not on top of my TODO, feel free to do it instead (the package is

Bug#279422: license nemo_app

Hi!

Concerning my little application (re)named nemo_app.py in the packaged, being
originally published on aspn.activestate.com, it falls under the Python license:

Code that was deposited before July 15, 2008 on aspn.activestate.com shall be
governed by the Python license(http://www.python.org/psf/license/) in

I hope it is compatible with the NLTK license requirements.

Bug#572484: RFH: Movable Type and OpenMelody packaging

2010-03-04 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Package: wnpp

Hi,

I'm looking for help, possibly in the form of members of a new alioth
team, to carry on maintaining Movable Type packages in Debian.

Movable Type is a perl-based blogging platform, which has been in
existence for nearly 10 years, first as a proprietary package, and
in recent years as an open source project.

Currently testing has MT 4.3, and stable has MT 4.1.

Upstream have recently released MT 5, which I suspect will best suit
a parallel packaging effort (eg as movabletype-opensource5) to avoid
having a potentially immature package in squeeze, as well as to ease
the lenny-squeeze transition for people not wanting current features.

Upstream are rather unclear about general support for the open source
version of this so we need to be flexible in how we support this
application in Debian. Based on recent correspondence on the mtos-dev
list, however, it was suggested that MT4.3 would receive bug fixes
and security support for a good while yet.

It's possible that we should use volatile and/or volatile-sloppy
for support of this software (given that upstream don't have clearly
defined stable releases series other than the current latest and
greatest).

In addition to Movable Type itself, there is a commuity fork of MT4
named OpenMelody which may yet prove to be the best way to support this
platform in Debian in the longer term, but that is not yet ready.

When it does become sufficiently mature to consider packaging, work
will be required there too.

So if anyone would be interested in helping out with this effort,
or have any other comments on the best way to make this software
available to our users, please drop me a line.

Cheers,
Dominic.`

Bug#457075: Salomé packaging

2010-03-04 Thread Andre Espaze
Hi Adam,

Ok, so from now I organise tickets on
 http://www.python-science.org/project/salome-packaging
and I keep you in touch with my progress.

Great, thanks. I'm making pretty quick progress (well, as much as can
be done in one or two builds per day), I think the first upload should
come fairly soon, within a week or so.
Ok, today I have worked on your revision:

   c56f196854092f0dc0d222de71de1a4532f214ec
Release 5.1.3-4 Look ma, it builds!

of the master branch or do you have another branch that I could follow?

That's the current public branch now. I'm working now on my own branch,
which doesn't build because of a problem with $(wildcard...) in the
rules file which I mentioned on debian-science. I'm testing a possible
solution based on Aaron Ucko's reply, and will push everything to alioth
  if/when it works.

Everything works now, so I just pushed a bunch of changes to alioth,
including the LIGHT and PYLIGHT CORBA-free GUI modules.
Thank you very much for the push, I have succeeded a complete build
at revision:

5f1c9676ce493cb5f31f01c8a12c4f697308e2fe
Updated time stamp.
Fri Feb 26

However I had to set up a virtual machine with 20Go of disk and 1024Mo
of RAM on a server. I had finally to move away from the chrooted
environment on my local machine. For the installation part, it seems
that there is a cyclic dependency between salome and salome-common.
Obviously salome-common should not depend on salome.

I'm adding MULTIPR now, which should be the last module (XDATA and YACS
gave me some trouble, the others have non-free dependencies). Then I'm
going to do a .desktop file so it can run from the Applications or KDE
menu, and when that's done it should be set to upload!

Oh, except for the HDF5 and MED issue. Well, when bug 510057 closes,
then it will be ready to upload.
For that point and also the packaging steps, I have started a draft
of documentation on the mercurial repo:
http://hg.python-science.org/salome-packaging/
in the file:
debian-packaging.rst
It is supposed to end up on the debian wiki. In case you have time
to read it, would you have comments? I really feel beginner for the
Debian packaging process.
Else I have also uploaded the documentation for the modules MED, SMESH
and VISU.

