Bug#541106: ITP: trend -- a general-purpose, efficient trend graph

progressive or time-based data series together with trivial
scripting.

trend, though, is such a *generic* term.

Well, I cannot argue with that, but it doesn't seem to conflict with
anything I'm aware of (that includes non packaged software since at
least 2004).

A package has been included in Scientific Linux 4 with the same name.

I honestly don't know what to do about this.

Bug#541209: Request for libicu metapackage

2009-08-12 Thread K.S. Bhaskar

Package: wnpp

ICU for Unicode support is currently available as libicu36, libicu38,
libicu40, etc. This makes it hard to package an application that simply
needs ICU with a minimum version level. I would like to request a
libicu metapackage that depends on libicu36|libicu38|libicu40, etc. to
make it easier for me to package GT.M. Thank you for your consideration.

Description: GNU Spell, a clone of Unix `spell'
GNU Spell is a spell checking program which prints each misspelled word
on a
line of its own. It is designed as a clone of the standard Unix `spell'
program, and implemented as a wrapper for Ispell. Spell accepts as its
arguments a list of files to read from. Within that list, the magical
file name
`-' causes Spell to read from standard input. In addition, when called
with no
file name arguments, Spell assumes that it should process standard input.

Bug#524790: Fwd: Re: Fwd: Built a package for fio

2009-08-12 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hi Jens, Hendrik and Michael!

I am forwarding this to the bug report as it is my review of the differences
of my package and the one built by you, Hendrik.

I already updated my package to fio-1.32. I will send a mail about this after
this one.

After updating my package today, I found that Hendrik send me a subversion URL
for fetching his package in a mail to me and Jens Axboe only - as the above
review it didn't went to this bug report:

Martin, feel free to fetch the package source from
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/fio or
svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/collab-maint/ext-maint
You are very welcome to get/check/fix things there

The HTTP URL seems to be (note the slash at the end):

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/fio/

But I still did not get it checked out:

m...@mango:~/lokal/Debian LANG=C svn checkout
http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/fio/
svn: XML data was not well-formed

Maybe the WebDAV/SVN HTTP URL is different?

I included the examples as documentation in my package already, but I like to
compare Copyright files as well. Any hint on how to checkout the package from
Hendrik?

Information of my current package will follow shortly.

Ciao,
Martin

This is already fixed in my packages.

They are nearly ready for upload.
I just have to remove the .git/ from the source to get it clean for Debian.

Martin, feel free to fetch the package source from
 http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/collab-maint/ext-maint/fio or
 svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/collab-maint/ext-maint
You are very welcome to get/check/fix things there :)

I had a look at the web url as I don't have SSH access to debian hosts.

I have a couple of comments / suggestions:

1) Could you add my manpage for fio_generate_plots? It helps making the
package lintian clean and I think it adds some value for the end user as
well. That might be something for you, Jens, as well, to integrate upstream.

2) Your doc file is missing out the HOWTO and REPORTING-BUGS files. I attached
my version. I am not completely sure about REPORTING-BUGS, but the HOWTO
seems to be quite interesting.

3) Does a docbase entry for the HOWTO makes sense? I attached mine.

4) I used priority optional, since I think this package wouldn't conflict with
any other package.

5) I added a Suggests: gnuplot since the bash script fio_generate_plots would
like to have it.

I missed out the examples and your copyright file is better done as well -
that seems to be the new machine readable format I read about somewhere. Also
the rules file look interestingly short. cdbs appears to be really nice
stuff. ;)

I can't do any of above changes myself as I have no write access to that SVN
repository. I would do any changes that you agree with, Hendrik, otherwise.

Bug#524790: Updated debian package for fio

2009-08-12 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hendrik, I will drop you from CC next time, unless you write me you still want
to follow this.

Hi Michael!

I updated my Debian package to fio-1.32.

I switched it to git-buildpackage.

You can get and build it like follows:

m...@mango:~/Zeit/fio history | tail -8
 1197 git clone git://github.com/martin21/fio.git
 1198 cd fio
 1199 git branch -a
 1200 git checkout -b upstream origin/upstream
 1201 git checkout -b pristine-tar origin/pristine-tar
 1202 git checkout master
 1203 git-buildpackage
 1204 history | tail

I also put it for download at:

http://people.teamix.net/~ms/debian/lenny/fio/

Aside from the differing copyright file - Hendrik's is in the new format - and
the fact that Hendriks package is done via cdbs I think my package has all
and more than Hendriks.

I developed the package on Lenny, but I used pbuilder to verify that it builts
okay under unstable and that the build dependencies are sufficient.

Michael, please review. I am at the office again beginning next week, so I
subscribed to this bug report via my private address.

I am happy to put it onto alioth or somewhere - need to get started on how to
approach that tough. I'd prefer git over subversion for maintaining the
package.

Hello,

just wanted to let you know that the Ubuntu NGO team started working on
packaging CiviCRM and completed the packaging of php-db-dataobject.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NGO/ApplicationPackaging has more information
about the effort.

