Bug#536879: nel -- Massive multi-user 3D game environments library + mtp-target -- clone of the Monkey Target game

2009-10-14 Thread Gürkan Sengün

Hello

Actually lubos (#nel on freenode) packaged/updated these packages,
but he is not a Debian Maintainer yet is interested in updating and
maintaing these packages, including mtp-target. If there's anyone
with a bit of free capacity, please contact me or lubos to see how
to get these packages updated/into Debian.

I got a recent version of his nel/snowballs packages here:
http://gnu.ethz.ch/debian/nel/NEW/

Here's his last mail to me:

Hi,
I have new packages here: www.kypr.org/debian . Both use quilt and dh and nel
generate package libnel-doc. Michal Cihas help us with NeL. His work is here:
http://people.debian.org/~nijel/pkg/

Best regards
Lubos Novak

Yours,
Guerkan

Did you either:
- understood why cgal had to patch core++
- check what were the differences
- is upstream willing to use a newer core++ dist if this match with
dev. of core++

Thanks

That's not a consequence.

it's a very minimalistic list of thinks to change. Not cheking (very
simple bugs) to close in an upload is not playing fine with debian.

Not with that upload.

The package is filed since mid-September, and fix this would have take
10 minutes (including building the package, install it and check it's
workng). It's not RC because py2.6 is still in experimental, because
the maintainer doesn't want to upload until everything is fixed. Did
you know that? I do, that's why I'm complaining.

I don't care: you must be able to maintain a package, and if you're
not, then you shouldn't ask to sponsor that package. Li, *do not*
sponsor people not able to actually maintain a packge: it's not
helpful, and coming from the same part of the world should not be an
excuse to reduce the quality of Debian.

Wen, fix that bug or I'll upload the package as a QA upload, removing
you from the maintainer field, since you have admitted you can't
maintain it as it should.

Reply asap.

after the adoption, things become better, not worse, so take it easy.

I have checked the package prepared by wenheping, it fulfill my rules:

1. has a watch file
2. lintian clean
3. good document in debian/changelog
4. correct debian/copyright.

so I upload it.

And I don't think wenheping is not a qualified debian package maintainer.

and last question, why wenheping ask me sponsor this package?
just because we live in the same timezone, so we have much more
common time on the IRC. Don't think too much on this, :)

We powered Debian, We are improving the quality of Debian, not reducing.

as in the NMU rule, give the maintainer one or two week will be
better, and it's not a critical bug, so take it easy (again).

Bug#550950: ITP: stx-btree-dev -- b+tree implementation in c++

2009-10-14 Thread Ury Stankevich
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

homepage: http://idlebox.net/2007/stx-btree/
License: GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 (LGPL).

Summary

The STX B+ Tree package is a set of C++ template classes implementing
a B+ tree key/data container in main memory. The classes are designed
as drop-in replacements of the STL containers set, map, multiset and
multimap and follow their interfaces very closely. By packing multiple
value pairs into each node of the tree the B+ tree reduces heap
fragmentation and utilizes cache-line effects better than the standard
red-black binary tree. The tree algorithms are based on the
implementation in Cormen, Leiserson and Rivest's Introduction into
Algorithms, Jan Jannink's paper and other algorithm resources.

Bug#542789: why do we need this

2009-10-14 Thread Peter Antoniac
> Just wanted to ask for some reasons,.. as I see some ubuntufication of

Well, we have to make sure that there are no ubuntufications there. The Debian
reasons are that the ubuntu-dev-tools contains some scripts/apps that are
useful with sbuild tool (like bootstrapping, lvm images, etc.). It is about
those tools and some others[1] that could be a good contribution to debian
tools.

