Bug#509864: RFP: foswiki -- The Free and Open Source Wiki

Mind me asking for progress? I'd really like to see foswiki uploaded
to Debian, and I bet this would increase the number of testers.

It would be great to have foswiki in Debian soon, as twiki is going to be
removed from the distribution most likely : #559353

Good luck foswiki ;)

Thanks in advance.

Expect a new foswiki-ldapcontrib package some day, then : see #511330.

You may be interested to know that twiki is probably going to be RM soon from
Debian, so same will happen for twiki-ldapcontrib I guess.

Please remove twiki. It has long-standing security bugs, has already
been dropped for Lenny and several open RC bugs. It's unmaintained
and we should keep security-buggy packages even in unstable for so
long. If twiki enters Debian again, the package will likely be based on
 the foswiki fork anyway.

FYI, the foswiki ITP is #509864 ... which has not delivered, although there
might be some packages more or less ready.

RIP twiki.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, currently we rather need help on upstreaming our patches. That
means documenting the patches and forwarding them as git patches ready to
be merged in the upstream git repo. You need to subscribe to the
quilt-...@nongnu.org mailing list.

Pleases subcribe to the PTS with the CVS keyword too so that you get git

The iSpy philosophy is to deliver a user-focused high-quality and

 .
CMS is a high-energy physics experiment in Cessy, France, part of
the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
It uses a general-purpose detector to investigate a wide range of
physics, including the search for the Higgs boson, extra dimensions,
and particles that could make up dark matter. Although it has the
same scientific goals as the ATLAS experiment, it uses different
technical solutions and design of its detector magnet system to
 achieve these.
CMS stands for Compact Muon Solenoid: compact because it is “small”
for its enormous weight, muon for one of the particles it detects,
and solenoid for the coil inside its huge superconducting magnet.

Description : netcdf IO support for PDL (Perl Data Language)

This is the PDL interface to the Unidata NetCDF library. It uses the
netCDF version 3 library to make a subset of netCDF functionality
available to PDL users in a clean, object-oriented interface.

Another NetCDF perl interface, which allows access to the entire range
of netCDF functionality (but in a non-object-oriented
style which uses perl arrays instead of PDLs) is available through Unidata
at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/index.html).

The NetCDF standard allows N-dimensional binary data to be efficiently
stored, annotated and exchanged between many platforms.

When one creates a new netCDF object, this object is associated with one
netCDF file.

Description : library to parse proxy auto-config files

a library to parse proxy auto-config (PAC) files. Proxy auto-config files are
a vastly used proxy configuration method these days. Web browsers can use a PAC
file to determine which proxy server to use or whether to go direct for a given
URL. PAC files are written in JavaScript and can be programmed to return
different proxy methods (e.g. PROXY proxy1:port; DIRECT) depending upon URL,
source IP address, protocol, time of the day etc. PAC files introduce a lot of
possibilities. Look at the wikipedia link above to find out more about them.

Description: YAML parser kit -- development files
Syck is a simple YAML parser kit.
 .
YAML(tm) (rhymes with 'camel') is a straightforward machine parsable
data serialization format designed for human readability and
interaction with scripting languages such as Perl and Python. YAML is
optimized for data serialization, formatted dumping, configuration
files, log files, Internet messaging and filtering. This specification
describes the YAML information model and serialization format. Together
with the Unicode standard for characters, it provides all the
information necessary to understand YAML Version 1.0 and construct
 computer programs to process it.
 .
The whole point of Syck is to make parsing and emitting YAML very
simple for scripting languages through C bindings. It doesn't strive
to be a pull parser or very extendible. It just is concerned with
loading a YAML document into a C structure which can be easily
translated into a scripting language's internal native data type.
 .
This package contains headers, and the static library to be included in
your programs or to build bindings from.

I request an adopter for the ras package. I basically never use it
anymore, it was useful in the floppy era but is less so nowadays.

