Description: log monitoring and reporting tool
 Tenshi is a log monitoring program, designed to watch one or more log files
 for lines matching user defined regular expressions and report on the matches.
 The regular expressions are assigned to queues which have an alert interval
 and a list of mail recipients.
 .
 Queues can be set to send a notification as soon as there is a log line
 assigned to it, or to send periodic reports.
 .
 Additionally, uninteresting fields in the log lines (such as PID numbers) can
 be masked with the standard regular expression grouping operators ( ).
 This allows cleaner and more readable reports. All reports are separated by
 hostname and all messages are condensed when possible.
 .
 The program reads a configuration file and then forks a daemon for monitoring
 the specified log files.

Oh, I see. Clearly, I didn't consult the Python policy. It seems a bit
strange (even confusing) to me, but if this is the current best
practice in the Debian Python community then I will not argue
otherwise.

Thanks for your patience and clarification of this.

Source packages names are different from binary packages names: did
you read Python policy about that?

Just to make a real example:

$ apt-cache show python-zope.proxy | egrep "^Package|^Source"

Do people still use RCS, other than through CVS?

Strange, I've never seen a package name with a dot in it prior to the
version number. A casual listing from:
$ apt-cache search . | cut -d" " -f1 | grep "\."

doesn't seem to turn anything up.

Perhaps you can consider packaging it as lazr-restfulclient instead?

I know for Perl modules that we use a lib-perl pattern.
I'm not sure if something similar exists for Python.

I don't use this package any more and I don't really have the time to
keep it in good shape in a timely fashion.

I should be able to export the package from my private subversion
repository into one on svn.debian.org, and I have an Ubuntu MOTU who
has expressed an interest in helping out too.

Bug#479951: RFH: kvm -- Full virtualization on x86 hardware

2009-10-16 Thread Michael Tokarev

Jan, I'm trying to reach you for over half a year already
(since about Feb-2009). For some reason you don't reply
to my emails.

I even tried to hijack kvm package sending request to
debian-mentors@, -- not reading the rules, and it was
in any way an attempt to offend you or something like.

Basically, I maintain kvm locally for quite some time
already, http://www.corpit.ru/debian/tls/kvm/ - since
the versions in Debian are quite old and buggy and has
numerous bugs and stability issues.

The package(s) on the given URL are ready to use with
almost complete rewrite of build system (due to the
issues resulting from all the .bin files in original
sources).

I'm doing this because I need working kvm for local
usage anyway (hence I'm forced to maintain it locally),
and because alot of people in #kvm support channel
on freenode asking about issues with kvm in lenny or
in sid, and almost all these issues are fixed long
ago in more recent upstream versions.

Can we please resolve this situation somehow? The
amount of issues people are facing, and the amount
of people who face the issues are quite high, at
least from my expirence in #kvm. The packages are
ready to be uploaded, modulo a few possible issues
which can be discussed. You can take it all or parts,
you can take stuff and incorporate into your versions
or anything - I don't really care as long as it will
finally work.

Thanks!

/mjt

I concur. I'm actually working on a project right now (called "blame")
that does something completely different: aggregate sources of spam and
other network attacks (such as SSH bruteforcing) and automatically
create and modify configuration files to block them.

Probably a less generic name (for both this software and mine) would be
appropriate.

As much as I do like this software as it turned out to be useful to me
in several cases, I'm not sure using the generic 'blame' name is a
good idea. Probably rcs-blame (with or without dash, you choose) would
be better IMHO.

Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andrew Pollock

* Package name: blame
  Version : 1.3.1
  Upstream Author : Michael Chapman
* URL : http://blame.sourceforge.net/

  Programming Lang: C
  Description : display the last modification for each line in an RCS file

 Blame is the equivalent for CVS's annotate command.
 .

 added to the file, and the author of each line.

Speaking of differences from dwm I can name some:
* Xft
* more layouts
* titlebars with buttons
* layout-per-tag
* EWMH
* no bar
* Xrandr, not Xinerama
* no extra dependencies (awesome has 27 dependencies)

Well, I don't really care much to start debating, just read somewhere
on debian.org that you can package any software which is free. No
means no, sorry for the noise. Keep up the good work.

Bug#551187: ITP: rudel -- A collaborative editing framework for GNU Emacs

2009-10-16 Thread RISKÓ Gergely
Package: wnpp
Version: N/A; reported 2009-10-16
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: rudel
Version: 0.2-2
Upstream Author: Jan Moringen
* URL: http://rudel.sourceforge.net/
* License: GPL v3
Description:
Rudel is a collaborative editing environment for GNU Emacs. It supports
multiple backends to enable communication with other collaborative
editors using different protocols (most notably Gobby).

Currently Debian only include eieio 1.0pre4, but for Rudel pre6 is
needed, I will do some packaging work first on Rudel with a local pre6
installation, and when I'm done I will try to convince the cedet
maintainers to update to a newer version if it doesn't happen by then.

On the long run probably we will be able to remove cedet and this
package too from Debian when Rudel will be accepted in emacs mainline.

Bug#551180: ITP: mp3diags -- find issues in MP3 files and help to solve them

2009-10-16 Thread Alessio Treglia
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Alessio Treglia

* Package name: mp3diags
  Version : 0.99.06.041
  Upstream Author : Marian Ciobanu
* URL : http://mp3diags.sourceforge.net
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
  Description : find issues in MP3 files and help to solve them

 MP3 Diags is a GUI-based application that allows end-users to identify issues
 with their MP3 files, fix some of the issues and make other changes, like
 adding track information. It also allows user to "look inside" an MP3 file.
 .
 Unlike some programs that are designed to deal with a single topic (like
 fixing VBR headers or adding cover art), MP3 Diags is a one stop solution
 that identifies more than 50 different issues in MP3 files and provides the
 means to fix many of them.
 .
 Some of the more important issues that are found:
 .
  * Broken tags / headers / audio.
  * Duplicate tags / headers.
  * Incorrect placement of tags / headers (ID3V2, ID3V1, LAME, Xing, etc).
  * Low quality audio.
  * Missing VBR header.
  * Missing track info / cover art.
  * Broken track info / cover art.
  * Missing normalization data.
  * Character encoding issues (for languages other than English).
 .
 Some of the fixes and changes that MP3 Diags can do:
 .
  * Adding / fixing track info, including album cover; information can be
retrieved from several sources: Internet, clipboard, file name, local
files, and (obviously) keyboard.
  * Correcting files that show incorrect song duration.
  * Correcting files in which the player cannot seek correctly.
  * Converting characters for non-English names.
  * Adding composer name to the artist field, for players that don't handle
the composer field.
  * Renaming files based on their fields.
  * Changing word case for track info.

In Xresource format != via X resources. I don't see why a particular
file format is a sufficient reason to one WM or the other.

I think that at least in this case, this window manager is unique enough
to justify inclusion. There are surely many tiling window managers,
which fall into groupable categories (StumpWM/Ratpoison, XMonad,
dwm/awesome). Julien has done a great job developing awesome, and it
probably deserves its own category separate from dwm. Echinus falls into
the final category it seems, being similar to dwm. And it offers a clear
advantage: configuration via .Xresources (does any other WM support
this?) rather than via recompilation. I think this gives sufficient
reason for inclusion.