Source package available at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-ngo/+archive/ppa

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-ngo/+archive/ppa/+files/php-db-dataobject_1.8.12-0ubuntu1~ppa1.dsc

I got in touch with the PHP DB DataObject upstream developers because a
few files were licensed under PHP 3.0, but that's resolved in version
1.8.12 now - it's all PHP 3.01, so it should be ready to go.

I'm CCing the Debian PHP Maintainers and hope they are interested in the
package too.

Have a great day - I hope it is useful to you and can be included in
Debian as well.

subscribed to this bug report via my private address.

Initial reviewing done. Find fixes against git tree attached as git
patches. (Tip: use lintian from unstable to verify your package.)
Please review on your own and apply what you acknowledge, ping me if
you think the package is ready for upload to Debian then.

@Jens: the first patch
(0001-fio.1-fix-hyphen-used-as-minus-sign.patch) addresses a minor
issue in the manpage. Please feel free to apply it in your upstream
source.

I am happy to put it onto alioth or somewhere - need to get
started on how to approach that tough.

Check out http://wiki.debian.org/Alioth/Git (Collab Maint
project).

I'd prefer git over subversion for maintaining the
 package.

git is perfect and fine for me.

Thanks Martin, good packaging work.

regards,

Hi all,

Aug 27 23:00:49 Baby yup, we have to rename it too as iceweasel?

Text::DHCPLeases provides an object-oriented interface to ISC DHCPD leases
files.
The goal is to objectify all declarations, as defined by the ISC dhcpd package
man pages.

This interface is useful for analyzing, reporting, converting lease files,
or as a tool for other applications that need to import dhcpd lease data
estructures.

At the moment yes, Turnin-NG provides /usr/bin/project since that's what the
original turnin / project app provided. However, I can either:
  1) Rename the project script to something else upstream.
  2) Rename it in the Debian package and add a note to README.Debian.

I'm not sure which I prefer. #1 has the advantage of being consistent across
 all
distributions. #2 makes it so that if someone else wants to move away from
 SPARC
and use Turnin-NG as a direct replacement for their old binaries, they can.

 What do you think?

I'd rename it upstream, less troubles for everyone. It's of course
unfortunate that the original program was named like that, but I don't
think continuing to take over such generic name is good in general. You
could still document that in the Description, and README.Debian maybe
also including a recipe for sites that might want to create for example
a compat symlink under /usr/local for transitional purposes, or something
to that effect.

For the upstream part you could also do a slow transition, provide a
«project» wrapper that prints a warning on stderr notifying the user
about it being obsolete and pointing to the new name, the executing
the actual program. The wrapper could be shipped for a period of time
before complete removal, and installed only if enabled via some
configure flag (or make target, as in “make install-obsolete”). Or
just document the rename.

thanks,
guillem

Bug#541239: ITP: GT.M -- Database Engine with Extreme Scalability and Robustness

2009-08-12 Thread K.S. Bhaskar
Package: wnpp

Owner: K.S. Bhaskar ks.bhas...@fnis.com

* Package name: GT.M
  Version : V5.3-004A
  Upstream Author : K.S. Bhaskar ks.bhas...@fnis.com
* URL : http://fis-gtm.com
* License : AGPL v3
Programming Lang: C with some modules in x86 assembly language
Description : Database Engine with Extreme Scalability and Robustness

GT.M is a database engine with scalability proven in large real-time
transaction processing systems that have thousands of concurrent
users, individual database file sizes to the Terabyte range (with
virtually unlimited aggregate database sizes). Yet the light
footprint of GT.M allows it to also scale down for use in small
applications and software appliances (virtual machines).

The GT.M data model is hierarchical associative memory (i.e.,
multi-dimensional array) that imposes no restrictions on the data
types of the indexes or content - the application logic can impose
any schema, dictionary or data organization suited to its problem
domain. (Database engines that do not impose schemas, but which
allow layered application software to impose and use whatever schema
that is appropriate to the application are popularly referred to as
document oriented, schemaless or schema-free databases.)

GT.M's compiler for the standard M (also known as MUMPS) scripting
language implements full support for ACID (Atomic, Consistent,
Isolated, Durable) transactions, using optimistic concurrency control
and software transactional memory (STM) that resolves the common
mismatch between databases and programming languages. Its unique
ability to create and deploy logical multi-site configurations of
applications provides unrivaled continuity of business in the face of
not just unplanned events, but also planned events, including planned
events that include changes to application logic and schema.

Community support forums for GT.M can be found at
 http://sourceforge.net/projects/fis-gtm and support with assured
service levels on commercial terms can be purchased from

Developed by WorldVistA (http://worldvista.org) and released under GPL

health care information system (HIS) developed by the US Department of
Veterans Affairs, and in the public domain through the US Freedom of

and passed inspection of 100 percent of a set of criteria for
functionality (ability to create and manage electronic records for all
patients, as well as automating workflow in a physician's office),
interoperability (a first step in the ability to receive and send
electronic data to other entities such as laboratories), and security
(ability to keep patients' information safe).

