Bug#550817: gitolite changes to make it easier for distro packagers

2010-02-10 Thread Sitaram Chamarty
Hi Rhonda, Martin (and any others),

Could you please take a look at the new dps branch of gitolite on
github when you get a chance? The latest commit is
http://github.com/sitaramc/gitolite/commit/1ecdd4618e58c03dd7aea39bab34f3244d0135f7
and it's basically my attempt to make it easier for packaging.

In particular, doc/0 now has an appendix for package maintainers,
which can also quickly be seen at
http://github.com/sitaramc/gitolite/commit/1ecdd4618e58c03dd7aea39bab34f3244d0135f7#L0R224

I hope you like this, and if there's anything else I can do please let
me know. dps is currently built off of pu and it will be merged
into pu, then eventually master. I'd appreciate any testing or
comments from you.

Hi Mathieu,

But I won't do this alone and I want the package to be
team-maintained. I'm cc-ing the maintainers of the packages. Maybe we
should create a team for this and for other html editors and js things
 (libjs-scriptaculous, libjs-prototype, tinymce, ...). Why not the
Debian Javascript Maintainers (deb-js)? (I'm cc-ing them also)

Is there git repository for it?
Could you join and send it to pkg-javascript repository on Alioth?

Cheers,

as an external socksifier, as a shell interface to Unix sockets,
as an IPv6 relay, as a netcat and rinetd replacement, to redirect
TCP-oriented programs to a serial line, or to establish a relatively

I can't package this right now, because it Build-Depends on
Gradle (a build system for Java written it Groovy).

The problem is not that Gradle is not packaged in Debian, but
that I don't find a reasonable way to package Gradle since it
Build-Depends on itself and during build time Gradle downloads
a copy of itself.

So, I don't have time to figure out how to build Gradle without
itself. I'll file an RFP for Gradle and I already asked to
upstream for alternatives about how to build this correctly
in Debian.

Bug#569203: ITP: parti -- an experimental window manager, a WM library, and screen for X

2010-02-10 Thread Michael Schutte
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Michael Schutte mi...@uiae.at

* Package name: parti
  Version : 0.0.6
Upstream Author : Michael Schutte mi...@uiae.at
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/partiwm/
* License : GPL ≥ 2
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : window manager library for Python and “screen for X”

The source package will build binaries for “wimpiggy”, a Python library
which tries to “make writing […] window managers just as easy as writing
an app in PyGTK+”, and “xpra” (X Persistent Remote Applications), a tool
which makes it possible to detach and re-attach X programs in the
fashion of GNU Screen.

At the moment I don’t plan on offering a .deb for “parti” itself, an
experimental tabbing/tiling window manager based on wimpiggy, as it
doesn’t appear productively usable to me at the moment.

Given that the three individual projects found in the upstream tarball
are small in size and released together (with common version numbering),
I don’t think that it makes sense to split the tarball.

Cheers,

Bug#447584: GeoGebra in Debian

2010-02-10 Thread Matthias Klumpp
Hi!
The GeoGebra devs asked me to remove all copies of GeoGebra from GetDeb.net
and to close my attempts to package it for Ubuntu, cause they don't want
any GeoGebra package maintained by someone who is not a GG developer.
The GPL grants the right to ditribute GeoGebra and to repackage and mainain
it on Debian/Ubuntu, but I think upsteam will have a reason for this
decision.
If you package GeoGebra for Debian, you should consider asking upsteam
first. Good luck! (I would love to see GG in Debian/Ubuntu's repositories)
Upstream told me they will provide an own repository with GeoGebra deb
packages and drop the current installer - but this was some months ago and
I still see nothing like this.
Kind regards
   Matthias

Bug#569079: ITP: python-xdgapp -- Python XDG application library

What does this provide that python-xdg does not?

It's depended on by https://launchpad.net/groundcontrol, and provides a wrapper around some xdg functions.

Bug#564600: bup package

2010-02-10 Thread Avery Pennarun
Good news! There's a whole suite of man pages included in bup now.

I think by the time the next Debian-stable release comes out, bup
ought to be in very good shape for inclusion. It's still missing a
few features, but it already makes useful backups.

Bug#447584: GeoGebra in Debian

2010-02-10 Thread Giovanni Mascellani
Hi!

Matthias Klumpp ha scritto:
 Hi!
The GeoGebra devs asked me to remove all copies of GeoGebra from GetDeb.net
and to close my attempts to package it for Ubuntu, cause they don't want
any GeoGebra package maintained by someone who is not a GG developer.
The GPL grants the right to ditribute GeoGebra and to repackage and mainain
it on Debian/Ubuntu, but I think upsteam will have a reason for this
 decision.

I'm really curious about the reason of this decision. Many people have
limited bandwidth access, and find much more comfortable to install a
package once, instead of downloading all Webstart classes every time
they want to run Geogebra. Moreover, the libraries present in Debian or
Ubuntu are constantly kept up to date and are much more secure.

Cheers, Giovanni.

.deb available for download at:

Once it's installed, you can start/stop the database using:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/mongodb start
$ sudo /etc/init.d/mongodb stop

I've created a package for MongoDB, a high-performance, schema-free
object-oriented database.  It still has some rough edges and I welcome
any feedback people have!

It's written in C++ and has:

 * Easy storage of object-style data
 * Full index support, including on inner objects
 * Query profiling
 * Replication and fail-over support
 * Efficient storage of binary data including large objects (e.g. videos)

There's more information, downloads, and drivers at www.mongodb.org.

  Description : Event-based I/O for V8 javascript

Node aims at providing a basis for server-side javascript.
 .
It is similar in design to and influenced by systems like
Ruby's Event Machine or Python's Twisted.
 .
Node takes the event model a bit further—it presents the event
loop as a language construct instead of as a library.

microdc is a command-line based Direct Connect client that uses the GNU
Readline library for user interaction. It was developed from ground up and
does not depend on any other program. Despite the command-line user
interface, microdc was designed to be user friendly and simple to use.
 .
microdc is currently in beta state - there may be many bugs not yet
discovered. It also lacks some features that other clients support, such as
file hashing, multiple hub connections, and hub list support.

IIRC you offered to test this package; it'd be great if this offer is
  still standing :)
Like I said in the orphan bug, I had to make some changes which I don't
think are appropriate to make for Debian to get it working and is
 against upstream's advice.

Oh, I forgot or missed that piece of information (and can't see it in
#548322 at the moment either).

Personally I would go for removal of the package.

Fine with me, let's wait a bit if someone speaks and and ask for
removal otherwise.

I am hereby orphaning the socat package.

Thomas

The package description is:
Socat (for SOcket CAT) establishes two bidirectional byte streams
and transfers data between them. Data channels may be files, pipes,
devices (terminal or modem, etc.), or sockets (Unix, IPv4, IPv6, raw,
UDP, TCP, SSL). It provides forking, logging and tracing, different
modes for interprocess communication and many more options.
 .
It can be used, for example, as a TCP relay (one-shot or daemon),
as an external socksifier, as a shell interface to Unix sockets,
as an IPv6 relay, as a netcat and rinetd replacement, to redirect
TCP-oriented programs to a serial line, or to establish a relatively
secure environment (su and chroot) for running client or server shell
 scripts inside network connections.
