URL : http://maven.apache.org

  Description :

Maven is a software project management and comprehension tool. Based on the
concept of a project object model (POM), Maven can manage a project's
build,
reporting and documentation from a central piece of information.
 .
Maven's primary goal is to allow a developer to comprehend the complete
state of a development effort in the shortest period of time. In order to
attain this goal there are several areas of concern that Maven attempts
 to deal with:
 .
* Making the build process easy
* Providing a uniform build system
* Providing quality project information
* Providing guidelines for best practices development
* Allowing transparent migration to new features
 .
This package ships the necessary modules to be able to test Maven Plugins.

Description : configuration helper daemon for kernel-space ISATAP
(RFC5214) IPv6-in-IPv4 tunneling support

isatapd creates and maintains an ISATAP tunnel (rfc5214) in Linux.

It uses the in-kernel ISATAP support first introduced in linux-2.6.25. It does
NOT operate the tunnel or handle any IPv6 traffic, it only sets up the tunnel
parameters, the Potential Router List, sends periodic router solicitations and
tries to detect link changes.

Submitters note: I've already created proof-of-concept .debs. At the moment
they are located in the Ubuntu PPA, but build fine on Lenny.

Bug#535025: readahead-fedora: Fedora's implementation of readahead to preload boot process files

2009-06-28 Thread Raphael Geissert
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Raphael Geissert atom...@gmail.com

Package: readahead-fedora
Homepage: https://fedorahosted.org/readahead/
License: GPLv2+
Description: Fedora's implementation of readahead to preload boot process
files
readahead is the term used to refer to a tool that preloads files
used during the boot process to make the system boot faster, therefore
reducing the time spent reading from the disk.
 .
This implementation of the tool provides the following features:
  * It can take multiple lists of files to be preloaded, and sort them
according to their position on the disk.
  * It preloads the inode tables of ext2 file systems.
  * It opens the files without making the system update their access
time, therefore avoiding extra disk writes.
  * It uses a lightweight monitoring daemon.