However, I got a runtime error with my version, the study server is
not found even if I only work with the KERNEL and GUI modules. I am
going to run a new build at revision:

1a1c81a479c5c021ff685046623831ffc3621ccf
Wed Mar 3 17:36:30

I saw that you already fixed the 'killSalome' command problem pointing
on python2.4.

Kind regards,

André

Yes, it's kind of annoying how much disk space it takes!

For the installation part, it seems
that there is a cyclic dependency between salome and salome-common.
Obviously salome-common should not depend on salome.

You're right, this would be a serious bug. I just changed and pushed
the fix.

I am having the same problem, and don't know how to fix it. I wonder
what has changed since you were last able to run it. I guess we should
do a git bisect, but given the build time, that will take quite a while!

I saw that you already fixed the 'killSalome' command problem pointing
 on python2.4.

Yes, and a few others. The YACS module should now build, it seemed like
an important one to get in there. Now only XDATA remains (the others
depend on non-free packages, as described in debian/rules).

Also, VISU still doesn't finish building, I wish I had the C++ skills to
deal with that. :-(

I think we're almost there...

The current maintainer of wiggle, bar...@debian.org, doesn't have
enough time anymore for this package. Therefore, I orphan this package
now. If you want to be the new maintainer, please take it -- see

instructions how to adopt a package properly.

on behalf of Debian QA/MIA

Some information about this package:

Wiggle is a program for applying patches that 'patch' cannot apply due to
 conflicting changes in the original.

Wiggle will always apply all changes in the patch to the original. If it cannot
find a way to cleanly apply a patch, it inserts it in the original in a manner
similar to 'merge', and report an unresolvable conflict.

Bug#564533: Deb source package

2010-03-04 Thread D Haley
OK, so here are my comments. Feel free to ignore whatever you like, as I am
often not right.

* Lintian is giving native package errors. If you do a quick source build with
debuild (debuild -S -i -I), this will tell you what your tarball should be
called, so as to aid navigating this annoying notation.

:~/Documents/deb/shedskin/shedskin-0.3$ debuild -S -i -I
This package has a Debian revision number but there does not seem to be
an appropriate original tar file or .orig directory in the parent directory;
(expected one of shedskin_0.3.orig.tar.gz, shedskin_0.3.orig.tar.bz2,
shedskin_0.3.orig.tar.lzma or shedskin-0.3.orig)
continue anyway? (y/n) n

* I got a warning whilst building source package.. Are you seeing this?

dpkg-source: warning: diff
`~/Documents/deb/shedskin/shedskin_0.3-2.diff.gz.new.Haj083' doesn't contain
any patch

*The permissions from the DSC are a bit odd? Everything in debian/ seems to be
755? should it not be 644 (except rules I think)?

* Shouldn't the description be wrapped at 80 chars in debian/control, with each
new line preceded by a space?

*In debian/copyright, there are some chars that are not showing properly:

 75 Copyright (c) 2009 Jérémie Roquet arkano...@gmail.com

* Standards version is old school. Should be 3.8.4 (or maybe even later...)

* debina/changelog seems to contain program changes, rather than package
changes? changelog should be package only AFAIK. Any program changes should be
hopefully distributed by upstream

* adding a watchfile is good (debian/watch)

* You may have been alluding to this before, but does the GPL trump the AS-IS
free stuff, as you are building them together? Particularly section 5b

b) The work must carry prominent notices stating that it is
released under this License and any conditions added under section
7. This requirement modifies the requirement in section 4 to
keep intact all notices.

You may need to contact upstream and ask them to sort this out, once a correct
course of action has been identified.

