Description : XML editor

From the web page, shortened:

Serna Free Open Source XML editor is an easy-to-use visual XML
application which requires virtually no technical experience from
technical writers to author XML documents.

Serna Free Open Source XML editor hides all the complexities of the
underlying XML technology.

Serna Free XML editor employs XSLT and XSL-FO to render XML documents
in print-like appearance for fast and easy authoring.

Unfortunately, serna-free is an Qt application and I'm not in the mood
to package Qt stuff. The source tree seems to contain (modified?)
copies of docbook-xml and docbook-xsl. The package should have proper
dependencies instead of copies, of course.

Bug#543636: Update about the packaging of pyside

2010-01-25 Thread Didier 'OdyX' Raboud
Hi all,

I heard that some people around begin to wonder where and when pyside is
planned
to be uploaded to Debian, so here is a short update :

It has taken me some time and work, but it is now mostly ready. My
apiextractor,
generatorrunner and boostpythongenerator packages where uploaded multiple times
already (to track upstream releases) and successfully built. I successfully
built pyside itself on amd64 some days ago, with good-looking outputted .debs
(lintian clean etc.)

I am now waiting on my benevolent sponsors to review pyside and hopefully
upload
it in the next days.

So keep tuned !

Bug#457075: Salomé packaging

2010-01-25 Thread Adam C Powell IV
Hello again,

I now have 10 modules enabled, and have made all but one of the patches
upstream-friendly, though I've only uploaded the -3 source package to
http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/salome/ at the moment.

Nicolas, can you do me a favor and try to push some of the patches
upstream? You can find them in the salome_5.1.3-3.debian.tar.gz file,
in the debian/patches directory; I can send them to you individually if
you prefer. The patches fall into in several categories, and are
separated out by module:

  * *-safe-include: Eliminate extern C blocks where they are
unnecessary -- and even harmful, as they break building with
OpenMPI. See the patch head for details.
  * *-cleanup: Fixes for compiler bugs which break the build with
recent compilers.
  * *-hdf5-needs-mpi: The HDF5 header and library files need MPI in
order to work, so this includes the MPI -I and -L flags in with
those of HDF5, and puts MPI checks before HDF5 ones.
  * *-mpich-mpi: Replace MPICH checks with MPI checks, as I've made
it compatible with OpenMPI.
  * *-use-gui-check: Use check_GUI.m4 in the GUI module directory,
instead of the rewritten version of that file in several other
module directories.
  * *-build-in-tree: Debian requires that the whole package build
first, then install. These patches make this possible.

These patches will not only make it easier to maintain the package, but
will assist anyone building Salomé on Debian/Ubuntu in the future. And
all of them should preserve the ability to build as before, let me know
if that is not the case.

Other specific patches:

  * kernel-remove-mpi-undefs: Not sure why these undefs are there,
they break OpenMPI compatibility.
  * kernel-occ-includes: Search for OpenCASCADE header files both in
the default location when building OCC from source and also in
the Debian/Ubuntu package location.
  * hxx2solame-destdir: Use DESTDIR for install.
  * med-scotch: Search for Scotch files both in the default location
when building Scotch from source and also in the Debian/Ubuntu
package location.
  * med-missing-libs: Add the MED libraries to the mprint_version
link command.
  * visu-flags-typo: Fix incorrect automake flags variable.
  * kernel-mpi-libs: This is the one which should *not* go upstream,
as it tests for the Debian-specific MPI alternative symlink lib
names.

Now for one problem. The VISU module doesn't completely compile,
because of a symbol/prototype incompatibility within its CONVERTER
library. I don't know quite enough C++ to fix this, can someone help?

Before upload, I think this needs a few more modules, a full copyright
audit, and at least a working GUI shell. I've only done the audit for
the first two modules (KERNEL and HXX2SALOME), and haven't tried running
the shell yet...

Cheers,
Adam

  Hi,

As part of the OpenHPC project[1], Logilab commited itself to package
Salomé for Debian. We had seen the great work you have done and are
glad that you are resuming it.

Wow, thank you for this terrific news! Have you started to forward-port
the old patches to a new package, or are you using a different approach?

A correction: most of my work on this was two years ago, not three.

André Espaze has been developing a connector between Salomé and
Code_Aster for the past few months. He is about to continue his work
with the packaging of Salomé. He will have the help of Pierre-Yves
David. We also have a Debian developer on the team, Alexandre Fayolle,
but he will not have a lot of time for this particular project in the
  upcoming months.

Okay. Let me know how I can best fit in with your plans for this
 project.

I am cc'ing every person involved to make sure everyone can get in
touch easily. Is debian-science the best place to discuss this topic
or should we take the discussion off-list?

I think this list is pretty good as long as we are talking about
generalities, as I think some of the people on the list will have good
suggestions. When we start to get into the details of patches and the
package, maybe it will make sense to go off-list.

Hopefully, the fact that we have been working with upstream for years
will help us get this work done more easily.

This is terrific. My patches are Debian-specific, and need some work to
make them fit the needs of both upstream and Debian. This gives me hope
that doing that work will help to actually get the patches into the
 upstream source!

