You appear to have the same chipset as I do:
mat...@ludwig:~/devel> lspci -n -s 00:02.0
00:02.0 0300: 8086:8108 (rev 06)

did you actually try all the tricks I described previously?
Specifically I noticed that the mem= command line parameter and loading
psb.ko late enough in the boot sequence help a lot.

Oh wait, you have rev 07... not sure what the difference is.

This is quite interesting actually. If nothing else because *maybe* this
other driver works better than psb on my laptop.
Also, I read on the IEGD website that there should be a kernel patch
somewhere. I'm now digging around the intel website to see if I can find
anything useful -- the only "driver" I was able to download so far
contains some sort of exe (archive?).

No worries, I could upload them myself if I was any convinced it was a
good idea. The 3D driver has no chance of working with any current
libdrm implementation and even currently video playback is so bad that
it's just useless.

Anyway, I reworked the packages even more and now at least the packaging
situation is less sad:
- libdrm-psb doesn't need to conflict or replace libdrm anymore, the psb
xorg driver picks it up, much like the intel driver does.
- almost lintian clean, no big errors except for the kernel driver but
  those seem false positives.
- all packges are 3.0 (quilt)... just for fun.
On the negative side the kernel module packaging is still crappy but to
be honest I can't be bothered making it any better for now.

I have all my stuff here with a little explanation in case you want to
give it another go: http://www.kamineko.org/debian-psb/

Thanks

Bug#535828: Debian Packaging advancements

2010-01-11 Thread Joachim Breitner
Hi Andrew,

Am Montag, den 11.01.2010, 15:22 +0300 schrieb Andrew Sichevoi:

>What steps are required to push your debianized Serna package to the
>Debian upstream (to Debian Sid) ?

first of all, it has to properly build on i386 _and_ amd64. I think I
spotted all positions where the compiler complained when assuming that a
pointer size is 32, but I only changed it to 64, so this is not a proper
solution.

Then, for FTP-Master to pass the package, we have to reduce any
unnecessary 3rd party software in it. See my message about antlr from
November: Debian already ships antlr, but in a newer version. It would
be great if serna could use this version out of the box.

Ideally, dita-ot and qtpropertybrowser would be packaged separately and
on their own, but I hope that this is no show-stopper for the inclusion
in Debian.

Also, docbook-xsl is provided in Debian. I did not try yet to use that
package instead of the one in 3rd/. Is the patch
3rd/docbook/1.68.1/_patches/patch-docbook.xsl
really required?

We already talked about the copy of jade/libsp. I think that we can do
with the patched source code included for now.

The files
serna/core/qt/qtsingleapp/qtsingleapplication*.cpp
only contain a header that Licensees holding a Qt Solutions License
Agreement may use the code, the GPL header is missing. This should be
fixed, as otherwise it’s not clear that Serna is really under the GPL.

And of course the Debian package need work (dependencies, installing
required stuff). At the moment it complains multiple times at startup
about a missing doctemplate.dtd or doctemplate2.dtd file. Any idea?

Besides that, I’m quite happy with serna: Once it compiled, it seemed to
work nicely, so segfaults etc., which is not always the case with
just-freed-commercial-applications. I haven’t really used it much,
though.

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#564710: RFP: canvas -- reads draw commands and executes them

2010-01-11 Thread Siward de Groot
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
X-Debbugs-CC: debian-de...@lists.debian.org

Hello everyone,

Canvas is a program that works with X ;
it creates a window with a white background, and then waits for draw commands.
These commands are read from a local socket,
and there is also a commandline utility ('canvassock')
that sends it's argument unto that socket.
Commands can be 'drawline 10 10 100 100', 'setdrawcolor 255 0 0 0', etc.
When canvas gets the commands, it executes them.
Result can be saved to a file (you can create .imo, .jpg, or .png images).

Canvas is most suited for using from a script or program,
and can thus also be used to make simple animations.
It can also be used interactively,
because it can report events (as text strings).
It can also draw texts.
It's main image buffer is present in filesystem as an mmapped shared file,
so you can manipulate it any way you want.

Using canvas is extremely easy to learn ;
It comes with an html file that describes everything
and that can be read in 10 minutes.
It also comes with example code for using it from C or Perl.

It is written in C, and the code is fairly clean and simple,
 and not large (190 kB).
I wrote it on Debian, and compiled latest version on unstable,
so there should be no problem in packaging it.

I think it should be in Debian because it is very usefull and easy :
it can draw anything that you can compute,
and all you need to know are simple drawcommands like 'drawline'.