The package description is:
Ras is a program that adds m extra files to a set of n files, such
that the contents of the n original files can be regenerated from any
n of the n+m original files and extra files. Normally, these extra
files will all be 6 bytes larger then the largest of the original
files, but ras has a mode in which the extra files are exactly the
same size as the original files.
 .
Ras was originally intended for transporting a large file split over
several floppy disks in a manner resilient to the corruption of a few
of the disks, and a pair of example shell scripts to do this (rassplit
and rasmerge) is included in the distribution.

Description : A HTTP POE filter for HTTP clients or servers

POE::Filter::HTTP::Parser is a POE::Filter for HTTP which is based on
 HTTP::Parser.
 .
It can be used to easily create POE based HTTP servers or clients.
 .
With the type set to client, which is the default behaviour, get will parse
HTTP::Response objects from HTTP streams and put will accept HTTP::Request
objects and convert them to HTTP streams.
 .
With the type set to server, the reverse will happen. get will parse
HTTP::Request objects from HTTP streams and put will accept HTTP::Response
objects and convert them to HTTP streams. Like POE::Filter::HTTPD if there is
an error parsing the HTTP request, this filter will generate a HTTP::Response
object instead, to encapsulate the error message, suitable for simply sending
 back to the requesting client.

Bug#528247: ITP: python-django-djapian -- Full-text search for Django

2009-12-04 Thread Mikhail Lukyanchenko
2009/11/30 Olly Betts o...@survex.com
Mostly this looks good, but a deeper inspection found a few issues (don't
be scared by the length of this mail - I've tried to provide plenty of
 details):

I can't be scared so easily =)

http://code.google.com/p/djapian/ seems to indicate djapian 2.3 requires
django 1.1 and Xapian 1.0.7.  I don't know if those are actually minimum
requirements (there weren't any changes in xapian-core or the Xapian python
bindings in 1.0.7 which seem a likely explanation) or just what upstream
have tested with, but unless you know better it's probably as well to
follow them.  Neither requirement is a problem for Debian unstable, or
for anyone backporting to lenny (lenny has Xapian 1.0.7 and a backported
 version of django 1.1).

Django 1.0 and xapian 1.0.5 are left from previous djapian version. Fixed.

This line in debian/rules doesn't seem to be used or needed:
 PKG = $(shell dh_listpackages)

I don't remember now where it came from... Suspecting `dh_make`. Fixed.

What's the origin of the licence boilerplate in debian/copyright?  The
upstream sources don't have (C) headers on any of the source files it
appears - the only mention of a licence seems to be in PKG-INFO:

Author: Alex Koshelev, Rafael SDM Sierra
 [...]
 License: New BSD License

Particularly, I don't see where the django-tagging used for the org name
in the third clause comes from.  Google suggests it is an unrelated django
application - is this just a left-over from copying the licence text from
 somewhere?

Yes, it's copypaste from my python-django-tagging effort. Fixed.

Also, the copyright statements must have year(s), or the ftpmasters will
 reject the package:
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html

I use years of first/last commit from Subversion repository. Can it be
considered as a reliable source? Should I mention that source somehow?

Ideally upstream would actually document their licence more explicitly,
and it would be good to politely point out that it would help their users
to do so, but debian/copyright certainly shouldn't invent information
but rather document when and how it was obtained - see License II here:
 http://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html

I have filed issue in upstream bug tracker:
http://code.google.com/p/djapian/issues/detail?id=99 Beside, I have
requested licensing information from one of developers via email.

You might want to consider using the draft machine-readable
debian/copyright format to save yourself work later.  It seems likely
this will be adopted, and at some point it would probably then become
 required:
 http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep5/

Done. Everything must be machine-readable. Kill all humans.

How you licence the Debian packaging is up to you, but GPLv3 seems an
odd choice for a BSD python package wrapping a GPLv2+ library.  Using
a stricter licence than Djapian's means that the Djapian developers
(or indeed the Xapian developers) can't just incorporate any changes from
your packaging which they find useful.

Ok. I will switch the licence.

debian/changelog claims Non-maintainer upload and -0.1 indeed indicates
this as such, which is wrong.  You would be the maintainer of this as a
sponsored upload, so the correct Debian version would be 2.3-1 (in
 this case).