This is the best news I've heard in a long time. Thanks again, I look
 forward to working with you.

 Adam

Description : Color management integration for the Gnome desktop
environment

GNOME Color Manager is a set of graphical utilities for color
management to be used in the GNOME desktop. With the help of
ArgyllCMS, it can create and apply display ICC color profiles.

This has at least two selling points: first, it replaces handmade
scripts to load ICC profiles at login time; second, it wraps ArgyllCMS
and hides the complexity of its command-line under one button (it
restricts the available options by doing so, but hopefully that's
temporary rather than permanent, since the app is rather new).

#debian-gnome (well, one person in there :-) tells me they're interested
in maintaining the package. I'll probably upload a first version to
experimental and see how it goes from there.

Roland.

Bug#543296: Any news on pycdio packaging for Debian?

2010-01-25 Thread Jonas Smedegaard

Hi Ben,

I need pycdio for a project of mine, and moticed this ITP.

It is a while since you filed it - are you still interested in
maintaining this? Would you perhaps be interested in a co-maintainer
(favoring Git and CDBS as packaging tools)?

Kind regards,

 - Jonas

Bug#566900: RFH: openbox -- standards compliant, fast, light-weight, extensible window manager

2010-01-25 Thread Nico Golde
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I request assistance with maintaining the openbox package.
I am especially interested in a co-maintainer who uses openbox in a gnome or
lxde environment as it is a PITA to debug these setups (at least when you're
not using them). The project is currently hosted at alioth and uses svn so it
shouldn't be a big deal to team-maintain this.

Please let me know, if you're interested.

The package description is:
Openbox works with your applications, and makes your desktop easier to manage.
This is because the approach to its development was the opposite of what seems
to be the general case for window managers. Openbox was written first to
comply with standards and to work properly. Only when that was in place did
the team turn to the visual interface.
 .
Openbox is fully functional as a stand-alone working environment, or can be
used as a drop-in replacement for the default window manager in the GNOME or
 KDE desktop environments.
 .
Openbox 3 is a completely new breed of window manager. It is not based upon
any existing code base, although the visual appearance has been based upon
that of Blackbox. Openbox 2 was based on the Blackbox 0.65.0 codebase.
 .
Some of the things to look for in Openbox are:
 .
  * ICCCM and EWMH compliance!
  * Very fast
  * Chainable key bindings
  * Customizable mouse actions
  * Window resistance
  * Multi-head Xinerama support!
  * Pipe menus

The homepage is kind of confusing: it's about ctypes, but below
under Related projects is where it discusses ctypeslib. Ctypeslib
is not ctypes, it's a tool to be used with ctypes.

ctypeslib will parse header files and output python code: something
that ctypes doesn't do. ctypeslib isn't included in anything else
(/usr/share/pyshared/numpy/ctypeslib.py) is something different. I've
searched the relevant files with apt-file, if you do know of ctypeslib
somewhere, please let me know.

Since squeeze will be released with Python 2.5 and 2.6, and ctypes has
been removed from Debian just days ago, can you please explain why you
 want to package this tool?

It probably makes sense now...

I'm wanting to package this to get it wider visibility, and hopefully
make it more useful to a wider audience. I've been a longtime user of
ctypes, and the main reason I haven't used ctypeslib more is that it
wasn't in Debian before.

Thanks for the concern,

- Richard

DiagnosisMed is a package to analyze data from diagnostic test accuracy
evaluating health conditions. It is being built to be used by health
professionals. This package is able to estimate sensitivity and
specificity from categorical and continuous test results including some
evaluations of indeterminate results, or compare different categorical
tests, and estimate reasonble cut-offs of tests and display it in a way
commonly used by health professionals. No graphical interface is
 avalible yet.

Remark: I intend to maintain this package in the Debian Med team.

Torsten with the help of a ftp trainee

Sorry Torsten, but you and your ‘trainee’ have not been working very hard. You
could have asked Barry, who was the last person processing this package, and
who already received an answer about doc/epiR.pdf. Or you could have grepped
the sources and found that the .Rd files in the man director are the source of
doc/epiR.pdf. Or you could have browsed the WNPP bug of r-cran-epir, where I
wrote that doc/epiR.pdf can be generated by the command ’R CMD Rd2pdf
r-cran-epir-0.9-22’.

There are many packages of CRAN libraries in Debian. May I suggest that if a
reminder that the source of the PDF files in the doc directory can be found in
the man directory has to be written, it is more on your side that on each and
every R package we upload?

Have a nice day,

I intend to orphan the bluez package as I have no time to maintain in
properly. It is currently in pkg-bluetooth svn repository and can be
maintained from there, I can add people as admins to the group.

The package description is:

Description : a buildtool for clojure

Building Clojure projects with tools designed for Java can be an
exercise in frustration. With Leiningen, your build is described
using Clojure. You can put any code you like in your project.clj
file. The only requirement is that it includes a call to defproject.
You can define your own tasks in there if you need to, but the
majority of projects should be able to get by on the tasks that
are provided with Leiningen. If you do find a common task that
you need to add, you can implement it as a plugin rather than copying
and pasting among each of your projects.