* Keeping this on a VCS somewhere would be nice, makes it easy for other
packagers to pull down your package at some later date. This integrates neatly
with the debian PTS. to do this just set Vcs-Git/Vcs-Svn or whatever in
debian/control

*I get a warning whilst attempting to build the binary version.

dpkg-deb: warning: 'debian/shedskin/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined field
'Python-Version'

*Make clean still appears to leave files behind (build-python-*,
debian/shedskin.1.gz, ...). I usually use a VCS to help me work out if I have
accidently not done a proper clean (do a commit, then see what changes before
and after clean using fakeroot make -f debian/rules clean ).

* Lintian outputs a good wad of errors and warnings:

N:If the Debian packaging is maintained in conjunction with upstream, this

N:it's better to omit the debian directory from upstream releases and add

Upstream now has a new maintainer and a couple of contributors so I'm
closing this ITA. As long as we don't have to do upstream maintainance
ourselves I'm happy to take care of the packaging.

The Bazaar Debian packaging team could use some extra hands though so

is necessary for thinkgs like hbaping, which needs proprietary binary libraries
to be useful with some FC cards. Having a -source image would make it more easy
to build appropriate packages, may be for non-free.

Bug#564533: Deb source package

2010-03-04 Thread Paul Boddie
On Thursday 04 March 2010 22:56:27 D Haley wrote:
OK, so here are my comments. Feel free to ignore whatever you like, as I am
 often not right.

Here goes!

 * Lintian is giving native package errors. If you do a quick source build
with debuild (debuild -S -i -I), this will tell you what your tarball
should be called, so as to aid navigating this annoying notation.

I really need to concentrate on proper version identifiers. Previously I had
the ubuntu stuff in these version identifiers, and there are other issues
about targeting unstable which I think I've fixed in this packaging.

 * I got a warning whilst building source package.. Are you seeing this?

 dpkg-source: warning: diff
 `~/Documents/deb/shedskin/shedskin_0.3-2.diff.gz.new.Haj083' doesn't
 contain any patch

I should note that I've only tested this with pbuilder. See this page for my
methods:

http://packages.boddie.org.uk/

*The permissions from the DSC are a bit odd? Everything in debian/ seems to
be 755? should it not be 644 (except rules I think)?

I'll check this.

 * Shouldn't the description be wrapped at 80 chars in debian/control, with
each new line preceded by a space?

I've left the first line as a one-line description as this seems to be the
convention. Maybe there's a line break in there for clarity, but it is
wrapped to either 78 or 80 lines.

*In debian/copyright, there are some chars that are not showing properly:

  75 Copyright (c) 2009 Jérémie Roquet arkano...@gmail.com

This is UTF-8-encoded text: if there's an encoding declaration I should add,
could you perhaps point me to the appropriate documentation?

 * Standards version is old school. Should be 3.8.4 (or maybe even later...)

I must admit that I generally don't follow the standards versions and just
propagate what I find in contemporary packages. Hints welcome!

 * debina/changelog seems to contain program changes, rather than package
changes? changelog should be package only AFAIK. Any program changes should
 be hopefully distributed by upstream

I guess I've misunderstood this. I always thought that it was a standardised
summary of changes, which would be really useful, of course.

 * adding a watchfile is good (debian/watch)

This is the repository/upstream monitoring, right?

 * You may have been alluding to this before, but does the GPL trump the
AS-IS free stuff, as you are building them together? Particularly section
 5b

 b) The work must carry prominent notices stating that it is
released under this License and any conditions added under section
 7. This requirement modifies the requirement in section 4 to
 keep intact all notices.

You may need to contact upstream and ask them to sort this out, once a
correct course of action has been identified.

I haven't pursued this vigourously yet, but obviously they need to retain
original notices. Adding the GPL notices is a best practice for affected
files, but it should be noted that the project maintainer intends to have the
library files under a permissive or weak copyleft licence.

 * Keeping this on a VCS somewhere would be nice, makes it easy for other
packagers to pull down your package at some later date. This integrates
neatly with the debian PTS. to do this just set Vcs-Git/Vcs-Svn or whatever
 in debian/control

It's actually here:

https://hg.boddie.org.uk/shedskin-packaging/

I'll add the field. Apologies for the certificate! I may end up just doing
HTTP for this site.