Also new upstream version is more conventional than Imported Upstream
 version 2.3 - see:
 http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/pkgs.html#changelog-entries

It's message from git-import-orig. I thought it's ok to leave it as is. Fixed.

And the Closes: #528247 really belongs in the section for the version
which actually gets uploaded, as that's the one which actually means the
 ITP bug can be closed.

May be changelog should contain only one entry: 'Initial release
(Closes: #528247)'. Is it correct?

Some of the phrasing in the description seems a bit awkward - I think the
description would read better as something like (assuming I haven't
 inadvertently changed the intended meaning):

Description: Search API for Django using Xapian
Djapian provides full-text search in your Django project.
  .
Most features are provided by the Xapian library.  Djapian effectively
serves as a Django-compatible adaptor for Xapian.
  .
  Djapian's features include:
  [...]

It was excerpt from http://code.google.com/p/djapian/. English is not
native nither for me nor for Djapian developers, so awkwardness is
possible. Fixed as you suggested.

Has your GPG key been signed by anyone?  I found the key on
keyserver.ubuntu.com but only self-signed.  If you might want to become a
DM or DD in the future, you'll need to get it signed by existing DDs -
at least one for DM, and at least two for DD.

I'll try to arrange it. But I doubt it'll be easy one.

The new package can be found on mentors.debian.net:

Hi.

Dear subscribers to the twiki-ldapcontrib package and others,

I won't update the package for TWiki's LdapContrib while twiki's packaging in
Debian is stalled. I don't have much interest for TWiki-related maintenance,
while I'm still vonlunteering for foswiki matters.

Expect a new foswiki-ldapcontrib package some day, then : see #511330.

Best regards,

Indeed : #559451 has been processed.

Bug#459325: ITP: clang -- C language family frontend for LLVM

2009-12-04 Thread Y Giridhar Appaji Nag
Hi Maia,

On 09/12/04 22:25 +0600, Maia Kozheva said ...
I have uploaded an in-progress package to Ubuntu REVU, available here:
 http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/p/clang

I'll take a look at this too. I did not look at the packages in detail
but I would like clang to be a package set rather than just one package.
I would like it if clang, the static analyser, the documentation and the
compiler are all difference packages that people can install and use
independantly.

It would be nice if some Ubuntu developers among people using this bug
could review it. And perhaps it can serve as a basis for Debian packaging.

I started packaging clang for Debian in a git repository at
http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/clang.git, but I had to take
care of some personal stuff and did not touch it since a couple of
weeks. You'll see packages by the end of this weekend and I will reuse
your work as much as I can.

Cheers,

Giridhar

Basically, the author of Wordpress::XMLRPC requires his own helper
modules, which may be used in several distributions (since he produces
many of them). However, I'm hesitant to create multiple packages for
them because:

  1. These packages are probably only ever going to be used by Leo Charre
  2. These packages are coded poorly (they export random functions into
 the main namespace)
  3. The packages contain very small portions of code

I'd even consider patching Wordpress::XMLRPC with these functions; however,
I don't think the patch would be sustainable in the long term.

There was some discussion on the pkg-perl list:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2009/11/msg00065.html

Useful suggestions are gladly accepted and appreciated. Please give me a
less crappy alternative. I beg of you. PLEASE.

Description : module to support hints for Pod::Coverage

Pod::Coverage::TrustPod is a Perl module that extends Pod::Coverage by
allowing your Plain Old Documentation (POD) to declare certain symbol names
as trusted. It is similar to using the 'trustme' feature in your test file,
but does not require changes to the test file; instead, you make such trust
annotations in your POD in a specially formatted field.

NOTE: this is already a module used for testing several modules (useful for
Build-Depends/Build-Depends-Indep).

Description : module to provide mapping between URIs and on-disk storage

URI::ToDisk is a Perl module which provides an object that can easily map
between Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) and on-disk storage. In several
processes relating to working with the web, we may need to keep track of an
area on disk which maps to a particular URI.
 .
Using this location, we can derive both a filesystem path and URI for any
given directory or file under this location that we might need to work with.
