Bug#477572: RFP: python-pymedia -- Python module for editing wav, mp3, ogg, avi, divx, dvd files

2010-04-09 Thread Per W.
- The pymedia project includes much of the ffmpeg code, while it should
better dynamically link to the existing ffmpeg libs (like
libavformat.so.52 and libavcodec.so.52)
- The included ffmpeg code is badly outdated and not cleanly separated
- The code-base seems to be unmaintained.
- It depends on the i386 architecture
- We already have python-gst0.10 and pygame for python multimedia support

So it might be a bad idea to Maintain a Debian package for pymedia.
Anyway I created a initial package for you to experiment with.
In the current state the package compiles and installs without problems
on amd64 but the import fails.

Description : optimization of large scale problems for the Yorick language
OptimPack is a portable C library which implements algorithms for
optimization of large scale problems with bound constraints. Large
scale means some million variables (e.g. pixel values) or more.
.
The most important algorithm is VMLM-B: a variable metric method with
limited memory requirements and, possibly, bound constraints on the
parameters. The algorithm is based on limited memory BFGS updates
with Moré & Thuente inexact line search and gradient projection to
account for bounds.
.
This package contains a Yorick plug-in based on OptimPack.

I am the maintainer of 13 yorick-related packages already in main. OptimPack in
required for another package I will ITP right away: yorick-mira. MiRA is used
on a regular basis by several persons at my workplace.

Best regards, Thibaut.

Description : modular, free, open source music studio

Hi,
I'm planning to package buzztard soonish, now that some fundamental
issues are solved in 0.4.0.

Together with buzztard the three dependencies gst-buzztard, bml and bsl
will also be packaged.

This package will be maintained by the pkg-gstreamer team.

> The buzztard project aims to provide a modular, free, open source

> Features and functionality are added in small development cycles (see

> Buzztard is free software and distributed under the LGPL.

Tornado is an open source version of the scalable, non-blocking

Google's webapp, but with additional tools and optimizations to take
advantage of the underlying non-blocking infrastructure.

I'm taking over this bug as part of my new maintainer process. Please
note that this means that I will provide the necessary files for a
package, but I will *probably* NOT upload the package into the archive and
I will *definitely* NOT take over maintenance of this package in the
future.

Bug#577124: ITP: xen-unmodified-drivers -- Kernel drivers for paravirt-on-hvm devices

2010-04-09 Thread C.J. Adams-Collier
Hey there Michael,

Thanks for the response!

As far as I can tell, these drivers are not in the kernel, and will not
be in the near future. These drivers are part of the xen hg repository.
I expect that I'll need to use DKMS in order to get the drivers built.
I've written up a HOWTO for doing it manually:

http://wp.colliertech.org/cj/?p=653

Cheers,

C.J.

Bug#433270: Update on packaging

2010-04-09 Thread Pablo Duboue
To try the current prototype, as root, install the following packages:

apt-get install librxtx-java libjna-java libantlr-java libjogl-java libitext-
java liblog4j1.2-java openjdk-6-jdk libecj-java cdbs

then go to some work folder,

mkdir processing-1.0.9
cd processing-1.0.9
svn co svn://svn.debian.org/pkg-java/trunk/processing
mv processing debian
./debian/rules get-orig-source
# that'll take a long long time
# you should end up with ../processing_1.0.9.orig.tar.gz
cd ..
tar -zxvf ./processing_1.0.9.orig.tar.gz
cd processing-1.0.9
fakeroot debian/rules patch
fakeroot debian/rules binary

that should produce two .deb. Once installed, you can activate processing with
/usr/bin/processing

packages have been worked on :-/

There are i386 packages here:

http://pkg-libvirt.alioth.debian.org/packages/

The last I heard Guido didn't want to bundle the appliance part with
the Debian package.

This package previously existed in Debian/non-free, but was
removed due to lack of maintainership and being non-free.

Since I use this for teaching, and that the license changed
to BSD (except for one documentation file with no source),
I am willing to package and maintain it (with a sponsor).
A (lintian-clean) preliminary package is available at
http://debian.lipn.fr/html/package.spim.html

Since this package has been maintained in Ubuntu, I intend
to contact the Ubuntu maintainer and merge her changes if
they fit (such as a .desktop file, which I deemed at first
unnecessary).

I did not take a look at it recently as I am primarily working on
python-apt releases. The last time I looked, there were some more
changes needed.

I guess I'll just take jockey, get it buildable and upload it
to experimental first, and then start working on the Debian

Bug#436722: ITP: jockey -- user interface and desktop integration for driver management

2010-04-09 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

I just tested to build jockey version 0.5.8-0ubuntu6 from Ubuntu using
pbuilder with unstable, and the build failed with this error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
python-kde4: Depends: python-qt4 (< 4.7-2+~) but 4.7.2-1 is to be installed.
 Depends: python-sip4 (>= ) but 4.10.1-1 is to be
installed.

I guess some work is needed on dependencies before jockey can go into
Debian.

Is there any work going on at the moment to get jockey into Debian?
It seem like a good compromize to make it easy to get hardware
requiring non-free stuff working, while still making it clear for the
user that the hardware do not work with free software.

Happy hacking,
