Bug#556440: ITP: tuxcmd-modules-unrar -- unrar VFS module for tuxcmd file manager

2009-11-15 Thread Salvatore Bonaccorso
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Salvatore Bonaccorso

* Package name: tuxcmd-modules-unrar
  Version : 0.6.70
  Upstream Author : TomáB?atek
* URL : http://tuxcmd.sourceforge.net/download.php
* License : GPL and non-free RAR license
  Programming Lang: C/C++
  Description : unrar VFS module for tuxcmd file manager

 This package contains additional unrar VFS module for tuxcmd.
 .
  * read-only support for RAR archives
  * full support for Unix file and directory permissions
  * password protected archives are supported
  * can handle self-extracting .exe archives (when renamed
 to .rar)

Note:
Upstream for tuxcmd splitted now up tuxcmd-modules into a
tuxcmd-modules and tuxcmd-modules-unrar part. This will alow to keep
tuxcmd-modules in main (previously I repackaged tuxcmd-modules to
remove non-free parts) and have an additional tuxcmd-modules-unrar,
which should be in non-free. This furthermore closes a whishlist
bugreport (#533569).

Sven didn't want to adopt the package. He only did a QA upload. This
package still needs an adopter, so if you're interested, please do so.

Well, really the only reason why I'm even bothering to package this is because
I'm working on an assignment which I want to make sure builds and runs on
CentOS and OSX and making Digest::SHA::PurePerl work would be easier for me
than making Digest::SHA build and run on these other distros. Of course, I
know I didn't need to debianize this module for this particular purpose, but I
thought I would take the time to package it anyway.

For anyone willing to sponsor an upload of this module, I have packages ready
for review and upload at:
git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-perl/packages/libdigest-sha-pureperl-perl.git
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-perl/packages/libdigest-sha-pureperl-
perl.git;a=summary

Thanks in advance.

Please don't. Pure perl packages are not needed in the archive except
for specific corner cases, and this is obviously not one.

Bug#552499: ITP: svox -- Small Footprint TTS

2009-11-15 Thread Jason White
I am also interested in this package.

Unfortunately, this synthesizer is known to segfault while deallocating memory
when compiled under Linux x86-64, whereas this does not occur on 32-bit Arm
and x86 architectures. There is a need for someone with considerable
background and experience to try to track down the cause.

Based on the code which I looked at, it appears that large parts of the
Lingware files are probably derived from data by means of machine learning
algorithms. Consequently, there may be no "source" in any conventional sense
for this material.

There is a press release indicating that tools for building new languages and
voices were part of the contribution by SVOX to Android, but they haven't
appeared publicly as yet.

>From a technical point of view, based on my (admittedly limited) knowledge of
tts, this is a very serious technological contribution to free software.

I am interested in it for accessibility reasons, in particular its potential
to be used with the emacspeak, gnome-orca, speakup and yasr packages, given
the necessary integration efforts.

   * debian/control:
 - Added build dependency on autotools-dev.
   * debian/patches:

   * debian/init:
 - Renamed debian/init.d to debian/init.
 - Added a short description.
 - Forced deletion of the pid file as daemon does not take care of this.
 - Added support for /etc/default/iptotal
 - Added force-start option, to start the daemon, ignoring the content of
   the /etc/default/iptotal file.

 - Reloads apache2 configuration.
 - As installation path has changed in this release, added a temporary

   history loss.
   * debian/copyright:
 - Updated copyright file format.
   * Added apache configuration file (i.e. debian/apache.conf).
   * Added debian/dirs to create both cgi and working directories.
   * Added debian/links to link the static content to the working directory
 (i.e. /usr/lib/iptotal).
   * Added debian/install file in order to clean up the debian/rules file.
   * Added debian/postrm file to reload apache2 configuration after purging
 or removing the iptotal package.
   * Added debian/default file, in order to easily disable iptotald.
 (Closes: #317260)
   * Moved iptotal.8 man page to the debian/ directory as it isn't provided
 by upstream.
   * Added a lintian override of package-contains-empty-directory, as the
 /usr/lib/iptotal/archive/ directory is intentionally created empty during
 the initial installation.

 Crypt::SaltedHash is a Perl module that provides an object oriented interface
 to create salted (or seeded) hashes of clear text data. The formalization of
 this concept originates from RFC-3112 and is extended by the use of different
 digital algorithms.

NOTE: I'm packaging this because of a request from a user via email (see below)

Subject: Crypt::SaltedHash and libcatalyst-modules-perl
To: debian-p...@lists.debian.org

 Hi.

libcatalyst-modules-perl includes
Catalyst::Authentication::Credential::Password,
which - if you use the password_type "salted_has" requires Crypt::SaltedHash.