*I get a warning whilst attempting to build the binary version.

 dpkg-deb: warning: 'debian/shedskin/DEBIAN/control' contains user-defined
 field 'Python-Version'

I guess this is some policy-related stuff that should have been discarded a
long time ago.

*Make clean still appears to leave files behind (build-python-*,
debian/shedskin.1.gz, ...). I usually use a VCS to help me work out if I
have accidently not done a proper clean (do a commit, then see what changes
before and after clean using fakeroot make -f debian/rules clean ).

I'll look into this. The rules file is still a bit of a mystery to me.

 * Lintian outputs a good wad of errors and warnings:

[...]

 Hope thats not too much!

Much of that was already explained above. I'll take a look at these warnings
and try and improve the quality. My role in this has been to try and nudge
Shed Skin closer to proper Debian status based on some fairly informal
packaging I've done for myself before, so if anything I'll learn how to make
cleaner packages.

Thanks for the feedback!

Paul

Fine. The code is now under
svn://svn.debian.org/python-apps/packages/cnetworkmanager/trunk
or
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/python-apps/packages/cnetworkmanager/trunk/
and the package uploaded. Let's see, how it comes through the
new queue. (I added a manual page and did some minor
corrections, e.g. any - all.)

Bug#572597: ITP: libffi-ruby -- ruby extension for loading dynamic libraries, binding functions, and calling those functions from ruby code

2010-03-04 Thread Micah Anderson
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Micah Anderson mi...@debian.org

* Package name: libffi-ruby
  Version : 0.6.2
Upstream Author : Wayne Meissner wmeiss...@gmail.com
* URL : http://wiki.github.com/ffi/ffi

  Programming Lang: Ruby, C
Description : ruby extension for loading dynamic libraries, binding
functions, and calling those functions from ruby code

Ruby-FFI is a ruby extension for programmatically loading dynamic
libraries, binding functions within them, and calling those functions
from Ruby code. Moreover, a Ruby-FFI extension works without changes
on Ruby and JRuby. Discover why should you write your next extension
using Ruby-FFI here[http://wiki.github.com/ffi/ffi/why-use-ffi].

Bug#572458: ITP: hbaapi -- SNIA HBAAPI library

If I remember right that license information is based on some post of one
of the authors on some mailinglist, or something similar. If necessary I
 can dig for it.

That will be great. At the moment, I can't find any other place for the
license. The links mentioned in the source code are invalid.

Also I think the code is not really maintained.

Yes, There does not seem to be any update since 2002. To start with, I will
just look at what Fedora has done and do the same.

Bug#424905: Status of ITP for sdlmame

2010-03-04 Thread Ludo
Hi,

Sorry for the pause in this ITP because I actually
try to figure how to build oldstable/stable/unstable
debs with pbuilder for amd64/arm with QEmu on
my Lenny i386. I found some docs but most outdated
or QEmu crashes. I would like to finish this process
and automate this as much as possible before doing
any further improvements on actual package. In the
meanwhile the package is still available on my repo.

Should I close this ITP now or ask someone else
to view my actual package ?

Thanks for your time.

Ludovic Lechapt

Bug#457899: ubuntu-archive-keyring: Could someone work on this package in Debian?

2010-03-04 Thread Hideki Yamane
Hi,

I want this ubuntu-archive-keyring package to check diffs with Ubuntu
package source by using chdist script (with patch Debbugs#572448).
We can get diff between Debian and Ubuntu from http://patches.ubuntu.com/
but it is not easy to deal with since it is big one patch file.

Thu, 27 Dec 2007 13:56:03 +0100 Sebastian Harl s...@tokkee.org:
I really don't see any reason to include such packages in Debian.

I have a reason for that, want to do thing easier. Isn't it enough? :)

And, could someone maintain this package in Debian, Ubuntu folks?
 Thanks.
