Bug#496326: Review of the copyright file of gwibber_1.2.0+bzr349-3.dsc.
user debian-le...@lists.debian.org usertags 496326 - copyright-review-requested usertags 496326 one-copyright-review thanks Dear Filip and Kartik, Here is a copyright review for gwibber_1.2.0+bzr349-3.dsc. I found that the information about the file jquery.js is missing in debian/copyright. Moreover, jquery.js is present in six copies in Gwibber's source, which will bring inconvenience in case of security updates, and more importantly jquery.js is not distributed with its original upstream sources, see ‘http://code.google.com/p/jqueryjs/source/browse/#svn/trunk/jquery’. Since it is distributed under a dual GPL|MIT license, this is legally acceptable, but it does not fit well the spirit of Debian. Note that jQuery is shipped in the Debian libjs-jquery package, so there would be an easy way to solve the problem of code duplication (although it would be safest to doublecheck with Upstream if Gwibber is not dependant to a particular version of jQuery). Here are additional issues: The translation are Copyright (c) 2009 Rosetta Contributors and Canonical Ltd 2009 (but some are missing information). If the gwibber.1 manpage is really released under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 license, then you have to include a complete copy in debian/copyright. But maybe it would be better to cross-check with Upstream if they really meant this? The current manpage is anyway so trivial for the moment that it is probably not copyrightable… You mention the GPL V2.1 in debian/copyrighty, but surely meant V2. Bug#537623: ITP: busybox-syslogd -- Provides syslogd and klogd using busybox' implementation
Package: wnpp Owner: Axel Beckert Severity: wishlist * Package name: busybox-syslogd Version : 0.1 Author : Axel Beckert * URL or Web page : http://noone.org/hg/busybox-syslogd/ * License : GPL-2+ Description : Provides syslogd and klogd using busybox' implementation Debian's busybox package has the syslogd and klogd functionalities already compiled in, but to use them, a little bit more than a few symbolic links is needed. This package provides the appropriate dependencies, the symbolic links for syslogd and klogd, man pages (also symlinks), and init.d scripts. Additionally it provides the logread utility (yet another symlink) which allows to read the syslog if stored in a ring buffer in memory instead of on disk. This is something AFAIK no other syslog package in Debian currently offers. So this package fills the gap of a syslogd for e.g. SSD or flash based systems which don't want or need permanent (local) storage of the system log, but needs access to the recent syslog anyway, i.e. netbooks, laptops, wireless routers, etc. Another advantage for low-resource or embedded systems is that it only needs very few disk space to install. Bubble babble is a method of representing a message digest as a string of "real" words, to make the fingerprint easier to remember. The "words" are not necessarily real words, but they look more like words than a string of hex characters. . Bubble babble fingerprinting is used by the SSH2 suite (and, consequently, by Net::SSH::Perl, the Perl SSH implementation) to display easy-to-remember key fingerprints. The key (a DSA or RSA key) is converted into a textual form, digested using Digest::SHA1, and run through bubblebabble to create the key fingerprint. Bug#537587: ITP: makeup -- The anti-ageing build system
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Ron Package name: makeup Version : 0.21 Upstream Author : Ron License : GPLv2, with an exception for the generated files to be used under whatever licence the project it's building uses. Programming Lang: make, m4 (autoconf) Description : The anti-ageing build system Makeup is a build system creation/maintainance tool requiring minimal dependencies beyond that already installed on a system using GNU make and the auto* tools, but which aims to make life much easier for anyone maintaining such a thing for several non-trivial projects. . Targets of the build are defined in terms of their attributes, making it trivial to quickly propagate build system fixes, new functional targets, and new system support, between many otherwise separate projects. Changes that have been shared are made available at the next project build. And so before anyone asks, this isn't yet another attempt to rewrite autoconf, rather it's a way to maintain an autoconf build system across many packages. Over the years I found myself continually refining the boilerplate that I would use for new projects, and perpetually annoyed that I hadn't yet 'backported' some new nicety to older projects. This means I get to make those changes once and each time I go to build some old project I haven't looked at for a while, it reminds me what new things I'm missing and offers to merge them. It doesn't reinvent anything, it just lets me be lazier and more thorough about keeping it all up to date, without getting dragged screaming into automake and libtool crack. Projects don't have to depend on it, like autoconf, it gets out of the way for end users once it's done its thing for developers. I've been plugging away with this since about 2003 in its latest incarnation, and for several years before that in a few others, so it's probably about time to think of sharing it around to anyone who might also find it useful. I'll probably also have a few packages using it on their way before too much longer as well ... It allows one to restrict the dimensions of an image by checking to see if the image is larger than the desired final dimensions, and if so, provide a way to scale the image down proportionally so it fits within the constraints. It can set constraints based on width, height, or both, and is guaranteed to return dimensions that are proportional to the original -- that is, they will have the same aspect ratio. I no longer use this package much, and it needs a lot more care than I have the time or inclination to provide these days (including an upgrade to the latest upstream version). OProfile is used by quite by quite a few folks so it deserves to have a good home. The package description is: OProfile is a performance profiling tool for Linux systems, capable of profiling all running code at low overhead. It consists of a daemon for collecting sample data, plus several post-profiling tools for turning data into information. Using OProfile also requires a kernel module, either contained in a separate package called 'oprofile-modules' for 2.2 and 2.4 kernels, or for 2.6 kernels, the OProfile kernel module is part of the Linux kernel source and must be built from the 'kernel-source' package. . OProfile leverages the hardware performance counters of the x86 CPU and the PMU (Performance Monitoring Unit) of the ia64 CPU to enable profiling of a wide variety of interesting statistics, which can also be used for basic time-spent profiling. All code is profiled: hardware and software interrupt handlers, kernel modules, the kernel, shared libraries, and applications (the only exception being the OProfile interrupt handler itself). Note that different architectures can use different hardware mechanisms to collect data. . OProfile is currently in alpha status; however it has proven stable over a large number of differing configurations.
