Bug#474034: [gPXE] gPXE license clarifications

2010-04-15 Thread Marty Connor

Shao,

I very much appreciate your work on the file licensing issue.

Your changes have not been committed because we have been busy with
evaluating students for Google Summer of Code and various other issues
that have occupied us in the last month.

Once we have our students for GSoC selected (should be less than 2 weeks
now) we will start evaluating and applying patches for gPXE 1.0.1 as we
did not long ago for gPXE 1.0.0.

I know you have a number of very interesting patches in the queue, and
we look forward to discussing them and hopefully getting them in the
main release repository.

You messages from last month have not been forgotten, and I am sure
there is a support issue on http://support.etherboot.org/ that will make
sure we don't forget them.

Thanks a lot for keeping an eye on the patch queue! It's an important
function, and I assure you that when we get past GSoC selection we will
once more be committing.

With thanks,

/ Marty /

 This program converts wav sound files into a format suitable for CD-ROMs, and
 can perform some editing functions like cutting or volume change. It is
rather
 rudimentary, the wav file must have the same sampling parameters as CD audio.
 Runs both on big and little endian machines.

Bug#575523: ulimit, kernel limit

2010-04-15 Thread Thomas Koch
The packaging should care of these:

http://wiki.apache.org/hadoop/Hbase/FAQ#A6

Why do I see "java.io.IOException...(Too many open files)" in my logs?

Currently Hbase is a file handle glutton. Running an Hbase loaded w/ more than
a few regions, its possible to blow past the common 1024 default file handle
limit for the user running the process. Running out of file handles is like an
OOME, things start to fail in strange ways. To up the users' file handles,
edit /etc/security/limits.conf on all nodes and restart your cluster.

{{{# Each line describes a limit for a user in the form: # # domain type item
value # hbase - nofile 32768}}}

You may need to also edit sysctl.conf.

The math runs roughly as follows: Per column family, there is at least one
mapfile and possibly up to 5 or 6 if a region is under load (lets say 3 per
column family on average). Multiply by the number of regions per region
server. So, for example, say you have a schema of 3 column familes per region
and that you have 100 regions per regionserver, the JVM will open 3 * 3 * 100
mapfiles -- 900 file descriptors not counting open jar files, conf files, etc
(Run 'lsof -p REGIONSERVER_PID' to see for sure).

-

http://pero.blogs.aprilmayjune.org/2009/01/22/hadoop-and-linux-kernel-2627-
epoll-limits/

A day and several installation routines later we figured out that the
available epoll resources were not sufficient any more. Java JDK 1.6 uses
epoll to implement non-blocking-IO. With kernel 2.6.27 resource limits have
been introduced and the default on openSuSE is 128 - way too low.

Increasing the limit with echo 1024 > /proc/sys/fs/epoll/max_user_instances
fixed the cluster immediately. To make this setting boot safe add the
following line to /etc/sysctl.conf:

fs.epoll.max_user_instances = 1024

Bug#577924: ITP: php-text-wiki -- Transforms Wiki and BBCode markup into XHTML, LaTeX or plain text markup. This is the base engine for all of the Text_Wiki sub-classes.

* Package name: php-text-wiki
  Version : 1.2.0
  Upstream Author : Paul Jones, Justin Patrin, Del Elson
* URL : http://pear.php.net/package/Text_Wiki
* License : LGPL
  Programming Lang: PHP
  Description : Transforms Wiki and BBCode markup into XHTML, LaTeX or
plain text markup. This is the base engine for all of the Text_Wiki sub-classes.

 The text transformation is done in 2 steps. The chosen parser uses
 markup rules to tokenize the tags and content. Renderers output
 the tokens and text into the requested format. The tokenized form
 replaces the tags by a protected byte value associated to an index
 in an options table. This form shares up to 50 rules by all parsers
 and renderers. The package is intented for versatile transformers
 as well as converters. Text_Wiki is delivered with its own parser,
 which is used by Yawiki or Horde's Wicked and three basic renderers:
 XHTML , LaTeX and plain text. Strong sanitizing of XHTML is default.
 Parsers (* and Renderers) exist for BBCode, Cowiki (*), Dokuwiki
 (*), Mediawiki and Tikiwiki (*). It is highly configurable and
 can be easily extended.

Bug#499617: RFS: pyamf

2010-04-15 Thread Luca Bruno

As I was the one who opened the RFP, I'd be glad to sponsor this if
nobody step up in some days (but I'd _really_ prefer to have it uploaded
by someone inside the DPMT, as I'm not so much skilled in python
modules).

Ciao, Luca