I hope someone will package it,
because i wrote it after i did not find any Debian package that could draw what
i needed.

Copyright is GPLv3 with additional requirement that you are not allowed to
pretend you wrote it.

Please take a minute to read it's html documentation (has nice drawings !)
which can be found on http://www.gransi.com/siward/canvas4/doc/Intro.html .

It's source code can also be found there, at
 http://www.gransi.com/siward/canvas4/canvas4.tar.gz .

Thanks for taking time to read this message,
and have a nice day :-)

ok, now it works, after properly finding out how to install everything
needed. The package seems to be in a working state now, so now I will
try to figure out the correct build dependencies.

simply adding and removing a single entry in your project's INSTALLED_APPS
and a single line in your main urls.py file.

Features:
 * Database independent
 * Reads and writes your project's gettext catalogs (po and mo files)
 * Installed and uninstalled in under a minute
 * Uses Django's admin interface CSS
 * Translation suggestions via Google AJAX Language API

work on it.

It took a while (serna is not the fastest to build, and I wanted to get
a minimal set, so I’m building one by one), but these are the
build-dependencies I found:

 python,
 doxygen,
 xsltproc,
 bison,
 openjdk-6-jre,
 pkg-config,
 qt4-qmake,
 qt4-dev-tools,
 sip4,
 libqt4-assistant,
 libx11-dev,
 x11proto-core-dev,
 libfreetype6-dev,
 libxft-dev,
 libxinerama-dev,
 libxmu-dev,
 libxml2-dev,
 libxslt1-dev,
 libqt4-dev,
 libqscintilla2-dev,
 python-qt4-dev,
 pyqt4-dev-tools,
 libaspell-dev,
 python-sip4,

Does this look sensible?

The Debian package seems to be ready for alpha users for testing. Is
there anyone on this list running Debian on an amd64 platform willing to
do some testing? In the best case, someone who already knows Serna a
bit?

Greetings,
Joachim

Bug#564820: ITP: libpam-barada -- PAM module to provide two-factor authentication based on HOTP

2010-01-11 Thread Andrew Pollock
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Andrew Pollock

* Package name: libpam-barada
  Version : 0.4
  Upstream Author : Moxie Marlinspike
* URL : http://barada.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: C++
Description : PAM module to provide two-factor authentication based on
HOTP

Use HOTP (RFC4226) two-factor authentication with PAM.
 .
In addition to a normal password, users are also assigned a 128 bit key and
arbitrary-length PIN number. Every time you'd like to login using a OTP, you
calculate a secure hash based on your assigned PIN and an increasing counter,
the result of which is a six character one time password.
 .
While this module could be used in conjunction with many different
client devices, it was written specifically with Android devices in
mind. There is companion software which runs on Android, so that your
phone essentially becomes a SecureID token. All you need to do is
open up the software, type in your PIN, and you get back a 6-character
number that you can use to login to your system.

Bug#533450: New Poulsbo Driver Soon?

2010-01-11 Thread David A. Greene
After talking to the Intel graphics guys, it's pretty clear to me the current
driver is a dead-end. They essentially said it would be impossible to
integrate into any modern X/DRI system.

However, it looks as if a new one is on the way:

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Nzg2MA

If you click through the links you'll find stories about not just the
binary 3D driver but a new open-source 2D one as well.

I think it would be more productive to work on packaging these
as the current package is preventing me from upgrading X. That
said, I very much appreciate having a fairly functional netbook
thanks to all of you!

Bug#564824: RFP: libasdcp -- implementation of SMPTE and the MXF Interop "Sound & Picture Track File" format

2010-01-11 Thread Mattias Mattsson
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

asdcplib is an open source implementation of SMPTE and the MXF Interop
"Sound & Picture Track File" format. It was originally developed with
support from DCI. Development is currently supported by CineCert and
other D-Cinema manufacturers. See the bundled README file for more
information. asdcplib is implemented in C++ and builds on Win32 and
most unix platforms that support GCC.

The following SMPTE standards (and their normative references) are supported:

377M-2004
381M-2005
382M-2007
429-3-2006
429-4-2006
429-5-2008
429-6-2006
429-10-2008

asdcplib supports reading and writing MXF files containing sound
(PCM), picture (JPEG 2000 or MPEG-2) and timed-text (XML) essence.
Plaintext and ciphertext are both supported using OpenSSL for
cryptographic support. An object-oriented API is provided along with a
command-line program asdcp-test that provides access to most of the
API.