Note: Downloading and installing the software is not sufficient and

Description : Real time health care information system including
electronic health record

VistA is the complete health care information system (HIS) which is
developed and used by the US Department of Veterans Affairs to run all
of its hospitals and clinics. It is in the public domain through the
US Freedom of Information Act. Versions are also in use both in the
US and internationally, including the US Department of Defense, the US
Indian Health Service, the Mexican Instituto Mexicano del Seguro
Social, etc. There are also flavors of VistA provided by WorldVistA
(http://worldvista.org) and Medsphere (http://medsphere.org).

I intend to create a VistA meta package that can be satisfied by other
packages, such as WorldVistA EHR or OpenVista.

Bug#541239: ITP: GT.M -- Database Engine with Extreme Scalability and Robustness

you should not use capitals in the short description except for proper
names.

Community support forums for GT.M can be found at
  http://sourceforge.net/projects/fis-gtm and support with assured
service levels on commercial terms can be purchased from
  gtmsupp...@fnis.com.

This long description is incredibly long; I would suggest refining it in
consultation with debian-l10n-english.

No. It is in the public domain through the US Copyright Act[1]. FOIA
merely gave you access to a copy of it (assuming that was how it was
acquired: a brief search does not support that claim).

Bug#541239: ITP: GT.M -- Database Engine with Extreme Scalability and Robustness

2009-08-12 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi,

thanks for the ITP. It is really a long time ago that my RFP
(http://bugs.debian.org/175968) was closed without any action.
I have a single comment: The short description has an advertisement
style and should be more informative like

Database Engine optimised for medical care applications

if this is correct or something like this. The features
Extreme Scalability and Robustness do not really help any
user who has no idea about GT.M.

Kind regards

 Andreas.

Just one minor problem: the copyright sign in your git commit isn't
UTF-8, which should be used nowadays in debian maintainer scripts.
Fix it via running:

  iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8 debian/copyright debian/copyright.new

I've attached a patch (which also changes another '(C)' to '©') that
addresses the issue so you can verify the result. Then the package
should be lintian clean.

and passed inspection of 100 percent of a set of criteria for
functionality (ability to create and manage electronic records for all
patients, as well as automating workflow in a physician's office),
interoperability (a first step in the ability to receive and send
electronic data to other entities such as laboratories), and security
(ability to keep patients' information safe).

Bug#541239: ITP: GT.M -- Database Engine with ExtremeScalability and Robustness

2009-08-12 Thread K.S. Bhaskar

Andreas --

Would you consider Database engine with ACID transactions, scalability
to TB databases, thousands of concurrent processes, to implement
geographically separate logical multi-site applications? I suspect
that would be too long, but I am trying to capture the essence of GT.M
in one line. Below is more detail on what it is we would like to
capture about GT.M in the summary.

GT.M is not optimized for health care applications! In fact, although
it is increasingly used in health care, it is currently used worldwide
more in banking / financial applications than in health care (including
what is, to the best of my knowledge, the largest single system real
time core processing system that is in live production at any bank
anywhere in the world). As another non-medical example, with the M/DB
software layered on it (see http://mgateway.com), GT.M is used to create
an API compatible FOSS alternative to the Amazon Simple DB.

The important distinguishing characteristics of GT.M are:

1. Schemaless hierarchical associative memory database engine.

2. Fully ACID (Atomic, Consistent, Isolated, Durable) transactions using
an STM (Software Transaction Memory) optimistic concurrency control model.

3. Databases that scale (and are regularly used in production) to the
hundreds of GB and small TB range with hundreds to thousands of
concurrent users.

4. Software infrastructure (built on streaming replication) to and
deploy logical multi-site configurations of applications.

5. Compiler for the MUMPS (also known as M) language - it is this that
attracts the health care IT community and you.

Hi,

thanks for the ITP. It is really a long time ago that my RFP

I have a single comment: The short description has an advertisement

Database Engine optimised for medical care applications

if this is correct or something like this. The features
Extreme Scalability and Robustness do not really help any
user who has no idea about GT.M.

Description : Database Engine with Extreme Scalability and
Robustness

Sorry everyone, but MySpace has its own special music interests now, and this
program can't play nice with their new business model. It's going to be hard
enough for them to be profitable without some script out there that can grab
content without watching ads. So getmsmp3 is officially abandoned. Sorry!

Bug#536502: Debian status of crda wireless-regdb?

2009-08-12 Thread Paul Wise
Hi Kel,

I saw a mention of CRDA in my kernel boot messages and I was wondering
what the status of your crda wireless-regdb packages is, any info?

I note the release team's original freeze for squeeze is close and it
would be a shame to leave crda and wireless-regdb out of squeeze.

PS: you should file an ITP for wireless-regdb and retitle #536502 to ITP

Description: PNG file format checker
pngcheck verifies the integrity of PNG, JNG and MNG files (by checking the
internal 32-bit CRCs or checksums) and optionally dumps almost all of the
chunk-level information in the image in human-readable form. For example, it
can be used to print the basic stats about an image (dimensions, bit depth,
etc.); to list the color and transparency info in its palette; or to extract
the embedded text annotations. All PNG and JNG chunks are supported, plus
almost all MNG chunks (everything but PAST, DISC, tERm, DROP, DBYK, and
ORDR). This is a command-line program with batch capabilities (e.g.,
 ``pngcheck *.png'').