Bug#550954: ITP: alien-hunter -- Interpolated Variable Order Motifs to identify horizontally acquired DNA

2009-10-14 Thread Andreas Tille
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andreas Tille

* Package name: alien-hunter
  Version : 1.7
  Upstream Author : George Vernikos
* URL : http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/analysis/alien_hunter/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Perl, Java
Description : Interpolated Variable Order Motifs to identify horizontally
acquired DNA

Alien_hunter is an application for the prediction of putative
Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT) events with the implementation of
Interpolated Variable Order Motifs (IVOMs). An IVOM approach
exploits compositional biases using variable order motif distributions
and captures more reliably the local composition of a sequence compared
to fixed-order methods. Optionally the predictions can be parsed into a
2-state 2nd order Hidden Markov Model (HMM), in a change-point detection
framework, to optimize the localization of the boundaries of the
predicted regions. The predictions (embl format) can be automatically
loaded into Artemis genome viewer freely available at:
 http://www.sanger.ac.uk/Software/Artemis/.
 .
The manuscript describing the alien_hunter algorithm is available
from Bioinformatics: Interpolated variable order motifs for
identification of horizontally acquired DNA: revisiting the
Salmonella pathogenicity islands. Vernikos GS, Parkhill J
 Bioinformatics. 2006;. PMID: 16837528

I intend to maintain this package in the Debian Med Packaging Team.
Packaging stuff is just commited to

Yes I use it. I have saw some debian package that use it verbatim (without
build depend) will check and open bug in this case (policy violation)

Hi,
would you like to package this as part of the pkg-gstreamer team? I
could give you SVN access.

I had this on my to-package list since some time already but didn't get
to it yet. I'd be happy to review and sponsor your package.

Sure, sure. Sorry.

It was late at night and I just needed to send those RFP's since I'm
working a lot with DjVu files and your programs *need* more exposure and

Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request an adopter for the slashem package.

The package description is:
Super Lotsa Added Stuff Hack - Extended Magic (SLASH'EM)
is a role-playing game where you control a single character. The
interface and gameplay are similar in style to Rogue, ADOM, Angband
and, of course, Nethack. You control the actions through the
keyboard and view the world from an overhead perspective.

It has a somehow complicated build system, building the package multiple times
with different build options to make multiple frontends. Upstream is kind of
sleeping since december 2006.

I think there is a handful of nethack's variants in the archive. They might be
enough alike that some common packaging-team might be an idea, but I havn't the
time to participate.

Bug#550777:

2009-10-14 Thread Joachim Reichel
Hi Mathieu,

> Did you either:
> - understood why cgal had to patch core++

There was a time when CGAL used the CORE library as external package.
But at some time around the 1.7 release the development of CORE was very
slow (and probably still is). I.e., the code did not compile with
current gcc versions; there were knowns bugs with patches provided, but
no bugfix releases; different (pre-)releases with the same version
number. In short, using an external CORE package as released from
upstream caused too many problems and it was decided to switch to an
internal copy of the sources.

> - check what were the differences

There were quite some changes and I did not check them all. Some of the
changes are bug fixes, and in parts exist as patches in the core++
package. Some of the changes made the code compile with recent gcc and
can be -in this or a different form- found in the core++ package as a
patch. I bet there are also changes which are not present in the core++
package.

Part of the problem is to identify the exact CORE version that was
included in the CGAL sources. Unfortunately, the CORE project made
several (pre-)releases without changing the version number :-(

> - is upstream willing to use a newer core++ dist if this match with
> dev. of core++

I haven't noticed such plans on the mailing list. CORE is not a strict
dependency of the CGAL library. CGAL can be used without CORE, but
looses some parts of its functionality then. From time to time there are
vague ideas to drop CORE support completely.

Joachim

“Press Edit and go fulfill your dreams!”.
Now features new game modes such as sidescroller,

The name 'sandbox' is too generic. Can you change it to 'sandboxgamemaker'?

Yes.
This "Yes" is NOT a special answer only for Debian.

Ok, thanks. You should have write access to pkg-gstreamer now at
svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-gstreamer

If you place the transmageddon packaging there, put it into unstable,
similar to everything else there :)
And if you want me to review the packaging and sponsor it just tell me