It would be great if libcatalyst-modules-perl recommended or suggested
the installation of libcrypt-saltedhash-perl - and if Crypt::SaltedHash
was packaged :-)

dh-make-perl builds Crypt::SaltedHash without a hitch.

 Best regards,

  Description : A dynamic Perl interface to gnuplot

 Graphics::GnuplotIF is a simple and easy to use dynamic Perl interface to
 gnuplot. It enables sending display requests asynchronously to gnuplot
 through simple Perl subroutine calls.
 .
 Several independent plots can be started from one script. Each plot has its
 own pipe. All pipes will be closed automatically by the destructor when the
 script terminates. The gnuplot processes terminate when the corresponding
 pipes are closed. Their graphical output will then disappear (but see
 parameter persist|new).

  Description : featureful tool to read values from config files

 cfget is a simple yet featureful tool to read values from configuration
 files. It is useful, for example, to create configurable shellscripts
 or makefiles.
 .
 Besides retrieving values, it can dump the information in several convenient
 ways, like a set of sh exports commands that can be conveniently passed to
 eval. It can also use the configuration values to expand template files.
 .
 It can also be configured to support virtual configuration values that, if not
 present in the config file, are automatically computed from the existing
 values. This makes it convenient, for example, to get a "duration" value from
 a configuration file that only contains a "start date" and an "end date".
 .
 It is also easy to create plugins to provide custom templating systems, export
 styles, dynamic values and even custom configuration file parsers.

(Note: I have no idea what this particular case is about)

PurePerl programs are often useful because they have less risk of
crashing horribly via a segfault. I'm not sure how this applies to
something as well-tested as the Digest::SHA module or the C
implementation of the algorithm.

It should be noted that while all arches can build and run XS modules,
it doesn't preclude a given arch from being unable to build a module
properly. In that case, it's convenient to be able to fall back to a
pure perl equivalent easily.

Neither of these is really convincing (not to me, and probably not to
you), but it's the best I could come up with.

I request an adopter for the vncsnapshot package. I have come to find
it not as useful as it once was. Upstream has been inactive for several
years now. It would not be a bad thing if whomever took over
maintenance of this package also took over upstream maintenance as well.
The package is stable and bug free.

If someone does not come forward to adopt this package by the time Lenny
is released, I will be orphaning it.

The package description is:
 VNC Snapshot is a command-line program for VNC. It will save a JPEG
 image of the VNC server's screen.
 .
 To use this you must be able to connect directly to the VNC server via
 a TCP connection. It does not yet work for connections tunnelled over
 SSH.

Bug#538389: #538389 - ITP: rfkill

2009-11-15 Thread Damyan Ivanov
Hi Darren,

Any movement with rfkill?

I used the after-0.1 git snapshot you have prepared [0] for unblobking
the EeePC's bluetooth device (required with 2.6.31, it seems) and it
works.

[0] http://tartarus.org/~ds/pkg/rfkill_0.1-4-g9429740-1.dsc

I have reviewed the package and it is almost ready. My only remarks
are:

 * debian/copyright doesn't cover rfkill.h
 * Standards-Version shall be updated
 * Upstream has released 0.3 (which BTW includes your man page!)
 * debhelper 7 could be used to greatly simplify debian/rules
 * No reason to use Priority: extra, could be 'optional' as well.

If you feel like correcting the above, I am willing to sponsor the
upload.

Thank you for your work!

* Package name: libdata-dumper-concise-perl
  Version : 1.001
  Upstream Author : Matt S. Trout
* URL : http://search.cpan.org/dist/Data-Dumper-Concise/
* License : Artistic or GPL-1+
  Programming Lang: Perl
  Description : module for more shorter Data::Dumper-like output

 Data::Dumper::Concise is a Perl module designed to produce useful debugging
 output, eliding unnecessary information. It exists as a convenient way to
 reproduce a set of Dumper options useful for most applications.
 .
 A similar module, Data::Dump::Streamer (libdata-dump-streamer) provides even
 shorter output but is overkill for most applications. In comparison, this
 module is Pure Perl, which means it is less likely to segfault.

NOTE: this is needed for the upgrade of DBIx::Class (libdbix-class-perl)

Among other features, it provides robust, incremental replication
with bi-directional conflict detection and resolution, and is queryable
and indexable using a table-oriented view engine with JavaScript
acting as the default view definition language.
Couchdbkit goal is to provide a framework for your Python application
to access and manage Couchdb.
